1 This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced upon the Israelites before his death. This is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the people of Israel before his death. And this <i>is</i> the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. Now this is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death. This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death.
2 He said: “The LORD came from Sinai and dawned upon us from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran and came with myriads of holy ones, with flaming fire at His right hand. He said, “The LORD came from Sinai and dawned from Seir upon us; he shone forth from Mount Paran; he came from the ten thousands of holy ones, with flaming fire at his right hand. And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand <i>went</i> a fiery law for them. He said, “The LORD came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He shone from Mount Paran, And He came from the midst of myriads of holy ones; At His right hand there was flashing lightning for them. He said: “The LORD came from Sinai and dawned over them from Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran. He came with myriads of holy ones from the south, from his mountain slopes.
3 Surely You love the people; all the holy ones are in Your hand, and they sit down at Your feet; each receives Your words— Yes, he loved his people, all his holy ones were in his hand; so they followed in your steps, receiving direction from you, Yea, he loved the people; all his saints <i>are</i> in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; <i>every one</i> shall receive of thy words. “Indeed, He loves the people; All Your holy ones are in Your hand, And they followed in Your steps; <i>Everyone</i> takes of Your words. Surely it is you who love the people; all the holy ones are in your hand. At your feet they all bow down, and from you receive instruction,
4 the law that Moses gave us, the possession of the assembly of Jacob. when Moses commanded us a law, as a possession for the assembly of Jacob. Moses commanded us a law, <i>even</i> the inheritance of the congregation of Jacob. “Moses issued to us <i>the</i> Law, A possession for the assembly of Jacob. the law that Moses gave us, the possession of the assembly of Jacob.
5 So the LORD became King in Jeshurun when the leaders of the people gathered, when the tribes of Israel came together. Thus the LORD became king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people were gathered, all the tribes of Israel together. And he was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people <i>and</i> the tribes of Israel were gathered together. “And He was king in Jeshurun, When the heads of the people gathered, The tribes of Israel together. He was king over Jeshurun when the leaders of the people assembled, along with the tribes of Israel.
6 Let Reuben live and not die, nor his men be few. “Let Reuben live, and not die, but let his men be few.” Let Reuben live, and not die; and let <i>not</i> his men be few. “May Reuben live and not die, Nor may his people be few.” “Let Reuben live and not die, nor his people be few.”
7 And concerning Judah he said: “O LORD, hear the cry of Judah and bring him to his people. With his own hands he defends his cause, but may You be a help against his foes.” And this he said of Judah: “Hear, O LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him in to his people. With your hands contend for him, and be a help against his adversaries.” And this <i>is the blessing</i> of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help <i>to him</i> from his enemies. And this <i>was</i> regarding Judah; so he said: “Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, And bring him to his people. With his hands he contended for them, And may You be a help against his adversaries.” And this he said about Judah: “Hear, LORD, the cry of Judah; bring him to his people. With his own hands he defends his cause. Oh, be his help against his foes!”
8 Concerning Levi he said: “Give Your Thummim to Levi and Your Urim to Your godly one, whom You tested at Massah and contested at the waters of Meribah. And of Levi he said, “Give to Levi your Thummim, and your Urim to your godly one, whom you tested at Massah, with whom you quarreled at the waters of Meribah; And of Levi he said, <i>Let</i> thy Thummim and thy Urim <i>be</i> with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah, <i>and with</i> whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah; Of Levi he said, “<i>Let</i> Your Thummim and Your Urim <i>belong</i> to Your godly man, Whom You tested at Massah, With whom You contended at the waters of Meribah; About Levi he said: “Your Thummim and Urim belong to your faithful servant. You tested him at Massah; you contended with him at the waters of Meribah.
9 He said of his father and mother, ‘I do not consider them.’ He disregarded his brothers and did not know his own sons, for he kept Your word and maintained Your covenant. who said of his father and mother, ‘I regard them not’; he disowned his brothers and ignored his children. For they observed your word and kept your covenant. Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant. Who said of his father and his mother, ‘I did not consider them’; And he did not acknowledge his brothers, Nor did he regard his own sons, For they kept Your word, And complied with Your covenant. He said of his father and mother, ‘I have no regard for them.’ He did not recognize his brothers or acknowledge his own children, but he watched over your word and guarded your covenant.
10 He will teach Your ordinances to Jacob and Your law to Israel; he will set incense before You and whole burnt offerings on Your altar. They shall teach Jacob your rules and Israel your law; they shall put incense before you and whole burnt offerings on your altar. They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law: they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine altar. “They will teach Your ordinances to Jacob, And Your Law to Israel. They shall put incense before You, And whole burnt offerings on Your altar. He teaches your precepts to Jacob and your law to Israel. He offers incense before you and whole burnt offerings on your altar.
