Amaziah Reigns in Judah
(2 Chronicles 25:1–4)

1  בִּשְׁנַ֣ת (In the year) שְׁתַּ֔יִם (second) לְיוֹאָ֥שׁ (of Joash) בֶּן־ (son) יוֹאָחָ֖ז (of Jehoahaz) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), מָלַ֛ךְ (became king) אֲמַצְיָ֥הוּ (Amaziah) בֶן־ (son) יוֹאָ֖שׁ (of Joash) מֶ֥לֶךְ (king) יְהוּדָֽה׃ (of Judah). 2  בֶּן־ (A son) עֶשְׂרִ֨ים (of twenty) וְחָמֵ֤שׁ (and five) שָׁנָה֙ (years) הָיָ֣ה (he was) בְמָלְכ֔וֹ (in his reigning), וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים (and twenty) וָתֵ֙שַׁע֙ (and nine) שָׁנָ֔ה (years) מָלַ֖ךְ (he reigned) בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (in Jerusalem). וְשֵׁ֣ם (And the name) אִמּ֔וֹ (of His mother) יְהוֹעַדִּין (was Jehoaddan) מִן־ (of) יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (Jerusalem). 3  וַיַּ֤עַשׂ (And he did) הַיָּשָׁר֙ (right) בְּעֵינֵ֣י (in the eyes) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), רַ֕ק (yet) לֹ֖א (not) כְּדָוִ֣ד (like David) אָבִ֑יו (his father). כְּכֹ֧ל (According to all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) עָשָׂ֛ה (he did), יוֹאָ֥שׁ (Joash) אָבִ֖יו (his father) עָשָֽׂה׃ (had done).

4  רַ֥ק (However) הַבָּמ֖וֹת (the high places) לֹא־ (not) סָ֑רוּ (were taken away); ע֥וֹד (still) הָעָ֛ם (the people) מְזַבְּחִ֥ים (sacrificed) וּֽמְקַטְּרִ֖ים (and burned incense) בַּבָּמֽוֹת׃ (on the high places).

5  וַיְהִ֕י (And it came to pass) כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as soon as) חָזְקָ֥ה (was established) הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה (the kingdom) בְּיָד֑וֹ (in his hand), וַיַּךְ֙ (that he killed) אֶת־ (-) עֲבָדָ֔יו (his servants) הַמַּכִּ֖ים (who had struck) אֶת־ (-) הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ (the king) אָבִֽיו׃ (his father). 6  וְאֶת־ (And) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) הַמַּכִּ֖ים (of those striking) לֹ֣א (not) הֵמִ֑ית (he did kill), כַּכָּת֣וּב (as it is written) בְּסֵ֣פֶר (in the Book) תּֽוֹרַת־ (of the Law) מֹ֠שֶׁה (of Moses) אֲשֶׁר־ (in which) צִוָּ֨ה (commanded) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH), לֵאמֹ֗ר (saying), לֹא־ (Not) יוּמְת֨וּ (shall be put to death) אָב֤וֹת (fathers) עַל־ (for) בָּנִים֙ (their children), וּבָנִים֙ (and children) לֹא־ (not) יוּמְת֣וּ (shall be put to death) עַל־ (for) אָב֔וֹת (their fathers); כִּ֛י (for) אִם־ (but) אִ֥ישׁ (a person) בְּחֶטְא֖וֹ (for his own sin) יָמוּת׃ (shall be put to death).

7  הוּא־ (He) הִכָּ֨ה (struck) אֶת־ (-) אֱד֤וֹם (Edom) בְּגֵיא־ (in the Valley) הַמֶּלַח (of Salt)— עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת (ten) אֲלָפִ֔ים (thousand)— וְתָפַ֥שׂ (and he seized) אֶת־ (-) הַסֶּ֖לַע (Sela) בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה (by war) וַיִּקְרָ֤א (and called) אֶת־ (-) שְׁמָהּ֙ (its name) יָקְתְאֵ֔ל (Joktheel) עַ֖ד (to) הַיּ֥וֹם (the day) הַזֶּֽה׃פ (this).

Jehoash Defeats Amaziah
(2 Chronicles 25:17–24)

8  אָ֣ז (Then) שָׁלַ֤ח (sent) אֲמַצְיָה֙ (Amaziah) מַלְאָכִ֔ים (messengers) אֶל־ (to) יְהוֹאָ֨שׁ (Jehoash) בֶּן־ (son) יְהוֹאָחָ֧ז (of Jehoahaz), בֶּן־ (son) יֵה֛וּא (of Jehu) מֶ֥לֶךְ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel), לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), לְכָ֖ה (Come), נִתְרָאֶ֥ה (let us cause to be seen) פָנִֽים׃ (our faces).

