An End to Idolatry

1  בַּיּ֣וֹם (On the day) הַה֗וּא (that) יִֽהְיֶה֙ (will be) מָק֣וֹר (a fountain) נִפְתָּ֔ח (opened) לְבֵ֥ית (for the house) דָּוִ֖יד (of David) וּלְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י (and for the dwellers) יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (of Jerusalem) לְחַטַּ֖את (for sin) וּלְנִדָּֽה׃ (and for impurity). 2  וְהָיָה֩ (And it will come to pass) בַיּ֨וֹם (on the day), הַה֜וּא (that) נְאֻ֣ם׀ (a declaration) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH of) צְבָא֗וֹת (Hosts), אַכְרִ֞ית (that I will cut off) אֶת־ (-) שְׁמ֤וֹת (the names) הָֽעֲצַבִּים֙ (of the idols) מִן־ (from) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the land), וְלֹ֥א (and not) יִזָּכְר֖וּ (they will be remembered); ע֑וֹד (anymore) וְגַ֧ם (and also) אֶת־ (-) הַנְּבִיאִ֛ים (the prophets) וְאֶת־ (and) ר֥וּחַ (the spirit) הַטֻּמְאָ֖ה (of impurity) אַעֲבִ֥יר (I will make pass) מִן־ (from) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the land).

3  וְהָיָ֗ה (And it will come to pass), כִּֽי־ (if) יִנָּבֵ֣א (prophesies), אִישׁ֮ (a man) עוֹד֒ (still) וְאָמְר֣וּ (that will say) אֵ֠לָיו (to him) אָבִ֨יו (his father) וְאִמּ֤וֹ (and mother) יֹֽלְדָיו֙ (who bore him) לֹ֣א (Not) תִֽחְיֶ֔ה (will you live); כִּ֛י (for) שֶׁ֥קֶר (deception) דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ (you have spoken) בְּשֵׁ֣ם (in the name) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH); וּדְקָרֻ֜הוּ (and will pierce him through) אָבִ֧יהוּ (his father) וְאִמּ֛וֹ (and mother) יֹלְדָ֖יו (who bore him) בְּהִנָּבְאֽוֹ׃ (at his prophesying).

4  וְהָיָ֣ה׀ (And it will come to pass) בַּיּ֣וֹם (in day), הַה֗וּא (that) יֵבֹ֧שׁוּ (that will feel shame) הַנְּבִיאִ֛ים (the prophets) אִ֥ישׁ (each man) מֵחֶזְיֹנ֖וֹ (from his vision), בְּהִנָּֽבְאֹת֑וֹ (in his prophesying); וְלֹ֧א (and not) יִלְבְּשׁ֛וּ (clothe themselves) אַדֶּ֥רֶת (with a cloak) שֵׂעָ֖ר (of hair) לְמַ֥עַן (in order) כַּחֵֽשׁ׃ (to deceive); 5  וְאָמַ֕ר (and he will say), לֹ֥א (Not) נָבִ֖יא (a prophet), אָנֹ֑כִי (I am) אִישׁ־ (a farmer); עֹבֵ֤ד (working) אֲדָמָה֙ (the land) אָנֹ֔כִי (I am) כִּ֥י (for) אָדָ֖ם (a man) הִקְנַ֥נִי (acquired me) מִנְּעוּרָֽי׃ (in my youth). 6  וְאָמַ֣ר (And if it is said) אֵלָ֔יו (to him) מָ֧ה (What are) הַמַּכּ֛וֹת (the wounds) הָאֵ֖לֶּה (these) בֵּ֣ין (between) יָדֶ֑יךָ (your hands)? וְאָמַ֕ר (And he will answer), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (Those with which) הֻכֵּ֖יתִי (I was wounded) בֵּ֥ית (in the house) מְאַהֲבָֽי׃ס (of my friends).

The Shepherd Struck, the Sheep Scattered
(Matthew 26:31–35; Mark 14:27–31)

7  חֶ֗רֶב (O Sword), עוּרִ֤י (awake), עַל־ (against) רֹעִי֙ (My shepherd)

וְעַל־ (and against) גֶּ֣בֶר (a man) עֲמִיתִ֔י (My companion),

נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH of) צְבָא֑וֹת (hosts).

הַ֤ךְ (Strike) אֶת־ (-) הָֽרֹעֶה֙ (the shepherd), וּתְפוּצֶ֣יןָ (and will be scattered); הַצֹּ֔אן (the sheep)

וַהֲשִׁבֹתִ֥י (and will I turn) יָדִ֖י (My hand) עַל־ (against) הַצֹּעֲרִֽים׃ (the little ones).

8  וְהָיָ֤ה (And it will come to pass), בְכָל־ (in all) הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ (the land),

נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH),

פִּֽי־ (a measure) שְׁנַ֣יִם (that two) בָּ֔הּ (in it) יִכָּרְת֖וּ (will be cut off) יִגְוָ֑עוּ (and die);

וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁ֖ית (and the third) יִוָּ֥תֶר (will remain) בָּֽהּ׃ (in it).

9  וְהֵבֵאתִ֤י (And I will bring) אֶת־ (-) הַשְּׁלִשִׁית֙ (the third) בָּאֵ֔שׁ (through the fire),

וּצְרַפְתִּים֙ (and I will refine them) כִּצְרֹ֣ף (like the refining), אֶת־ (-) הַכֶּ֔סֶף (of silver)

וּבְחַנְתִּ֖ים (and I will test them) כִּבְחֹ֣ן (like the testing). אֶת־ (-) הַזָּהָ֑ב (of gold)

ה֣וּא׀ (He) יִקְרָ֣א (will call) בִשְׁמִ֗י (on my name),

וַֽאֲנִי֙ (and I) אֶעֱנֶ֣ה (will answer) אֹת֔וֹ (him)

אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ (I will say), עַמִּ֣י (My people); ה֔וּא (it is)

וְה֥וּא (and he) יֹאמַ֖ר (will say), יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH is) אֱלֹהָֽי׃ס (My God).
