Psalm 45

My Heart Is Stirred by a Noble Theme
(1 Kings 3:1–15; 2 Chronicles 1:1–13; Psalm 72:1–20)

לַמְנַצֵּ֣חַ (For the one directing). עַל־ (According to) שֹׁ֭שַׁנִּים (The Lilies). לִבְנֵי־ (Of the sons) קֹ֑רַח (of Korah) מַ֝שְׂכִּ֗יל (a Maskil). שִׁ֣יר (A song) יְדִידֹֽת׃ (of love).

רָ֘חַ֤שׁ (Is stirred) 1לִבִּ֨י׀ (my heart) דָּ֘בָ֤ר (by a word) ט֗וֹב (good);

אֹמֵ֣ר (am telling) אָ֭נִי (I) מַעֲשַׂ֣י (my works) לְמֶ֑לֶךְ (O king);

לְ֝שׁוֹנִ֗י (my tongue is) עֵ֤ט׀ (the pen) סוֹפֵ֬ר (of a scribe) מָהִֽיר׃ (swift).

2  יָפְיָפִ֡יתָ (You are beautiful) מִבְּנֵ֬י (above the sons) אָדָ֗ם (of man);

ה֣וּצַק (is poured out) חֵ֭ן (favor) בְּשְׂפְתוֹתֶ֑יךָ (from your lips);

עַל־ (upon) כֵּ֤ן (thus) בֵּֽרַכְךָ֖ (has blessed you) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (God) לְעוֹלָֽם׃ (forever).

3  חֲגֽוֹר־ (Gird) חַרְבְּךָ֣ (Your sword) עַל־ (upon) יָרֵ֣ךְ (the thigh), גִּבּ֑וֹר (O mighty one),

ה֝וֹדְךָ֗ (with Your splendor) וַהֲדָרֶֽךָ׃ (and Your majesty).

4  וַהֲדָ֬רְךָ֨׀ (And in your splendor) צְלַ֬ח (prosper)!

רְכַ֗ב (Ride forth) עַֽל־ (upon) דְּבַר־ (a word) אֱ֭מֶת (of truth) וְעַנְוָה־ (and gentleness) צֶ֑דֶק (and justice);

וְתוֹרְךָ֖ (and will teach you) נוֹרָא֣וֹת (fearful things) יְמִינֶֽךָ׃ (your right hand).

5  חִצֶּ֗יךָ (Your arrows are) שְׁנ֫וּנִ֥ים (sharp)— עַ֭מִּים (the peoples) תַּחְתֶּ֣יךָ (under you) יִפְּל֑וּ (fall)—

בְּ֝לֵ֗ב (in the heart) אוֹיְבֵ֥י (of the enemies) הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (of the king).

6  כִּסְאֲךָ֣ (Your throne), אֱ֭לֹהִים (O God), עוֹלָ֣ם (is forever) וָעֶ֑ד (and ever);

שֵׁ֥בֶט (a scepter) מִ֝ישֹׁ֗ר (of uprightness) שֵׁ֣בֶט (is the scepter) מַלְכוּתֶֽךָ׃ (of your kingdom).

7  אָהַ֣בְתָּ (You have loved) צֶּדֶק֮ (righteousness)

וַתִּשְׂנָ֫א (and hated) רֶ֥שַׁע (wickedness);

עַל־ (for) כֵּ֤ן׀ (thus) מְשָׁחֲךָ֡ (has anointed you) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (God),

אֱ֭לֹהֶיךָ (your God), שֶׁ֥מֶן (with the oil) שָׂשׂ֗וֹן (of joy) מֵֽחֲבֵרֶֽיךָ׃ (above your companions).

8  מֹר־ (With myrrh) וַאֲהָל֣וֹת (and aloes) קְ֭צִיעוֹת (and cassia), כָּל־ (are all) בִּגְדֹתֶ֑יךָ (your garments);

מִֽן־ (from) הֵ֥יכְלֵי (the palaces) שֵׁ֝֗ן (of ivory) מִנִּ֥י (the harps) שִׂמְּחֽוּךָ׃ (have made you glad).

9  בְּנ֣וֹת (Daughters) מְ֭לָכִים (of kings) בְּיִקְּרוֹתֶ֑יךָ (are among your precious ones);

נִצְּבָ֥ה (stands) שֵׁגַ֥ל (the queen) לִֽ֝ימִינְךָ֗ (at your right hand),

בְּכֶ֣תֶם (in gold) אוֹפִֽיר׃ (of Ophir).

10  שִׁמְעִי־ (Hear), בַ֣ת (O daughter), וּ֭רְאִי (and see), וְהַטִּ֣י (and incline) אָזְנֵ֑ךְ (your ear),

וְשִׁכְחִ֥י (and forget) עַ֝מֵּ֗ךְ (your people) וּבֵ֥ית (and the house) אָבִֽיךְ׃ (of your father).

11  וְיִתְאָ֣ו (And for himself desires) הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (the king) יָפְיֵ֑ךְ (your beauty),

כִּי־ (because) ה֥וּא (he is) אֲ֝דֹנַ֗יִךְ (your lord). וְהִשְׁתַּֽחֲוִי־ (And bow) לֽוֹ׃ (to him)—

12  וּבַֽת־ (and the daughter) צֹ֨ר׀ (of Tyre) בְּ֭מִנְחָה (with a gift),

פָּנַ֥יִךְ (your face) יְחַלּ֗וּ (will seek) עֲשִׁ֣ירֵי (the rich) עָֽם׃ (among the people).

13  כָּל־ (All) כְּבוּדָּ֣ה (glorious is) בַת־ (the daughter) מֶ֣לֶךְ (of the king) פְּנִ֑ימָה (inside);

מִֽמִּשְׁבְּצ֖וֹת (with weavings) זָהָ֣ב (of gold) לְבוּשָֽׁהּ׃ (her clothing is).

14  לִרְקָמוֹת֮ (In various colors) תּוּבַ֪ל (she is brought) לַ֫מֶּ֥לֶךְ (to the king);

בְּתוּל֣וֹת (the virgins) אַ֭חֲרֶיהָ (following her)— רֵעוֹתֶ֑יהָ (companions of hers) מ֖וּבָא֣וֹת (shall be brought) לָֽךְ׃ (to you).

15  תּ֭וּבַלְנָה (They are brought along) בִּשְׂמָחֹ֣ת (with joy) וָגִ֑יל (and rejoicing);

תְּ֝בֹאֶ֗ינָה (they shall come) בְּהֵ֣יכַל (into the palace) מֶֽלֶךְ׃ (of the king).

16  תַּ֣חַת (In place) אֲ֭בֹתֶיךָ (of your fathers) יִהְי֣וּ (shall be) בָנֶ֑יךָ (your sons),

תְּשִׁיתֵ֥מוֹ (whom you shall make) לְ֝שָׂרִ֗ים (to be princes) בְּכָל־ (in all) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).

17  אַזְכִּ֣ירָה (I will cause to be remembered) שִׁ֭מְךָ (your name) בְּכָל־ (in every) דֹּ֣ר (generation) וָדֹ֑ר (and generation);

עַל־ (upon) כֵּ֥ן (thus) עַמִּ֥ים (the people) יְ֝הוֹדֻ֗ךָ (will praise you) לְעֹלָ֥ם (forever) וָעֶֽד׃ (and ever).
