1  הַדָּבָ֞ר (The word) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) הָיָ֤ה (came to be) אֶֽל־ (to) יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ (Jeremiah) מֵאֵ֣ת (from) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) בִּשְׁנַת (year) הָעֲשִׂרִ֔ית (in the tenth) לְצִדְקִיָּ֖הוּ (of Zedekiah) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah), הִ֧יא (which was) הַשָּׁנָ֛ה (year) שְׁמֹנֶֽה־ (the eighth) עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה (and tenth) שָׁנָ֖ה (year) לִנְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּֽר׃ (of Nebuchadnezzar). 2  וְאָ֗ז (And then) חֵ֚יל (the army) מֶ֣לֶךְ (of the king) בָּבֶ֔ל (of Babylon) צָרִ֖ים (was pressing) עַל־ (upon) יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (Jerusalem), וְיִרְמְיָ֣הוּ (and Jeremiah) הַנָּבִ֗יא (the prophet) הָיָ֤ה (was) כָלוּא֙ (shut up) בַּחֲצַ֣ר (in the court) הַמַּטָּרָ֔ה (of the guard), אֲשֶׁ֖ר (that was) בֵּֽית־ (in the house) מֶ֥לֶךְ (of the king) יְהוּדָֽה׃ (of Judah).

3  אֲשֶׁ֣ר (For) כְּלָא֔וֹ (had shut him up), צִדְקִיָּ֥הוּ (Zedekiah) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יְהוּדָ֖ה (of Judah) לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), מַדּוּעַ֩ (Why) אַתָּ֨ה (are you) נִבָּ֜א (prophesying), לֵאמֹ֗ר (saying), כֹּ֚ה (thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH), הִנְנִ֨י (Behold, I) נֹתֵ֜ן (am giving) אֶת־ (-) הָעִ֥יר (city) הַזֹּ֛את (this) בְּיַ֥ד (into the hand) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (of the king) בָּבֶ֖ל (of Babylon), וּלְכָדָֽהּ׃ (and he will take it). 4  וְצִדְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙ (And Zedekiah) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) יְהוּדָ֔ה (of Judah) לֹ֥א (not) יִמָּלֵ֖ט (will escape) מִיַּ֣ד (from the hand) הַכַּשְׂדִּ֑ים (of the Chaldeans), כִּ֣י (but) הִנָּתֹ֤ן (being given) יִנָּתֵן֙ (he will be given) בְּיַ֣ד (into the hand) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (of the king) בָּבֶ֔ל (of Babylon), וְדִבֶּר־ (and will speak with him) פִּ֣יו (face) עִם־ (to) פִּ֔יו (face), וְעֵינָ֖יו (eye) אֶת־ (-) עֵינוֹ (to eye); תִּרְאֶֽינָה׃ (and will see him). 5  וּבָבֶ֞ל (To Babylon), יוֹלִ֤ךְ (and he will bring) אֶת־ (-) צִדְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙ (Zedekiah) וְשָׁ֣ם (and there) יִֽהְיֶ֔ה (he will be) עַד־ (until) פָּקְדִ֥י (I visit) אֹת֖וֹ (him) נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH). כִּ֧י (If) תִֽלָּחֲמ֛וּ (you⁺ fight) אֶת־ (against) הַכַּשְׂדִּ֖ים (the Chaldeans), לֹ֥א (not) תַצְלִֽיחוּ׃פ (you⁺ will succeed).