9  וַיִּשְׁלַ֞ח (And sent) יְהוֹאָ֣שׁ (Jehoash) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel) אֶל־ (to) אֲמַצְיָ֣הוּ (Amaziah) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יְהוּדָה֮ (of Judah), לֵאמֹר֒ (saying), הַח֜וֹחַ (The thistle) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that was) בַּלְּבָנ֗וֹן (in Lebanon) שָׁ֠לַח (sent) אֶל־ (to) הָאֶ֜רֶז (the cedar) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that was) בַּלְּבָנוֹן֙ (in Lebanon), לֵאמֹ֔ר (saying), תְּנָֽה־ (Give) אֶת־ (-) בִּתְּךָ֥ (your daughter) לִבְנִ֖י (to my son) לְאִשָּׁ֑ה (as wife). וַֽתַּעֲבֹ֞ר (And passed by) חַיַּ֤ת (a beast) הַשָּׂדֶה֙ (of the field) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that was) בַּלְּבָנ֔וֹן (in Lebanon), וַתִּרְמֹ֖ס (and trampled) אֶת־ (-) הַחֽוֹחַ׃ (the thistle). 10  הַכֵּ֤ה (Striking) הִכִּ֙יתָ֙ (You have struck) אֶת־ (-) אֱד֔וֹם (Edom), וּֽנְשָׂאֲךָ֖ (and has lifted you up) לִבֶּ֑ךָ (your heart). הִכָּבֵד֙ (Be honored) וְשֵׁ֣ב (and stay) בְּבֵיתֶ֔ךָ (at home). וְלָ֤מָּה (And why) תִתְגָּרֶה֙ (should you stir yourself up) בְּרָעָ֔ה (in evil) וְנָ֣פַלְתָּ֔ה (so that you will fall)— אַתָּ֖ה (you) וִיהוּדָ֥ה (and Judah) עִמָּֽךְ׃ (with you).

11  וְלֹא־ (And not) שָׁמַ֣ע (would listen) אֲמַצְיָ֔הוּ (Amaziah), וַיַּ֨עַל (and went up) יְהוֹאָ֤שׁ (Jehoash) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel). וַיִּתְרָא֣וּ (And they cause to be seen) פָנִ֔ים (their faces)— ה֖וּא (he) וַאֲמַצְיָ֣הוּ (and Amaziah) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah) בְּבֵ֥ית (at Beth-) שֶׁ֖מֶשׁ (shemesh), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which is) לִיהוּדָֽה׃ (unto Judah). 12  וַיִּנָּ֥גֶף (And was defeated) יְהוּדָ֖ה (Judah) לִפְנֵ֣י (by) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (Israel), וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ (and they fled) אִ֥ישׁ (each man) לְאָהֳלוֹ׃ (to his tent).

13  וְאֵת֩ (And) אֲמַצְיָ֨הוּ (Amaziah) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יְהוּדָ֜ה (of Judah), בֶּן־ (son) יְהוֹאָ֣שׁ (of Jehoash) בֶּן־ (son) אֲחַזְיָ֗הוּ (of Ahaziah), תָּפַ֛שׂ (captured) יְהוֹאָ֥שׁ (Jehoash) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) בְּבֵ֣ית (at Beth-) שָׁ֑מֶשׁ (shemesh).

וַיָּבֹאוּ (And he went in) יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם (to Jerusalem) וַיִּפְרֹץ֩ (and he broke down) בְּחוֹמַ֨ת (the wall) יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם (of Jerusalem), בְּשַׁ֤עַר (from the Gate) אֶפְרַ֙יִם֙ (of Ephraim) עַד־ (to) שַׁ֣עַר (the Gate) הַפִּנָּ֔ה (of the Corner)— אַרְבַּ֥ע (four) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) אַמָּֽה׃ (cubits). 14  וְלָקַ֣ח (And he took) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הַזָּהָב־ (the gold) וְ֠הַכֶּסֶף (and the silver) וְאֵ֨ת (and) כָּל־ (all) הַכֵּלִ֜ים (the articles) הַנִּמְצְאִ֣ים (that were found) בֵּית־ (in the house) יְהוָ֗ה (of YHWH) וּבְאֹֽצְרוֹת֙ (and in the treasuries) בֵּ֣ית (of house) הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ (of the king), וְאֵ֖ת (and) בְּנֵ֣י (and the sons) הַתַּֽעֲרֻב֑וֹת (of the pledges), וַיָּ֖שָׁב (and he returned) שֹׁמְרֽוֹנָה׃ (to Samaria).

