1 וַיְהִ֗י (And it came to pass) בִּימֵי֙ (in the days) אַמְרָפֶ֣ל (of Amraphel) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) שִׁנְעָ֔ר (of Shinar), אַרְי֖וֹךְ (Arioch) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) אֶלָּסָ֑ר (of Ellasar), כְּדָרְלָעֹ֙מֶר֙ (Chedorlaomer) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) עֵילָ֔ם (of Elam), וְתִדְעָ֖ל (and Tidal) מֶ֥לֶךְ (king) גּוֹיִֽם׃ (of Goiim),

2 עָשׂ֣וּ (that they made) מִלְחָמָ֗ה (war) אֶת־ (with) בֶּ֙רַע֙ (Bera) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) סְדֹ֔ם (of Sodom), וְאֶת־ (and) בִּרְשַׁ֖ע (Birsha) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) עֲמֹרָ֑ה (of Gomorrah), שִׁנְאָ֣ב׀ (and Shinab) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) אַדְמָ֗ה (of Admah), וְשֶׁמְאֵ֙בֶר֙ (and Shemeber) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) צְבֹיִים (of Zeboiim), וּמֶ֥לֶךְ (and the king) בֶּ֖לַע (of Bela) הִיא־ (that) צֹֽעַר׃ (is Zoar)).

3 כָּל־ (All) אֵ֙לֶּה֙ (these) חָֽבְר֔וּ (joined together) אֶל־ (in) עֵ֖מֶק (the Valley) הַשִּׂדִּ֑ים (of Siddim) ה֖וּא (that is) יָ֥ם (Sea) הַמֶּֽלַח׃ (the Salt)

4 שְׁתֵּ֤ים (two) עֶשְׂרֵה֙ (and ten) שָׁנָ֔ה (years) עָבְד֖וּ (they served) אֶת־ (-) כְּדָרְלָעֹ֑מֶר (Chedorlaomer), וּשְׁלֹשׁ־ (and in the three) עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה (and tenth) שָׁנָ֖ה (year) מָרָֽדוּ׃ (they rebelled).

5 וּבְאַרְבַּע֩ (And in the four) עֶשְׂרֵ֨ה (and tenth) שָׁנָ֜ה (year) בָּ֣א (came) כְדָרְלָעֹ֗מֶר (Chedorlaomer) וְהַמְּלָכִים֙ (and the kings) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) אִתּ֔וֹ (were with him), וַיַּכּ֤וּ (and they struck) אֶת־ (-) רְפָאִים֙ (the Rephaim) בְּעַשְׁתְּרֹ֣ת (in Ashteroth-) קַרְנַ֔יִם (karnaim), וְאֶת־ (and) הַזּוּזִ֖ים (the Zuzites) בְּהָ֑ם (in Ham), וְאֵת֙ (and) הָֽאֵימִ֔ים (the Emites) בְּשָׁוֵ֖ה (in Shaveh-) קִרְיָתָֽיִם׃ (kiriathaim),

6 וְאֶת־ (and) הַחֹרִ֖י (the Horite) בְּהַרְרָ֣ם (in their mountain) שֵׂעִ֑יר (of Seir), עַ֚ד (as far as) אֵ֣יל (El-) פָּארָ֔ן (Paran), אֲשֶׁ֖ר (which) עַל־ (is by) הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃ (the wilderness).

7 וַ֠יָּשֻׁבוּ (And they turned back) וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ (and came) אֶל־ (to) עֵ֤ין (En-) מִשְׁפָּט֙ (mishpat) הִ֣וא (that is) קָדֵ֔שׁ (Kadesh)) וַיַּכּ֕וּ (and they struck) אֶֽת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) שְׂדֵ֖ה (the territory) הָעֲמָלֵקִ֑י (of the Amalekite), וְגַם֙ (and also) אֶת־ (-) הָ֣אֱמֹרִ֔י (the Amorite) הַיֹּשֵׁ֖ב (who was dwelling) בְּחַֽצְצֹ֥ן (in Hazazon-) תָּמָֽר׃ (tamar).

