Elisha’s Prophecy of Plenty
1 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And said) אֱלִישָׁ֔ע (Elisha), שִׁמְע֖וּ (Hear) דְּבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH)! כֹּ֣ה׀ (Thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH): כָּעֵ֤ת׀ (About this time) מָחָר֙ (tomorrow) סְאָֽה־ (a seah) סֹ֣לֶת (of fine flour) בְּשֶׁ֗קֶל (will be for a shekel), וְסָאתַ֧יִם (and two seahs) שְׂעֹרִ֛ים (of barley) בְּשֶׁ֖קֶל (for a shekel), בְּשַׁ֥עַר (in the gate) שֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃ (of Samaria).
2 וַיַּ֣עַן (And answered) הַשָּׁלִ֡ישׁ (the officer) אֲשֶׁר־ (whom) לַמֶּלֶךְ֩ (the king) נִשְׁעָ֨ן (leaned) עַל־ (on) יָד֜וֹ (his hand) אֶת־ (-) אִ֣ישׁ (the man) הָאֱלֹהִים֮ (of God), וַיֹּאמַר֒ (and said), הִנֵּ֣ה (Behold), יְהוָ֗ה (if YHWH) עֹשֶׂ֤ה (would make) אֲרֻבּוֹת֙ (windows) בַּשָּׁמַ֔יִם (in the heavens), הֲיִהְיֶ֖ה (could come to pass) הַדָּבָ֣ר (the thing) הַזֶּ֑ה (this)?
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר (And he said), הִנְּכָ֤ה (Behold, you), רֹאֶה֙ (shall see it) בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ (with your eyes), וּמִשָּׁ֖ם (and from there) לֹ֥א (not) תֹאכֵֽל׃ס (shall you eat).

3 וְאַרְבָּעָ֧ה (And four) אֲנָשִׁ֛ים (men) הָי֥וּ (there were) מְצֹרָעִ֖ים (leprous) פֶּ֣תַח (at the entrance) הַשָּׁ֑עַר (of the gate), וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ (and they said) אִ֣ישׁ (one) אֶל־ (to) רֵעֵ֔הוּ (another), מָ֗ה (Why)— אֲנַ֛חְנוּ (we) יֹשְׁבִ֥ים (are sitting) פֹּ֖ה (here) עַד־ (until) מָֽתְנוּ׃ (we die)?
4 אִם־ (If) אָמַרְנוּ֩ (we say), נָב֨וֹא (We will enter) הָעִ֜יר (the city), וְהָרָעָ֤ב (and the famine is) בָּעִיר֙ (in the city), וָמַ֣תְנוּ (and we shall die) שָׁ֔ם (there). וְאִם־ (And if) יָשַׁ֥בְנוּ (we sit) פֹ֖ה (here), וָמָ֑תְנוּ (and we shall die). וְעַתָּ֗ה (And now) לְכוּ֙ (come) וְנִפְּלָה֙ (and let us surrender) אֶל־ (to) מַחֲנֵ֣ה (the camp) אֲרָ֔ם (of Aram). אִם־ (If) יְחַיֻּ֣נוּ (they keep us alive), נִֽחְיֶ֔ה (we shall live). וְאִם־ (And if) יְמִיתֻ֖נוּ (they put us to death), וָמָֽתְנוּ׃ (and we shall die).
5 וַיָּק֣וּמוּ (And they arose) בַנֶּ֔שֶׁף (in the twilight) לָב֖וֹא (to go in) אֶל־ (to) מַחֲנֵ֣ה (the camp) אֲרָ֑ם (of Aram), וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ (and they came in) עַד־ (to) קְצֵה֙ (the outskirts) מַחֲנֵ֣ה (of the camp) אֲרָ֔ם (of Aram). וְהִנֵּ֥ה (And behold), אֵֽין־ (not) שָׁ֖ם (there was) אִֽישׁ׃ (a man).
6 וַאדֹנָ֞י (And for the Lord) הִשְׁמִ֣יעַ׀ (had caused to hear) אֶת־ (-) מַחֲנֵ֣ה (the army) אֲרָ֗ם (of Aram) ק֥וֹל (the noise) רֶ֙כֶב֙ (of chariot), ק֣וֹל (and the noise) ס֔וּס (of horse), ק֖וֹל (the noise) חַ֣יִל (of a force) גָּד֑וֹל (great). וַיֹּאמְר֞וּ (And they said) אִ֣ישׁ (one) אֶל־ (to) אָחִ֗יו (another), הִנֵּ֣ה (Behold), שָֽׂכַר־ (has hired) עָלֵינוּ֩ (against us) מֶ֨לֶךְ (the king) יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל (of Israel) אֶת־ (-) מַלְכֵ֧י (the kings) הַחִתִּ֛ים (of the Hittites) וְאֶת־ (and) מַלְכֵ֥י (the kings) מִצְרַ֖יִם (of Egypt) לָב֥וֹא (to come) עָלֵֽינוּ׃ (against us).