6  וַיֹּ֖אמֶר (Said), יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ (and Jeremiah) הָיָ֥ה (Came) דְּבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 7  הִנֵּ֣ה (behold), חֲנַמְאֵ֗ל (Hanamel) בֶּן־ (son) שַׁלֻּם֙ (of Shallum) דֹּֽדְךָ֔ (your uncle) בָּ֥א (is coming) אֵלֶ֖יךָ (to you) לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), קְנֵ֣ה (Buy) לְךָ֗ (for yourself) אֶת־ (-) שָׂדִי֙ (my field) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that is) בַּעֲנָת֔וֹת (in Anathoth), כִּ֥י (for) לְךָ֛ (unto you is) מִשְׁפַּ֥ט (the right) הַגְּאֻלָּ֖ה (of redemption) לִקְנֽוֹת׃ (to buy it). 8  וַיָּבֹ֣א (Came) אֵ֠לַי (to me) חֲנַמְאֵ֨ל (and Hanamel) בֶּן־ (son) דֹּדִ֜י (of my uncle) כִּדְבַ֣ר (according to the word) יְהוָה֮ (of YHWH), אֶל־ (in) חֲצַ֣ר (the court) הַמַּטָּרָה֒ (of the guard) וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (and he said) אֵלַ֡י (to me) קְנֵ֣ה (Buy) נָ֠א (now), אֶת־ (-) שָׂדִ֨י (my field), אֲשֶׁר־ (that is) בַּעֲנָת֜וֹת (in Anathoth), אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ (which is) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the country) בִּנְיָמִ֗ין (of Benjamin); כִּֽי־ (for) לְךָ֞ (unto you is) מִשְׁפַּ֧ט (the right) הַיְרֻשָּׁ֛ה (of inheritance) וּלְךָ֥ (and unto you) הַגְּאֻלָּ֖ה (the redemption) קְנֵה־ (buy it) לָ֑ךְ (for yourself)

וָאֵדַ֕ע (and I knew) כִּ֥י (that) דְבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) הֽוּא׃ (it was).

9  וָֽאֶקְנֶה֙ (And I bought) אֶת־ (-) הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה (the field) מֵאֵ֛ת (from) חֲנַמְאֵ֥ל (Hanamel) בֶּן־ (son), דֹּדִ֖י (of my uncle) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that was) בַּעֲנָת֑וֹת (in Anathoth), וָֽאֶשְׁקֲלָה־ (and I weighed out) לּוֹ֙ (for him) אֶת־ (-) הַכֶּ֔סֶף (the silver), שִׁבְעָ֥ה (seven) שְׁקָלִ֖ים (shekels) וַעֲשָׂרָ֥ה (and ten) הַכָּֽסֶף׃ (of silver). 10  וָאֶכְתֹּ֤ב (And I wrote) בַּסֵּ֙פֶר֙ (in the account), וָֽאֶחְתֹּ֔ם (and sealed it) וָאָעֵ֖ד (and I took) עֵדִ֑ים (witnesses), וָאֶשְׁקֹ֥ל (and weighed out) הַכֶּ֖סֶף (the silver) בְּמֹאזְנָֽיִם׃ (in the scales). 11  וָאֶקַּ֖ח (And I took) אֶת־ (-) סֵ֣פֶר (the account) הַמִּקְנָ֑ה (of the purchase), אֶת־ (-) הֶֽחָת֛וּם (that which was sealed) הַמִּצְוָ֥ה (according to the law) וְהַחֻקִּ֖ים (and custom), וְאֶת־ (and) הַגָּלֽוּי׃ (that which was open); 12  וָאֶתֵּ֞ן (and I gave) אֶת־ (-) הַסֵּ֣פֶר (the account) הַמִּקְנָ֗ה (of the purchase) אֶל־ (to) בָּר֣וּךְ (Baruch) בֶּן־ (son) נֵרִיָּה֮ (of Neriah), בֶּן־ (son) מַחְסֵיָה֒ (of Mahseiah), לְעֵינֵי֙ (before) חֲנַמְאֵ֣ל (Hanamel) דֹּדִ֔י (of my uncle) וּלְעֵינֵי֙ (and before) הָֽעֵדִ֔ים (the witnesses) הַכֹּתְבִ֖ים (having written) בְּסֵ֣פֶר (in the account) הַמִּקְנָ֑ה (of the purchase), לְעֵינֵי֙ (and before) כָּל־ (all) הַיְּהוּדִ֔ים (the Jews) הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים (sitting) בַּחֲצַ֥ר (in the court) הַמַּטָּרָֽה׃ (of the guard).

