Leviticus 26
CSB Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Christian Standard BibleInternational Standard Version
"Do not make idols for yourselves, set up a carved image or sacred pillar for yourselves, or place a sculpted stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the LORD your God.1"You are not to make worthless idols, images, or pillars for yourselves, nor set up for yourselves carved images to bow down to them in the land, because I am the LORD your God.
Keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary; I am the LORD.2"You are to keep my Sabbath and fear my sanctuary. I am the LORD.
"If you follow my statutes and faithfully observe my commands,3"If you live by my statutes, obey my commands, and observe them,
I will give you rain at the right time, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.4then I'll send your rain in its season so that the land will yield its produce and the trees of the field will yield their fruit.
Your threshing will continue until grape harvest, and the grape harvest will continue until sowing time; you will have plenty of food to eat and live securely in your land.5Threshing will extend to the time of vintage and the vintage will extend to the time of sowing, so that you'll eat your bread to your satisfaction and live securely in your land.
I will give peace to the land, and you will lie down with nothing to frighten you. I will remove dangerous animals from the land, and no sword will pass through your land.6I'll give peace in the land so that you'll lie down without fear. I'll remove wild beasts from the land, and not even war will come to your land.
You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword.7Instead, you'll pursue your enemies and they'll die by the sword before you.
Five of you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you will pursue ten thousand; your enemies will fall before you by the sword.8Five of you will chase a hundred, a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.
"I will turn to you, make you fruitful and multiply you, and confirm my covenant with you.9"I'll look after you, ensuring that you'll be fruitful. I'll increase your number and keep my covenant with you.
You will eat the old grain of the previous year and will clear out the old to make room for the new.10When you have consumed what was stored of the old, then you'll take out the old and replace it with what's new.
I will place my residence among you, and I will not reject you.11I'll set up my tent in your midst and I won't loathe you.
I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.12I'll walk among you. I will be your God, and you'll be my people.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to live in freedom.13I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you will no longer be their slaves, since I've broken their oppressive yoke upon you to make you walk upright."
"But if you do not obey me and observe all these commands--14"But if you won't listen to me and obey all these commands,
if you reject my statutes and despise my ordinances, and do not observe all my commands--and break my covenant,15and if you refuse my statutes, loathe my ordinances, and fail to carry out all of my commands, thereby breaching my covenant,
then I will do this to you: I will bring terror on you--wasting disease and fever that will cause your eyes to fail and your life to ebb away. You will sow your seed in vain because your enemies will eat it.16then I will certainly do this to you: I'll appoint sudden terror to infect you like tuberculosis and fever. Your eyes will fail and your life will waste away. You'll plant in vain, because your enemies will consume what you plant.
I will turn against you, so that you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even though no one is pursuing you.17I'll set my face against you so that you'll be defeated before your enemies. Those who hate you will have dominion over you and you'll keep fleeing even when no one is pursuing you.
"But if after these things you will not obey me, I will proceed to discipline you seven times for your sins.18"If, despite all of this, you still don't listen to me, then I'll punish you seven times more on account of your sins.
I will break down your strong pride. I will make your sky like iron and your land like bronze,19I'll break your mighty pride. I'll make the heavens to be like iron and the ground like bronze.
and your strength will be used up for nothing. Your land will not yield its produce, and the trees of the land will not bear their fruit.20Your strength will be spent in vain, because your land won't yield its produce and the trees of the land won't yield their fruit.
"If you act with hostility toward me and are unwilling to obey me, I will multiply your plagues seven times for your sins.21"If you live life contrary to me and remain unwilling to listen to me, then I'll add to your wounds seven times more on account of your sins.
I will send wild animals against you that will deprive you of your children, ravage your livestock, and reduce your numbers until your roads are deserted.22I'll send wild beasts against you from the open country to deprive you of your children, destroy your cattle, and decrease your number so that your roads become desolate.
"If in spite of these things you do not accept my discipline, but act with hostility toward me,23"If, despite these things, you still won't return to me, but live life contrary to me,
then I will act with hostility toward you; I also will strike you seven times for your sins.24then I'll certainly oppose you. I'll take vengeance against you seven fold on account of your sins.
I will bring a sword against you to execute the vengeance of the covenant. Though you withdraw into your cities, I will send a pestilence among you, and you will be delivered into enemy hands.25I'll bring the sword against you to execute the vengeance of my covenant. When you gather in your cities, I'll send a pestilence. As a result, you'll be delivered into the control of your enemies.