8 וַיֵּצֵ֨א (And went out) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (the king) סְדֹ֜ם (of Sodom), וּמֶ֣לֶךְ (and the king) עֲמֹרָ֗ה (of Gomorrah), וּמֶ֤לֶךְ (and the king) אַדְמָה֙ (of Admah), וּמֶ֣לֶךְ (and the king) צְבֹיִים (of Zeboiim), וּמֶ֥לֶךְ (and the king) בֶּ֖לַע (of Bela) הִוא־ (that is) צֹ֑עַר (Zoar)). וַיַּֽעַרְכ֤וּ (And they arrayed) אִתָּם֙ (with them) מִלְחָמָ֔ה (in battle) בְּעֵ֖מֶק (in the Valley) הַשִּׂדִּֽים׃ (of Siddim)

9 אֵ֣ת (against) כְּדָרְלָעֹ֜מֶר (Chedorlaomer) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) עֵילָ֗ם (of Elam), וְתִדְעָל֙ (and Tidal) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) גּוֹיִ֔ם (of Goiim), וְאַמְרָפֶל֙ (and Amraphel) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) שִׁנְעָ֔ר (of Shinar), וְאַרְי֖וֹךְ (and Arioch) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) אֶלָּסָ֑ר (of Ellasar)— אַרְבָּעָ֥ה (four) מְלָכִ֖ים (kings) אֶת־ (against) הַחֲמִשָּֽׁה׃ (the five).

Abram Rescues Lot

10 וְעֵ֣מֶק (And the Valley) הַשִׂדִּ֗ים (of Siddim) בֶּֽאֱרֹ֤ת (had pits) בֶּאֱרֹת֙ (pits) חֵמָ֔ר (of tar); וַיָּנֻ֛סוּ (and fled) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (the kings) סְדֹ֥ם (of Sodom) וַעֲמֹרָ֖ה (and Gomorrah), וַיִּפְּלוּ־ (and some fell) שָׁ֑מָּה (there), וְהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֖ים (and the remainder) הֶ֥רָה (to the mountains) נָּֽסוּ׃ (fled).

11 וַ֠יִּקְחוּ (And they took) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) רְכֻ֨שׁ (the goods) סְדֹ֧ם (of Sodom) וַעֲמֹרָ֛ה (and Gomorrah), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) אָכְלָ֖ם (their food), וַיֵּלֵֽכוּ׃ (and they went on their way).

12 וַיִּקְח֨וּ (And they took) אֶת־ (-) ל֧וֹט (Lot) וְאֶת־ (and) רְכֻשׁ֛וֹ (his goods)) בֶּן־ (the son) אֲחִ֥י (brother) אַבְרָ֖ם (of Abram's), וַיֵּלֵ֑כוּ (and they departed), וְה֥וּא (and he) יֹשֵׁ֖ב (was dwelling) בִּסְדֹֽם׃ (in Sodom).

13 וַיָּבֹא֙ (And came) הַפָּלִ֔יט (the escapee), וַיַּגֵּ֖ד (and he told) לְאַבְרָ֣ם (Abram) הָעִבְרִ֑י (the Hebrew). וְהוּא֩ (And he) שֹׁכֵ֨ן (was dwelling) בְּאֵֽלֹנֵ֜י (by the Oaks) מַמְרֵ֣א (of Mamre) הָאֱמֹרִ֗י (the Amorite), אֲחִ֤י (brother) אֶשְׁכֹּל֙ (of Eshcol) וַאֲחִ֣י (and brother) עָנֵ֔ר (of Aner), וְהֵ֖ם (and they were) בַּעֲלֵ֥י (possessors of) בְרִית־ (a covenant) אַבְרָֽם׃ (with Abram).

14 וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע (And heard) אַבְרָ֔ם (Abram) כִּ֥י (that) נִשְׁבָּ֖ה (was taken captive) אָחִ֑יו (his brother), וַיָּ֨רֶק (and he drew out) אֶת־ (-) חֲנִיכָ֜יו (his trained) יְלִידֵ֣י (those born in) בֵית֗וֹ (his house), שְׁמֹנָ֤ה (eight) עָשָׂר֙ (and ten) וּשְׁלֹ֣שׁ (and three) מֵא֔וֹת (hundred), וַיִּרְדֹּ֖ף (and he went in pursuit) עַד־ (as far as) דָּֽן׃ (Dan).

15 וַיֵּחָלֵ֨ק (And he divided himself) עֲלֵיהֶ֧ם׀ (against them) לַ֛יְלָה (by night), ה֥וּא (he) וַעֲבָדָ֖יו (and his servants), וַיַּכֵּ֑ם (and he struck them), וַֽיִּרְדְּפֵם֙ (and he pursued them) עַד־ (as far as) חוֹבָ֔ה (Hobah), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which is) מִשְּׂמֹ֖אל (north) לְדַמָּֽשֶׂק׃ (of Damascus).