13  וָֽאֲצַוֶּה֙ (And I commanded) אֶת (-) בָּר֔וּךְ (Baruch) לְעֵינֵיהֶ֖ם (before their eyes) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 14  כֹּֽה־ (Thus) אָמַר֩ (says) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֜וֹת (Hosts), אֱלֹהֵ֣י (the God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel); לָק֣וֹחַ (Take) אֶת־ (-) הַסְּפָרִ֣ים (accounts), הָאֵ֡לֶּה (these) אֵ֣ת (-) סֵפֶר֩ (account) הַמִּקְנָ֨ה (of the purchase), הַזֶּ֜ה (this) וְאֵ֣ת (-) הֶחָת֗וּם (that which is sealed), וְאֵ֨ת (and) סֵ֤פֶר (account) הַגָּלוּי֙ (that is open); הַזֶּ֔ה (this) וּנְתַתָּ֖ם (and put them) בִּכְלִי־ (vessel), חָ֑רֶשׂ (in an earthenware) לְמַ֥עַן (that) יַעַמְד֖וּ (they may stand) יָמִ֥ים (days) רַבִּֽים׃ס (many). 15  כִּ֣י (For) כֹ֥ה (thus) אָמַ֛ר (says) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts), אֱלֹהֵ֣י (the God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel); ע֣וֹד (again) יִקָּנ֥וּ (will be possessed) בָתִּ֛ים (houses) וְשָׂד֥וֹת (and fields) וּכְרָמִ֖ים (and vineyards) בָּאָ֥רֶץ (land) הַזֹּֽאת׃פ (in this).

16  וָאֶתְפַּלֵּ֖ל (And I prayed) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH), אַחֲרֵ֤י (after) תִתִּי֙ (I had delivered) אֶת־ (-) סֵ֣פֶר (the account) הַמִּקְנָ֔ה (of the purchase) אֶל־ (to) בָּר֥וּךְ (Baruch) בֶּן־ (son) נֵרִיָּ֖ה (of Neriah), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 17  אֲהָהּ֮ (Ah) אֲדֹנָ֣י (Lord) יְהוִה֒ (YHWH) הִנֵּ֣ה׀ (behold), אַתָּ֣ה (You) עָשִׂ֗יתָ (have made) אֶת־ (-) הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ (the heavens) וְאֶת־ (and) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the earth) בְּכֹֽחֲךָ֙ (power) הַגָּד֔וֹל (by Your great) וּבִֽזְרֹעֲךָ֖ (arm), הַנְּטוּיָ֑ה (and by Your outstretched) לֹֽא־ (there is not) יִפָּלֵ֥א (too difficult) מִמְּךָ֖ (for You) כָּל־ (any) דָּבָֽר׃ (thing).

18  עֹ֤שֶׂה (Showing) חֶ֙סֶד֙ (loving devotion) לַֽאֲלָפִ֔ים (to thousands), וּמְשַׁלֵּם֙ (and recompensing) עֲוֺ֣ן (the iniquity) אָב֔וֹת (of the fathers) אֶל־ (into) חֵ֥יק (the bosom) בְּנֵיהֶ֖ם (of their children) אַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם (after them) הָאֵ֤ל (O God), הַגָּדוֹל֙ (great), הַגִּבּ֔וֹר (and Mighty) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts), שְׁמֽוֹ׃ (is His name), 19  גְּדֹל֙ (great) הָֽעֵצָ֔ה (in counsel), וְרַ֖ב (and mighty) הָעֲלִֽילִיָּ֑ה (in deed), אֲשֶׁר־ (-) עֵינֶ֣יךָ (Your eyes) פְקֻח֗וֹת (are open) עַל־ (upon) כָּל־ (all) דַּרְכֵי֙ (the ways) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) אָדָ֔ם (of men), לָתֵ֤ת (to give) לְאִישׁ֙ (to each man) כִּדְרָכָ֔יו (according to his ways), וְכִפְרִ֖י (and according to the fruit) מַעֲלָלָֽיו׃ (of his deeds).