When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will bake your bread in a single oven and ration out your bread by weight, so that you will eat but not be satisfied.26When I destroy the source of your bread, ten women will bake bread in one oven. Then they'll return back your bread by weight. You'll eat but won't be satisfied.
"And if in spite of this you do not obey me but act with hostility toward me,27"If, after all of this time, you don't listen to me, but instead live life contrary to me,
I will act with furious hostility toward you; I will also discipline you seven times for your sins.28I'll oppose you with vicious rage. Indeed, I myself will punish you seven fold on account of your sins.
You will eat the flesh of your sons; you will eat the flesh of your daughters.29At that time, you'll eat the flesh of your sons and you'll eat the flesh of your daughters.
I will destroy your high places, cut down your shrines, and heap your lifeless bodies on the lifeless bodies of your idols; I will reject you.30I'll destroy your high places and cut down your sun pillars. Then I'll cast your dead bodies on top of the bodies of your idols. I'll loathe you.
I will reduce your cities to ruins and devastate your sanctuaries. I will not smell the pleasing aroma of your sacrifices.31I'll lay your cities to waste and destroy your sanctuaries so I don't have to smell the scent of your soothing odors.
I also will devastate the land, so that your enemies who come to live there will be appalled by it.32I'll make the land so desolate that your enemies who live in it will be astonished."
But I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw a sword to chase after you. So your land will become desolate, and your cities will become ruins.33"I'll scatter you among the nations and draw the sword after you so that your land becomes desolate and your towns become ruins.
"Then the land will make up for its Sabbath years during the time it lies desolate, while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time the land will rest and make up for its Sabbaths.34Then the land will finally be pleased with its Sabbaths as long as it lies desolate while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time, the land will rest and take its Sabbaths.
As long as it lies desolate, it will have the rest it did not have during your Sabbaths when you lived there.35As long as it lies desolate, it will have rest that it will not have had during your Sabbaths when you were living in it.
"I will put anxiety in the hearts of those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a wind-driven leaf will put them to flight, and they will flee as one flees from a sword, and fall though no one is pursuing them.36"As for the remnants among you, I'll bring despair in their hearts in the land of their enemies so that even the sound of a blown leaf will chase them and they flee as though pursued by the sword and fall when no one is pursuing.
They will stumble over one another as if fleeing from a sword though no one is pursuing them. You will not be able to stand against your enemies.37They'll stumble over each other as though fleeing before the sword, even though no one is pursuing. "You won't have power to resist your enemies.
You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you.38You'll perish among the nations and the land of your enemies will consume you.
Those who survive in the lands of your enemies will waste away because of their iniquity; they will also waste away because of their fathers' iniquities along with theirs.39The remnants among you will waste away in the land of your enemies due to their iniquity. Indeed, they'll also waste away on account of the iniquities of their ancestors with them."
"But when they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers--their unfaithfulness that they practiced against me, and how they acted with hostility toward me,40"Nevertheless, when they confess their iniquity, the iniquity of their ancestors, and their unfaithfulness by which they acted unfaithfully against me by living life contrary to me—
and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies--and when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they make amends for their iniquity,41causing me to oppose them and take them to the land of their enemies so that the uncircumcised foreskin of their hearts can be humbled and so that they accept the punishment of their iniquity—
then I will remember my covenant with Jacob. I will also remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.42then I'll remember my covenant with Jacob, my covenant with Isaac, and my covenant with Abraham. I'll also remember the land.
For the land abandoned by them will make up for its Sabbaths by lying desolate without the people, while they make amends for their iniquity, because they rejected my ordinances and abhorred my statutes.43They will leave the land so it can rest while it lies desolate without them. That's when they'll receive the punishment of their iniquity, because indeed they will have rejected my ordinances and despised my statutes.
Yet in spite of this, while they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject or abhor them so as to destroy them and break my covenant with them, since I am the LORD their God.44Yet, despite all of these things, when they're in the land of their enemies, I won't reject or despise them so as to completely destroy them and by doing so violate my covenant with them, because I am the LORD their God.
For their sake I will remember the covenant with their fathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God; I am the LORD."45Instead, on account of them, I'll remember my covenant with their ancestors when I brought them out of the land of Egypt right before the eyes of the nations, so that I could be their God. I am the LORD."
These are the statutes, ordinances, and laws the LORD established between himself and the Israelites through Moses on Mount Sinai.46These are the statutes, ordinances, and laws that the LORD made between himself and the Israelis on Mount Sinai, as recorded by the hand of Moses.
