Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover.1Ἤγγιζεν δὲ ἑορτὴ τῶν ἀζύμων λεγομένη Πάσχα
And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people.2καὶ ἐζήτουν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς τὸ πῶς ἀνέλωσιν αὐτόν ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ τὸν λαόν
Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve.3Εἰσῆλθεν δὲ Σατανᾶς εἰς Ἰούδαν τὸν καλούμενον Ἰσκαριώτην ὄντα ἐκ τοῦ ἀριθμοῦ τῶν δώδεκα
So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them.4καὶ ἀπελθὼν συνελάλησεν τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν καὶ στρατηγοῖς τὸ πῶς αὐτοῖς παραδῷ αὐτόν
And they were glad, and agreed to give him money.5καὶ ἐχάρησαν καὶ συνέθεντο αὐτῷ ἀργύριον δοῦναι
So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude.6καὶ ἐξωμολόγησεν καὶ ἐζήτει εὐκαιρίαν τοῦ παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν ἄτερ ὄχλου αὐτοῖς
Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed.7Ἦλθεν δὲ ἡμέρα τῶν ἀζύμων [ἐν] ἔδει θύεσθαι τὸ πάσχα
And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”8καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰωάννην εἰπών Πορευθέντες ἑτοιμάσατε ἡμῖν τὸ πάσχα ἵνα φάγωμεν
So they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare?”9Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ Ποῦ θέλεις ἑτοιμάσωμεν
And He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters.10 δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἰδοὺ εἰσελθόντων ὑμῶν εἰς τὴν πόλιν συναντήσει ὑμῖν ἄνθρωπος κεράμιον ὕδατος βαστάζων ἀκολουθήσατε αὐτῷ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν εἰς ἣν εἰσπορεύεται
Then you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”
Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready.”12κἀκεῖνος ὑμῖν δείξει ἀνάγαιον μέγα ἐστρωμένον ἐκεῖ ἑτοιμάσατε
So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.13Ἀπελθόντες δὲ εὗρον καθὼς εἰρήκει αὐτοῖς καὶ ἡτοίμασαν τὸ πάσχα
When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him.14Καὶ ὅτε ἐγένετο ὥρα ἀνέπεσεν καὶ οἱ ἀπόστολοι σὺν αὐτῷ
Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;15καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς Ἐπιθυμίᾳ ἐπεθύμησα τοῦτο τὸ πάσχα φαγεῖν μεθ’ ὑμῶν πρὸ τοῦ με παθεῖν
for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”16λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι 〈οὐκέτι〉 οὐ μὴ φάγω αὐτὸ ἕως ὅτου πληρωθῇ ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ Θεοῦ
Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves;17Καὶ δεξάμενος ποτήριον εὐχαριστήσας εἶπεν Λάβετε τοῦτο καὶ διαμερίσατε εἰς ἑαυτούς
for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”18λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν [ὅτι] οὐ μὴ πίω ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ γενήματος τῆς ἀμπέλου ἕως οὗ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ ἔλθῃ
And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”19Καὶ λαβὼν ἄρτον εὐχαριστήσας ἔκλασεν καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς λέγων Τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ σῶμά μου τὸ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν διδόμενον τοῦτο ποιεῖτε εἰς τὴν ἐμὴν ἀνάμνησιν
Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.20καὶ τὸ ποτήριον ὡσαύτως μετὰ τὸ δειπνῆσαι λέγων Τοῦτο τὸ ποτήριον καινὴ διαθήκη ἐν τῷ αἵματί μου τὸ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν ἐκχυννόμενον
But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table.21Πλὴν ἰδοὺ χεὶρ τοῦ παραδιδόντος με μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης
And truly the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”22ὅτι Υἱὸς μὲν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου κατὰ τὸ ὡρισμένον πορεύεται πλὴν οὐαὶ τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ἐκείνῳ δι’ οὗ παραδίδοται
Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing.23Καὶ αὐτοὶ ἤρξαντο συζητεῖν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς τὸ τίς ἄρα εἴη ἐξ αὐτῶν τοῦτο μέλλων πράσσειν
Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest.24Ἐγένετο δὲ καὶ φιλονεικία ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸ τίς αὐτῶν δοκεῖ εἶναι μείζων
And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’25 δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Οἱ βασιλεῖς τῶν ἐθνῶν κυριεύουσιν αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ ἐξουσιάζοντες αὐτῶν εὐεργέται καλοῦνται