20  אֲשֶׁר־ (You) שַׂ֠מְתָּ (have set) אֹת֨וֹת (signs) וּמֹפְתִ֤ים (and wonders) בְּאֶֽרֶץ־ (in the land) מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ (of Egypt), עַד־ (to) הַיּ֣וֹם (day), הַזֶּ֔ה (this) וּבְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (and in Israel), וּבָֽאָדָ֑ם (and among men); וַתַּעֲשֶׂה־ (and You have made) לְּךָ֥ (for Yourself) שֵׁ֖ם (a name), כַּיּ֥וֹם (day); הַזֶּֽה׃ (as at this).

21  וַתֹּצֵ֛א (And You have brought forth) אֶת־ (-) עַמְּךָ֥ (Your people) אֶת־ (-) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (Israel) מֵאֶ֣רֶץ (from the land) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt) בְּאֹת֣וֹת (with signs), וּבְמוֹפְתִ֗ים (and with wonders), וּבְיָ֤ד (hand), חֲזָקָה֙ (and with a mighty) וּבְאֶזְר֣וֹעַ (arm), נְטוּיָ֔ה (and with an outstretched) וּבְמוֹרָ֖א (terror); גָּדֽוֹל׃ (and with great). 22  וַתִּתֵּ֤ן (And You gave) לָהֶם֙ (to them) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֣רֶץ (land), הַזֹּ֔את (this) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתָּ (You swore) לַאֲבוֹתָ֖ם (to their fathers) לָתֵ֣ת (to give) לָהֶ֑ם (to them) אֶ֛רֶץ (a land) זָבַ֥ת (flowing with) חָלָ֖ב (milk) וּדְבָֽשׁ׃ (and honey).

23  וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ (And they came in) וַיִּֽרְשׁ֣וּ (and possessed) אֹתָ֗הּ (it) וְלֹֽא־ (and not) שָׁמְע֤וּ (they did listen) בְקוֹלֶ֙ךָ֙ (to Your voice), וּבְתֹרוֹתֶךָ (and in Your law); לֹא־ (they did not) הָלָ֔כוּ (walk) אֵת֩ (-) כָּל־ (all) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) צִוִּ֧יתָה (You commanded) לָהֶ֛ם (them) לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת (to do) לֹ֣א (not) עָשׂ֑וּ (they have done); וַתַּקְרֵ֣א (and so You made to befall) אֹתָ֔ם (them) אֵ֥ת (-) כָּל־ (all) הָרָעָ֖ה (the evil) הַזֹּֽאת׃ (this). 24  הִנֵּ֣ה (Behold) הַסֹּלְל֗וֹת (the siege ramps), בָּ֣אוּ (have come) הָעִיר֮ (to the city) לְלָכְדָהּ֒ (to take it) וְהָעִ֣יר (and the city) נִתְּנָ֗ה (has been given) בְּיַ֤ד (into the hand) הַכַּשְׂדִּים֙ (of the Chaldeans), הַנִּלְחָמִ֣ים (who are fighting) עָלֶ֔יהָ (against it) מִפְּנֵ֛י (by the face of) הַחֶ֥רֶב (the sword), וְהָרָעָ֖ב (and the famine), וְהַדָּ֑בֶר (and the pestilence); וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר (and that which) דִּבַּ֛רְתָּ (You have spoken) הָיָ֖ה (has come to pass); וְהִנְּךָ֥ (and behold, You) רֹאֶֽה׃ (are seeing it).

25  וְאַתָּ֞ה (And You) אָמַ֤רְתָּ (have said) אֵלַי֙ (to me) אֲדֹנָ֣י (O Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH), קְנֵֽה־ (Buy) לְךָ֧ (for yourself) הַשָּׂדֶ֛ה (the field) בַּכֶּ֖סֶף (with silver), וְהָעֵ֣ד (and cause to testify) עֵדִ֑ים (witnesses); וְהָעִ֥יר (even though the city) נִתְּנָ֖ה (has been given) בְּיַ֥ד (into the hand) הַכַּשְׂדִּֽים׃ (of the Chaldeans).

