The Amalekites had long opposed Israel and had been marked for judgment because of their repeated hostility toward God’s people. Those defeated by the Simeonites were survivors of earlier conflicts who had escaped destruction. Their removal completed the Simeonite campaign in the region of Mount Seir.

(43) The rest of the Amalekites that were escaped.--Literally, the remnant of the survivors (peletah, an abstract collective word) belonging to Amalek. These Amalekites are usually supposed to have been some who had taken refuge in Seir from Saul and David's exterminating wars (1Samuel 14:48; 1Samuel 15:7; 2Samuel 8:12. Comp. 1Chronicles 1:36, where Amalek appears as a partly Edomite stock.)

1 Chronicles 4:43 records God’s faithfulness in eliminating a long-standing enemy through Simeon’s descendants. They finished the task commanded generations earlier, settled the reclaimed territory, and remained there “to this day,” demonstrating that when God speaks, His word is sure, His justice certain, and His blessings for obedience lasting.
