The Overthrow of Nineveh

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
An attacker advances against you, Nineveh. Guard the fortress, watch the road, brace yourselves, marshal all your strength!1The scatterer has come up against you. Man the ramparts; watch the road; dress for battle; collect all your strength.1The one who scatters has come up against you. Man the fortress, watch the road; Strengthen your back, summon all your strength.1He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.1One who scatters is coming up against you. Man the fortifications! Watch the road! Brace yourself! Summon all your strength!
The LORD will restore the splendor of Jacob like the splendor of Israel, though destroyers have laid them waste and have ruined their vines.2For the LORD is restoring the majesty of Jacob as the majesty of Israel, for plunderers have plundered them and ruined their branches.2For the LORD will restore the splendor of Jacob Like the splendor of Israel, Even though devastators have devastated them And destroyed their vine branches.2For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.2For the LORD will restore the majesty of Jacob, yes, the majesty of Israel, though ravagers have ravaged them and ruined their vine branches.
The shields of the soldiers are red; the warriors are clad in scarlet. The metal on the chariots flashes on the day they are made ready; the spears of juniper are brandished.3The shield of his mighty men is red; his soldiers are clothed in scarlet. The chariots come with flashing metal on the day he musters them; the cypress spears are brandished.3The shields of his mighty men are colored red, The warriors are dressed in scarlet, The chariots are enveloped in flashing steel When he is prepared to march, And the cypress spears are brandished.3The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.3The shields of his warriors are dyed red; the valiant men are dressed in scarlet. The fittings of the chariot flash like fire on the day of its battle preparations, and the spears are brandished.
The chariots storm through the streets, rushing back and forth through the squares. They look like flaming torches; they dart about like lightning.4The chariots race madly through the streets; they rush to and fro through the squares; they gleam like torches; they dart like lightning.4The chariots race madly in the streets, They rush wildly in the squares, Their appearance is like torches, They dash to and fro like lightning flashes.4The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.4The chariots dash madly through the streets; they rush around in the plazas. They look like torches; they dart back and forth like lightning.

Nineveh summons her picked troops, yet they stumble on their way. They dash to the city wall; the protective shield is put in place.5He remembers his officers; they stumble as they go, they hasten to the wall; the siege tower is set up.5He remembers his nobles; They stumble in their march, They hurry to her wall, And the mantelet is set up.5He shall recount his worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.5He gives orders to his officers; they stumble as they advance. They race to its wall; the protective shield is set in place.
The river gates are thrown open and the palace collapses.6The river gates are opened; the palace melts away;6The gates of the rivers are opened And the palace is dissolved.6The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.6The river gates are opened, and the palace erodes away.
It is decreed that Nineveh be exiled and carried away. Her female slaves moan like doves and beat on their breasts.7its mistress is stripped; she is carried off, her slave girls lamenting, moaning like doves and beating their breasts.7It is fixed: She is stripped, she is carried away, And her handmaids are moaning like the sound of doves, Beating on their breasts.7And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts.7Beauty is stripped, she is carried away; her ladies-in-waiting moan like the sound of doves, and beat their breasts.
Nineveh is like a pool whose water is draining away. "Stop! Stop!" they cry, but no one turns back.8Nineveh is like a pool whose waters run away. “Halt! Halt!” they cry, but none turns back.8Though Nineveh was like a pool of water throughout her days, Now they are fleeing; "Stop, stop," But no one turns back.8But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.8Nineveh has been like a pool of water from her first days, but they are fleeing." Stop! Stop!" they cry, but no one turns back."
Plunder the silver! Plunder the gold! The supply is endless, the wealth from all its treasures!9Plunder the silver, plunder the gold! There is no end of the treasure or of the wealth of all precious things.9Plunder the silver! Plunder the gold! For there is no limit to the treasure-- Wealth from every kind of desirable object.9Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.9Plunder the silver! Plunder the gold!" There is no end to the treasure, an abundance of every precious thing.

She is pillaged, plundered, stripped! Hearts melt, knees give way, bodies tremble, every face grows pale.10Desolate! Desolation and ruin! Hearts melt and knees tremble; anguish is in all loins; all faces grow pale!10She is emptied! Yes, she is desolate and waste! Hearts are melting and knees knocking! Also anguish is in the whole body And all their faces are grown pale!10She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.10Desolation, decimation, devastation! Hearts melt, knees tremble, loins shake, every face grows pale!
Where now is the lions' den, the place where they fed their young, where the lion and lioness went, and the cubs, with nothing to fear?11Where is the lions’ den, the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and lioness went, where his cubs were, with none to disturb?11Where is the den of the lions And the feeding place of the young lions, Where the lion, lioness and lion's cub prowled, With nothing to disturb them?11Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion's whelp, and none made them afraid?11Where is the lions' lair, or the feeding ground of the young lions, where the lion and lioness prowled, and the lion's cub, with nothing to frighten them away?
The lion killed enough for his cubs and strangled the prey for his mate, filling his lairs with the kill and his dens with the prey.12The lion tore enough for his cubs and strangled prey for his lionesses; he filled his caves with prey and his dens with torn flesh.12The lion tore enough for his cubs, Killed enough for his lionesses, And filled his lairs with prey And his dens with torn flesh.12The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.12The lion mauled whatever its cubs needed and strangled prey for its lionesses. It filled up its dens with the kill, and its lairs with mauled prey.
"I am against you," declares the LORD Almighty. "I will burn up your chariots in smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions. I will leave you no prey on the earth. The voices of your messengers will no longer be heard."13Behold, I am against you, declares the LORD of hosts, and I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions. I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall no longer be heard.13"Behold, I am against you," declares the LORD of hosts. "I will burn up her chariots in smoke, a sword will devour your young lions; I will cut off your prey from the land, and no longer will the voice of your messengers be heard."13Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.13Beware, I am against you. This is the declaration of the LORD of Hosts. I will make your chariots go up in smoke and the sword will devour your young lions. I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the sound of your messengers will never be heard again.
