Jerusalem’s New Settlers

1  וַיֵּשְׁב֥וּ (And dwelt) שָׂרֵֽי־ (the leaders) הָעָ֖ם (of the people) בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (in Jerusalem), וּשְׁאָ֣ר (and the rest) הָ֠עָם (of the people) הִפִּ֨ילוּ (caused to fall) גוֹרָל֜וֹת (lots) לְהָבִ֣יא׀ (to bring) אֶחָ֣ד (one) מִן־ (out) הָעֲשָׂרָ֗ה (of ten) לָשֶׁ֙בֶת֙ (to dwell) בִּֽירוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ (in Jerusalem), עִ֣יר (city) הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ (the holy), וְתֵ֥שַׁע (and nine) הַיָּד֖וֹת (hands) בֶּעָרִֽים׃ (in the cities). 2  וַֽיְבָרֲכ֖וּ (And gave a blessing) הָעָ֑ם (the people) לְכֹל֙ (to all) הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים (the men) הַמִּֽתְנַדְּבִ֔ים (who freely offered) לָשֶׁ֖בֶת (to dwell) בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃פ (in Jerusalem).

3  וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ (And these are) רָאשֵׁ֣י (the heads) הַמְּדִינָ֔ה (of the province) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) יָשְׁב֖וּ (dwelt) בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (in Jerusalem), וּבְעָרֵ֣י (and in the cities) יְהוּדָ֗ה (of Judah) יָֽשְׁב֞וּ (they dwelt) אִ֤ישׁ (each man) בַּאֲחֻזָּתוֹ֙ (on his property) בְּעָ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם (in their cities)— יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל (Israel), הַכֹּהֲנִים֙ (the priests), וְהַלְוִיִּ֣ם (and the Levites), וְהַנְּתִינִ֔ים (and the Nethinim), וּבְנֵ֖י (and the sons) עַבְדֵ֥י (of the servants) שְׁלֹמֹֽה׃ (of Solomon)— 4  וּבִֽירוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ (and in Jerusalem) יָֽשְׁב֔וּ (some dwelt) מִבְּנֵ֥י (from the sons) יְהוּדָ֖ה (of Judah) וּמִבְּנֵ֣י (and from the sons) בִנְיָמִ֑ן (of Benjamin).

מִבְּנֵ֣י (From the sons) יְ֠הוּדָה (of Judah):

עֲתָיָ֨ה (Athaiah) בֶן־ (son) עֻזִּיָּ֜ה (of Uzziah), בֶּן־ (son) זְכַרְיָ֧ה (of Zechariah), בֶן־ (son) אֲמַרְיָ֛ה (of Amariah), בֶּן־ (son) שְׁפַטְיָ֥ה (of Shephatiah), בֶן־ (son) מַהֲלַלְאֵ֖ל (of Mahalalel), מִבְּנֵי־ (from the sons) פָֽרֶץ׃ (of Pere z); 5  וּמַעֲשֵׂיָ֣ה (and Maaseiah) בֶן־ (son) בָּר֣וּךְ (of Baruch), בֶּן־ (son) כָּל־ (of Col-) חֹ֠זֶה (hozeh), בֶּן־ (son) חֲזָיָ֨ה (of Hazaiah), בֶן־ (son) עֲדָיָ֧ה (of Adaiah), בֶן־ (son) יוֹיָרִ֛יב (of Joiarib), בֶּן־ (son) זְכַרְיָ֖ה (of Zechariah), בֶּן־ (son) הַשִּׁלֹנִֽי׃ (of the Shilonite). 6  כָּל־ (All) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) פֶ֕רֶץ (of Perez) הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים (who dwelt) בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (in Jerusalem) אַרְבַּ֥ע (were four) מֵא֛וֹת (hundred) שִׁשִּׁ֥ים (sixty) וּשְׁמֹנָ֖ה (and eight) אַנְשֵׁי־ (men) חָֽיִל׃ס (of valor).

7  וְאֵ֖לֶּה (And these are) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) בִנְיָמִ֑ן (of Benjamin):

סַלֻּ֡א (Sallu) בֶּן־ (son) מְשֻׁלָּ֡ם (of Meshullam), בֶּן־ (son) יוֹעֵ֡ד (of Joed), בֶּן־ (son) פְּדָיָה֩ (of Pedaiah), בֶן־ (son) ק֨וֹלָיָ֧ה (of Kolaiah), בֶן־ (son) מַעֲשֵׂיָ֛ה (of Maaseiah), בֶּן־ (son) אִֽיתִיאֵ֖ל (of Ithiel), בֶּן־ (son) יְשַֽׁעְיָֽה׃ (of Jeshaiah). 8  וְאַחֲרָ֖יו (And after him) גַּבַּ֣י (Gabbai) סַלָּ֑י (and Sallu)— תְּשַׁ֥ע (nine) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) עֶשְׂרִ֥ים (twenty) וּשְׁמֹנָֽה׃ (and eight). 9  וְיוֹאֵ֥ל (And Joel) בֶּן־ (son) זִכְרִ֖י (of Zichri) פָּקִ֣יד (the officer) עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם (over them), וִיהוּדָ֧ה (and Judah) בֶן־ (son) הַסְּנוּאָ֛ה (of Hassenuah) עַל־ (was over) הָעִ֖יר (of the city) מִשְׁנֶֽה׃פ (the Mishneh).

10  מִן־ (From) הַֽכֹּהֲנִ֑ים (the priests):

יְדַֽעְיָ֥ה (Jedaiah) בֶן־ (son) יוֹיָרִ֖יב (of Joiarib); יָכִֽין׃ (Jachin); 11  שְׂרָיָ֨ה (Seraiah) בֶן־ (son) חִלְקִיָּ֜ה (of Hilkiah), בֶּן־ (son) מְשֻׁלָּ֣ם (of Meshullam), בֶּן־ (son) צָד֗וֹק (of Zadok), בֶּן־ (son) מְרָיוֹת֙ (of Meraioth), בֶּן־ (son) אֲחִיט֔וּב (of Ahitub), נְגִ֖ד (leader) בֵּ֥ית (of the house) הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ (of God). 12  וַאֲחֵיהֶ֗ם (And their brothers) עֹשֵׂ֤י (doing) הַמְּלָאכָה֙ (the work) לַבַּ֔יִת (for the house)— שְׁמֹנֶ֥ה (eight) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) עֶשְׂרִ֣ים (twenty) וּשְׁנָ֑יִם (and two);

וַ֠עֲדָיָה (and Adaiah) בֶּן־ (son) יְרֹחָ֤ם (of Jeroham), בֶּן־ (son) פְּלַלְיָה֙ (of Pelaliah), בֶּן־ (son) אַמְצִ֣י (of Amzi), בֶן־ (son) זְכַרְיָ֔ה (of Zechariah), בֶּן־ (son) פַּשְׁח֖וּר (of Pashhur), בֶּן־ (son) מַלְכִּיָּֽה׃ (of Malchijah), 13  וְאֶחָיו֙ (and his brothers), רָאשִׁ֣ים (the heads) לְאָב֔וֹת (of fathers)— מָאתַ֖יִם (two hundred) אַרְבָּעִ֣ים (forty) וּשְׁנָ֑יִם (and two);

וַעֲמַשְׁסַ֧י (and Amashai) בֶּן־ (son) עֲזַרְאֵ֛ל (of Azarel), בֶּן־ (son) אַחְזַ֥י (of Ahzai), בֶּן־ (son) מְשִׁלֵּמ֖וֹת (of Meshillemoth), בֶּן־ (son) אִמֵּֽר׃ (of Immer), 14  וַאֲחֵיהֶם֙ (and their brothers), גִּבּ֣וֹרֵי (mighty men) חַ֔יִל (of valor)— מֵאָ֖ה (a hundred) עֶשְׂרִ֣ים (twenty) וּשְׁמֹנָ֑ה (and eight). וּפָקִ֣יד (And the officer) עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם (over them) זַבְדִּיאֵ֖ל (was Zabdiel) בֶּן־ (son) הַגְּדוֹלִֽים׃ס (of Haggedolim).

