Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. | 1Praise the LORD! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. |
Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise? | 2Who can speak of the mighty deeds of the LORD, Or can show forth all His praise? |
Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times. | 3How blessed are those who keep justice, Who practice righteousness at all times! |
Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation; | 4Remember me, O LORD, in Your favor toward Your people; Visit me with Your salvation, |
That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance. | 5That I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones, That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, That I may glory with Your inheritance. |
We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly. | 6We have sinned like our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly. |
Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea. | 7Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; They did not remember Your abundant kindnesses, But rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea. |
Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known. | 8Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name, That He might make His power known. |
He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness. | 9Thus He rebuked the Red Sea and it dried up, And He led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness. |
And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. | 10So He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. |
And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left. | 11The waters covered their adversaries; Not one of them was left. |
Then believed they his words; they sang his praise. | 12Then they believed His words; They sang His praise. |
They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel: | 13They quickly forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel, |
But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. | 14But craved intensely in the wilderness, And tempted God in the desert. |
And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul. | 15So He gave them their request, But sent a wasting disease among them. |
They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD. | 16When they became envious of Moses in the camp, And of Aaron, the holy one of the LORD, |
The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram. | 17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And engulfed the company of Abiram. |
And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked. | 18And a fire blazed up in their company; The flame consumed the wicked. |
They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image. | 19They made a calf in Horeb And worshiped a molten image. |
Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass. | 20Thus they exchanged their glory For the image of an ox that eats grass. |
They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt; | 21They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt, |
Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea. | 22Wonders in the land of Ham And awesome things by the Red Sea. |
Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. | 23Therefore He said that He would destroy them, Had not Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him, To turn away His wrath from destroying them. |
Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word: | 24Then they despised the pleasant land; They did not believe in His word, |
But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD. | 25But grumbled in their tents; They did not listen to the voice of the LORD. |
Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness: | 26Therefore He swore to them That He would cast them down in the wilderness, |
To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands. | 27And that He would cast their seed among the nations And scatter them in the lands. |
They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead. | 28They joined themselves also to Baal-peor, And ate sacrifices offered to the dead. |
Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them. | 29Thus they provoked Him to anger with their deeds, And the plague broke out among them. |
Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed. | 30Then Phinehas stood up and interposed, And so the plague was stayed. |
And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore. | 31And it was reckoned to him for righteousness, To all generations forever. |
They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: | 32They also provoked Him to wrath at the waters of Meribah, So that it went hard with Moses on their account; |
Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips. | 33Because they were rebellious against His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips. |
They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them: | 34They did not destroy the peoples, As the LORD commanded them, |
But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. | 35But they mingled with the nations And learned their practices, |
And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. | 36And served their idols, Which became a snare to them. |
Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, | 37They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons, |
And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. | 38And shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with the blood. |
Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions. | 39Thus they became unclean in their practices, And played the harlot in their deeds. |
Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance. | 40Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against His people And He abhorred His inheritance. |
And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them. | 41Then He gave them into the hand of the nations, And those who hated them ruled over them. |
Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand. | 42Their enemies also oppressed them, And they were subdued under their power. |
Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity. | 43Many times He would deliver them; They, however, were rebellious in their counsel, And so sank down in their iniquity. |
Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry: | 44Nevertheless He looked upon their distress When He heard their cry; |
And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. | 45And He remembered His covenant for their sake, And relented according to the greatness of His lovingkindness. |
He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives. | 46He also made them objects of compassion In the presence of all their captors. |
Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise. | 47Save us, O LORD our God, And gather us from among the nations, To give thanks to Your holy name And glory in Your praise. |
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD. | 48Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, "Amen." Praise the LORD! |