Yahweh Answers Jeremiah

26  וַיְהִי֙ (Came) דְּבַר־ (and the word) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) אֶֽל־ (to) יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ (Jeremiah), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 27  הִנֵּה֙ (Behold), אֲנִ֣י (I am) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH), אֱלֹהֵ֖י (the God) כָּל־ (of all) בָּשָׂ֑ר (flesh); הֲ‍ֽמִמֶּ֔נִּי (for Me) יִפָּלֵ֖א (too difficult) כָּל־ (is any) דָּבָֽר׃ (thing).

28  לָכֵ֕ן (Therefore) כֹּ֖ה (thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH); הִנְנִ֣י (behold, I) נֹתֵן֩ (am giving) אֶת־ (-) הָעִ֨יר (city) הַזֹּ֜את (this) בְּיַ֣ד (into the hand) הַכַּשְׂדִּ֗ים (of the Chaldeans), וּבְיַ֛ד (and into the hand) נְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֥ר (of Nebuchadnezzar) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) בָּבֶ֖ל (of Babylon), וּלְכָדָֽהּ׃ (and he will take it). 29  וּבָ֣אוּ (Will come in) הַכַּשְׂדִּ֗ים (and the Chaldeans), הַנִּלְחָמִים֙ (fighting) עַל־ (against) הָעִ֣יר (city), הַזֹּ֔את (this) וְהִצִּ֜יתוּ (and they will set) אֶת־ (-) הָעִ֥יר (city), הַזֹּ֛את (this) בָּאֵ֖שׁ (on fire) וּשְׂרָפ֑וּהָ (and will burn it) וְאֵ֣ת (along with) הַבָּתִּ֡ים (the houses), אֲשֶׁר֩ (whose) קִטְּר֨וּ (they offered incense) עַל־ (on) גַּגּֽוֹתֵיהֶ֜ם (roofs) לַבַּ֗עַל (to Baal), וְהִסִּ֤כוּ (and poured out) נְסָכִים֙ (drink offerings) לֵאלֹהִ֣ים (gods), אֲחֵרִ֔ים (to other) לְמַ֖עַן (so as) הַכְעִסֵֽנִי׃ (to provoke Me to anger).

30  כִּֽי־ (For) הָי֨וּ (have been) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל (of Israel) וּבְנֵ֣י (and the sons) יְהוּדָ֗ה (of Judah) אַ֣ךְ (only) עֹשִׂ֥ים (doing) הָרַ֛ע (evil) בְּעֵינַ֖י (in My eyes) מִנְּעֻרֹֽתֵיהֶ֑ם (from their youth); כִּ֣י (for) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel) אַ֣ךְ (surely) מַכְעִסִ֥ים (to anger) אֹתִ֛י (have provoked Me) בְּמַעֲשֵׂ֥ה (by the work) יְדֵיהֶ֖ם (of their hands), נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

31  כִּ֧י (For) עַל־ (upon) אַפִּ֣י (My anger) וְעַל־ (and) חֲמָתִ֗י (My fury) הָ֤יְתָה (has been) לִּי֙ (unto Me) הָעִ֣יר (city) הַזֹּ֔את (this) לְמִן־ (from) הַיּוֹם֙ (the day) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) בָּנ֣וּ (they built) אוֹתָ֔הּ (it) וְעַ֖ד (even to) הַיּ֣וֹם (day); הַזֶּ֑ה (this) לַהֲסִירָ֖הּ (and I will turn it aside) מֵעַ֥ל (from before) פָּנָֽי׃ (My face), 32  עַל֩ (because of) כָּל־ (all) רָעַ֨ת (the evil) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל (of Israel) וּבְנֵ֣י (and the sons) יְהוּדָ֗ה (of Judah), אֲשֶׁ֤ר (which) עָשׂוּ֙ (they have done) לְהַכְעִסֵ֔נִי (to provoke Me to anger), הֵ֤מָּה (they), מַלְכֵיהֶם֙ (their kings), שָֽׂרֵיהֶ֔ם (their princes), כֹּהֲנֵיהֶ֖ם (their priests), וּנְבִֽיאֵיהֶ֑ם (and their prophets), וְאִ֣ישׁ (and the men) יְהוּדָ֔ה (of Judah), וְיֹשְׁבֵ֖י (and the dwellers) יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (of Jerusalem). 33  וַיִּפְנ֥וּ (And they have turned) אֵלַ֛י (to Me) עֹ֖רֶף (the neck), וְלֹ֣א (and not) פָנִ֑ים (the face); וְלַמֵּ֤ד (though I taught) אֹתָם֙ (them) הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם (rising up early) וְלַמֵּ֔ד (and teaching) וְאֵינָ֥ם (and not) שֹׁמְעִ֖ים (they have listened) לָקַ֥חַת (to receive) מוּסָֽר׃ (instruction).

