Trust in Yahweh with All Your Heart

1  בְּ֭נִי (My son), תּוֹרָתִ֣י (my instruction) אַל־ (do not) תִּשְׁכָּ֑ח (forget),

וּ֝מִצְוֺתַ֗י (and my commands) יִצֹּ֥ר (let keep) לִבֶּֽךָ׃ (your heart).

2  כִּ֤י (For) אֹ֣רֶךְ (length) יָ֭מִים (of days) וּשְׁנ֣וֹת (and years), חַיִּ֑ים (of life) וְ֝שָׁל֗וֹם (and peace)

יוֹסִ֥יפוּ (they will add) לָֽךְ׃ (to you).

3  חֶ֥סֶד (Loving devotion) וֶאֱמֶ֗ת (and faithfulness) אַֽל־ (do not) יַעַ֫זְבֻ֥ךָ (let forsake you);

קָשְׁרֵ֥ם (bind them) עַל־ (around) גַּרְגְּרוֹתֶ֑יךָ (your neck);

כָּ֝תְבֵ֗ם (write them) עַל־ (on) ל֥וּחַ (the tablet) לִבֶּֽךָ׃ (of your heart),

4  וּמְצָא־ (and you will find) חֵ֖ן (favor) וְשֵֽׂכֶל־ (and understanding) ט֑וֹב (good)

בְּעֵינֵ֖י (in the eyes) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (of God) וְאָדָֽם׃פ (and man).

5  בְּטַ֣ח (Put your trust) אֶל־ (unto) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) בְּכָל־ (with all) לִבֶּ֑ךָ (your heart),

וְאֶל־ (and unto) בִּֽ֝ינָתְךָ֗ (your own understanding) אַל־ (not) תִּשָּׁעֵֽן׃ (and lean).

6  בְּכָל־ (In all) דְּרָכֶ֥יךָ (your ways) דָעֵ֑הוּ (acknowledge Him),

וְ֝ה֗וּא (and He) יְיַשֵּׁ֥ר (will make straight) אֹֽרְחֹתֶֽיךָ׃ (your paths).

7  אַל־ (Not) תְּהִ֣י (shall you be) חָכָ֣ם (wise) בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ (in your own eyes);

יְרָ֥א (fear) אֶת־ (-) יְ֝הוָ֗ה (YHWH) וְס֣וּר (and turn away) מֵרָֽע׃ (from evil)—

8  רִ֭פְאוּת (healing) תְּהִ֣י (it will be) לְשָׁרֶּ֑ךָ (to your navel),

וְ֝שִׁקּ֗וּי (and refreshment) לְעַצְמוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ (to your bones).

9  כַּבֵּ֣ד (Honor) אֶת־ (-) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) מֵהוֹנֶ֑ךָ (from your wealth),

וּ֝מֵרֵאשִׁ֗ית (and from the first) כָּל־ (of all) תְּבוּאָתֶֽךָ׃ (your produce),

10  וְיִמָּלְא֣וּ (and will be filled) אֲסָמֶ֣יךָ (your barns) שָׂבָ֑ע (with plenty)

וְ֝תִיר֗וֹשׁ (and with new wine) יְקָבֶ֥יךָ (your vats) יִפְרֹֽצוּ׃פ (will overflow).

11  מוּסַ֣ר (The discipline) יְ֭הוָה (of YHWH), בְּנִ֣י (my son), אַל־ (do not) תִּמְאָ֑ס (despise),

וְאַל־ (and not) תָּ֝קֹ֗ץ (be grieved) בְּתוֹכַחְתּֽוֹ׃ (by His reproof),

12  כִּ֤י (for) אֶ֥ת (-) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) יֶאֱהַ֣ב (loves) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) יוֹכִ֑יחַ (He reproves)

וּ֝כְאָ֗ב (and as a father) אֶת־ (-) בֵּ֥ן (the son) יִרְצֶֽה׃ (he is pleased with).

The Blessings of Wisdom

13  אַשְׁרֵ֣י (Blessed is) אָ֭דָם (the man) מָצָ֣א (who has found) חָכְמָ֑ה (wisdom),

וְ֝אָדָ֗ם (and the man) יָפִ֥יק (who brings forth) תְּבוּנָֽה׃ (understanding).

14  כִּ֤י (For) ט֣וֹב (better is) סַ֭חְרָהּ (the profit from her) מִסְּחַר־ (than profits) כָּ֑סֶף (of silver),

וּ֝מֵחָר֗וּץ (and than fine gold) תְּבוּאָתָֽהּ׃ (her produce).

15  יְקָ֣רָה (Precious) הִ֭יא (she is) מִפְּנִיִּים (above rubies),

וְכָל־ (and all) חֲ֝פָצֶ֗יךָ (your delights) לֹ֣א (not) יִֽשְׁווּ־ (do compare) בָֽהּ׃ (with her).

16  אֹ֣רֶךְ (Length) יָ֭מִים (of days) בִּֽימִינָ֑הּ (is in her right hand);

בִּ֝שְׂמֹאולָ֗הּ (and in her left hand) עֹ֣שֶׁר (are wealth) וְכָבֽוֹד׃ (and honor).

17  דְּרָכֶ֥יהָ (Her ways) דַרְכֵי־ (are ways) נֹ֑עַם (of pleasantness),

וְֽכָל־ (and all) נְתִ֖יבוֹתֶ֣יהָ (her paths) שָׁלֽוֹם׃ (are peace).