Jeroboam II Succeeds Jehoash in Israel

15  וְיֶתֶר֩ (And the rest) דִּבְרֵ֨י (of the acts) יְהוֹאָ֜שׁ (of Jehoash) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) עָשָׂה֙ (he did), וּגְב֣וּרָת֔וֹ (and his might), וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר (and how) נִלְחַ֔ם (he fought) עִ֖ם (with) אֲמַצְיָ֣הוּ (Amaziah) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah), הֲלֹא־ (are not) הֵ֣ם (they) כְּתוּבִ֗ים (written) עַל־ (in) סֵ֛פֶר (the Book) דִּבְרֵ֥י (of the Words) הַיָּמִ֖ים (of the Days) לְמַלְכֵ֥י (of the Kings) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel)?

16  וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב (And rested) יְהוֹאָשׁ֙ (Jehoash) עִם־ (with) אֲבֹתָ֔יו (his fathers) וַיִּקָּבֵר֙ (and was buried) בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן (in Samaria) עִ֖ם (with) מַלְכֵ֣י (the kings) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel). וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ (And reigned) יָרָבְעָ֥ם (Jeroboam) בְּנ֖וֹ (his son) תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ (in his place).

The Death of Amaziah
(2 Chronicles 25:25–28)

17  וַיְחִ֨י (And lived) אֲמַצְיָ֤הוּ (Amaziah) בֶן־ (son) יוֹאָשׁ֙ (of Joash) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) יְהוּדָ֔ה (of Judah) אַֽחֲרֵ֣י (after) מ֔וֹת (the death) יְהוֹאָ֥שׁ (of Jehoash) בֶּן־ (son) יְהֽוֹאָחָ֖ז (of Jehoahaz) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel) חֲמֵ֥שׁ (five) עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה (and ten) שָׁנָֽה׃ (years). 18  וְיֶ֖תֶר (And the rest) דִּבְרֵ֣י (of the acts) אֲמַצְיָ֑הוּ (of Amaziah), הֲלֹא־ (are not) הֵ֣ם (they) כְּתוּבִ֗ים (written) עַל־ (in) סֵ֛פֶר (the Book) דִּבְרֵ֥י (of the Words) הַיָּמִ֖ים (of the Days) לְמַלְכֵ֥י (of the Kings) יְהוּדָֽה׃ (of Judah)?

19  וַיִּקְשְׁר֨וּ (And they formed) עָלָ֥יו (against him) קֶ֛שֶׁר (a conspiracy) בִּירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם (in Jerusalem), וַיָּ֣נָס (and he fled) לָכִ֑ישָׁה (to Lachish). וַיִּשְׁלְח֤וּ (And they sent) אַֽחֲרָיו֙ (after him) לָכִ֔ישָׁה (to Lachish), וַיְמִתֻ֖הוּ (and they killed him) שָֽׁם׃ (there). 20  וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ (And they lifted him up) אֹת֖וֹ (him) עַל־ (on) הַסּוּסִ֑ים (the horses), וַיִּקָּבֵ֧ר (and he was buried) בִּירוּשָׁלִַ֛ם (in Jerusalem) עִם־ (with) אֲבֹתָ֖יו (his fathers) בְּעִ֥יר (in the City) דָּוִֽד׃ (of David).

Azariah Succeeds Amaziah in Judah
(2 Chronicles 26:1–2)

21  וַיִּקְח֞וּ (And took) כָּל־ (all) עַ֤ם (the people) יְהוּדָה֙ (of Judah) אֶת־ (-) עֲזַרְיָ֔ה (Azariah)— וְה֕וּא (and he) בֶּן־ (a son) שֵׁ֥שׁ (of six) עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה (and ten) שָׁנָ֑ה (years)— וַיַּמְלִ֣כוּ (and they made king) אֹת֔וֹ (him) תַּ֖חַת (instead) אָבִ֥יו (of his father) אֲמַצְיָֽהוּ׃ (Amaziah). 22  ה֚וּא (He) בָּנָ֣ה (built) אֶת־ (-) אֵילַ֔ת (Elath) וַיְשִׁבֶ֖הָ (and brought it back) לִֽיהוּדָ֑ה (to Judah) אַחֲרֵ֥י (after) שְׁכַֽב־ (rested) הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (the king) עִם־ (with) אֲבֹתָֽיו׃פ (his fathers).

