Job Humbles Himself before Yahweh
1 וַיַּ֖עַן (And answered) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) אִיּ֗וֹב (Job) וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ (and said),
2 הֲ֭רֹב (Is to contend) עִם־ (with) שַׁדַּ֣י (Shaddai) יִסּ֑וֹר (a reprover)?
מוֹכִ֖יחַ (The one rebuking) אֱל֣וֹהַּ (God), יַעֲנֶֽנָּה׃פ (let him answer it).
3 וַיַּ֖עַן (And answered) אִיּ֥וֹב (Job) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH) וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ (and said),
4 הֵ֣ן (Behold), קַ֭לֹּתִי (I am slight). מָ֣ה (How) אֲשִׁיבֶ֑ךָּ (can I reply to You)?
יָ֝דִ֗י (My hand) שַׂ֣מְתִּי (I place) לְמוֹ־ (over) פִֽי׃ (my mouth).
5 אַחַ֣ת (Once) דִּ֭בַּרְתִּי (I have spoken), וְלֹ֣א (not) אֶֽעֱנֶ֑ה (will I answer)—
וּ֝שְׁתַּ֗יִם (and twice), וְלֹ֣א (not) אוֹסִֽיף׃פ (I will add).
Yahweh Challenges Job Again
6 וַיַּֽעַן־ (And answered) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) אִ֭יּוֹב (Job) מִנ (from from) סְעָרָה (the whirlwind), וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ (and said),
7 אֱזָר־ (Gird up) נָ֣א (now) כְגֶ֣בֶר (like a man) חֲלָצֶ֑יךָ (your loins);
אֶ֝שְׁאָלְךָ֗ (I will question you), וְהוֹדִיעֵֽנִי׃ (and you shall let Me know).
8 הַ֭אַף (Would even) תָּפֵ֣ר (you break) מִשְׁפָּטִ֑י (My judgment)?
תַּ֝רְשִׁיעֵ֗נִי (Would you consider Me wicked) לְמַ֣עַן (so that) תִּצְדָּֽק׃ (you may be proved right)?
9 וְאִם־ (Or if) זְר֖וֹעַ (an arm) כָּאֵ֥ל׀ (like God’s) לָ֑ךְ (unto you)?
וּ֝בְק֗וֹל (Or with a voice) כָּמֹ֥הוּ (like Him) תַרְעֵֽם׃ (can you thunder)?
10 עֲדֵ֥ה (Adorn yourself) נָ֣א (please) גָֽא֣וֹן (with majesty) וָגֹ֑בַהּ (and loftiness),
וְה֖וֹד (and with honor) וְהָדָ֣ר (and glory) תִּלְבָּֽשׁ׃ (clothe yourself).
11 הָ֭פֵץ (Scatter) עֶבְר֣וֹת (the fury) אַפֶּ֑ךָ (of your nose),
וּרְאֵ֥ה (and look on) כָל־ (every) גֵּ֝אֶ֗ה (proud one), וְהַשְׁפִּילֵֽהוּ׃ (and bring him low).
12 רְאֵ֣ה (Look on) כָל־ (every) גֵּ֭אֶה (proud one), הַכְנִיעֵ֑הוּ (and humble him);
וַהֲדֹ֖ךְ (and tread down) רְשָׁעִ֣ים (the wicked) תַּחְתָּֽם׃ (in their place).
13 טָמְנֵ֣ם (Hide them) בֶּעָפָ֣ר (in the dust) יָ֑חַד (together);
פְּ֝נֵיהֶ֗ם (their faces) חֲבֹ֣שׁ (bind) בַּטָּמֽוּן׃ (in the hidden place).
14 וְגַם־ (And then) אֲנִ֥י (I) אוֹדֶ֑ךָּ (will confess to you)
כִּֽי־ (that) תוֹשִׁ֖עַ (can bring salvation) לְךָ֣ (to you) יְמִינֶֽךָ׃ (your right hand).
15 הִנֵּה־ (Behold) נָ֣א (please) בְ֭הֵמוֹת (Behemoth), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) עָשִׂ֣יתִי (I made) עִמָּ֑ךְ (with you).
חָ֝צִ֗יר (Grass) כַּבָּקָ֥ר (like the ox) יֹאכֵֽל׃ (he eats).
16 הִנֵּה־ (Behold) נָ֣א (please), כֹח֣וֹ (his power is) בְמָתְנָ֑יו (in his loins),
וְ֝אֹנ֗וֹ (and his strength is) בִּשְׁרִירֵ֥י (in the muscles) בִטְנֽוֹ׃ (of his belly).
17 יַחְפֹּ֣ץ (He bends) זְנָב֣וֹ (his tail) כְמוֹ־ (like) אָ֑רֶז (a cedar);
גִּידֵ֖י (the sinews) פַחֲדוֹ (of his thighs) יְשֹׂרָֽגוּ׃ (are tightly knit).
18 עֲ֭צָמָיו (His bones) אֲפִיקֵ֣י (are tubes) נְחוּשָׁ֑ה (of bronze);
גְּ֝רָמָ֗יו (his limbs) כִּמְטִ֥יל (are like a bar) בַּרְזֶֽל׃ (of iron).
19 ה֭וּא (He is) רֵאשִׁ֣ית (the first) דַּרְכֵי־ (of the ways) אֵ֑ל (of God);
הָ֝עֹשׂוֹ (his Maker) יַגֵּ֥שׁ (can bring near) חַרְבּֽוֹ׃ (His sword).
20 כִּֽי־ (For) ב֭וּל (produce) הָרִ֣ים (the mountains) יִשְׂאוּ־ (carry) ל֑וֹ (to him),
וְֽכָל־ (and all) חַיַּ֥ת (the creatures) הַ֝שָּׂדֶ֗ה (of the field) יְשַֽׂחֲקוּ־ (play) שָֽׁם׃ (there).
21 תַּֽחַת־ (Beneath) צֶאֱלִ֥ים (the lotus trees) יִשְׁכָּ֑ב (he lies down),
בְּסֵ֖תֶר (in the covering) קָנֶ֣ה (of reed) וּבִצָּֽה׃ (and marsh).
22 יְסֻכֻּ֣הוּ (Cover him) צֶאֱלִ֣ים (the lotus trees) צִֽלֲל֑וֹ (with their shade);
יְ֝סֻבּ֗וּהוּ (surround him) עַרְבֵי־ (the willows) נָֽחַל׃ (of the brook).
23 הֵ֤ן (Though) יַעֲשֹׁ֣ק (may press) נָ֭הָר (the river), לֹ֣א (not) יַחְפּ֑וֹז (does he hurry off);
יִבְטַ֓ח׀ (he is secure) כִּֽי־ (though) יָגִ֖יחַ (should burst forth) יַרְדֵּ֣ן (the Jordan) אֶל־ (toward) פִּֽיהוּ׃ (his mouth).
24 בְּעֵינָ֥יו (By his eyes), יִקָּחֶ֑נּוּ (can one take him)
בְּ֝מֽוֹקְשִׁ֗ים (or with snares) יִנְקָב־ (can one pierce) אָֽף׃ (his nose)?
