David sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.1And David spoke the words of this song to the LORD in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
He said: "The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;2He said, "The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior-- from violent people you save me.3My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; My savior, You save me from violence.
"I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and have been saved from my enemies.4"I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies.
The waves of death swirled about me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.5"For the waves of death encompassed me; The torrents of destruction overwhelmed me;
The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.6The cords of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me.
"In my distress I called to the LORD; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.7"In my distress I called upon the LORD, Yes, I cried to my God; And from His temple He heard my voice, And my cry for help came into His ears.
The earth trembled and quaked, the foundations of the heavens shook; they trembled because he was angry.8"Then the earth shook and quaked, The foundations of heaven were trembling And were shaken, because He was angry.
Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it.9"Smoke went up out of His nostrils, Fire from His mouth devoured; Coals were kindled by it.
He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet.10"He bowed the heavens also, and came down With thick darkness under His feet.
He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind.11"And He rode on a cherub and flew; And He appeared on the wings of the wind.
He made darkness his canopy around him-- the dark rain clouds of the sky.12"And He made darkness canopies around Him, A mass of waters, thick clouds of the sky.
Out of the brightness of his presence bolts of lightning blazed forth.13"From the brightness before Him Coals of fire were kindled.
The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.14"The LORD thundered from heaven, And the Most High uttered His voice.
He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy, with great bolts of lightning he routed them.15"And He sent out arrows, and scattered them, Lightning, and routed them.
The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at the rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of breath from his nostrils.16"Then the channels of the sea appeared, The foundations of the world were laid bare By the rebuke of the LORD, At the blast of the breath of His nostrils.
"He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.17"He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters.
He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.18"He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support.19"They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the LORD was my support.
He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.20"He also brought me forth into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.
"The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.21"The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.
For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I am not guilty of turning from my God.22"For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And have not acted wickedly against my God.
All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees.23"For all His ordinances were before me, And as for His statutes, I did not depart from them.
I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin.24"I was also blameless toward Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity.
The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in his sight.25"Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to my cleanness before His eyes.
"To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless,26"With the kind You show Yourself kind, With the blameless You show Yourself blameless;
to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.27With the pure You show Yourself pure, And with the perverted You show Yourself astute.
You save the humble, but your eyes are on the haughty to bring them low.28"And You save an afflicted people; But Your eyes are on the haughty whom You abase.
You, LORD, are my lamp; the LORD turns my darkness into light.29"For You are my lamp, O LORD; And the LORD illumines my darkness.
With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.30"For by You I can run upon a troop; By my God I can leap over a wall.
"As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD's word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.31"As for God, His way is blameless; The word of the LORD is tested; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God?32"For who is God, besides the LORD? And who is a rock, besides our God?
It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.33"God is my strong fortress; And He sets the blameless in His way.
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.34"He makes my feet like hinds' feet, And sets me on my high places.
He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.35"He trains my hands for battle, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
You make your saving help my shield; your help has made me great.36"You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, And Your help makes me great.
You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.37"You enlarge my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped.
"I pursued my enemies and crushed them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed.38"I pursued my enemies and destroyed them, And I did not turn back until they were consumed.
I crushed them completely, and they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet.39"And I have devoured them and shattered them, so that they did not rise; And they fell under my feet.
You armed me with strength for battle; you humbled my adversaries before me.40"For You have girded me with strength for battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.
You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes.41"You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, And I destroyed those who hated me.
They cried for help, but there was no one to save them-- to the LORD, but he did not answer.42"They looked, but there was none to save; Even to the LORD, but He did not answer them.
I beat them as fine as the dust of the earth; I pounded and trampled them like mud in the streets.43"Then I pulverized them as the dust of the earth; I crushed and stamped them as the mire of the streets.
"You have delivered me from the attacks of the peoples; you have preserved me as the head of nations. People I did not know now serve me,44"You have also delivered me from the contentions of my people; You have kept me as head of the nations; A people whom I have not known serve me.
foreigners cower before me; as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.45"Foreigners pretend obedience to me; As soon as they hear, they obey me.
They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds.46"Foreigners lose heart, And come trembling out of their fortresses.
"The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Savior!47"The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock; And exalted be God, the rock of my salvation,
He is the God who avenges me, who puts the nations under me,48The God who executes vengeance for me, And brings down peoples under me,
who sets me free from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from a violent man you rescued me.49Who also brings me out from my enemies; You even lift me above those who rise up against me; You rescue me from the violent man.
Therefore I will praise you, LORD, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name.50"Therefore I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the nations, And I will sing praises to Your name.
"He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever."51"He is a tower of deliverance to His king, And shows lovingkindness to His anointed, To David and his descendants forever."
