The Mighty One Calls

מִזְמ֗וֹר (A Psalm) לְאָ֫סָ֥ף (of Asaph).

1אֵ֤ל׀ (God), אֱ‍ֽלֹהִ֡ים (of gods) יְֽהוָ֗ה (YHWH),

דִּבֶּ֥ר (speaks) וַיִּקְרָא־ (and calls) אָ֑רֶץ (the earth),

מִמִּזְרַח־ (from the rising) שֶׁ֝֗מֶשׁ (of the sun) עַד־ (to) מְבֹאֽוֹ׃ (the going down).

2  מִצִּיּ֥וֹן (From Zion), מִכְלַל־ (the perfection) יֹ֗פִי (of beauty),

אֱלֹהִ֥ים (God) הוֹפִֽיעַ׃ (shines forth).

3  יָ֤בֹ֥א (Shall come) אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ (our God) וְֽאַל־ (and not) יֶ֫חֱרַ֥שׁ (will He keep silent);

אֵשׁ־ (a fire) לְפָנָ֥יו (before His face) תֹּאכֵ֑ל (devours),

וּ֝סְבִיבָ֗יו (and all around Him) נִשְׂעֲרָ֥ה (it will storm) מְאֹֽד׃ (exceedingly).

4  יִקְרָ֣א (He calls) אֶל־ (to) הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם (the heavens) מֵעָ֑ל (from above),

וְאֶל־ (and to) הָ֝אָ֗רֶץ (the earth), לָדִ֥ין (to the judging of) עַמּֽוֹ׃ (His people):

5  אִסְפוּ־ (Gather) לִ֥י (to Me) חֲסִידָ֑י (My holy ones)

כֹּרְתֵ֖י (those having cut) בְרִיתִ֣י (a covenant with Me) עֲלֵי־ (by) זָֽבַח׃ (sacrifice).

6  וַיַּגִּ֣ידוּ (And let declare) שָׁמַ֣יִם (the heavens) צִדְק֑וֹ (His righteousness),

כִּֽי־ (for) אֱלֹהִ֓ים׀ (God) שֹׁפֵ֖ט (is Judge) ה֣וּא (Himself).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

7  שִׁמְעָ֤ה (Hear), עַמִּ֨י׀ (O My people), וַאֲדַבֵּ֗רָה (and I will speak),

יִ֭שְׂרָאֵל (O Israel), וְאָעִ֣ידָה (and I will testify) בָּ֑ךְ (against you):

אֱלֹהִ֖ים (God) אֱלֹהֶ֣יךָ (your God) אָנֹֽכִי׃ (I am).

8  לֹ֣א (Not) עַל־ (over) זְ֭בָחֶיךָ (your sacrifices) אוֹכִיחֶ֑ךָ (do I rebuke you),

וְעוֹלֹתֶ֖יךָ (or your burnt offerings) לְנֶגְדִּ֣י (before me) תָמִֽיד׃ (continually).

9  לֹא־ (Not) אֶקַּ֣ח (will l take) מִבֵּיתְךָ֣ (from your house) פָ֑ר (a bull),

מִ֝מִּכְלְאֹתֶ֗יךָ (or from your folds) עַתּוּדִֽים׃ (male goats).

10  כִּי־ (For) לִ֥י (is unto Me) כָל־ (is every) חַיְתוֹ־ (living thing) יָ֑עַר (of the forest),

בְּ֝הֵמ֗וֹת (the cattle) בְּהַרְרֵי־ (on hills) אָֽלֶף׃ (a thousand).

11  יָ֭דַעְתִּי (I know) כָּל־ (every) ע֣וֹף (bird) הָרִ֑ים (of the mountains),

וְזִ֥יז (and the wild beast) שָׂ֝דַ֗י (of the field) עִמָּדִֽי׃ (is unto Me).

12  אִם־ (If) אֶ֭רְעַב (I were hungry), לֹא־ (not) אֹ֣מַר (I would say it) לָ֑ךְ (to you),

כִּי־ (for) לִ֥י (of Me) תֵ֝בֵ֗ל (is the world) וּמְלֹאָֽהּ׃ (and its fullness).

