Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. | 1Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. |
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders. | 2Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. |
Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad. | 3Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. |
Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. | 4Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. |
Remember His wonders which He has done, His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth, | 5Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, |
O seed of Abraham, His servant, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! | 6you his servants, the descendants of Abraham, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob. |
He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth. | 7He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. |
He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations, | 8He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations, |
The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac. | 9the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. |
Then He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, | 10He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: |
Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan As the portion of your inheritance," | 11"To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit." |
When they were only a few men in number, Very few, and strangers in it. | 12When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it, |
And they wandered about from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people. | 13they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. |
He permitted no man to oppress them, And He reproved kings for their sakes: | 14He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings: |
"Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm." | 15"Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm." |
And He called for a famine upon the land; He broke the whole staff of bread. | 16He called down famine on the land and destroyed all their supplies of food; |
He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave. | 17and he sent a man before them-- Joseph, sold as a slave. |
They afflicted his feet with fetters, He himself was laid in irons; | 18They bruised his feet with shackles, his neck was put in irons, |
Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the LORD tested him. | 19till what he foretold came to pass, till the word of the LORD proved him true. |
The king sent and released him, The ruler of peoples, and set him free. | 20The king sent and released him, the ruler of peoples set him free. |
He made him lord of his house And ruler over all his possessions, | 21He made him master of his household, ruler over all he possessed, |
To imprison his princes at will, That he might teach his elders wisdom. | 22to instruct his princes as he pleased and teach his elders wisdom. |
Israel also came into Egypt; Thus Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. | 23Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob resided as a foreigner in the land of Ham. |
And He caused His people to be very fruitful, And made them stronger than their adversaries. | 24The LORD made his people very fruitful; he made them too numerous for their foes, |
He turned their heart to hate His people, To deal craftily with His servants. | 25whose hearts he turned to hate his people, to conspire against his servants. |
He sent Moses His servant, And Aaron, whom He had chosen. | 26He sent Moses his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. |
They performed His wondrous acts among them, And miracles in the land of Ham. | 27They performed his signs among them, his wonders in the land of Ham. |
He sent darkness and made it dark; And they did not rebel against His words. | 28He sent darkness and made the land dark-- for had they not rebelled against his words? |
He turned their waters into blood And caused their fish to die. | 29He turned their waters into blood, causing their fish to die. |
Their land swarmed with frogs Even in the chambers of their kings. | 30Their land teemed with frogs, which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers. |
He spoke, and there came a swarm of flies And gnats in all their territory. | 31He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and gnats throughout their country. |
He gave them hail for rain, And flaming fire in their land. | 32He turned their rain into hail, with lightning throughout their land; |
He struck down their vines also and their fig trees, And shattered the trees of their territory. | 33he struck down their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their country. |
He spoke, and locusts came, And young locusts, even without number, | 34He spoke, and the locusts came, grasshoppers without number; |
And ate up all vegetation in their land, And ate up the fruit of their ground. | 35they ate up every green thing in their land, ate up the produce of their soil. |
He also struck down all the firstborn in their land, The first fruits of all their vigor. | 36Then he struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their manhood. |
Then He brought them out with silver and gold, And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled. | 37He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no one faltered. |
Egypt was glad when they departed, For the dread of them had fallen upon them. | 38Egypt was glad when they left, because dread of Israel had fallen on them. |
He spread a cloud for a covering, And fire to illumine by night. | 39He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night. |
They asked, and He brought quail, And satisfied them with the bread of heaven. | 40They asked, and he brought them quail; he fed them well with the bread of heaven. |
He opened the rock and water flowed out; It ran in the dry places like a river. | 41He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a river in the desert. |
For He remembered His holy word With Abraham His servant; | 42For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham. |
And He brought forth His people with joy, His chosen ones with a joyful shout. | 43He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy; |
He gave them also the lands of the nations, That they might take possession of the fruit of the peoples' labor, | 44he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for-- |
So that they might keep His statutes And observe His laws, Praise the LORD! | 45that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the LORD. |