But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves.26ὑμεῖς δὲ οὐχ οὕτως ἀλλ’ μείζων ἐν ὑμῖν γινέσθω ὡς νεώτερος καὶ ἡγούμενος ὡς διακονῶν
For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.27τίς γὰρ μείζων ἀνακείμενος διακονῶν οὐχὶ ἀνακείμενος ἐγὼ δὲ ἐν μέσῳ ὑμῶν εἰμι ὡς διακονῶν
“But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials.28Ὑμεῖς δέ ἐστε οἱ διαμεμενηκότες μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐν τοῖς πειρασμοῖς μου
And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me,29κἀγὼ διατίθεμαι ὑμῖν καθὼς διέθετό μοι Πατήρ μου βασιλείαν
that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”30ἵνα ἔσθητε καὶ πίνητε ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης μου ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ μου καὶ καθήσεσθε ἐπὶ θρόνων τὰς δώδεκα φυλὰς κρίνοντες τοῦ Ἰσραήλ
And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.31Σίμων Σίμων ἰδοὺ Σατανᾶς ἐξῃτήσατο ὑμᾶς τοῦ σινιάσαι ὡς τὸν σῖτον
But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”32ἐγὼ δὲ ἐδεήθην περὶ σοῦ ἵνα μὴ ἐκλίπῃ πίστις σου καὶ σύ ποτε ἐπιστρέψας στήρισον τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου
But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”33 δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Κύριε μετὰ σοῦ ἕτοιμός εἰμι καὶ εἰς φυλακὴν καὶ εἰς θάνατον πορεύεσθαι
Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”34 δὲ εἶπεν Λέγω σοι Πέτρε οὐ φωνήσει σήμερον ἀλέκτωρ ἕως τρίς με ἀπαρνήσῃ 〈μὴ〉 εἰδέναι
And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?” So they said, “Nothing.”35Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ὅτε ἀπέστειλα ὑμᾶς ἄτερ βαλλαντίου καὶ πήρας καὶ ὑποδημάτων μή τινος ὑστερήσατε Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Οὐθενός
Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.36Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἀλλὰ νῦν ἔχων βαλλάντιον ἀράτω ὁμοίως καὶ πήραν καὶ μὴ ἔχων πωλησάτω τὸ ἱμάτιον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀγορασάτω μάχαιραν
For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For the things concerning Me have an end.”37λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι τοῦτο τὸ γεγραμμένον δεῖ τελεσθῆναι ἐν ἐμοί Τό Καὶ μετὰ ἀνόμων ἐλογίσθη καὶ γὰρ τὸ περὶ ἐμοῦ τέλος ἔχει
So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”38Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Κύριε ἰδοὺ μάχαιραι ὧδε δύο δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἱκανόν ἐστιν
Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him.39Καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἐπορεύθη κατὰ τὸ ἔθος εἰς τὸ ὄρος τῶν Ἐλαιῶν ἠκολούθησαν δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ οἱ μαθηταί
When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”40γενόμενος δὲ ἐπὶ τοῦ τόπου εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Προσεύχεσθε μὴ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς πειρασμόν
And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed,41Καὶ αὐτὸς ἀπεσπάσθη ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ λίθου βολήν καὶ θεὶς τὰ γόνατα προσηύχετο
saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”42λέγων Πάτερ εἰ βούλει παρένεγκε τοῦτο τὸ ποτήριον ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ πλὴν μὴ τὸ θέλημά μου ἀλλὰ τὸ σὸν γινέσθω
Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.43Ὤφθη δὲ αὐτῷ ἄγγελος ἀπ’ (τοῦ) οὐρανοῦ ἐνισχύων αὐτόν
And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.44καὶ γενόμενος ἐν ἀγωνίᾳ ἐκτενέστερον προσηύχετο καὶ ἐγένετο ἱδρὼς αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ θρόμβοι αἵματος καταβαίνοντες ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν
When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow.45Καὶ ἀναστὰς ἀπὸ τῆς προσευχῆς ἐλθὼν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς εὗρεν κοιμωμένους αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς λύπης
Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”46καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Τί καθεύδετε ἀναστάντες προσεύχεσθε ἵνα μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς πειρασμόν
And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.47Ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἰδοὺ ὄχλος καὶ λεγόμενος Ἰούδας εἷς τῶν δώδεκα προήρχετο αὐτούς καὶ ἤγγισεν τῷ Ἰησοῦ φιλῆσαι αὐτόν
But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”48Ἰησοῦς δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἰούδα φιλήματι τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδως
When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”49Ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ περὶ αὐτὸν τὸ ἐσόμενον εἶπαν Κύριε εἰ πατάξομεν ἐν μαχαίρῃ
And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.50καὶ ἐπάταξεν εἷς τις ἐξ αὐτῶν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως τὸν δοῦλον καὶ ἀφεῖλεν τὸ οὖς αὐτοῦ τὸ δεξιόν
But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him.51Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν Ἐᾶτε ἕως τούτου καὶ ἁψάμενος τοῦ ὠτίου ἰάσατο αὐτόν
Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs?52Εἶπεν δὲ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς τοὺς παραγενομένους ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ στρατηγοὺς τοῦ ἱεροῦ καὶ πρεσβυτέρους Ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξήλθατε μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων
When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”53καθ’ ἡμέραν ὄντος μου μεθ’ ὑμῶν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ οὐκ ἐξετείνατε τὰς χεῖρας ἐπ’ ἐμέ ἀλλ’ αὕτη ἐστὶν ὑμῶν ὥρα καὶ ἐξουσία τοῦ σκότους
Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance.54Συλλαβόντες δὲ αὐτὸν ἤγαγον καὶ εἰσήγαγον εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως δὲ Πέτρος ἠκολούθει μακρόθεν
Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.55Περιαψάντων δὲ πῦρ ἐν μέσῳ τῆς αὐλῆς καὶ συνκαθισάντων ἐκάθητο Πέτρος μέσος αὐτῶν
And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.”56ἰδοῦσα δὲ αὐτὸν παιδίσκη τις καθήμενον πρὸς τὸ φῶς καὶ ἀτενίσασα αὐτῷ εἶπεν Καὶ οὗτος σὺν αὐτῷ ἦν
But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”57 δὲ ἠρνήσατο λέγων Οὐκ οἶδα αὐτόν γύναι
And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”58Καὶ μετὰ βραχὺ ἕτερος ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ἔφη Καὶ σὺ ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶ δὲ Πέτρος ἔφη Ἄνθρωπε οὐκ εἰμί
Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”59Καὶ διαστάσης ὡσεὶ ὥρας μιᾶς ἄλλος τις διϊσχυρίζετο λέγων Ἐπ’ ἀληθείας καὶ οὗτος μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἦν καὶ γὰρ Γαλιλαῖός ἐστιν
But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.60Εἶπεν δὲ Πέτρος Ἄνθρωπε οὐκ οἶδα λέγεις καὶ παραχρῆμα ἔτι λαλοῦντος αὐτοῦ ἐφώνησεν ἀλέκτωρ
And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”61καὶ στραφεὶς Κύριος ἐνέβλεψεν τῷ Πέτρῳ καὶ ὑπεμνήσθη Πέτρος τοῦ λόγου τοῦ Κυρίου ὡς εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὅτι Πρὶν ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι σήμερον ἀπαρνήσῃ με τρίς
So Peter went out and wept bitterly.62καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἔξω ἔκλαυσεν πικρῶς
Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him.63Καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ συνέχοντες αὐτὸν ἐνέπαιζον αὐτῷ δέροντες
And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?”64καὶ περικαλύψαντες αὐτὸν ⧼ἔτυπτον αὐτοῦ τὸ πρόσωπον καὶ⧽ ἐπηρώτων λέγοντες Προφήτευσον τίς ἐστιν παίσας σε
And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him.65καὶ ἕτερα πολλὰ βλασφημοῦντες ἔλεγον εἰς αὐτόν
As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying,66Καὶ ὡς ἐγένετο ἡμέρα συνήχθη τὸ πρεσβυτέριον τοῦ λαοῦ ἀρχιερεῖς τε καὶ γραμματεῖς καὶ ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ συνέδριον αὐτῶν λέγοντες
“If You are the Christ, tell us.” But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will by no means believe.67Εἰ σὺ εἶ Χριστός εἰπὸν ἡμῖν Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἐὰν ὑμῖν εἴπω οὐ μὴ πιστεύσητε
And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go.68ἐὰν δὲ ἐρωτήσω οὐ μὴ ἀποκριθῆτε
Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God.”69ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν δὲ ἔσται Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καθήμενος ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ Θεοῦ
Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.”70Εἶπαν δὲ πάντες Σὺ οὖν εἶ Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ δὲ πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἔφη Ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι
And they said, “What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.”71Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Τί ἔτι ἔχομεν μαρτυρίας χρείαν αὐτοὶ γὰρ ἠκούσαμεν ἀπὸ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ
