So the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How <i>is it that</i> You, <i>though</i> You are a Jew, are asking me for a drink, <i>though</i> I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God and who is asking you for a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water. Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. Jesus replied to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
11 “Sir, the woman replied, “You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where then will You get this living water? The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? She said to Him, “Sir, You have no bucket and the well is deep; where then do You get <i>this</i> living water? “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?
12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well and drank of it himself, and his sons and his cattle?” Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. 14 But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life. but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never be thirsty; but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up to eternal life.” but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water so that I will not get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water. The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water so that I will not be thirsty, nor come <i>all the way</i> here to draw <i>water.</i>” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
16 Jesus told her, “Go, call your husband and come back. Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.” He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
17 “I have no husband, the woman replied. Jesus said to her, “You are correct to say that you have no husband. The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: The woman answered and said to Him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’; “I have no husband,” she replied. Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband.
18 In fact, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. You have spoken truthfully. for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this <i>which</i> you have said <i>is</i> true.” The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
19 “Sir, the woman said, “I see that You are a prophet. The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet.
20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say that the place where one must worship is in Jerusalem. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and <i>yet</i> you <i>Jews</i> say that in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship.” Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21 “Believe Me, woman, Jesus replied, “a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Jesus said to her, “Believe Me, woman, that a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. You <i>Samaritans</i> worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, because salvation is from the Jews. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.
23 But a time is coming and has now come when the TRUE worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. But a time is coming, and even now has arrived, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks <i>to be</i> His worshipers. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
24 God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and in truth. 25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” ( called Christ) “is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us. The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.” The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Jesus answered, “I who speak to you am He. Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.” Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am <i>he</i>. Jesus said to her, “I am <i>He,</i> the One speaking to you.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
27 Just then His disciples returned and were surprised that He was speaking with a woman. But no one asked Him, “What do You want from her? or “Why are You talking with her? Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her? And at this point His disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, “What are You seeking?” or, “Why are You speaking with her?” Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?”
28 Then the woman left her water jar, went back into the town, and said to the people, So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, So the woman left her waterpot and went into the city, and said to the people, Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people,
29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ? “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is He?” “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?”
30 So they left the town and made their way toward Jesus. They went out of the town and were coming to him. Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. They left the city and were coming to Him. They came out of the town and made their way toward him.
31 Meanwhile the disciples urged Him, “Rabbi, eat something. Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat <i>something.</i>” Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something.”
32 But He told them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about. But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”
33 So the disciples asked one another, “Could someone have brought Him food? So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him <i>ought</i> to eat? So the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him <i>anything</i> to eat, did he?” Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?”
34 Jesus explained, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work. Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to accomplish His work. “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months until the harvest’? I tell you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ripe for harvest. Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and <i>then</i> cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. Do you not say, ‘There are still four months, and <i>then</i> comes the harvest’? Behold, I tell you, raise your eyes and observe the fields, that they are white for harvest. Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
36 Already the reaper draws his wages and gathers a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may rejoice together. Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who reaps may rejoice together. Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together.
37 For in this case the saying ‘One sows and another reaps is true. For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. For in this <i>case</i> the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true.
38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for; others have done the hard work, and now you have taken up their labor. I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.” I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours. I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have come into their labor.” I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”
39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Jesus because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did. Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. Now from that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all the things that I have done.” Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.”
40 So when the Samaritans came to Him, they asked Him to stay with them, and He stayed two days. So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 42 They said to the woman, “We now believe not only because of your words; we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man truly is the Savior of the world. They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.” And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard <i>him</i> ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. and they were saying to the woman, “<i>It is</i> no longer because of what you said <i>that</i> we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One truly is the Savior of the world.” They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
43 After two days, Jesus left for Galilee. After the two days he departed for Galilee. Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee. And after the two days, He departed from there for Galilee. After the two days he left for Galilee.
44 Now He Himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown. (For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.) For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country. For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. (Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honor in his own country.)
45 Yet when He arrived, the Galileans welcomed Him. They had seen all the great things He had done in Jerusalem at the feast, for they had gone there as well. So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast. For they too had gone to the feast. Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast. So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, <i>only because</i> they had seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also went to the feast. When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, for they also had been there.
46 So once again He came to Cana in Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. Therefore He came again to Cana of Galilee, where He had made the water <i>into</i> wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum. Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum.
47 When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged Him to come down and heal his son, who was about to die. When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and <i>began</i> asking <i>Him</i> to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.
48 Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe. So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you <i>people</i> see signs and wonders, you <i>simply</i> will not believe.” “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”
49 “Sir, the official said, “come down before my child dies. The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. The royal official said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
50 “Go, said Jesus. “Your son will live. The man took Jesus at His word and departed. Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. Jesus said to him, “Go; your son is alive.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went <i>home.</i> “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.
51 And while he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was alive. As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told <i>him</i>, saying, Thy son liveth. And as he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his son was alive. While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living.
52 So he inquired as to the hour when his son had recovered, and they told him, “The fever left him yesterday at the seventh hour. So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”
53 Then the father realized that this was the very hour in which Jesus had told him, “Your son will live. And he and all his household believed. The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household. So the father knew that <i>it was</i> at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house. So the father knew that <i>it was</i> at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son is alive”; and he himself believed, and his entire household. Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.
54 This was now the second sign that Jesus performed after coming from Judea into Galilee. This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee. This <i>is</i> again the second miracle <i>that</i> Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee. This is again a second sign that Jesus performed when He had come from Judea into Galilee. This was the second sign Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.