7 וַיָּקוּמוּ֮ (And they arose) וַיָּנ֣וּסוּ (and fled) בַנֶּשֶׁף֒ (in the twilight) וַיַּעַזְב֣וּ (and they abandoned) אֶת־ (-) אָהֳלֵיהֶ֗ם (their tents) וְאֶת־ (and) סֽוּסֵיהֶם֙ (their horses) וְאֶת־ (and) חֲמֹ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם (their donkeys)— הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה (the camp) כַּאֲשֶׁר־ (as) הִ֑יא (it was)— וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ (and they fled) אֶל־ (for) נַפְשָֽׁם׃ (their life).
8 וַיָּבֹאוּ֩ (And came) הַֽמְצֹרָעִ֨ים (the lepers) הָאֵ֜לֶּה (these) עַד־ (to) קְצֵ֣ה (the outskirts) הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗ה (of the camp), וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ (and they went) אֶל־ (into) אֹ֤הֶל (tent) אֶחָד֙ (one) וַיֹּאכְל֣וּ (and ate), וַיִּשְׁתּ֔וּ (and drank), וַיִּשְׂא֣וּ (and carried) מִשָּׁ֗ם (from it) כֶּ֤סֶף (silver) וְזָהָב֙ (and gold) וּבְגָדִ֔ים (and clothing), וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ (and went) וַיַּטְמִ֑נוּ (and hid them), וַיָּשֻׁ֗בוּ (and they turned back) וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ (and entered) אֶל־ (into) אֹ֣הֶל (tent) אַחֵ֔ר (another) וַיִּשְׂא֣וּ (and lifted up) מִשָּׁ֔ם (from there), וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ (and went) וַיַּטְמִֽנוּ׃ (and hid it).
9 וַיֹּאמְרוּ֩ (And they said) אִ֨ישׁ (one) אֶל־ (to) רֵעֵ֜הוּ (another), לֹֽא־ (Not) כֵ֣ן׀ (right) אֲנַ֣חְנוּ (we) עֹשִׂ֗ים (are doing). הַיּ֤וֹם (The day) הַזֶּה֙ (this) יוֹם־ (a day) בְּשֹׂרָ֣ה (of good news) ה֔וּא (is), וַאֲנַ֣חְנוּ (and we) מַחְשִׁ֗ים (remain silent). וְחִכִּ֛ינוּ (And if we wait) עַד־ (until) א֥וֹר (the light), הַבֹּ֖קֶר (of the morning) וּמְצָאָ֣נוּ (then will find us) עָו֑וֹן (punishment). וְעַתָּה֙ (And now) לְכ֣וּ (come) וְנָבֹ֔אָה (and let us go) וְנַגִּ֖ידָה (and declare it) בֵּ֥ית (to the house) הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (of the king).
10 וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ (And they went) וַֽיִּקְרְאוּ֮ (and called) אֶל־ (to) שֹׁעֵ֣ר (the gatekeepers) הָעִיר֒ (of the city) וַיַּגִּ֤ידוּ (and declared) לָהֶם֙ (to them), לֵאמֹ֔ר (saying), בָּ֚אנוּ (We went) אֶל־ (to) מַחֲנֵ֣ה (the camp) אֲרָ֔ם (of Aram), וְהִנֵּ֥ה (and behold), אֵֽין־ (not) שָׁ֛ם (there was) אִ֖ישׁ (a man) וְק֣וֹל (or the sound) אָדָ֑ם (of man), כִּ֣י (but) אִם־ (only) הַסּ֤וּס (the horse) אָסוּר֙ (tied), וְהַחֲמ֣וֹר (and donkey) אָס֔וּר (tied), וְאֹהָלִ֖ים (and the tents) כַּאֲשֶׁר־ (as) הֵֽמָּה׃ (they were).
11 וַיִּקְרָ֖א (And called out) הַשֹּֽׁעֲרִ֑ים (the gatekeepers); וַיַּגִּ֕ידוּ (and they told it) בֵּ֥ית (to the house) הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (of the king) פְּנִֽימָה׃ (within).
12 וַיָּ֨קָם (And arose) הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ (the king) לַ֗יְלָה (in the night), וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ (and said) אֶל־ (to) עֲבָדָ֔יו (his servants), אַגִּֽידָה־ (Let me declare), נָּ֣א (please), לָכֶ֔ם (to you⁺) אֵ֛ת (-) אֲשֶׁר־ (what) עָ֥שׂוּ (have done) לָ֖נוּ (to us) אֲרָ֑ם (Aram). יָדְע֞וּ (They know) כִּי־ (that) רְעֵבִ֣ים (hungry) אֲנַ֗חְנוּ (we are); וַיֵּצְא֤וּ (and they have gone) מִן־ (out) הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֙ (of the camp) לְהֵחָבֵ֤ה (to hide themselves) בְהַשָּׂדֶה (in the field), לֵאמֹ֔ר (saying), כִּֽי־ (When) יֵצְא֤וּ (they come out) מִן־ (of) הָעִיר֙ (the city), וְנִתְפְּשֵׂ֣ם (and we shall catch them) חַיִּ֔ים (alive) וְאֶל־ (and into) הָעִ֖יר (the city) נָבֹֽא׃ (enter).
