Broken Bondage

שִׁ֥יר (A song). מִ֝זְמוֹר (A Psalm) לִבְנֵי־ (of the sons) קֹֽרַח׃ (of Korah).

1גָּ֘ד֤וֹל (Great is) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH),

וּמְהֻלָּ֣ל (and to be praised) מְאֹ֑ד (greatly)

בְּעִ֥יר (in the city) אֱ֝לֹהֵ֗ינוּ (of our God),

הַר־ (the mountain) קָדְשֽׁוֹ׃ (of His holiness).

2  יְפֵ֥ה (Beautiful in) נוֹף֮ (elevation),

מְשׂ֪וֹשׂ (the joy) כָּל־ (of all) הָ֫אָ֥רֶץ (the earth),

הַר־ (is Mount) צִ֭יּוֹן (Zion), יַרְכְּתֵ֣י (like the peaks) צָפ֑וֹן (of Zaphon),

קִ֝רְיַ֗ת (the city) מֶ֣לֶךְ (of the King) רָֽב׃ (great).

3  אֱלֹהִ֥ים (God is) בְּאַרְמְנוֹתֶ֗יהָ (in her citadels);

נוֹדַ֥ע (known) לְמִשְׂגָּֽב׃ (as a secure height).

4  כִּֽי־ (For) הִנֵּ֣ה (behold), הַ֭מְּלָכִים (the kings) נֽוֹעֲד֑וּ (assembled);

עָבְר֥וּ (they passed over) יַחְדָּֽו׃ (together).

5  הֵ֣מָּה (They) רָ֭אוּ (saw)— כֵּ֣ן (so) תָּמָ֑הוּ (they were astonished);

נִבְהֲל֥וּ (they were in dismay), נֶחְפָּֽזוּ׃ (and they hurried away).

6  רְ֭עָדָה (Trembling) אֲחָזָ֣תַם (took hold of them) שָׁ֑ם (there),

חִ֝֗יל (and writhing) כַּיּוֹלֵֽדָה׃ (like a woman in labor).

7  בְּר֥וּחַ (With a wind) קָדִ֑ים (east)

תְּ֝שַׁבֵּ֗ר (you broke apart) אֳנִיּ֥וֹת (the ships) תַּרְשִֽׁישׁ׃ (of Tarshish).

8  כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר (According to what) שָׁמַ֨עְנוּ׀ (we have heard), כֵּ֤ן (so) רָאִ֗ינוּ (we have seen),

בְּעִיר־ (in the city) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) צְ֭בָאוֹת (of Hosts),

בְּעִ֣יר (in the city) אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ (of our God):

אֱלֹ֘הִ֤ים (God) יְכוֹנְנֶ֖הָ (will establish her) עַד־ (even to) עוֹלָ֣ם (forever).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah).

9  דִּמִּ֣ינוּ (We have reflected) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (O God), חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ (on Your loving devotion).

בְּ֝קֶ֗רֶב (Within) הֵיכָלֶֽךָ׃ (Your temple),

10  כְּשִׁמְךָ֤ (according to Your name), אֱלֹהִ֗ים (O God), כֵּ֣ן (so) תְּ֭הִלָּתְךָ (Your praise)

עַל־ (is unto) קַצְוֵי־ (the ends) אֶ֑רֶץ (of the earth);

צֶ֝֗דֶק (of righteousness) מָלְאָ֥ה (is full) יְמִינֶֽךָ׃ (Your right hand).

11  יִשְׂמַ֤ח׀ (Let be glad) הַר־ (Mount) צִיּ֗וֹן (Zion);

תָּ֭גֵלְנָה (let rejoice) בְּנ֣וֹת (the daughters) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah)

לְ֝מַ֗עַן (on account) מִשְׁפָּטֶֽיךָ׃ (of Your judgments).

12  סֹ֣בּוּ (Go around) צִ֭יּוֹן (Zion), וְהַקִּיפ֑וּהָ (and encircle her),

סִ֝פְר֗וּ (and count) מִגְדָּלֶֽיהָ׃ (her towers).

13  שִׁ֤יתוּ (Set) לִבְּכֶ֨ם׀ (your⁺ heart) לְֽחֵילָ֗ה (toward her bulwark),

פַּסְּג֥וּ (pass between) אַרְמְנוֹתֶ֑יהָ (her citadels),

לְמַ֥עַן (so that) תְּ֝סַפְּר֗וּ (you⁺ may recount it) לְד֣וֹר (to the generation) אַחֲרֽוֹן׃ (following).

14  כִּ֤י (For) זֶ֨ה׀ (this is) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (God) אֱ֭לֹהֵינוּ (Our God) עוֹלָ֣ם (forever) וָעֶ֑ד (and ever);

ה֖וּא (He) יְנַהֲגֵ֣נוּ (will lead us) עַל־ (over) מֽוּת׃ (death).