11 Bless his substance, O LORD, and accept the work of his hands. Smash the loins of those who rise against him, and of his foes so they can rise no more.” Bless, O LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands; crush the loins of his adversaries, of those who hate him, that they rise not again.” Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands: smite through the loins of them that rise against him, and of them that hate him, that they rise not again. “LORD, bless his strength, And accept the work of his hands; Smash the hips of those who rise up against him, And those who hate him, so that they do not rise <i>again.</i>” Bless all his skills, LORD, and be pleased with the work of his hands. Strike down those who rise against him, his foes till they rise no more.”
12 Concerning Benjamin he said: “May the beloved of the LORD rest secure in Him; God shields him all day long, and upon His shoulders he rests.” Of Benjamin he said, “The beloved of the LORD dwells in safety. The High God surrounds him all day long, and dwells between his shoulders.” <i>And</i> of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; <i>and the LORD</i> shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders. Of Benjamin he said, “May the beloved of the LORD live in security beside Him Who shields him all the day <i>long,</i> And he lives between His shoulders.” About Benjamin he said: “Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders.”
13 Concerning Joseph he said: “May his land be blessed by the LORD with the precious dew from heaven above and the deep waters that lie beneath, And of Joseph he said, “Blessed by the LORD be his land, with the choicest gifts of heaven above, and of the deep that crouches beneath, And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD <i>be</i> his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath, Of Joseph he said, “Blessed of the LORD <i>be</i> his land, With the choice things of heaven, with the dew, And from the deep <i>waters</i> lying beneath, About Joseph he said: “May the LORD bless his land with the precious dew from heaven above and with the deep waters that lie below;
14 with the bountiful harvest from the sun and the abundant yield of the seasons, with the choicest fruits of the sun and the rich yield of the months, And for the precious fruits <i>brought forth</i> by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon, And with the choice yield of the sun, And the choice produce of the months; with the best the sun brings forth and the finest the moon can yield;
15 with the best of the ancient mountains and the bounty of the everlasting hills, with the finest produce of the ancient mountains and the abundance of the everlasting hills, And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills, And with the best things of the ancient mountains, With the choice things of the everlasting hills, with the choicest gifts of the ancient mountains and the fruitfulness of the everlasting hills;
16 with the choice gifts of the land and everything in it, and with the favor of Him who dwelt in the burning bush. May these rest on the head of Joseph and crown the brow of the prince of his brothers. with the best gifts of the earth and its fullness and the favor of him who dwells in the bush. May these rest on the head of Joseph, on the pate of him who is prince among his brothers. And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof, and <i>for</i> the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: let <i>the blessing</i> come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him <i>that was</i> separated from his brethren. And with the choice things of the earth and its fullness, And the favor of Him who dwelt in the bush. Let it come to the head of Joseph, And to the top of the head of the <i>one who was</i> prince among his brothers. with the best gifts of the earth and its fullness and the favor of him who dwelt in the burning bush. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.
17 His majesty is like a firstborn bull, and his horns are like those of a wild ox. With them he will gore the nations, even to the ends of the earth. Such are the myriads of Ephraim, and such are the thousands of Manasseh.” A firstborn bull—he has majesty, and his horns are the horns of a wild ox; with them he shall gore the peoples, all of them, to the ends of the earth; they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.” His glory <i>is like</i> the firstling of his bullock, and his horns <i>are like</i> the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they <i>are</i> the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they <i>are</i> the thousands of Manasseh. “<i>As</i> the firstborn of his ox, majesty is his, And his horns are the horns of the wild ox; With them he will gore the peoples All at once, <i>to</i> the ends of the earth. 20 Concerning Gad he said: “Blessed is he who enlarges the domain of Gad! He lies down like a lion and tears off an arm or a head. And of Gad he said, “Blessed be he who enlarges Gad! Gad crouches like a lion; he tears off arm and scalp. And of Gad he said, Blessed <i>be</i> he that enlargeth Gad: he dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm with the crown of the head. Of Gad he said, “Blessed is the one who enlarges Gad; He lies down as a lion, And tears the arm, also the crown of the head. About Gad he said: “Blessed is he who enlarges Gad’s domain! Gad lives there like a lion, tearing at arm or head.