13  הַֽ֭אוֹכַל (Do I eat) בְּשַׂ֣ר (the flesh) אַבִּירִ֑ים (of bulls),

וְדַ֖ם (and the blood) עַתּוּדִ֣ים (of goats) אֶשְׁתֶּֽה׃ (do I drink)?

14  זְבַ֣ח (Make a sacrifice) לֵאלֹהִ֣ים (to God) תּוֹדָ֑ה (of thanksgiving),

וְשַׁלֵּ֖ם (and fulfill) לְעֶלְי֣וֹן (to the Most High) נְדָרֶֽיךָ׃ (your vows).

15  וּ֭קְרָאֵנִי (And call on Me) בְּי֣וֹם (in the day) צָרָ֑ה (of distress);

אֲ֝חַלֶּצְךָ֗ (and I will rescue you), וּֽתְכַבְּדֵֽנִי׃ (and you will glorify Me).

16  וְלָ֤רָשָׁ֨ע׀ (And to the wicked) of bulls אָ֘מַ֤ר (says) אֱלֹהִ֗ים (God),

מַה־ (What) לְּ֭ךָ (to you), לְסַפֵּ֣ר (is to recount) חֻקָּ֑י (My statutes),

וַתִּשָּׂ֖א (and to lift up) בְרִיתִ֣י (My covenant) עֲלֵי־ (upon) פִֽיךָ׃ (your mouth)?

17  וְ֭אַתָּה (And you) שָׂנֵ֣אתָ (have hated) מוּסָ֑ר (instruction)

וַתַּשְׁלֵ֖ךְ (and cast) דְּבָרַ֣י (My words) אַחֲרֶֽיךָ׃ (behind you).

18  אִם־ (If) רָאִ֣יתָ (you see) גַ֭נָּב (a thief), וַתִּ֣רֶץ (then you are pleased) עִמּ֑וֹ (with him),

וְעִ֖ם (and with) מְנָאֲפִ֣ים (those committing adultery) חֶלְקֶֽךָ׃ (is your portion).

19  פִּ֭יךָ (With your mouth) שָׁלַ֣חְתָּ (you send forth) בְרָעָ֑ה (evil),

וּ֝לְשׁוֹנְךָ֗ (and your tongue) תַּצְמִ֥יד (weaves) מִרְמָֽה׃ (deceit).

20  תֵּ֭שֵׁב (You sit) בְּאָחִ֣יךָ (against your brother) תְדַבֵּ֑ר (and speak);

בְּבֶֽן־ (against the son) אִ֝מְּךָ֗ (of your mother) תִּתֶּן־ (you place) דֹּֽפִי׃ (fault).

21  אֵ֤לֶּה (These things) עָשִׂ֨יתָ׀ (you have done), וְֽהֶחֱרַ֗שְׁתִּי (and I kept silent);

דִּמִּ֗יתָ (you thought) הֱֽיוֹת־ (being) אֶֽהְיֶ֥ה (I was) כָמ֑וֹךָ (like you);

אוֹכִיחֲךָ֖ (I will rebuke you)

וְאֶֽעֶרְכָ֣ה (and set in array) לְעֵינֶֽיךָ׃ (before your eyes).

22  בִּֽינוּ־ (Understand) נָ֣א (please) זֹ֭את (this), שֹׁכְחֵ֣י (you forgetting) אֱל֑וֹהַּ (God),

פֶּן־ (lest) אֶ֝טְרֹ֗ף (I tear you in pieces),

וְאֵ֣ין (and there is no one) מַצִּֽיל׃ (delivering).

23  זֹבֵ֥חַ (The one making a sacrifice) תּוֹדָ֗ה (of thanksgiving) יְֽכַ֫בְּדָ֥נְנִי (honors Me),

וְשָׂ֥ם (and he who sets) דֶּ֑רֶךְ (his path)

אַ֝רְאֶ֗נּוּ (I will make to look) בְּיֵ֣שַׁע (on the salvation) אֱלֹהִֽים׃ (of God).