18  עֵץ־ (A tree) חַיִּ֣ים (of life) הִ֭יא (she is) לַמַּחֲזִיקִ֣ים (to those taking hold) בָּ֑הּ (on her),

וְֽתֹמְכֶ֥יהָ (and those grasping her) מְאֻשָּֽׁר׃פ (are blessed).

19  יְֽהוָ֗ה (YHWH) בְּחָכְמָ֥ה (by wisdom) יָֽסַד־ (founded) אָ֑רֶץ (the earth);

כּוֹנֵ֥ן (He established) שָׁ֝מַ֗יִם (the heavens) בִּתְבוּנָֽה׃ (by understanding).

20  בְּ֭דַעְתּוֹ (By His knowledge) תְּהוֹמ֣וֹת (the depths) נִבְקָ֑עוּ (have been broken up),

וּ֝שְׁחָקִ֗ים (and the clouds) יִרְעֲפוּ־ (dripped) טָֽל׃ (dew).

21  בְּ֭נִי (My son), אַל־ (not) יָלֻ֣זוּ (do let them depart) מֵעֵינֶ֑יךָ (from your eyes);

נְצֹ֥ר (keep watch over) תֻּ֝שִׁיָּ֗ה (wisdom) וּמְזִמָּֽה׃ (and discretion),

22  וְיִֽהְי֣וּ (and they will be) חַיִּ֣ים (life) לְנַפְשֶׁ֑ךָ (for your soul)

וְ֝חֵ֗ן (and grace) לְגַרְגְּרֹתֶֽיךָ׃ (for your neck).

23  אָ֤ז (Then) תֵּלֵ֣ךְ (you will walk) לָבֶ֣טַח (in safety) דַּרְכֶּ֑ךָ (your way),

וְ֝רַגְלְךָ֗ (and your foot) לֹ֣א (not) תִגּֽוֹף׃ (will stumble).

24  אִם־ (If) תִּשְׁכַּ֥ב (you lie down), לֹֽא־ (not) תִפְחָ֑ד (will you dread),

וְ֝שָׁכַבְתָּ֗ (and you have lain down) וְֽעָרְבָ֥ה (and shall be pleasant) שְׁנָתֶֽךָ׃ (your sleep).

25  אַל־ (Not) תִּ֭ירָא (do be afraid) מִפַּ֣חַד (from dread) פִּתְאֹ֑ם (sudden)

וּמִשֹּׁאַ֥ת (and from the desolation) רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים (of the wicked) כִּ֣י (when) תָבֹֽא׃ (it comes).

26  כִּֽי־ (For) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) יִהְיֶ֣ה (is) בְכִסְלֶ֑ךָ (at your flank),

וְשָׁמַ֖ר (and He will guard) רַגְלְךָ֣ (your foot) מִלָּֽכֶד׃ (from capture).

27  אַל־ (Not) תִּמְנַע־ (do withhold) ט֥וֹב (good) מִבְּעָלָ֑יו (from its owners),

בִּהְי֨וֹת (in it being) לְאֵ֖ל (in the power) יָדֶיךָ (of your hand) לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ (to act).

28  אַל־ (Not) תֹּ֘אמַ֤ר (should you say) לְרֵעֶיךָ (to your neighbor),

לֵ֣ךְ (Go) וָ֭שׁוּב (and return), וּמָחָ֥ר (and tomorrow) אֶתֵּ֗ן (I will give)”

וְיֵ֣שׁ (and it is) אִתָּֽךְ׃ (with you).

29  אַל־ (Do not) תַּחֲרֹ֣שׁ (devise) עַל־ (against) רֵעֲךָ֣ (your neighbor) רָעָ֑ה (evil),

וְהֽוּא־ (for he) יוֹשֵׁ֖ב (is dwelling) לָבֶ֣טַח (in trust) אִתָּֽךְ׃ (with you).

30  אַל־ (Do not) תָּרוֹב (strive) עִם־ (with) אָדָ֣ם (a man) חִנָּ֑ם (without cause),

אִם־ (if) לֹ֖א (not) גְמָלְךָ֣ (he has dealt with you) רָעָֽה׃ (for evil).

31  אַל־ (Not) תְּ֭קַנֵּא (be envious) בְּאִ֣ישׁ (of a man) חָמָ֑ס (of violence),

וְאַל־ (and not) תִּ֝בְחַ֗ר (do choose) בְּכָל־ (any) דְּרָכָֽיו׃ (of his ways).

32  כִּ֤י (For) תוֹעֲבַ֣ת (is an abomination) יְהוָ֣ה (to YHWH) נָל֑וֹז (a perverse one), וְֽאֶת־ (and with)

יְשָׁרִ֥ים (the upright) סוֹדֽוֹ׃ (is His secret counsel).

33  מְאֵרַ֣ת (The curse) יְ֭הוָה (of YHWH) בְּבֵ֣ית (is on the house) רָשָׁ֑ע (of the wicked one),

וּנְוֵ֖ה (and the abode) צַדִּיקִ֣ים (of the righteous) יְבָרֵֽךְ׃ (He blesses).

34  אִם־ (If) לַלֵּצִ֥ים (at those mocking) הֽוּא־ (He) יָלִ֑יץ (mocks);

וְלַעֲנִיִּים (and to the humble) יִתֶּן־ (He gives) חֵֽן׃ (favor).

35  כָּ֭בוֹד (Honor) חֲכָמִ֣ים (the wise) יִנְחָ֑לוּ (will inherit),

וּ֝כְסִילִ֗ים (and fools) מֵרִ֥ים (are held up) קָלֽוֹן׃פ (to disgrace).
