1 “At this my heart also pounds and leaps from its place. “At this also my heart trembles and leaps out of its place. At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of his place. “At this also my heart trembles, And leaps from its place. “At this my heart pounds and leaps from its place.
2 Listen closely to the thunder of His voice and the rumbling that comes from His mouth. Keep listening to the thunder of his voice and the rumbling that comes from his mouth. Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound <i>that</i> goeth out of his mouth. “Listen closely to the thunder of His voice, And the rumbling that goes out from His mouth. Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice, to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
3 He unleashes His lightning beneath the whole sky and sends it to the ends of the earth. Under the whole heaven he lets it go, and his lightning to the corners of the earth. He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth. “Under the whole heaven He lets it loose, And His lightning <i>travels</i> to the ends of the earth. He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the ends of the earth.
4 Then there comes a roaring sound; He thunders with His majestic voice. He does not restrain the lightning when His voice resounds. After it his voice roars; he thunders with his majestic voice, and he does not restrain the lightnings when his voice is heard. After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard. “After it, a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, And He does not restrain the lightning when His voice is heard. After that comes the sound of his roar; he thunders with his majestic voice. When his voice resounds, he holds nothing back.
5 God thunders wondrously with His voice; He does great things we cannot comprehend. God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend. God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend. “God thunders wondrously with His voice, Doing great things which we do not comprehend. God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.
6 For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the gentle rain, ‘Pour out a mighty downpour.’ For to the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ likewise to the downpour, his mighty downpour. For he saith to the snow, Be thou <i>on</i> the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength. “For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ And to the downpour and the rain, ‘Be strong.’ He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’
7 He seals up the hand of every man, so that all men may know His work. He seals up the hand of every man, that all men whom he made may know it. He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work. “He seals the hand of every person, So that all people may know His work. So that everyone he has made may know his work, he stops all people from their labor.
8 The wild animals enter their lairs; they settle down in their dens. Then the beasts go into their lairs, and remain in their dens. Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places. “Then the animal goes into its lair And remains in its den. The animals take cover; they remain in their dens.
9 The tempest comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds. From its chamber comes the whirlwind, and cold from the scattering winds. Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north. “From the south comes the storm, And from the north wind the cold. The tempest comes out from its chamber, the cold from the driving winds.
10 By the breath of God the ice is formed and the watery expanses are frozen. By the breath of God ice is given, and the broad waters are frozen fast. By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened. “From the breath of God ice is made, And the expanse of the waters is frozen. The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen.
11 He loads the clouds with moisture; He scatters His lightning through them. He loads the thick cloud with moisture; the clouds scatter his lightning. Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud: “He also loads the clouds with moisture; He disperses the cloud of His lightning. He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through them.
12 They swirl about, whirling at His direction, accomplishing all that He commands over the face of all the earth. They turn around and around by his guidance, to accomplish all that he commands them on the face of the habitable world. And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth. “It changes direction, turning around by His guidance, That it may do whatever He commands it On the face of the inhabited earth. At his direction they swirl around over the face of the whole earth to do whatever he commands them.
13 Whether for punishment or for His land, He accomplishes this in His loving devotion. Whether for correction or for his land or for love, he causes it to happen. He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy. “Whether for correction, or for His earth, Or for goodness, He causes it to happen. He brings the clouds to punish people, or to water his earth and show his love.
14 Listen to this, O Job; stand still and consider the wonders of God. “Hear this, O Job; stop and consider the wondrous works of God. Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God. “Listen to this, Job; Stand and consider the wonders of God. “Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God’s wonders.
15 Do you know how God dispatches the clouds or makes the lightning flash? Do you know how God lays his command upon them and causes the lightning of his cloud to shine? Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine? “Do you know how God establishes them, And makes the lightning of His clouds to shine? Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash?
16 Do you understand how the clouds float, those wonders of Him who is perfect in knowledge? Do you know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge, Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge? “Do you know about the hovering of the clouds, The wonders of One who is perfect in knowledge, Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?
17 You whose clothes get hot when the land lies hushed under the south wind, you whose garments are hot when the earth is still because of the south wind? How thy garments <i>are</i> warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south <i>wind</i>? You whose garments are hot When the land is still because of the south wind? You who swelter in your clothes when the land lies hushed under the south wind,
18 can you, like Him, spread out the skies to reflect the heat like a mirror of bronze? Can you, like him, spread out the skies, hard as a cast metal mirror? Hast thou with him spread out the sky, <i>which is</i> strong, <i>and</i> as a molten looking glass? “Can you, with Him, spread out the skies, Strong as a cast metal mirror? can you join him in spreading out the skies, hard as a mirror of cast bronze?
19 Teach us what we should say to Him; we cannot draw up our case when our faces are in darkness. Teach us what we shall say to him; we cannot draw up our case because of darkness. Teach us what we shall say unto him; <i>for</i> we cannot order <i>our speech</i> by reason of darkness. “Teach us what we are to say to Him; We cannot present <i>our case</i> because of darkness. “Tell us what we should say to him; we cannot draw up our case because of our darkness.
20 Should He be told that I want to speak? Would a man ask to be swallowed up Shall it be told him that I would speak? Did a man ever wish that he would be swallowed up? Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up. “Shall it be told Him that I would speak? Or should a man say that he would be swallowed up? Should he be told that I want to speak? Would anyone ask to be swallowed up?
21 Now no one can gaze at the sun when it is bright in the skies after the wind has swept them clean. “And now no one looks on the light when it is bright in the skies, when the wind has passed and cleared them. And now <i>men</i> see not the bright light which <i>is</i> in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them. “Now <i>people</i> do not see the light which is bright in the skies; But the wind has passed and cleared them. Now no one can look at the sun, bright as it is in the skies after the wind has swept them clean.
22 Out of the north He comes in golden splendor; awesome majesty surrounds Him. Out of the north comes golden splendor; God is clothed with awesome majesty. Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God <i>is</i> terrible majesty. “From the north comes golden <i>splendor;</i> Around God is awesome majesty. Out of the north he comes in golden splendor; God comes in awesome majesty.
23 The Almighty is beyond our reach; He is exalted in power! In His justice and great righteousness He does not oppress. The Almighty—we cannot find him; he is great in power; justice and abundant righteousness he will not violate. <i>Touching</i> the Almighty, we cannot find him out: <i>he is</i> excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict. “The Almighty—we cannot find Him; He is exalted in power And He will not violate justice and abundant righteousness. The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress.
24 Therefore, men fear Him, for He is not partial to the wise in heart.” Therefore men fear him; he does not regard any who are wise in their own conceit.” Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any <i>that are</i> wise of heart. “Therefore people fear Him; He does not regard any who are wise of heart.” Therefore, people revere him, for does he not have regard for all the wise in heart?”
