He departs into Galilee, and heals the ruler's son that lay sick at Capernaum. So they left the town This phrase indicates the immediate response of the people to the testimony of the Samaritan woman. The town referred to is Sychar, located in Samaria. The Samaritans were a mixed race, partly Jewish and partly Gentile, and were often despised by the Jews. The fact that the townspeople left their daily activities to seek Jesus shows the impact of the woman's encounter with Him. This reflects the transformative power of personal testimony and the readiness of the Samaritans to seek truth, contrasting with the skepticism often shown by the Jewish leaders. and made their way toward Jesus Persons / Places / Events 1. Our personal testimonies can be powerful tools for evangelism. Breaking Cultural Barriers Jesus' interaction with the Samaritan woman demonstrates His willingness to break cultural and social barriers. As followers of Christ, we are called to reach out to all people, regardless of societal divisions. Seeking Jesus Personally The townspeople's decision to go and see Jesus for themselves underscores the importance of personal faith. We must encourage others to have their own encounters with Christ. The Role of Community in Faith The response of the Samaritan community shows the impact of collective seeking and belief. Engaging in community can strengthen and affirm individual faith journeys.(30) Came unto him.--Literally, were coming unto Him. They were still on the way when the conversation in John 4:31-38 took place. The general expectation of the Messiah, and the receptive spirit of the Samaritans, is shown in her alacrity to go and tell the men of the place, and in their desire at once to see Him for themselves. Many, indeed, were convinced by her statement only (John 4:39-40).Verse 30. - They went out of the city, and were coming on their way towards him. The vividness of the picture is remarkable, and is made more so by observing the tense of ἤρχοντο. The men were already crossing the green fields that lay between Sychar and Jacob's well. This remarkable touch explains the conversation that immediately follows. We have the twofold scene depicted: on the one side, the disciples eager for their meal, and absorbed for the moment with thoughts of "terrene provender," unconscious of the vast yearnings of their Lord, and his passion for the regeneration and saving of men; and on the other side, the immediate effect, produced neither by signs nor wonders, but by his word only, on a few susceptible souls, who appeared to him living representatives and firstfruits of a redeemed humanity.
