I Waited Patiently for Yahweh
(Psalm 70:1–5; Hebrews 10:1–18)
לַ֝מְנַצֵּ֗חַ (For the one directing). לְדָוִ֥ד (Of David) מִזְמֽוֹר׃ (a Psalm).
1קַוֺּ֣ה (Waiting) קִוִּ֣יתִי (I have waited for) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH),
וַיֵּ֥ט (and He inclined) אֵ֝לַ֗י (to me) וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע (and heard) שַׁוְעָתִֽי׃ (my cry).
2 וַיַּעֲלֵ֤נִי׀ (And He brought me up) מִבּ֥וֹר (from the pit) שָׁאוֹן֮ (of desolation),
מִטִּ֪יט (from the mud) הַיָּ֫וֵ֥ן (of the mire),
וַיָּ֖קֶם (and He raised up) עַל־ (upon) סֶ֥לַע (a rock) רַגְלַ֗י (my feet);
כּוֹנֵ֥ן (and has made firm) אֲשֻׁרָֽי׃ (my steps).
3 וַיִּתֵּ֬ן (And He put) בְּפִ֨י׀ (in my mouth) שִׁ֥יר (a song) חָדָשׁ֮ (new)—
תְּהִלָּ֪ה (praise) לֵֽאלֹ֫הֵ֥ינוּ (to our God).
יִרְא֣וּ (Will see it) רַבִּ֣ים (many) וְיִירָ֑אוּ (and will fear),
וְ֝יִבְטְח֗וּ (and they will trust) בַּיהוָֽה׃ (in YHWH).
4 אַ֥שְֽׁרֵי (Blessed is) הַגֶּ֗בֶר (the man)
אֲשֶׁר־ (who) שָׂ֣ם (makes) יְ֭הֹוָה (YHWH) מִבְטַח֑וֹ (his refuge)
וְֽלֹא־ (and not) פָנָ֥ה (does turn) אֶל־ (toward) רְ֝הָבִ֗ים (the proud),
וְשָׂטֵ֥י (and those turning aside) כָזָֽב׃ (to falsehood).
5 רַבּ֤וֹת (Much) עָשִׂ֨יתָ׀ (have done) אַתָּ֤ה׀ (You),
יְהוָ֣ה (O YHWH) אֱלֹהַי֮ (my God)—
נִֽפְלְאֹתֶ֥יךָ (are wonderful) וּמַחְשְׁבֹתֶ֗יךָ (and your thoughts) אֵ֫לֵ֥ינוּ (toward us),
אֵ֤ין׀ (none) עֲרֹ֬ךְ (can compare) אֵלֶ֗יךָ (to You);
אַגִּ֥ידָה (were I to declare) וַאֲדַבֵּ֑רָה (and speak)—
עָ֝צְמ֗וּ (they are vast) מִסַּפֵּֽר׃ (beyond numbering).
6 זֶ֤בַח (In sacrifice) וּמִנְחָ֨ה׀ (and offering) לֹֽא־ (not) חָפַ֗צְתָּ (did You take delight);
אָ֭זְנַיִם (ears) כָּרִ֣יתָ (You have opened) לִּ֑י (for me).
עוֹלָ֥ה (Burnt offering) וַ֝חֲטָאָ֗ה (and sin offering)
לֹ֣א (not) שָׁאָֽלְתָּ׃ (did You require).
7 אָ֣ז (Then) אָ֭מַרְתִּי (I said), הִנֵּה־ (Behold), בָ֑אתִי (I have come)—
בִּמְגִלַּת־ (in the roll) סֵ֝֗פֶר (of the book) כָּת֥וּב (it is written) עָלָֽי׃ (of me).
8 לַֽעֲשֽׂוֹת־ (To do) רְצוֹנְךָ֣ (Your will), אֱלֹהַ֣י (O my God), חָפָ֑צְתִּי (I have delighted),
וְ֝ת֥וֹרָתְךָ֗ (and Your law) בְּת֣וֹךְ (is in the midst) מֵעָֽי׃ (my heart).
9 בִּשַּׂ֤רְתִּי (I have proclaimed tidings) צֶ֨דֶק׀ (of righteousness) בְּקָ֘הָ֤ל (assembly) רָ֗ב (in the great);
הִנֵּ֣ה (behold), שְׂ֭פָתַי (my lips) לֹ֣א (not) אֶכְלָ֑א (I do restrain),
יְ֝הוָ֗ה (O YHWH), אַתָּ֥ה (You) יָדָֽעְתָּ׃ (have known).
