The Divisions of the Gatekeepers

1  לְמַחְלְק֖וֹת (for the divisions) לְשֹׁעֲרִ֑ים (of the gatekeepers):

לַקָּרְחִ֕ים (Of the Korahites): מְשֶֽׁלֶמְיָ֥הוּ (Meshelemiah) בֶן־ (son) קֹרֵ֖א (of Kore), מִן־ (of) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) אָסָֽף׃ (of Asaph).

2  וְלִמְשֶֽׁלֶמְיָ֖הוּ (And of Meshelemiah) בָּנִ֑ים (the sons): זְכַרְיָ֤הוּ (ZEchariah) הַבְּכוֹר֙ (the firstborn), יְדִֽיעֲאֵ֣ל (Jediael) הַשֵּׁנִ֔י (the second), זְבַדְיָ֙הוּ֙ (Zebadiah) הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י (the third), יַתְנִיאֵ֖ל (Jathniel) הָרְבִיעִֽי׃ (the fourth), 3  עֵילָ֤ם (Elam) הַחֲמִישִׁי֙ (the fifth), יְהוֹחָנָ֣ן (Jehohanan) הַשִּׁשִּׁ֔י (the sixth), אֶלְיְהוֹעֵינַ֖י (Eliehoenai) הַשְּׁבִיעִֽי׃ (the seventh).

4  וּלְעֹבֵ֥ד (And to Obed-) אֱדֹ֖ם (edom) בָּנִ֑ים (the sons): שְׁמַֽעְיָ֤ה (Shemaiah) הַבְּכוֹר֙ (the firstborn), יְהוֹזָבָ֣ד (Jehozabad) הַשֵּׁנִ֔י (the second), יוֹאָ֤ח (Joah) הַשְּׁלִשִׁי֙ (the third), וְשָׂכָ֣ר (and Sacar) הָרְבִיעִ֔י (the fourth), וּנְתַנְאֵ֖ל (and Nethanel) הַחֲמִישִֽׁי׃ (the fifth), 5  עַמִּיאֵ֤ל (Ammiel) הַשִּׁשִּׁי֙ (the sixth), יִשָׂשכָ֣ר (Issachar) הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י (the seventh), פְּעֻלְּתַ֖י (Peulthai) הַשְּׁמִינִ֑י (the eighth). כִּ֥י (For) בֵרֲכ֖וֹ (blessed him) אֱלֹהִֽים׃פ (God).

6  וְלִֽשְׁמַֽעְיָ֤ה (And to Shemaiah) בְנוֹ֙ (his son) נוֹלַ֣ד (were born) בָּנִ֔ים (sons) הַמִּמְשָׁלִ֖ים (who governed) לְבֵ֣ית (throughout the house) אֲבִיהֶ֑ם (of their father), כִּֽי־ (because) גִבּ֥וֹרֵי (mighty ones) חַ֖יִל (of valor) הֵֽמָּה׃ (they were). 7  בְּנֵ֣י (The sons) שְׁמַֽעְיָ֗ה (of Shemaiah): עָ֠תְנִי (Othni), וּרְפָאֵ֨ל (and Rephael), וְעוֹבֵ֧ד (and Obed), אֶלְזָבָ֛ד (Elzabad) אֶחָ֖יו (his brothers) בְּנֵי־ (were sons) חָ֑יִל (of valor)), אֱלִיה֖וּ (Elihu), וּסְמַכְיָֽהוּ׃ (and Semachiah). 8  כָּל־ (All) אֵ֜לֶּה (these were) מִבְּנֵ֣י׀ (of the sons) עֹבֵ֣ד (of Obed-) אֱדֹ֗ם (edom) הֵ֤מָּה (they) וּבְנֵיהֶם֙ (and their sons) וַאֲחֵיהֶ֔ם (and their brothers)), אִֽישׁ־ (men) חַ֥יִל (of valor) בַּכֹּ֖חַ (with power) לַעֲבֹדָ֑ה (for work)— שִׁשִּׁ֥ים (sixty) וּשְׁנַ֖יִם (and two) לְעֹבֵ֥ד (of Obed-) אֱדֹֽם׃ (edom).