Jeroboam II Reigns in Israel

23  בִּשְׁנַת֙ (In the year) חֲמֵשׁ־ (five) עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה (and tenth) שָׁנָ֔ה (year) לַאֲמַצְיָ֥הוּ (of Amaziah) בֶן־ (son) יוֹאָ֖שׁ (of Joash) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah), מָ֠לַךְ (became king) יָרָבְעָ֨ם (Jeroboam) בֶּן־ (son) יוֹאָ֤שׁ (of Joash) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן (in Samaria) אַרְבָּעִ֥ים (forty) וְאַחַ֖ת (and one) שָׁנָֽה׃ (years). 24  וַיַּ֥עַשׂ (And he did) הָרַ֖ע (evil) בְּעֵינֵ֣י (in the eyes) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH); לֹ֣א (not) סָ֗ר (he did depart) מִכָּל־ (from all) חַטֹּאות֙ (the sins) יָרָבְעָ֣ם (of Jeroboam) בֶּן־ (son) נְבָ֔ט (of Nebat), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) הֶחֱטִ֖יא (had caused to sin) אֶת־ (-) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel).

25  ה֗וּא (He) הֵשִׁיב֙ (restored) אֶת־ (-) גְּב֣וּל (the border) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) מִלְּב֥וֹא (from the entrance) חֲמָ֖ת (of Hamath) עַד־ (to) יָ֣ם (the Sea) הָעֲרָבָ֑ה (of the Arabah), כִּדְבַ֤ר (according to the word) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which) דִּבֶּ֗ר (He had spoken) בְּיַד־ (through) עַבְדּ֞וֹ (His servant) יוֹנָ֤ה (Jonah) בֶן־ (son) אֲמִתַּי֙ (of Amittai), הַנָּבִ֔יא (the prophet) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (who was) מִגַּ֥ת (from Gath-) הַחֵֽפֶר׃ (hepher). 26  כִּי־ (For) רָאָ֧ה (saw) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) עֳנִ֥י (the affliction) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel)— מֹרֶ֣ה (bitter) מְאֹ֑ד (very)— וְאֶ֤פֶס (and there was none) עָצוּר֙ (restrained), וְאֶ֣פֶס (and none) עָז֔וּב (set free), וְאֵ֥ין (and no) עֹזֵ֖ר (helper) לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (for Israel). 27  וְלֹא־ (And not) דִבֶּ֣ר (had spoken) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) לִמְחוֹת֙ (to blot out) אֶת־ (-) שֵׁ֣ם (the name) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) מִתַּ֖חַת (from under) הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם (the heavens), וַיּ֣וֹשִׁיעֵ֔ם (and He saved them) בְּיַ֖ד (by the hand) יָרָבְעָ֥ם (of Jeroboam) בֶּן־ (son) יוֹאָֽשׁ׃ (of Joash).

28  וְיֶתֶר֩ (And the rest) דִּבְרֵ֨י (of the acts) יָרָבְעָ֜ם (of Jeroboam), וְכָל־ (and all) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) עָשָׂה֙ (he did), וּגְבוּרָת֣וֹ (and his might) אֲשֶׁר־ (with which) נִלְחָ֔ם (he made war) וַאֲשֶׁ֨ר (and with which) הֵשִׁ֜יב (he brought back) אֶת־ (-) דַּמֶּ֧שֶׂק (Damascus) וְאֶת־ (and) חֲמָ֛ת (Hamath) לִיהוּדָ֖ה (of Judah) בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (into Israel), הֲלֹא־ (are not) הֵ֣ם (they) כְּתוּבִ֗ים (written) עַל־ (in) סֵ֛פֶר (the Book) דִּבְרֵ֥י (of the Words) הַיָּמִ֖ים (of the Days) לְמַלְכֵ֥י (of the Kings) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel)?

29  וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב (And rested) יָֽרָבְעָם֙ (Jeroboam) עִם־ (with) אֲבֹתָ֔יו (his fathers), עִ֖ם (with) מַלְכֵ֣י (the kings) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel). וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ (And reigned) זְכַרְיָ֥ה (Zechariah) בְנ֖וֹ (his son) תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ (in his place).
