"Do not make idols for yourselves, set up a carved image or sacred pillar for yourselves, or place a sculpted stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the LORD your God.1Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.
Keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary; I am the LORD.2Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.
"If you follow my statutes and faithfully observe my commands,3If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
I will give you rain at the right time, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.4Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
Your threshing will continue until grape harvest, and the grape harvest will continue until sowing time; you will have plenty of food to eat and live securely in your land.5And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
I will give peace to the land, and you will lie down with nothing to frighten you. I will remove dangerous animals from the land, and no sword will pass through your land.6And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.
You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword.7And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.
Five of you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you will pursue ten thousand; your enemies will fall before you by the sword.8And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.
"I will turn to you, make you fruitful and multiply you, and confirm my covenant with you.9For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.
You will eat the old grain of the previous year and will clear out the old to make room for the new.10And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.
I will place my residence among you, and I will not reject you.11And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.
I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.12And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to live in freedom.13I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.
"But if you do not obey me and observe all these commands--14But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;
if you reject my statutes and despise my ordinances, and do not observe all my commands--and break my covenant,15And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:
then I will do this to you: I will bring terror on you--wasting disease and fever that will cause your eyes to fail and your life to ebb away. You will sow your seed in vain because your enemies will eat it.16I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
I will turn against you, so that you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even though no one is pursuing you.17And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.
"But if after these things you will not obey me, I will proceed to discipline you seven times for your sins.18And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
I will break down your strong pride. I will make your sky like iron and your land like bronze,19And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:
and your strength will be used up for nothing. Your land will not yield its produce, and the trees of the land will not bear their fruit.20And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.
"If you act with hostility toward me and are unwilling to obey me, I will multiply your plagues seven times for your sins.21And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.
I will send wild animals against you that will deprive you of your children, ravage your livestock, and reduce your numbers until your roads are deserted.22I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.
"If in spite of these things you do not accept my discipline, but act with hostility toward me,23And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;
then I will act with hostility toward you; I also will strike you seven times for your sins.24Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.
I will bring a sword against you to execute the vengeance of the covenant. Though you withdraw into your cities, I will send a pestilence among you, and you will be delivered into enemy hands.25And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will bake your bread in a single oven and ration out your bread by weight, so that you will eat but not be satisfied.26And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.
"And if in spite of this you do not obey me but act with hostility toward me,27And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;
I will act with furious hostility toward you; I will also discipline you seven times for your sins.28Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.
You will eat the flesh of your sons; you will eat the flesh of your daughters.29And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.
I will destroy your high places, cut down your shrines, and heap your lifeless bodies on the lifeless bodies of your idols; I will reject you.30And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.
I will reduce your cities to ruins and devastate your sanctuaries. I will not smell the pleasing aroma of your sacrifices.31And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.
I also will devastate the land, so that your enemies who come to live there will be appalled by it.32And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.
But I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw a sword to chase after you. So your land will become desolate, and your cities will become ruins.33And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.
"Then the land will make up for its Sabbath years during the time it lies desolate, while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time the land will rest and make up for its Sabbaths.34Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.
As long as it lies desolate, it will have the rest it did not have during your Sabbaths when you lived there.35As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.
"I will put anxiety in the hearts of those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a wind-driven leaf will put them to flight, and they will flee as one flees from a sword, and fall though no one is pursuing them.36And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.
They will stumble over one another as if fleeing from a sword though no one is pursuing them. You will not be able to stand against your enemies.37And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.
You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you.38And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.
Those who survive in the lands of your enemies will waste away because of their iniquity; they will also waste away because of their fathers' iniquities along with theirs.39And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.
"But when they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers--their unfaithfulness that they practiced against me, and how they acted with hostility toward me,40If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;
and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies--and when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they make amends for their iniquity,41And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:
then I will remember my covenant with Jacob. I will also remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.42Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.
For the land abandoned by them will make up for its Sabbaths by lying desolate without the people, while they make amends for their iniquity, because they rejected my ordinances and abhorred my statutes.43The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.
Yet in spite of this, while they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject or abhor them so as to destroy them and break my covenant with them, since I am the LORD their God.44And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.
For their sake I will remember the covenant with their fathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God; I am the LORD."45But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.
These are the statutes, ordinances, and laws the LORD established between himself and the Israelites through Moses on Mount Sinai.46These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