13 וַיַּעַן֩ (And answered) אֶחָ֨ד (one) מֵעֲבָדָ֜יו (of his servants) וַיֹּ֗אמֶר (and said), וְיִקְחוּ־ (And let them take), נָ֞א (please), חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה (five) מִן־ (of) הַסּוּסִים֮ (the horses) הַֽנִּשְׁאָרִים֮ (remaining), אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which) נִשְׁאֲרוּ־ (are left) בָהּ֒ (in city). הִנָּ֗ם (Behold), כְּכָל־ (they are as all) הֶהָמוֹן (the multitude) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) נִשְׁאֲרוּ־ (are left) בָ֔הּ (in it)— הִנָּ֕ם (indeed), כְּכָל־ (like all) הֲמ֥וֹן (the multitude) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of the Israel) אֲשֶׁר־ (left from those who) תָּ֑מּוּ (are consumed). וְנִשְׁלְחָ֖ה (And let us send them) וְנִרְאֶֽה׃ (and see).
14 וַיִּקְח֕וּ (And they took) שְׁנֵ֖י (two) רֶ֣כֶב (chariot) סוּסִ֑ים (horses), וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח (and sent them) הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ (the king) אַחֲרֵ֧י (in the direction) מַחֲנֵֽה־ (of the camp) אֲרָ֛ם (of Aram), לֵאמֹ֖ר (saying), לְכ֥וּ (Go) וּרְאֽוּ׃ (and see).
15 וַיֵּלְכ֣וּ (And they went) אַחֲרֵיהֶם֮ (after them) עַד־ (to) הַיַּרְדֵּן֒ (the Jordan). וְהִנֵּ֣ה (And behold), כָל־ (all) הַדֶּ֗רֶךְ (the way) מְלֵאָ֤ה (was full) בְגָדִים֙ (of garments) וְכֵלִ֔ים (and vessels) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) הִשְׁלִ֥יכוּ (had cast away) אֲרָ֖ם (Aram) בְּהֵחָפְזָם (in their haste). וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ (And returned) הַמַּלְאָכִ֔ים (the messengers) וַיַּגִּ֖דוּ (and told) לַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (the king).
Elisha’s Prophecy Fulfilled
16 וַיֵּצֵ֣א (And went out) הָעָ֔ם (the people) וַיָּבֹ֕זּוּ (and plundered) אֵ֖ת (-) מַחֲנֵ֣ה (the tents) אֲרָ֑ם (of Aram). וַיְהִ֨י (And there was) סְאָה־ (a seah) סֹ֜לֶת (of fine flour) בְּשֶׁ֗קֶל (for a shekel), וְסָאתַ֧יִם (and two seahs) שְׂעֹרִ֛ים (of barley) בְּשֶׁ֖קֶל (for a shekel), כִּדְבַ֥ר (according to the word) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).
17 וְהַמֶּלֶךְ֩ (And the king) הִפְקִ֨יד (had appointed) אֶת־ (-) הַשָּׁלִ֜ישׁ (the officer) אֲשֶׁר־ (whom) נִשְׁעָ֤ן (leaned) עַל־ (on) יָדוֹ֙ (his hand) עַל־ (to be over) הַשַּׁ֔עַר (of the gate), וַיִּרְמְסֻ֧הוּ (and trampled him) הָעָ֛ם (the people) בַּשַּׁ֖עַר (in the gate) וַיָּמֹ֑ת (and he died), כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר (as) דִּבֶּר֙ (had said) אִ֣ישׁ (the man) הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים (of God) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) דִּבֶּ֔ר (spoke) בְּרֶ֥דֶת (when came down) הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (the king) אֵלָֽיו׃ (to him).
18 וַיְהִ֗י (And it came to pass) כְּדַבֵּר֙ (according to the speaking) אִ֣ישׁ (of the man) הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים (of God) אֶל־ (to) הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (the king), לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), סָאתַ֨יִם (Two seahs) שְׂעֹרִ֜ים (of barley) בְּשֶׁ֗קֶל (for a shekel), וּֽסְאָה־ (and a seah) סֹ֙לֶת֙ (of fine flour) בְּשֶׁ֔קֶל (for a shekel) יִהְיֶה֙ (will be) כָּעֵ֣ת (about this time) מָחָ֔ר (tomorrow) בְּשַׁ֖עַר (in the gate) שֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃ (of Samaria).

20 וַיְהִי־ (And so it came to pass) ל֖וֹ (to him) כֵּ֑ן (thus), וַיִּרְמְס֨וּ (and trampled) אֹת֥וֹ (him) הָעָ֛ם (the people) בַּשַּׁ֖עַר (in the gate), וַיָּמֹֽת׃ס (and he died).