10 צִדְקָתְךָ֬ (Your righteousness) לֹא־ (not) כִסִּ֨יתִי׀ (I have hidden) בְּת֬וֹךְ (in the midst) לִבִּ֗י (of my heart);
אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ (Your faithfulness) וּתְשׁוּעָתְךָ֣ (and Your salvation) אָמָ֑רְתִּי (I have declared);
לֹא־ (not) כִחַ֥דְתִּי (have I concealed) חַסְדְּךָ֥ (Your loving devotion) וַ֝אֲמִתְּךָ֗ (and Your truth)
לְקָהָ֥ל (from the assembly) רָֽב׃ (great).
11 אַתָּ֤ה (You), יְהוָ֗ה (O YHWH), לֹא־ (not) תִכְלָ֣א (do You withhold) רַחֲמֶ֣יךָ (Your mercies) מִמֶּ֑נִּי (from me);
חַסְדְּךָ֥ (Your loving devotion) וַ֝אֲמִתְּךָ֗ (and Your truth) תָּמִ֥יד (continually) יִצְּרֽוּנִי׃ (guard me).
12 כִּ֤י (For) אָפְפ֥וּ־ (have surrounded) עָלַ֨י׀ (against me) רָע֡וֹת (evils)
עַד־ (until) אֵ֬ין (there is no) מִסְפָּ֗ר (numbering them);
הִשִּׂיג֣וּנִי (have overtaken me) עֲ֭וֺנֹתַי (my iniquities), וְלֹא־ (and not) יָכֹ֣לְתִּי (am I able) לִרְא֑וֹת (to see).
עָצְמ֥וּ (They are vast) מִשַּֽׂעֲר֥וֹת (beyond the hairs) רֹ֝אשִׁ֗י (of my head),
וְלִבִּ֥י (and my heart) עֲזָבָֽנִי׃ (has left me).
13 רְצֵ֣ה (Take pleasure), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH), לְהַצִּילֵ֑נִי (to deliver me);
יְ֝הוָ֗ה (O YHWH), לְעֶזְרָ֥תִי (to help me) חֽוּשָׁה׃ (may You hurry).
14 יֵ֘בֹ֤שׁוּ (Let them be put to shame) וְיַחְפְּר֨וּ׀ (and confounded) יַחַד֮ (together),
מְבַקְשֵׁ֥י (those seeking) נַפְשִׁ֗י (my soul) לִסְפּ֫וֹתָ֥הּ (to snatch it away);
יִסֹּ֣גוּ (let them be driven) אָ֭חוֹר (back)
וְיִכָּלְמ֑וּ (and humiliated), חֲ֝פֵצֵ֗י (those delighting in) רָעָתִֽי׃ (my harm).
15 יָ֭שֹׁמּוּ (Let them be desolate) עַל־ (for) עֵ֣קֶב (a reward) בָּשְׁתָּ֑ם (of their shame)
הָאֹמְרִ֥ים (those saying) לִ֝֗י (to me), הֶ֘אָ֥ח׀ (Aha), הֶאָֽח׃ (aha)!
16 יָ֘שִׂ֤ישׂוּ (May they rejoice) וְיִשְׂמְח֨וּ׀ (and be glad)
בְּךָ֗ (in You) כָּֽל־ (all) מְבַ֫קְשֶׁ֥יךָ (those seeking You);
יֹאמְר֣וּ (let them say) תָ֭מִיד (continually), יִגְדַּ֣ל (be magnified), יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH)!
אֹֽ֝הֲבֵ֗י (Those loving) תְּשׁוּעָתֶֽךָ׃ (Your salvation).
17 וַאֲנִ֤י׀ (And I am) עָנִ֣י (poor) וְאֶבְיוֹן֮ (and needy);
אֲדֹנָ֪י (the Lord) יַחֲשָׁ֫ב (may think) לִ֥י (of me).
עֶזְרָתִ֣י (My help) וּמְפַלְטִ֣י (and my deliverer) אַ֑תָּה (You are)!
אֱ֝לֹהַ֗י (O my God), אַל־ (do not) תְּאַחַֽר׃ (delay),
