Berean Study Bible Zion’s Salvation and New NameThe prophet declares his unrelenting concern for Zion, Jerusalem, the city God chose as the center of Israel’s worship and future restoration. Psa 102:13-16 You will rise up and have compassion on Zion,… and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep still, He will continue to proclaim God’s purpose until Jerusalem is openly vindicated before the nations. Psa 122:6-9 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you… until her righteousness shines like a bright light, Jerusalem’s restored righteousness will be visible, marking the city as the place where God has fulfilled His promises to His covenant people. Psa 37:6 He will bring forth your righteousness like the dawn,… her salvation like a blazing torch. God’s deliverance will be unmistakable, displaying His power to restore Israel and establish His glory in Zion. Psa 27:1 Of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation—… Nations will see your righteousness, Israel’s restoration will be visible to the surrounding world. Nations that once witnessed Jerusalem’s ruin will see the Lord vindicate His people and establish them in righteousness. Isa 61:11 For as the earth brings forth its growth, … and all kings your glory. Earthly rulers will recognize the honor and splendor the Lord gives Zion. Her renewed condition will testify that the God of Israel has acted on her behalf. Isa 60:3 Nations will come to your light, and kings… You will be called by a new name Zion’s new name will mark her changed standing after judgment and restoration. No longer identified by abandonment or desolation, she will bear a name reflecting the Lord’s favor and covenant faithfulness. Rev 2:17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says… that the mouth of the LORD will bestow. The Lord Himself will declare this new identity, giving it enduring authority. His word will establish Zion’s restored place among the nations. Isa 1:20 But if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured… You will be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, Zion’s restoration will display the Lord’s faithfulness before the nations. Like a crown held by a king, Jerusalem will be honored as His treasured possession, preserved by His power and made beautiful through His salvation. Isa 28:5 On that day the LORD of Hosts will be a crown of glory,… a royal diadem in the palm of your God. The city once desolate and reproached will be treated as a royal jewel in God’s care. Her renewed dignity will testify that the Lord has not abandoned His covenant people and will fulfill His promises to establish them in peace and righteousness. Isa 49:16 Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;… No longer will you be called Forsaken, Israel’s history included exile, defeat, and the loss of covenant blessings because of persistent rebellion. God promises that this condition of judgment will not define His restored people. Isa 54:6 For the LORD has called you back, like a wife deserted… nor your land named Desolate; The land, devastated by invasion and emptied of many inhabitants, would no longer bear the marks of abandonment. God would restore its people, security, and fruitfulness. Ezk 36:34-35 The desolate land will be cultivated instead of… but you will be called Hephzibah, Israel would be known as Hephzibah, meaning “My delight is in her.” The new name reflects His restored favor and His faithful purpose for Jerusalem and the nation. Psa 149:4 For the LORD takes pleasure in His people;… and your land Beulah; The land, called Beulah (“married”), would be joined to God as a bride to her husband, expressing permanence, protection, and covenant blessing rather than desolation and loss. Isa 54:5 For your husband is your Maker—the LORD of Hosts… for the LORD will take delight in you, Israel’s restoration rests on the Lord’s grace and His commitment to His promises. He will again show favor to His people. Zep 3:17 The LORD your God is among you; He is mighty to save.… and your land will be His bride. God’s relationship with the restored land and people will be marked by covenant faithfulness, joy, and enduring possession. Hos 2:16-20 In that day,” declares the LORD, “you will call Me… For as a young man marries a young woman, Marriage portrays covenant faithfulness, intimacy, and joy. After Jerusalem’s desolation and exile, the Lord promises a relationship marked not by abandonment but by renewed devotion and life. Pro 5:18-19 May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice… so your sons will marry you; Jerusalem, pictured as a woman once forsaken, will again be inhabited by her people. Her sons will return, rebuild, and remain in the land God gave Israel, reversing the losses brought by judgment and exile. Isa 49:17-18 Your builders hasten back; your destroyers and wreckers… and as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, A bridegroom’s delight reflects the public celebration and deep affection surrounding a wedding. The restoration of Zion will be a cause of genuine joy, not merely political recovery. Jhn 3:29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom… so your God will rejoice over you. The Lord Himself will delight in His restored people and city. His covenant purposes for Jerusalem and Israel will stand, bringing them from desolation to security, fruitfulness, and joy. Zep 3:17 The LORD your God is among you; He is mighty to save.… On your walls, O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city chosen by God and central to Israel’s worship, is pictured as secure under His care. Its walls, once essential to defense, also represent the protection and restoration God promises for Zion. Isa 49:16 Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;… I have posted watchmen; God Himself appoints vigilant servants to guard the city. These watchmen faithfully proclaim His purposes, warn of danger, and continue in prayer for Jerusalem’s restoration. Ezk 33:7 As for you, O son of man, I have made you a watchman… they will never be silent day or night. Their ministry is continual, reflecting the certainty and urgency of God’s promises. Jerusalem’s future is not left unattended; God maintains constant witness and intercession over His city. Rev 4:8 And each of the four living creatures had six wings… You who call on the LORD Those who seek the Lord are included in this watchful service. They are to bring Jerusalem and God’s covenant promises before Him. Rom 10:13 Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord… shall take no rest for yourselves, They are called to persevere in prayer and proclamation until the Lord establishes Jerusalem as a praise in the earth. 