1 A song of ascents. O LORD, remember on behalf of David all the hardships he endured, Remember, O LORD, in David’s favor, all the hardships he endured, A Song of degrees. 3 “I will not enter my house or get into my bed, “I will not enter my house or get into my bed, Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; “I certainly will not enter my house, Nor lie on my bed; “I will not enter my house or go to my bed,
4 I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, I will not give sleep to mine eyes, <i>or</i> slumber to mine eyelids, I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids, I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids,
5 until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob. until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty <i>God</i> of Jacob. 6 We heard that the ark was in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. 7 Let us go to His dwelling place; let us worship at His footstool. “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool!” We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool. Let’s go into His dwelling place; Let’s worship at His footstool. “Let us go to his dwelling place, let us worship at his footstool, saying,
8 Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. Arise, O LORD, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength. Arise, LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. Arise, LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.
9 May Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and Your saints shout for joy. Let your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let your saints shout for joy. Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy. May Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And may Your godly ones sing for joy. May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.’”
10 For the sake of Your servant David, do not reject Your anointed one. For the sake of your servant David, do not turn away the face of your anointed one. For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. For the sake of Your servant David, Do not turn away the face of Your anointed. 11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise He will not revoke: “One of your descendants I will place on your throne. The LORD swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: “One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne. The LORD hath sworn <i>in</i> truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. The LORD has sworn to David A truth from which He will not turn back: “I will set upon your throne <i>one</i> from the fruit of your body. The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne.
12 If your sons keep My covenant and the testimony I will teach them, then their sons will also sit on your throne forever and ever.” If your sons keep my covenant and my testimonies that I shall teach them, their sons also forever shall sit on your throne.” If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. “If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I will teach them, Their sons also will sit upon your throne forever.” If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.”
13 For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His home: For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place: For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired <i>it</i> for his habitation. For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it as His dwelling place. For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying,
14 “This is My resting place forever and ever; here I will dwell, for I have desired this home. “This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. This <i>is</i> my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. “This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. “This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.
15 I will bless her with abundant provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. “I will abundantly bless her food; I will satisfy her needy with bread. I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food.
16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will sing out in joy. Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy. I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. “I will also clothe her priests with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy. I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.
17 There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one. There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. “I will make the horn of David spring forth there; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed. “Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one.
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown upon him will gleam.” His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him his crown will shine.” His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish. “I will clothe his enemies with shame, But upon himself his crown will gleam.” I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”
