| 1Now it happened that He was passing through some grainfields on a Sabbath; and His disciples were picking the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating the grain. | 1On a Sabbath, He passed through the grainfields. | 3And Jesus answering them said, "Have you not even read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him, | 3Jesus answered them, "Haven't you read what David and those who were with him did when he was hungry-- |
| 4how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the consecrated bread which is not lawful for any to eat except the priests alone, and gave it to his companions?" | 4how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the sacred bread, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat? | 22"Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man. | 22You are blessed when people hate you, when they exclude you, insult you, and slander your name as evil because of the Son of Man. |
| 23"Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets. | 23"Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! Take note--your reward is great in heaven, for this is the way their ancestors used to treat the prophets. |
| 24"But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full. | 24But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your comfort. |

| 35"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. | 35But love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. | 42"Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye. | 42Or how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself don't see the log in your eye? Hypocrite! First take the log out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck in your brother's eye. |
| 43"For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit. | 43"A good tree doesn't produce bad fruit; on the other hand, a bad tree doesn't produce good fruit. |

| 45"The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart. | 45A good man produces good out of the good storeroom of his heart. An evil man produces evil out of the evil storeroom, for his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart. |

| 48he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. | 48He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn't shake it, because it was well built. |
| 49"But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great." | 49But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The river crashed against it, and immediately it collapsed. And the destruction of that house was great!" |