15  וּמִֽן־ (And from) הַלְוִיִּ֑ם (the Levites):

שְׁמַעְיָ֧ה (Shemaiah) בֶן־ (son) חַשּׁ֛וּב (of Hasshub), בֶּן־ (son) עַזְרִיקָ֥ם (of Azrikam), בֶּן־ (son) חֲשַׁבְיָ֖ה (of Hashabiah), בֶּן־ (son) בּוּנִּֽי׃ (of Bunni); 16  וְשַׁבְּתַ֨י (and Shabbethai) וְיוֹזָבָ֜ד (and Jozabad), עַל־ (were over) הַמְּלָאכָ֤ה (the work) הַחִֽיצֹנָה֙ (outside) לְבֵ֣ית (for the house) הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים (of God), מֵרָאשֵׁ֖י (from the heads) הַלְוִיִּֽם׃ (of the Levites), 17  וּמַתַּנְיָ֣ה (and Mattaniah) בֶן־ (son) מִ֠יכָה (of Micah), בֶּן־ (son) זַבְדִּ֨י (of Zabdi), בֶן־ (son) אָסָ֜ף (of Asaph), רֹ֗אשׁ (the head) הַתְּחִלָּה֙ (of the beginning words)— יְהוֹדֶ֣ה (who gives thanks) לַתְּפִלָּ֔ה (in prayer)— וּבַקְבֻּקְיָ֖ה (and Bakbukiah) מִשְׁנֶ֣ה (the second) מֵאֶחָ֑יו (among his brothers), וְעַבְדָּא֙ (and Abda) בֶּן־ (son) שַׁמּ֔וּעַ (of Shammua), בֶּן־ (son) גָּלָ֖ל (of Galal), בֶּן־ (son) יְדִיתוּן׃ (of Jeduthun). 18  כָּל־ (All) הַלְוִיִּם֙ (the Levites) בְּעִ֣יר (in the city) הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ (holy were) מָאתַ֖יִם (two hundred) שְׁמֹנִ֥ים (eighty) וְאַרְבָּעָֽה׃פ (and four).

19  וְהַשּֽׁוֹעֲרִים֙ (And the gatekeepers):

עַקּ֣וּב (Akkub), טַלְמ֔וֹן (Talmon), וַאֲחֵיהֶ֖ם (and their brothers), הַשֹּׁמְרִ֣ים (those watching) בַּשְּׁעָרִ֑ים (at the gates)— מֵאָ֖ה (a hundred) שִׁבְעִ֥ים (seventy) וּשְׁנָֽיִם׃ (and two).

Residents outside Jerusalem

20  וּשְׁאָ֨ר (And the rest) יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל (of Israel), הַכֹּהֲנִ֤ים (the priests) הַלְוִיִּם֙ (and the Levites), בְּכָל־ (were in all) עָרֵ֣י (the cities) יְהוּדָ֔ה (of Judah), אִ֖ישׁ (each man) בְּנַחֲלָתֽוֹ׃ (in his inheritance). 21  וְהַנְּתִינִ֖ים (And the Nethinim) יֹשְׁבִ֣ים (dwelt) בָּעֹ֑פֶל (in Ophel), וְצִיחָ֥א (and Ziha) וְגִשְׁפָּ֖א (and Gishpa) עַל־ (were over) הַנְּתִינִֽים׃פ (the Nethinim).

22  וּפְקִ֤יד (And the overseer) הַלְוִיִּם֙ (of the Levites) בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם (in Jerusalem) עֻזִּ֤י (was Uzzi) בֶן־ (son) בָּנִי֙ (of Bani), בֶּן־ (son) חֲשַׁבְיָ֔ה (of Hashabiah), בֶּן־ (son) מַתַּנְיָ֖ה (of Mattaniah), בֶּן־ (son) מִיכָ֑א (of Mica). מִבְּנֵ֤י (From the sons) אָסָף֙ (of Asaph)— הַמְשֹׁ֣רְרִ֔ים (the singers) לְנֶ֖גֶד (who were over) מְלֶ֥אכֶת (the work) בֵּית־ (of the house) הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ (of God). 23  כִּֽי־ (For) מִצְוַ֥ת (the commandment) הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (of the king) עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם (was upon them) וַאֲמָנָ֥ה (and a fixed portion) עַל־ (for) הַמְשֹׁרְרִ֖ים (those singing), דְּבַר־ (was a matter) י֥וֹם (of a day) בְּיוֹמֽוֹ׃ (in its day). 24  וּפְתַֽחְיָ֨ה (And Pethahiah) בֶּן־ (son) מְשֵֽׁיזַבְאֵ֜ל (of Meshezabel), מִבְּנֵי־ (from the sons) זֶ֤רַח (of Zerah) בֶּן־ (son) יְהוּדָה֙ (of Judah), לְיַ֣ד (was at the hand) הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ (of the king) לְכָל־ (for every) דָּבָ֖ר (matter) לָעָֽם׃ (for the people).