34  וַיָּשִׂ֣ימוּ (And they set) שִׁקּֽוּצֵיהֶ֗ם (their abominations) בַּבַּ֛יִת (in the house), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) נִקְרָֽא־ (is called) שְׁמִ֥י (My name), עָלָ֖יו (upon) לְטַמְּאֽוֹ׃ (to defile it). 35  וַיִּבְנוּ֩ (And they built) אֶת־ (-) בָּמ֨וֹת (the high places) הַבַּ֜עַל (of Baal), אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ (that are) בְּגֵ֣יא (in the Valley) בֶן־ (of Ben-) הִנֹּ֗ם (Hinnom), לְ֠הַעֲבִיר (to make pass through) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵיהֶ֣ם (their sons) וְאֶת־ (and) בְּנוֹתֵיהֶם֮ (their daughters) לַמֹּלֶךְ֒ (unto Molech); אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which) לֹֽא־ (not), צִוִּיתִ֗ים (I did command them) וְלֹ֤א (and not) עָֽלְתָה֙ (did it come) עַל־ (upon) לִבִּ֔י (My heart), לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת (that they should do) הַתּוֹעֵבָ֣ה (abomination), הַזֹּ֑את (this) לְמַ֖עַן (so as) הַחֲטִי (to sin). אֶת־ (-) יְהוּדָֽה׃ס (to cause Judah).

36  וְעַתָּ֕ה (And now) לָכֵ֛ן (therefore) כֹּֽה־ (thus) אָמַ֥ר (says) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH), אֱלֹהֵ֣י (the God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), אֶל־ (concerning) הָעִ֨יר (city), הַזֹּ֜את (this) אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ (of which) אַתֶּ֣ם (you⁺) אֹמְרִ֗ים (are saying), נִתְּנָה֙ (It will be given) בְּיַ֣ד (into the hand) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (of the king) בָּבֶ֔ל (of Babylon) בַּחֶ֖רֶב (by the sword), וּבָרָעָ֥ב (and by the famine), וּבַדָּֽבֶר׃ (and by the pestilence); 37  הִנְנִ֤י (behold, I) מְקַבְּצָם֙ (am going to gather them) מִכָּל־ (from all) הָ֣אֲרָצ֔וֹת (the lands), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (to which) הִדַּחְתִּ֥ים (I have driven them) שָׁ֛ם (there) בְּאַפִּ֥י (in My anger), וּבַחֲמָתִ֖י (and in My fury), וּבְקֶ֣צֶף (wrath); גָּד֑וֹל (and in great) וַהֲשִֽׁבֹתִים֙ (and I will return them) אֶל־ (to) הַמָּק֣וֹם (place), הַזֶּ֔ה (this) וְהֹשַׁבְתִּ֖ים (and I will cause them to dwell) לָבֶֽטַח׃ (in safety). 38  וְהָ֥יוּ (And they will be) לִ֖י (My) לְעָ֑ם (people), וַאֲנִ֕י (and I) אֶהְיֶ֥ה (will be) לָהֶ֖ם (their) לֵאלֹהִֽים׃ (God); 39  וְנָתַתִּ֨י (and I will give) לָהֶ֜ם (to them) לֵ֤ב (heart), אֶחָד֙ (one) וְדֶ֣רֶךְ (way), אֶחָ֔ד (and one) לְיִרְאָ֥ה (that they may fear) אוֹתִ֖י (Me) כָּל־ (all) הַיָּמִ֑ים (the days), לְט֣וֹב (for the good) לָהֶ֔ם (of them) וְלִבְנֵיהֶ֖ם (and of their sons) אַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃ (after them).