1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing. nor give Him any rest God calls His people to persistent intercession for Jerusalem, appealing to Him until He fulfills His stated purposes. The urgency reflects the certainty that His promises will be accomplished in His time. Luk 18:1-8 Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray… until He establishes Jerusalem Jerusalem, chosen as the place of God’s dwelling and the historic center of Israel’s worship, will be restored according to God’s covenant purposes. Its future establishment includes peace, righteousness, and the visible rule of the Messiah. Psa 147:2 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the exiles… and makes her the praise of the earth. The restored city will display God’s faithfulness before the nations. Jerusalem will become a source of honor rather than reproach, reflecting the justice, peace, and glory of the Messiah’s reign. Jer 33:9 So this city will bring Me renown, joy, praise… The LORD has sworn by His right hand and by His mighty arm: The Lord guarantees this promise by His own sovereign power and authority. Having no higher authority by which to swear, He binds Himself to fulfill what He has declared. Psa 89:13 Mighty is Your arm; strong is Your hand.… “Never again will I give your grain to your enemies for food, Israel had often lost its harvests to invading armies as judgment for covenant unfaithfulness. The Lord now promises protection and restoration, so that the produce of the land will no longer sustain those who oppress His people. Lev 26:16 then this is what I will do to you: I will bring upon you… nor will foreigners drink the new wine for which you have toiled. The people will enjoy the fruit of their labor in safety rather than seeing it taken by foreign powers. The promise anticipates a restored Jerusalem marked by security, stability, and the Lord’s faithful provision. Deu 28:39 You will plant and cultivate vineyards,… For those who harvest grain will eat it Jerusalem’s restoration includes security from the losses that had accompanied invasion and judgment. The people will enjoy the produce of their own fields rather than seeing it taken by foreign oppressors. Psa 128:2 For when you eat the fruit of your labor,… and praise the LORD, Their prosperity will lead them to recognize the LORD as the giver of the land’s abundance. Harvest celebrations will again be joined with public worship and thanksgiving. Psa 22:26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD… and those who gather grapes will drink the wine Vineyards, often ruined or seized during war, will yield wine for the people who cultivated them. The image portrays peace, stability, and the return of ordinary joys under God’s blessing. Deu 11:14 then I will provide rain for your land in season,… in My holy courts.” The enjoyment of these blessings is connected with worship at the temple in Jerusalem. The restored people will bring their gratitude before the LORD, whose presence remains at the center of their national life. Psa 100:4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise… Go out, go out through the gates; The exiles are summoned to leave Babylon without delay as God brings them home. Their departure marks liberation from captivity and the beginning of restoration. Isa 52:11 Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean thing;… prepare the way for the people! A clear route is to be made for the returning Israelites. Those remaining in the land are to welcome them and remove practical hindrances from their return. Isa 40:3 A voice of one calling: “Prepare the way for the LORD… Build it up, build up the highway; The road imagery portrays a prepared and secure passage for God’s people. Their return is not a retreat but a public demonstration of God’s faithfulness to His covenant. Isa 35:8 And there will be a highway called the Way of Holiness.… clear away the stones; Obstacles along the way are to be removed so that no barrier delays the people God is restoring. The command also reflects the need to put away sin and rebellion that had contributed to exile. Isa 57:14 And it will be said, “Build it up, build it up,… raise a banner for the nations! Israel’s restoration is to be openly proclaimed before the surrounding peoples. God’s saving work in Zion points beyond Israel to His purpose of bringing people from every nation under His rule. Isa 11:12 He will raise a banner for the nations and gather… Behold, the LORD has proclaimed to the ends of the earth, God’s announcement extends beyond Jerusalem to every nation. Israel’s restoration would display His rule over the whole earth and reveal His saving purpose to the nations. Isa 48:20 Leave Babylon! Flee from the Chaldeans! Declare it… “Say to Daughter Zion: Jerusalem is addressed as the beloved people of God, awaiting the fulfillment of His covenant promises after judgment and exile. Zec 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph… See, your Savior comes! The promised deliverer is coming to Zion. The prophecy ultimately points to Christ, who came to save His people and will return in glory to complete His kingdom. Isa 35:4 Say to those with anxious hearts: “Be strong, do not fear!… Look, His reward is with Him, He comes bearing blessing for those who belong to Him, granting the full outcome of His salvation to His redeemed people. Rev 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon, and My reward is with Me,… and His recompense goes before Him.” His arrival also brings righteous judgment. God will repay evil and vindicate those who have remained faithful to Him. Isa 40:10 Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might,… And they will be called the Holy People, Israel will be publicly recognized as a people set apart for the LORD. Their holiness rests on God’s covenant faithfulness and His work of restoring them, not on their past faithfulness. Deu 7:6 For you are a people holy to the LORD your God.… the Redeemed of The LORD; The LORD will deliver His people from the consequences of judgment, exile, and oppression. Their restoration will show that He has claimed them as His own and has acted with power to save them. Psa 107:2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed… and you will be called Sought Out, Jerusalem, once neglected and desolate, will be the object of God’s care. He will gather His people back to their land and renew the city that had suffered because of their rebellion. Ezk 34:11-12 For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I Myself… A City Not Forsaken. Though Jerusalem was destroyed and abandoned during judgment, it will not remain so.