9  וְלִמְשֶֽׁלֶמְיָ֗הוּ (And to Meshelemiah) בָּנִ֧ים (were sons) וְאַחִ֛ים (and brothers), בְּנֵי־ (sons) חָ֖יִל (of valor)— שְׁמוֹנָ֥ה (eight) עָשָֽׂר׃ס (and ten).

10  וּלְחֹסָ֥ה (And to Hosah) מִן־ (of) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) מְרָרִ֖י (of Merari) בָּנִ֑ים (were sons): שִׁמְרִ֤י (Shimri) הָרֹאשׁ֙ (the first) כִּ֣י (although) לֹא־ (not) הָיָ֣ה (he was) בְכ֔וֹר (the firstborn), וַיְשִׂימֵ֥הוּ (and made him) אָבִ֖יהוּ (his father) לְרֹֽאשׁ׃ (the first)), 11  חִלְקִיָּ֤הוּ (Hilkiah) הַשֵּׁנִי֙ (the second), טְבַלְיָ֣הוּ (Tebaliah) הַשְּׁלִשִׁ֔י (the third), זְכַרְיָ֖הוּ (Zechariah) הָרְבִעִ֑י (the fourth)— כָּל־ (all) בָּנִ֧ים (the sons) וְאַחִ֛ים (and brothers) לְחֹסָ֖ה (of Hosah), שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה (three) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten).

12  לְ֠אֵלֶּה (Among these) מַחְלְק֨וֹת (were the divisions) הַשֹּֽׁעֲרִ֜ים (of the gatekeepers) לְרָאשֵׁ֧י (to the heads) הַגְּבָרִ֛ים (of the mighty ones), מִשְׁמָר֖וֹת (having duties) לְעֻמַּ֣ת (just like) אֲחֵיהֶ֑ם (their brothers), לְשָׁרֵ֖ת (to serve) בְּבֵ֥ית (in the house) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 13  וַיַּפִּ֨ילוּ (And they cast) גוֹרָל֜וֹת (lots), כַּקָּטֹ֧ן (the small) כַּגָּד֛וֹל (as well as the great), לְבֵ֥ית (according to the house) אֲבוֹתָ֖ם (of their fathers), לְשַׁ֥עַר (for gate) וָשָֽׁעַר׃פ (and gate).

14  וַיִּפֹּ֧ל (And fell) הַגּוֹרָ֛ל (the lot) מִזְרָ֖חָה (for the East) לְשֶֽׁלֶמְיָ֑הוּ (to Shelemiah).

וּזְכַרְיָ֨הוּ (And for Zechariah) בְנ֜וֹ (his son), יוֹעֵ֣ץ׀ (a counselor) בְּשֶׂ֗כֶל (wise), הִפִּ֙ילוּ֙ (they cast) גּֽוֹרָל֔וֹת (lots), וַיֵּצֵ֥א (and came out) גוֹרָל֖וֹ (his lot) צָפֽוֹנָה׃ס (for the North).

15  לְעֹבֵ֥ד (To Obed-) אֱדֹ֖ם (edom) נֶ֑גְבָּה (the South), וּלְבָנָ֖יו (and to his sons) בֵּ֥ית (the house) הָאֲסֻפִּֽים׃ (of the gatherings).

16  לְשֻׁפִּ֤ים (To Shuppim) וּלְחֹסָה֙ (and Hosah) לַֽמַּעֲרָ֔ב (for the West), עִ֚ם (with) שַׁ֣עַר (the Gate) שַׁלֶּ֔כֶת (Shallecheth) בַּֽמְסִלָּ֖ה (on the highway) הָעוֹלָ֑ה (ascending).