16 וַיָּ֕שֶׁב (And he brought back) אֵ֖ת (-) כָּל־ (all) הָרְכֻ֑שׁ (the goods), וְגַם֩ (and also) אֶת־ (-) ל֨וֹט (Lot) אָחִ֤יו (his brother), וּרְכֻשׁוֹ֙ (and his goods), הֵשִׁ֔יב (he brought back) וְגַ֥ם (also) אֶת־ (-) הַנָּשִׁ֖ים (the women) וְאֶת־ (and) הָעָֽם׃ (the people).

17 וַיֵּצֵ֣א (And went out) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (the king) סְדֹם֮ (of Sodom) לִקְרָאתוֹ֒ (to meet him), אַחֲרֵ֣י (after) שׁוּב֗וֹ (his return) מֵֽהַכּוֹת֙ (from striking) אֶת־ (-) כְּדָר־ (Chedor-) לָעֹ֔מֶר (laomer) וְאֶת־ (and) הַמְּלָכִ֖ים (the kings) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who were) אִתּ֑וֹ (with him), אֶל־ (at) עֵ֣מֶק (the Valley) שָׁוֵ֔ה (of Shaveh), ה֖וּא (that is) עֵ֥מֶק (Valley) הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (the King’s).

18 וּמַלְכִּי־ (And Melchi-) צֶ֙דֶק֙ (zedek) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) שָׁלֵ֔ם (of Salem) הוֹצִ֖יא (brought out) לֶ֣חֶם (bread) וָיָ֑יִן (and wine), וְה֥וּא (and he) כֹהֵ֖ן (was priest) לְאֵ֥ל (of El-) עֶלְיֽוֹן׃ (Elyon).

19 וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּ (And he blessed him) וַיֹּאמַ֑ר (and said), בָּר֤וּךְ (Blessed be) אַבְרָם֙ (Abram) לְאֵ֣ל (to El-) עֶלְי֔וֹן (Elyon), קֹנֵ֖ה (Possessor) שָׁמַ֥יִם (of the heavens) וָאָֽרֶץ׃ (and earth),

20 וּבָרוּךְ֙ (and blessed be) אֵ֣ל (El-) עֶלְי֔וֹן (Elyon), אֲשֶׁר־ (who) מִגֵּ֥ן (has delivered) צָרֶ֖יךָ (your enemies) בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ (into your hand). וַיִּתֶּן־ (And he gave) ל֥וֹ (to him) מַעֲשֵׂ֖ר (a tenth) מִכֹּֽל׃ (of everything).

21 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (And said) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (the king) סְדֹ֖ם (of Sodom) אֶל־ (to) אַבְרָ֑ם (Abram), תֶּן־ (Give) לִ֣י (to me) הַנֶּ֔פֶשׁ (the souls), וְהָרְכֻ֖שׁ (and the goods) קַֽח־ (take) לָֽךְ׃ (for yourself).

22 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (And said) אַבְרָ֖ם (Abram) אֶל־ (to) מֶ֣לֶךְ (the king) סְדֹ֑ם (of Sodom), הֲרִימֹ֨תִי (I have raised) יָדִ֤י (my hand) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֵ֣ל (El-) עֶלְי֔וֹן (Elyon), קֹנֵ֖ה (Possessor) שָׁמַ֥יִם (of the heavens) וָאָֽרֶץ׃ (and earth),

23 אִם־ (not) מִחוּט֙ (from a thread) וְעַ֣ד (even to) שְׂרֽוֹךְ־ (a strap) נַ֔עַל (of a sandal); וְאִם־ (if) אֶקַּ֖ח (I take) מִכָּל־ (anything) אֲשֶׁר־ (that is) לָ֑ךְ (yours), וְלֹ֣א (lest) תֹאמַ֔ר (you should say), אֲנִ֖י (I) הֶעֱשַׁ֥רְתִּי (have made rich) אֶת־ (-) אַבְרָֽם׃ (Abram),

24 בִּלְעָדַ֗י (except) רַ֚ק (only) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (what) אָֽכְל֣וּ (have eaten), הַנְּעָרִ֔ים (the young men) וְחֵ֙לֶק֙ (and the portion) הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים (of the men) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) הָלְכ֖וּ (went) אִתִּ֑י (with me)— עָנֵר֙ (Aner), אֶשְׁכֹּ֣ל (Eshcol), וּמַמְרֵ֔א (and Mamre). הֵ֖ם (They) יִקְח֥וּ (may take) חֶלְקָֽם׃ס (their portion).