25  וְאֶל־ (And for) הַחֲצֵרִ֖ים (the villages) בִּשְׂדֹתָ֑ם (with their fields), מִבְּנֵ֣י (some from the sons) יְהוּדָ֗ה (of Judah) יָֽשְׁב֞וּ (dwelt) בְּקִרְיַ֤ת (in Kiriath-) הָֽאַרְבַּע֙ (arba), וּבְנֹתֶ֔יהָ (and its villages) וּבְדִיבֹן֙ (and in Dibon), וּבְנֹתֶ֔יהָ (and its villages) וּבִֽיקַּבְצְאֵ֖ל (and in Jekabzeel), וַחֲצֵרֶֽיהָ׃ (and its villages). 26  וּבְיֵשׁ֥וּעַ (And in Jeshua), וּבְמוֹלָדָ֖ה (and in Moladah), וּבְבֵ֥ית (and in Beth-) פָּֽלֶט׃ (pelet), 27  וּבַחֲצַ֥ר (and in Hazar-) שׁוּעָ֛ל (shual), וּבִבְאֵ֥ר (and in Beer-) שֶׁ֖בַע (sheba), וּבְנֹתֶֽיהָ׃ (and its villages). 28  וּבְצִֽקְלַ֥ג (And in Ziklag), וּבִמְכֹנָ֖ה (and in Mekonah), וּבִבְנֹתֶֽיהָ׃ (and in its villages). 29  וּבְעֵ֥ין (And in En-) רִמּ֛וֹן (rimmon), וּבְצָרְעָ֖ה (and in Zorah), וּבְיַרְמֽוּת׃ (and in Jarmuth), 30  זָנֹ֤חַ (Zanoah), עֲדֻלָּם֙ (Adullam), וְחַצְרֵיהֶ֔ם (and their villages), לָכִישׁ֙ (in Lachish) וּשְׂדֹתֶ֔יהָ (and its fields), עֲזֵקָ֖ה (in Azekah) וּבְנֹתֶ֑יהָ (and its villages). וַיַּחֲנ֥וּ (And they dwelt) מִבְּאֵֽר־ (from Beer-) שֶׁ֖בַע (sheba) עַד־ (to) גֵּֽיא־ (the Valley) הִנֹּֽם׃ (of Hinnom).

31  וּבְנֵ֥י (And the sons) בִנְיָמִ֖ן (of Benjamin) מִגָּ֑בַע (from Geba) מִכְמָ֣שׂ (Michmash), וְעַיָּ֔ה (and Aija), וּבֵֽית־ (and Beth-) אֵ֖ל (el) וּבְנֹתֶֽיהָ׃ (and its villages), 32  עֲנָת֥וֹת (Anathoth), נֹ֖ב (Nob), עֲנָֽנְיָֽה׃ (Ananiah), 33  חָצ֥וֹר׀ (Hazor), רָמָ֖ה (Ramah), גִּתָּֽיִם׃ (Gittaim), 34  חָדִ֥יד (Hadid), צְבֹעִ֖ים (Zeboim), נְבַלָּֽט׃ (Neballat), 35  לֹ֥ד (Lod), וְאוֹנ֖וֹ (and Ono), גֵּ֥י (and in Ge-) הַחֲרָשִֽׁים׃ (harashim).

36  וּמִן־ (And some from) הַלְוִיִּ֔ם (the Levites), מַחְלְק֥וֹת (divisions) יְהוּדָ֖ה (in Judah), לְבִנְיָמִֽין׃פ (were assigned to Benjamin).