מִשְׁמָ֖ר (A guard was) לְעֻמַּ֥ת (alongside) מִשְׁמָֽר׃ (a guard). 17  לַמִּזְרָח֮ (To the east) הַלְוִיִּ֣ם (the Levites) שִׁשָּׁה֒ (were six), לַצָּפ֤וֹנָה (to the north) לַיּוֹם֙ (day by day) אַרְבָּעָ֔ה (four), לַנֶּ֥גְבָּה (to the south) לַיּ֖וֹם (day by day) אַרְבָּעָ֑ה (four), וְלָאֲסֻפִּ֖ים (and at the storehouse) שְׁנַ֥יִם (two) שְׁנָֽיִם׃ (by two). 18  לַפַּרְבָּ֖ר (At Parbar) לַֽמַּעֲרָ֑ב (on the west), אַרְבָּעָה֙ (were four) לַֽמְסִלָּ֔ה (at the highway) שְׁנַ֖יִם (and two) לַפַּרְבָּֽר׃ (at Parbar).

19  אֵ֗לֶּה (These were) מַחְלְקוֹת֙ (the divisions) הַשֹּׁ֣עֲרִ֔ים (of the gatekeepers) לִבְנֵ֥י (among the sons) הַקָּרְחִ֖י (of the Korahite) וְלִבְנֵ֥י (and among the sons) מְרָרִֽי׃ (of Merari).

The Treasurers, Officers, and Judges

20  וְֽהַלְוִיִּ֑ם (And of the Levites), אֲחִיָּ֗ה (Ahijah was) עַל־ (over) אֽוֹצְרוֹת֙ (the treasuries) בֵּ֣ית (of the house) הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים (of God) וּלְאֹֽצְר֖וֹת (and over the treasuries) הַקֳּדָשִֽׁים׃ (of the holy things). 21  בְּנֵ֣י (The sons) לַ֠עְדָּן (of Laadan), בְּנֵ֨י (the sons) הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּ֜י (of the Gershonite) לְלַעְדָּ֗ן (of Ladan), רָאשֵׁ֧י (the heads) הָאָב֛וֹת (of the fathers), לְלַעְדָּ֥ן (of Laadan) הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּ֖י (the Gershonite), יְחִיאֵלִֽי׃ (were Jehieli), 22  בְּנֵ֖י (the sons) יְחִֽיאֵלִ֑י (of Jehieli), זֵתָם֙ (Zetham), וְיוֹאֵ֣ל (and Joel) אָחִ֔יו (his brother), עַל־ (over) אֹצְר֖וֹת (the treasuries) בֵּ֥ית (of the house) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

23  לַֽעַמְרָמִי֙ (Of the Amramite), לַיִּצְהָרִ֔י (the Izharite), לַֽחֶבְרוֹנִ֖י (the Hebronite), לָֽעָזִּיאֵלִֽי׃ (and the Uzzielite):

24  וּשְׁבֻאֵל֙ (And Shebuel) בֶּן־ (son) גֵּרְשׁ֣וֹם (of Gershom) בֶּן־ (son) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (of Moses) נָגִ֖יד (was overseer) עַל־ (of) הָאֹצָרֽוֹת׃ (the treasuries). 25  וְאֶחָ֖יו (And his brothers) לֶֽאֱלִיעֶ֑זֶר (through Eliezer): רְחַבְיָ֨הוּ (Rehabiah) בְנ֜וֹ (his son), וִֽישַׁעְיָ֤הוּ (and Jeshaiah) בְנוֹ֙ (his son), וְיֹרָ֣ם (and Joram) בְּנ֔וֹ (his son), וְזִכְרִ֥י (and Zichri) בְנ֖וֹ (his son), וּשְׁלֹמוֹת (and Shelomith) בְּנֽוֹ׃ (his son). 26  ה֧וּא (This) שְׁלֹמ֣וֹת (Shelomoth) וְאֶחָ֗יו (and his brothers) עַ֣ל (were over) כָּל־ (all) אֹצְר֤וֹת (the treasuries) הַקֳּדָשִׁים֙ (of the holy things) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) הִקְדִּ֜ישׁ (had dedicated) דָּוִ֣יד (David) הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ (the king), וְרָאשֵׁ֧י (and the heads) הָאָב֛וֹת (of the fathers), לְשָׂרֵֽי־ (even heads) הָאֲלָפִ֥ים (of thousands) וְהַמֵּא֖וֹת (and of hundreds), וְשָׂרֵ֥י (and the captains) הַצָּבָֽא׃ (of the army). 27  מִן־ (From) הַמִּלְחָמ֥וֹת (the battles) וּמִן־ (and from) הַשָּׁלָ֖ל (the plunder) הִקְדִּ֑ישׁוּ (they dedicated) לְחַזֵּ֖ק (to strengthen) לְבֵ֥ית (the house) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 28  וְכֹ֨ל (And all) הַֽהִקְדִּ֜ישׁ (that had dedicated) שְׁמוּאֵ֤ל (Samuel) הָרֹאֶה֙ (the seer), וְשָׁא֣וּל (and Saul) בֶּן־ (son) קִ֔ישׁ (of Kish), וְאַבְנֵ֣ר (and Abner) בֶּן־ (son) נֵ֔ר (of Ner), וְיוֹאָ֖ב (and Joab) בֶּן־ (son) צְרוּיָ֑ה (of Zeruiah)— כֹּ֚ל (all) הַמַּקְדִּ֔ישׁ (sanctified) עַ֥ל (under) יַד־ (the hand) שְׁלֹמִ֖ית (of Shelomith) וְאֶחָֽיו׃פ (and his brothers).

