Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover.1Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.
And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people.2The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.
Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve.3And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve.
So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them.4And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them.
And they were glad, and agreed to give him money.5They were glad and agreed to give him money.
So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude.6So he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them apart from the crowd.
Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed.7Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”8And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it."
So they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare?”9They said to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare it?"
And He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters.10And He said to them, "When you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters.
Then you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’11"And you shall say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"'
Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready.”12"And he will show you a large, furnished upper room; prepare it there."
So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.13And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him.14When the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him.
Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;15And He said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;
for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”16for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."
Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves;17And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, "Take this and share it among yourselves;
for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”18for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes."
And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”19And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.20And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.
But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table.21"But behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with Mine on the table.
And truly the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”22"For indeed, the Son of Man is going as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!"
Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing.23And they began to discuss among themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do this thing.
Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest.24And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest.
And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’25And He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called 'Benefactors.'
But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves.26"But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.
For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.27"For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.
“But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials.28"You are those who have stood by Me in My trials;
And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me,29and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you
that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”30that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.31"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat;
But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”32but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers."
But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”33But he said to Him, "Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death!"
Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”34And He said, "I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me."
And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?” So they said, “Nothing.”35And He said to them, "When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?" They said, "No, nothing."
Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.36And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.
For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For the things concerning Me have an end.”37"For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, 'AND HE WAS NUMBERED WITH TRANSGRESSORS'; for that which refers to Me has its fulfillment."
So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”38They said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough."
Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him.39And He came out and proceeded as was His custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him.
When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”40When He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation."
And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed,41And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and began to pray,
saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”42saying, "Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done."
Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.43Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him.
And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.44And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.
When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow.45When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow,
Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”46and said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation."
And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.47While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him.
But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”48But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”49When those who were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?"
And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.50And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him.51But Jesus answered and said, "Stop! No more of this." And He touched his ear and healed him.
Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs?52Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders who had come against Him, "Have you come out with swords and clubs as you would against a robber?
When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”53"While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me; but this hour and the power of darkness are yours."
Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance.54Having arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the high priest; but Peter was following at a distance.
Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.55After they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter was sitting among them.
And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.”56And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, "This man was with Him too."
But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”57But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him."
And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”58A little later, another saw him and said, "You are one of them too!" But Peter said, "Man, I am not!"
Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”59After about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, saying, "Certainly this man also was with Him, for he is a Galilean too."
But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.60But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are talking about." Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”61The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, "Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times."
So Peter went out and wept bitterly.62And he went out and wept bitterly.
Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him.63Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking Him and beating Him,
And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?”64and they blindfolded Him and were asking Him, saying, "Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?"
And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him.65And they were saying many other things against Him, blaspheming.
As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying,66When it was day, the Council of elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him away to their council chamber, saying,
“If You are the Christ, tell us.” But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will by no means believe.67"If You are the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe;
And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go.68and if I ask a question, you will not answer.
Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God.”69"But from now on THE SON OF MAN WILL BE SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND of the power OF GOD."
Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.”70And they all said, "Are You the Son of God, then?" And He said to them, "Yes, I am."
And they said, “What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.”71Then they said, "What further need do we have of testimony? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth."