21 He chose the best land for himself, because a ruler’s portion was reserved for him there. He came with the leaders of the people; he administered the LORD’s justice and His ordinances for Israel.” He chose the best of the land for himself, for there a commander’s portion was reserved; and he came with the heads of the people, with Israel he executed the justice of the LORD, and his judgments for Israel.” And he provided the first part for himself, because there, <i>in</i> a portion of the lawgiver, <i>was he</i> seated; and he came with the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the LORD, and his judgments with Israel. “Then he selected the choicest <i>part</i> for himself, For there the ruler’s portion was reserved; And he came <i>with</i> the leaders of the people; He executed the justice of the LORD, And His ordinances with Israel.” He chose the best land for himself; the leader’s portion was kept for him. When the heads of the people assembled, he carried out the LORD’s righteous will, and his judgments concerning Israel.”
22 Concerning Dan he said: “Dan is a lion’s cub, leaping out of Bashan.” And of Dan he said, “Dan is a lion’s cub that leaps from Bashan.” And of Dan he said, Dan <i>is</i> a lion's whelp: he shall leap from Bashan. Of Dan he said, “Dan is a lion’s cub; He leaps out from Bashan.” About Dan he said: “Dan is a lion’s cub, springing out of Bashan.”
23 Concerning Naphtali he said: “Naphtali is abounding with favor, full of the blessing of the LORD; he shall take possession of the sea and the south.” And of Naphtali he said, “O Naphtali, sated with favor, and full of the blessing of the LORD, possess the lake and the south.” And of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favour, and full with the blessing of the LORD: possess thou the west and the south. Of Naphtali he said, “Naphtali, satisfied with favor, And full of the blessing of the LORD, Take possession of the sea and the south.” About Naphtali he said: “Naphtali is abounding with the favor of the LORD and is full of his blessing; he will inherit southward to the lake.”
24 And concerning Asher he said: “May Asher be the most blessed of sons; may he be the most favored among his brothers and dip his foot in oil. And of Asher he said, “Most blessed of sons be Asher; let him be the favorite of his brothers, and let him dip his foot in oil. And of Asher he said, <i>Let</i> Asher <i>be</i> blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil. Of Asher he said, “More blessed than sons is Asher; May he be favored by his brothers, And may he dip his foot in olive oil. About Asher he said: “Most blessed of sons is Asher; let him be favored by his brothers, and let him bathe his feet in oil.
25 May the bolts of your gate be iron and bronze, and may your strength match your days.” Your bars shall be iron and bronze, and as your days, so shall your strength be. Thy shoes <i>shall be</i> iron and brass; and as thy days, <i>so shall</i> thy strength <i>be</i>. “Your bars will be iron and bronze, And as your days, <i>so will</i> your strength <i>be.</i> The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze, and your strength will equal your days.
26 “There is none like the God of Jeshurun, who rides the heavens to your aid, and the clouds in His majesty. “There is none like God, O Jeshurun, who rides through the heavens to your help, through the skies in his majesty. <i>There is</i> none like unto the God of Jeshurun, <i>who</i> rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky. “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, Who rides the heavens to your help, And the clouds in His majesty. “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty.
27 The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He drives out the enemy before you, giving the command, ‘Destroy him!’ The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy before you and said, ‘Destroy.’ The eternal God <i>is thy</i> refuge, and underneath <i>are</i> the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy <i>them</i>. “The eternal God is a hiding place, And underneath are the everlasting arms; And He drove out the enemy from you, And said, ‘Destroy!’ The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you, saying, ‘Destroy them!’
28 So Israel dwells securely; the fountain of Jacob lives untroubled in a land of grain and new wine, where even the heavens drip with dew. So Israel lived in safety, Jacob lived alone, in a land of grain and wine, whose heavens drop down dew. Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob <i>shall be</i> upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew. “So Israel lives in security, The fountain of Jacob secluded, In a land of grain and new wine; His heavens also drip down dew. So Israel will live in safety; Jacob will dwell secure in a land of grain and new wine, where the heavens drop dew.
29 Blessed are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD? He is the shield that protects you, the sword in which you boast. Your enemies will cower before you, and you shall trample their high places.” Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help, and the sword of your triumph! Your enemies shall come fawning to you, and you shall tread upon their backs.” Happy <i>art</i> thou, O Israel: who <i>is</i> like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who <i>is</i> the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places. “Blessed are you, Israel; Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD, The shield of your help, And He who is the sword of your majesty! So your enemies will cringe before you, And you will trample on their high places.” Blessed are you, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD? He is your shield and helper and your glorious sword. Your enemies will cower before you, and you will tread on their heights.”
