The Basket of Summer Fruit
1 כֹּ֥ה (Thus) הִרְאַ֖נִי (has shown me) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֑ה (YHWH) וְהִנֵּ֖ה (and behold) כְּל֥וּב (a basket) קָֽיִץ׃ (of summer fruit).
2 וַיֹּ֗אמֶר (And He said), מָֽה־ (What) אַתָּ֤ה (are you)? רֹאֶה֙ (Seeing) עָמ֔וֹס (Amos),
וָאֹמַ֖ר (and I said), כְּל֣וּב (A basket) קָ֑יִץ (of summer fruit).
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (And said) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֵלַ֗י (to me) בָּ֤א (Has come) הַקֵּץ֙ (the end) אֶל־ (for) עַמִּ֣י (My people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel); לֹא־ (not) אוֹסִ֥יף (will I continue) ע֖וֹד (anymore) עֲב֥וֹר (to pass) לֽוֹ׃ (over him).
3 וְהֵילִ֜ילוּ (And they will wail) שִׁיר֤וֹת (the songs) הֵיכָל֙ (of the temple) בַּיּ֣וֹם (on the day), הַה֔וּא (that) נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֣י (of the Lord) יְהוִ֑ה (YHWH) רַ֣ב (Many) הַפֶּ֔גֶר (a corpse) בְּכָל־ (in every) מָק֖וֹם (place); הִשְׁלִ֥יךְ (is strewn) הָֽס׃פ (Silence).
4 שִׁמְעוּ־ (Hear) זֹ֕את (this), הַשֹּׁאֲפִ֖ים (those swallowing up) אֶבְי֑וֹן (the needy),
וְלַשְׁבִּ֖ית (and causing to cease), עַנְוֵי (the poor) אָֽרֶץ׃ (of the land).
5 לֵאמֹ֗ר (Saying), מָתַ֞י (When) יַעֲבֹ֤ר (will pass), הַחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ (the New Moon)
וְנַשְׁבִּ֣ירָה (so that we may sell) שֶּׁ֔בֶר (grain)?
וְהַשַּׁבָּ֖ת (And the Sabbath),
וְנִפְתְּחָה־ (that we may trade) בָּ֑ר (wheat),
לְהַקְטִ֤ין (making small) אֵיפָה֙ (the ephah), וּלְהַגְדִּ֣יל (and making large), שֶׁ֔קֶל (the shekel)
וּלְעַוֵּ֖ת (and cheating) מֹאזְנֵ֥י (with scales) מִרְמָֽה׃ (of deceit)?
6 לִקְנ֤וֹת (To acquire) בַּכֶּ֙סֶף֙ (with silver), דַּלִּ֔ים (the poor)
וְאֶבְי֖וֹן (and the needy) בַּעֲב֣וּר (for) נַעֲלָ֑יִם (a pair of sandals);
וּמַפַּ֥ל (even the chaff) בַּ֖ר (with the wheat) נַשְׁבִּֽיר׃ (selling)?
7 נִשְׁבַּ֥ע (Has sworn) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) בִּגְא֣וֹן (by the pride) יַעֲקֹ֑ב (of Jacob),
אִם־ (Not) אֶשְׁכַּ֥ח (I will forget) לָנֶ֖צַח (to the end) כָּל־ (any) מַעֲשֵׂיהֶֽם׃ (of their works).
8 הַ֤עַל (Over) זֹאת֙ (this), לֹֽא־ (not) תִרְגַּ֣ז (will quake) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the land)
וְאָבַ֖ל (and will mourn) כָּל־ (every) יוֹשֵׁ֣ב (one dwelling) בָּ֑הּ (in it)
וְעָלְתָ֤ה (and will rise up) כָאֹר֙ (like the River); כֻּלָּ֔הּ (all of it)
וְנִגְרְשָׁ֥ה (and it will surge) וְנִשְׁקָה (and subside),
כִּיא֥וֹר (like the River) מִצְרָֽיִם׃ס (of Egypt).
9 וְהָיָ֣ה׀ (And it will come to pass) בַּיּ֣וֹם (in the day), הַה֗וּא (that)
נְאֻם֙ (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֣י (of the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH),
וְהֵבֵאתִ֥י (that I will make go down) הַשֶּׁ֖מֶשׁ (the sun) בַּֽצָּהֳרָ֑יִם (at noon),
וְהַחֲשַׁכְתִּ֥י (and I will bring darkness) לָאָ֖רֶץ (to the earth) בְּי֥וֹם (in the daytime) אֽוֹר׃ (light).
10 וְהָפַכְתִּ֨י (And I will turn) חַגֵּיכֶ֜ם (your⁺ feasts) לְאֵ֗בֶל (to mourning),
וְכָל־ (and all) שִֽׁירֵיכֶם֙ (your⁺ songs) לְקִינָ֔ה (to lamentation);
וְהַעֲלֵיתִ֤י (and I will bring up) עַל־ (over) כָּל־ (all) מָתְנַ֙יִם֙ (loins), שָׂ֔ק (sackcloth)
וְעַל־ (and on) כָּל־ (every) רֹ֖אשׁ (head); קָרְחָ֑ה (baldness)
וְשַׂמְתִּ֙יהָ֙ (and I will set it) כְּאֵ֣בֶל (like mourning) יָחִ֔יד (for an only son)
וְאַחֲרִיתָ֖הּ (and its end) כְּי֥וֹם (like a day) מָֽר׃ (most bitter).
11 הִנֵּ֣ה׀ (Behold), יָמִ֣ים (the days) בָּאִ֗ים (are coming),
נְאֻם֙ (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֣י (of the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH),
וְהִשְׁלַחְתִּ֥י (and I will send) רָעָ֖ב (a famine) בָּאָ֑רֶץ (on the land),
לֹֽא־ (not) רָעָ֤ב (a famine) לַלֶּ֙חֶם֙ (of bread), וְלֹֽא־ (and not) צָמָ֣א (a thirst) לַמַּ֔יִם (for the water),
כִּ֣י (but) אִם־ (rather) לִשְׁמֹ֔עַ (of hearing) אֵ֖ת (-) דִּבְרֵ֥י (the words) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).
12 וְנָעוּ֙ (And they will wander) מִיָּ֣ם (from sea) עַד־ (to) יָ֔ם (sea),
וּמִצָּפ֖וֹן (and from the north) וְעַד־ (and to) מִזְרָ֑ח (the east), יְשֽׁוֹטְט֛וּ (they will roam about)
לְבַקֵּ֥שׁ (seeking) אֶת־ (-) דְּבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH),
וְלֹ֥א (not) יִמְצָֽאוּ׃ (will they find it).
13 בַּיּ֨וֹם (On the day) הַה֜וּא (that)
תִּ֠תְעַלַּפְנָה (will faint) הַבְּתוּלֹ֧ת (the virgins) הַיָּפ֛וֹת (beautiful)
וְהַבַּחוּרִ֖ים (and the young men) בַּצָּמָֽא׃ (from the thirst).
14 הַנִּשְׁבָּעִים֙ (Those swearing) בְּאַשְׁמַ֣ת (by the guilt) שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן (of Samaria),
וְאָמְר֗וּ (and having said), חֵ֤י (Lives); אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ (your god), דָּ֔ן (O Dan),
וְחֵ֖י (and By the life); דֶּ֣רֶךְ (of the way) בְּאֵֽר־ (of Beer-) שָׁ֑בַע (sheba)
וְנָפְל֖וּ (and they will fall), וְלֹא־ (and not) יָק֥וּמוּ (will they rise) עֽוֹד׃ס (again).
