Despite being the target of her criticism, Moses cried out to the LORD on her behalf, saying, "O God, please heal her!" (Numbers 12:13). The LORD responded to Moses' intercession, instructing that Miriam be confined outside the camp for seven days, after which she would be brought back. Numbers 12:14-15 records God's words: "If her father had but spit in her face, would she not be in disgrace for seven days? Let her be confined outside the camp for seven days; after that she may be brought back." This period of separation served both as a time of purification for Miriam and as a public acknowledgment of her wrongdoing.