40  וְכָרַתִּ֤י (And I will make) לָהֶם֙ (with them) בְּרִ֣ית (a covenant) עוֹלָ֔ם (forever) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) לֹֽא־ (not) אָשׁוּב֙ (I will turn away) מֵאַ֣חֲרֵיהֶ֔ם (from them) לְהֵיטִיבִ֖י (My doing good) אוֹתָ֑ם (-) וְאֶת־ (and) יִרְאָתִי֙ (My fear) אֶתֵּ֣ן (I will put) בִּלְבָבָ֔ם (in their hearts), לְבִלְתִּ֖י (and not) ס֥וּר (they will turn aside) מֵעָלָֽי׃ (from Me). 41  וְשַׂשְׂתִּ֥י (And I will rejoice) עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם (over them) לְהֵטִ֣יב (to do good) אוֹתָ֑ם (for them) וּנְטַעְתִּ֞ים (and I will plant them) בָּאָ֤רֶץ (in the land) הַזֹּאת֙ (this) בֶּאֱמֶ֔ת (in truth) בְּכָל־ (with all) לִבִּ֖י (My heart) וּבְכָל־ (and with all) נַפְשִֽׁי׃ס (My soul).

42  כִּֽי־ (For) כֹה֙ (thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH); כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר (as) הֵבֵ֙אתִי֙ (I have brought) אֶל־ (to) הָעָ֣ם (people), הַזֶּ֔ה (this) אֵ֛ת (-) כָּל־ (all) הָרָעָ֥ה (evil) הַגְּדוֹלָ֖ה (great) הַזֹּ֑את (this) כֵּ֣ן (so) אָנֹכִ֞י (I) מֵבִ֤יא (am bringing in) עֲלֵיהֶם֙ (upon them) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הַטּוֹבָ֔ה (the good) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) אָנֹכִ֖י (I) דֹּבֵ֥ר (am speaking) עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ (over them). 43  וְנִקְנָ֥ה (And it will be bought) הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה (the field) בָּאָ֣רֶץ (land), הַזֹּ֑את (in this) אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ (of which) אַתֶּ֣ם (you⁺) אֹמְרִ֗ים (say), שְׁמָמָ֥ה (Desolate) הִיא֙ (it is) מֵאֵ֤ין (with no) אָדָם֙ (man) וּבְהֵמָ֔ה (or beast); נִתְּנָ֖ה (it has been given) בְּיַ֥ד (into the hand) הַכַּשְׂדִּֽים׃ (of the Chaldeans). 44  שָׂד֞וֹת (Fields) בַּכֶּ֣סֶף (for money), יִקְנ֗וּ (they will buy) וְכָת֨וֹב (and sign) בַּסֵּ֥פֶר׀ (accounts), וְחָתוֹם֮ (and seal them) וְהָעֵ֣ד (and take) עֵדִים֒ (witnesses) בְּאֶ֨רֶץ (in the land) בִּנְיָמִ֜ן (of Benjamin), וּבִסְבִיבֵ֣י (and in the places around) יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם (Jerusalem), וּבְעָרֵ֤י (and in the cities) יְהוּדָה֙ (of Judah), וּבְעָרֵ֣י (and in the cities) הָהָ֔ר (of the hill country), וּבְעָרֵ֥י (and in the cities) הַשְּׁפֵלָ֖ה (of the Shephelah), וּבְעָרֵ֣י (and in the cities) הַנֶּ֑גֶב (of the Negev); כִּֽי־ (for) אָשִׁ֥יב (I will cause to return), אֶת־ (-) שְׁבוּתָ֖ם (their captives) נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃פ (of YHWH).
