| 4He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. | 8But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Get up and stand in front of everyone." So he got up and stood there. | 8But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” And he rose and stood there. |

| 17He went down with them and stood on a level place. | 19and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. | 19And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all. |
| 20Looking at his disciples, he said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. | 20And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. |
| 21Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. | 21“Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. |
| 22Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. | 22“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! |
| 23"Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets. | 23Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. |
| 24"But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. | 24“But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. |
| 25Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. | 25“Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry. “Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. |
| 26Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets. | 26“Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets. |

| 29If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. | 29To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. |
| 30Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. | 30Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. |

| 32"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. | 32“If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. |
| 33And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. | 33And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. |
| 34And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. | 34And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. |
| 35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. | 35But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. |

| 41"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? | 41Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? |
| 42How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. | 42How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye. |
| 43"No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. | 43“For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, |
| 44Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. | 44for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. |
| 45A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. | 45The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. |

| 48They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. | 48he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. |
| 49But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." | 49But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” |
