Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover.1Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was near.
And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people.2So the high priests and the scribes were looking for a way to put him to death, because they were afraid of the crowd.
Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve.3But Satan went into Judas called Iscariot, who belonged to the circle of the Twelve.
So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them.4So he went off and discussed with the high priests and the Temple police how he could betray Jesus to them.
And they were glad, and agreed to give him money.5They were delighted, and agreed to give him money.
So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude.6Judas accepted their offer and began to look for a good opportunity to betray Jesus to them when no crowd was present.
Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed.7Then the day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover lamb was to be sacrificed.
And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”8So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover meal."
So they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare?”9They asked him, "Where do you want us to prepare it?"
And He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters.10He told them, "Just after you go into the city, a man carrying a jug of water will meet you. Follow him into the house he enters
Then you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’11and say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher asks you, "Where is the room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?"'
Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready.”12Then he will show you a large upstairs room that is furnished. Get things ready for us there."
So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.13So they went and found everything just as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover meal.
When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him.14Now when the hour came, Jesus took his place at the table, along with his apostles.
Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;15He told them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover meal with you before I suffer,
for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”16because I tell all of you, I will never eat it again until it finds its fulfillment in the kingdom of God."
Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves;17Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and said, "Take this and share it among yourselves,
for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”18because I tell you, from now on I will never drink the product of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."
And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”19Then he took a loaf of bread, gave thanks, broke it in pieces, and handed it to them, saying, "This is my body, which is given for you. Keep on doing this in memory of me."
Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.20He did the same with the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant sealed by my blood, which is being poured out for you.
But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table.21Yet look! The hand of the man who is betraying me is with me on the table!
And truly the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”22The Son of Man is going away, just as it has been determined, but how terrible it will be for that man by whom he is betrayed!"
Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing.23Then they began to discuss among themselves which one of them was going to do this.
Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest.24Now an argument sprang up among them as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest.
And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’25But he told them, "The kings of the unbelievers lord it over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called benefactors.
But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves.26But you are not to do so. On the contrary, the greatest among you should become like the youngest, and the one who leads should become like the one who serves.
For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.27Because who is greater, the one who sits at the table, or the one who serves? It is the one at the table, isn't it? But I'm among you as one who serves.
“But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials.28"You are the ones who have always stood by me in my trials.
And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me,29And I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father has conferred a kingdom on me,
that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”30so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit down on thrones to govern the twelve tribes of Israel."
And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.31"Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has asked permission to sift all of you like wheat,
But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”32but I have prayed for you that your own faith may not fail. When you have come back, you must strengthen your brothers."
But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”33Peter told him, "Lord, I am ready to go even to prison and to die with you!"
Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”34But Jesus said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you deny three times that you know me."
And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?” So they said, “Nothing.”35Then Jesus asked his disciples, "When I sent you out without a wallet, traveling bag, or sandals, you didn't lack anything, did you?" They replied, "Nothing at all."
Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.36Then he told them, "But now whoever has a wallet must take it along, and his traveling bag, too. And the one who has no sword must sell his coat and buy one.
For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For the things concerning Me have an end.”37Because I tell you, what has been written about me must be fulfilled: 'He was counted among the criminals.' Indeed, what is written about me must be fulfilled."
So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”38So they said, "Lord, look! Here are two swords." He answered them, "Enough of that!"
Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him.39Then he left and went to the Mount of Olives, as usual. The disciples went with him.
When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”40When he arrived, he told them, "Keep on praying that you may not be tempted."
And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed,41Then he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, knelt down, and began to pray,
saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”42"Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Yet not my will but yours be done."
Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.43Then an angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.
And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.44In his anguish he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like large drops of blood falling on the ground.
When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow.45When he got up from prayer, he went to the disciples and found them asleep from sorrow.
Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”46He asked them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and keep on praying that you may not be tempted."
And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.47While Jesus was still speaking, a crowd arrived. The man called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them, and he came close to Jesus to kiss him.
But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”48But Jesus asked him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”49When those who were around Jesus saw what was about to take place, they asked, "Lord, should we attack with our swords?"
And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.50Then one of them struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear.
But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him.51But Jesus said, "No more of this!" So he touched the wounded man's ear and healed him.
Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs?52Then Jesus told the high priests, the Temple police, and the elders, who had come for him, "Have you come out with swords and clubs as if I were a bandit?
When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”53While I was with you day after day in the Temple, you didn't lay a hand on me. But this is your hour, when darkness reigns!"
Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance.54Then they arrested him, led him away, and brought him to the high priest's house. But Peter was following at a distance.
Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.55When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had taken their seats, Peter, too, sat down among them.
And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.”56A servant girl saw him sitting by the fire, stared at him, and said, "This man was with him, too."
But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”57But he denied it, "I don't know him, woman!" he responded.
And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”58A little later, a man looked at him and said, "You are one of them, too." But Peter said, "Mister, I am not!"
Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”59About an hour later, another man emphatically asserted, "This man was certainly with him, because he is a Galilean!"
But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.60But Peter said, "Mister, I don't know what you're talking about!" Just then, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”61Then the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. And Peter remembered the word from the Lord, and how he had told him, "Before a rooster crows today, you will deny me three times."
So Peter went out and wept bitterly.62So he went outside and cried bitterly.
Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him.63Then the men who were holding Jesus in custody began to make fun of him while they beat him.
And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?”64They blindfolded him and asked him over and over again, "Prophesy! Who is the one who hit you?"
And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him.65And they kept insulting him in many other ways.
As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying,66As soon as day came, the elders of the people, the high priests, and the scribes assembled and brought him before their Council.
“If You are the Christ, tell us.” But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will by no means believe.67They said, "If you are the Messiah, tell us." But he told them, "If I tell you, you won't believe me,
And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go.68and if I ask you a question, you won't answer me.
Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God.”69But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God."
Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.”70Then they all asked, "Are you, then, the Son of God?" He answered them, "You said it—I AM."
And they said, “What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.”71"Why do we need any more testimony?" they asked. "We have heard it ourselves from his own mouth!"