29  לַיִּצְהָרִ֞י (Of the Izharite): כְּנַנְיָ֣הוּ (Chenaniah) וּבָנָ֗יו (and his sons) לַמְּלָאכָ֤ה (unto the work) הַחִֽיצוֹנָה֙ (outside) עַל־ (were over) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel) לְשֹׁטְרִ֖ים (as officials) וּלְשֹׁפְטִֽים׃ (and judges).

30  לַֽחֶבְרוֹנִ֡י (Of the Hebronite): חֲשַׁבְיָהוּ֩ (Hashabiah) וְאֶחָ֨יו (and his brothers), בְּנֵי־ (sons) חַ֜יִל (of valor), אֶ֣לֶף (a thousand) וּשְׁבַע־ (and seven) מֵא֗וֹת (hundred), עַ֚ל (were over) פְּקֻדַּ֣ת (the inspection) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) מֵעֵ֥בֶר (on the side) לַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן (of the Jordan) מַעְרָ֑בָה (west) לְכֹל֙ (for all) מְלֶ֣אכֶת (the business) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), וְלַעֲבֹדַ֖ת (and in the service) הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (of the king). 31  לַֽחֶבְרוֹנִי֙ (Of the Hebronite), יְרִיָּ֣ה (Jerijah) הָרֹ֔אשׁ (was the head) לַֽחֶבְרוֹנִ֥י (of the Hebronite), לְתֹלְדֹתָ֖יו (according to his generations) לְאָב֑וֹת (of the fathers). בִּשְׁנַ֨ת (In year) הָֽאַרְבָּעִ֜ים (the fortieth) לְמַלְכ֤וּת (of the reign) דָּוִיד֙ (of David) נִדְרָ֔שׁוּ (they were sought), וַיִּמָּצֵ֥א (and there were found) בָהֶ֛ם (among them) גִּבּ֥וֹרֵי (mighty men) חַ֖יִל (of valor) בְּיַעְזֵ֥יר (at Jazer) גִּלְעָֽד׃ (of Gilead). 32  וְאֶחָ֣יו (And his brothers), בְּנֵי־ (sons) חַ֗יִל (of valor), אַלְפַּ֛יִם (two thousand) וּשְׁבַ֥ע (and seven) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) רָאשֵׁ֣י (heads) הָאָב֑וֹת (of the fathers), וַיַּפְקִידֵ֞ם (and appointed) דָּוִ֣יד (David) הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ (the king) עַל־ (over) הָראוּבֵנִ֤י (the Reubenite), וְהַגָּדִי֙ (and the Gadite), וַחֲצִי֙ (and the half-) שֵׁ֣בֶט (tribe) הַֽמְנַשִּׁ֔י (of Manasseh) לְכָל־ (for every) דְּבַ֥ר (matter) הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים (of God) וּדְבַ֥ר (and matter) הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃פ (of the king).
