Elihu Proclaims God’s Majesty

1  אַף־ (Indeed) לְ֭זֹאת (at this) יֶחֱרַ֣ד (trembles) לִבִּ֑י (my heart)

וְ֝יִתַּ֗ר (and it leaps) מִמְּקוֹמֽוֹ׃ (from its place).

2  שִׁמְע֤וּ (May you hear) שָׁמ֣וֹעַ (listening close) בְּרֹ֣גֶז (to the quaking) קֹל֑וֹ (of His voice),

וְ֝הֶ֗גֶה (and the rumbling) מִפִּ֥יו (from His mouth) יֵצֵֽא׃ (that comes forth).

3  תַּֽחַת־ (Beneath) כָּל־ (all) הַשָּׁמַ֥יִם (the heaven) יִשְׁרֵ֑הוּ (He unleashes it),

וְ֝אוֹר֗וֹ (and His lightning) עַל־ (is over) כַּנְפ֥וֹת (the edges) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth).

4  אַחֲרָ֤יו׀ (After it) יִשְׁאַג־ (roars) ק֗וֹל (a voice);

יַ֭רְעֵם (He thunders) בְּק֣וֹל (with the voice) גְּאוֹנ֑וֹ (of His majesty),

וְלֹ֥א (and not) יְ֝עַקְּבֵ֗ם (He does restrain them)

כִּֽי־ (when) יִשָּׁמַ֥ע (is heard) קוֹלֽוֹ׃ (His voice).

5  יַרְעֵ֤ם (Thunders) אֵ֣ל (God) בְּ֭קוֹלוֹ (with His voice) נִפְלָא֑וֹת (wondrously);

עֹשֶׂ֥ה (He does) גְ֝דֹל֗וֹת (great things) וְלֹ֣א (that not) נֵדָֽע׃ (can we know them).

6  כִּ֤י (For) לַשֶּׁ֨לַג׀ (to the snow) יֹאמַ֗ר (He says), הֱוֵ֫א (Fall) אָ֥רֶץ (on the earth),

וְגֶ֥שֶׁם (and to the shower) מָטָ֑ר (of rain), וְ֝גֶ֗שֶׁם (and to the shower) מִטְר֥וֹת (Of the rains) עֻזּֽוֹ׃ (of His might).

7  בְּיַד־ (The hand) כָּל־ (of every) אָדָ֥ם (man) יַחְתּ֑וֹם (He seals up),

לָ֝דַ֗עַת (for the knowing by) כָּל־ (by all) אַנְשֵׁ֥י (men) מַעֲשֵֽׂהוּ׃ (His work).

8  וַתָּבֹ֣א (And comes) חַיָּ֣ה (the beast) בְמוֹ־ (into) אָ֑רֶב (its lair),

וּבִמְע֖וֹנֹתֶ֣יהָ (and in its dens) תִשְׁכֹּֽן׃ (it shall dwell).

9  מִן־ (From) הַ֭חֶדֶר (its chamber) תָּב֣וֹא (comes) סוּפָ֑ה (the whirlwind),

וּֽמִמְּזָרִ֥ים (and from the scattering winds) קָרָֽה׃ (the cold).

10  מִנִּשְׁמַת־ (From the breath) אֵ֥ל (of God) יִתֶּן־ (is given) קָ֑רַח (ice),

וְרֹ֖חַב (and the breadth) מַ֣יִם (of the waters) בְּמוּצָֽק׃ (is in constraint).

11  אַף־ (Also) בְּ֭רִי (with moisture) יַטְרִ֣יחַ (He loads) עָ֑ב (the thick cloud);

יָ֝פִ֗יץ (and scatters) עֲנַ֣ן (the cloud) אוֹרֽוֹ׃ (His lightning).

12  וְה֤וּא (And it) מְסִבּ֨וֹת׀ (turns around),

מִתְהַפֵּ֣ךְ (being turned about) בְּתַחְבּוּלָתוֹ (by His guidance),

לְפָעֳלָ֑ם (to do) כֹּ֖ל (all) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (of what) יְצַוֵּ֓ם׀ (He commands them)

עַל־ (above) פְּנֵ֖י (the face) תֵבֵ֣ל (of the habitation) אָֽרְצָה׃ (of the earth).

13  אִם־ (If) לְשֵׁ֥בֶט (for the rod) אִם־ (if) לְאַרְצ֑וֹ (for His land),

אִם־ (if) לְ֝חֶ֗סֶד (in His loving devotion), יַמְצִאֵֽהוּ׃ (He makes it find it).

14  הַאֲזִ֣ינָה (Give ear) זֹּ֣את (to this), אִיּ֑וֹב (O Job);

עֲ֝מֹ֗ד (stand) וְהִתְבּוֹנֵ֤ן׀ (and consider) נִפְלְא֬וֹת (the wonders) אֵֽל׃ (of God).

15  הֲ֭תֵדַע (Do you know) בְּשׂוּם־ (does place) אֱל֣וֹהַּ (by God) עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם (upon them)

וְ֝הוֹפִ֗יעַ (and how He causes to shine) א֣וֹר (the light) עֲנָנֽוֹ׃ (of His cloud)?

16  הֲ֭תֵדַע (Do you know) עַל־ (about) מִפְלְשֵׂי־ (the balancing) עָ֑ב (of the cloud),

מִ֝פְלְא֗וֹת (the wonders) תְּמִ֣ים (of the One perfect) דֵּעִֽים׃ (knowledge)?

17  אֲשֶׁר־ (You for whom) בְּגָדֶ֥יךָ (your garments) חַמִּ֑ים (are hot)

בְּהַשְׁקִ֥ט (in the quieting) אֶ֝֗רֶץ (of the earth) מִדָּרֽוֹם׃ (from the south).

18  תַּרְקִ֣יעַ (Have you beaten) עִ֭מּוֹ (with him) לִשְׁחָקִ֑ים (the skies),

חֲ֝זָקִ֗ים (strong) כִּרְאִ֥י (as a mirror) מוּצָֽק׃ (of cast metal)?

19  ה֭וֹדִיעֵנוּ (Make us know) מַה־ (what) נֹּ֣אמַר (we should say) ל֑וֹ (to Him);

לֹ֥א־ (not) נַ֝עֲרֹ֗ךְ (can we arrange) מִפְּנֵי־ (from the face) חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃ (of the darkness).

20  הַֽיְסֻפַּר־ (Should it be told) ל֭וֹ (to Him) כִּ֣י (that) אֲדַבֵּ֑ר (I would speak)?

אִֽם־ (If) אָ֥מַר (spoke) אִ֝֗ישׁ (a man), כִּ֣י (that) יְבֻלָּֽע׃ (he would be swallowed up).

21  וְעַתָּ֤ה׀ (And now) לֹ֘א (not) רָ֤אוּ (can they look at) א֗וֹר (the light)

בָּהִ֣יר (bright) ה֭וּא (it is) בַּשְּׁחָקִ֑ים (in the clouds)

וְר֥וּחַ (and the wind) עָ֝בְרָ֗ה (has passed over) וַֽתְּטַהֲרֵֽם׃ (and cleansed them).

22  מִ֭צָּפוֹן (From the north) זָהָ֣ב (gold) יֶֽאֱתֶ֑ה (comes);

עַל־ (upon) אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ (God is) נ֣וֹרָא (a fearsome) הֽוֹד׃ (majesty).

23  שַׁדַּ֣י (Shaddai), לֹֽא־ (not) מְ֭צָאנֻהוּ (we can find Him out);

שַׂגִּיא־ (He is great in) כֹ֑חַ (power). וּמִשְׁפָּ֥ט (And judgment)

וְרֹב־ (and abundant in) צְ֝דָקָ֗ה (righteousness)

לֹ֣א (not) יְעַנֶּֽה׃ (does He oppress).

24  לָ֭כֵן (Therefore) יְרֵא֣וּהוּ (fear Him) אֲנָשִׁ֑ים (men);

לֹֽא־ (not) יִ֝רְאֶ֗ה (does He regard) כָּל־ (any) חַכְמֵי־ (of the wise) לֵֽב׃פ (of heart).
