1  אָ֚ז (Then) יִקְרָ֣א (called) יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ (Joshua) לָרֽאוּבֵנִ֖י (the Reubenite) וְלַגָּדִ֑י (and the Gadite) וְלַחֲצִ֖י (and half) מַטֵּ֥ה (the tribe) מְנַשֶּֽׁה׃ (of Manasseh), 2  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (and he said) אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם (to them), אַתֶּ֣ם (You⁺) שְׁמַרְתֶּ֔ם (have kept) אֵ֚ת (-) כָּל־ (all) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) צִוָּ֣ה (commanded) אֶתְכֶ֔ם (you⁺) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) עֶ֣בֶד (the servant) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), וַתִּשְׁמְע֣וּ (and you⁺ have listened) בְקוֹלִ֔י (to my voice) לְכֹ֥ל (in all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) צִוִּ֖יתִי (I commanded) אֶתְכֶֽם׃ (you⁺). 3  לֹֽא־ (Not) עֲזַבְתֶּ֣ם (you⁺ have left) אֶת־ (-) אֲחֵיכֶ֗ם (your⁺ brothers) זֶ֚ה (these) יָמִ֣ים (days) רַבִּ֔ים (many) עַ֖ד (up to) הַיּ֣וֹם (the day) הַזֶּ֑ה (this), וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֕ם (and you⁺ have kept) אֶת־ (-) מִשְׁמֶ֕רֶת (the charge) מִצְוַ֖ת (of the commandment) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃ (your⁺ God).

4  וְעַתָּ֗ה (And) הֵנִ֨יחַ (has given rest) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ (your⁺ God) לַֽאֲחֵיכֶ֔ם (to your⁺ brothers) כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) דִּבֶּ֣ר (He promised) לָהֶ֑ם (to them), וְעַתָּ֡ה (and now) פְּנוּ֩ (return) וּלְכ֨וּ (and go) לָכֶ֜ם (for yourselves) לְאָהֳלֵיכֶ֗ם (to your⁺ tents) אֶל־ (and to) אֶ֙רֶץ֙ (the land) אֲחֻזַּתְכֶ֔ם (of your⁺ possession), אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ (which) נָתַ֣ן (gave) לָכֶ֗ם (to you⁺) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) עֶ֣בֶד (the servant) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) בְּעֵ֖בֶר (on the other side) הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ (of the Jordan). 5  רַ֣ק׀ (Only) שִׁמְר֣וּ (take heed) מְאֹ֗ד (greatly) לַעֲשׂ֨וֹת (to do) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּצְוָ֣ה (the commandment) וְאֶת־ (and) הַתּוֹרָה֮ (the law) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) צִוָּ֣ה (commanded) אֶתְכֶם֮ (you⁺) מֹשֶׁ֣ה (Moses) עֶֽבֶד־ (the servant) יְהוָה֒ (of YHWH), לְ֠אַהֲבָה (to love) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH) אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֜ם (your⁺ God), וְלָלֶ֧כֶת (and to walk) בְּכָל־ (in all) דְּרָכָ֛יו (His ways), וְלִשְׁמֹ֥ר (and to keep) מִצְוֺתָ֖יו (His commandments), וּלְדָבְקָה־ (and to hold fast) ב֑וֹ (to Him), וּלְעָבְד֕וֹ (and to serve Him) בְּכָל־ (with all) לְבַבְכֶ֖ם (your⁺ heart) וּבְכָל־ (and with all) נַפְשְׁכֶֽם׃ (your⁺ soul).

6  וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖ם (And blessed them) יְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ (Joshua) וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵ֔ם (and sent them away), וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ (and they went) אֶל־ (to) אָהֳלֵיהֶֽם׃ס (their tents). 7  וְלַחֲצִ֣י׀ (And to the half) שֵׁ֣בֶט (tribe) הַֽמְנַשֶּׁ֗ה (of Manasseh) נָתַ֣ן (had given a possession) מֹשֶׁה֮ (Moses) בַּבָּשָׁן֒ (in Bashan), וּלְחֶצְי֗וֹ (and to half of it) נָתַ֤ן (had given) יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ (Joshua) עִם־ (among) אֲחֵיהֶ֔ם (their brothers) מֵעֵבֶר (on this side) הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן (of the Jordan) יָ֑מָּה (westward). וְ֠גַם (And indeed) כִּ֣י (when) שִׁלְּחָ֧ם (sent them away) יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ (Joshua) אֶל־ (to) אָהֳלֵיהֶ֖ם (their tents), וַיְבָרֲכֵֽם׃ (and he blessed them) 8  וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (and spoke) אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם (to them), לֵאמֹ֗ר (saying), בִּנְכָסִ֨ים (With riches) רַבִּ֜ים (great) שׁ֤וּבוּ (return) אֶל־ (to) אָֽהֳלֵיכֶם֙ (your⁺ tents), וּבְמִקְנֶ֣ה (and with livestock) רַב־ (much) מְאֹ֔ד (very), בְּכֶ֨סֶף (with silver), וּבְזָהָ֜ב (and with gold), וּבִנְחֹ֧שֶׁת (and with bronze), וּבְבַרְזֶ֛ל (and with iron), וּבִשְׂלָמ֖וֹת (and with clothing) הַרְבֵּ֣ה (much) מְאֹ֑ד (very). חִלְק֥וּ (Divide) שְׁלַל־ (the spoil) אֹיְבֵיכֶ֖ם (of your⁺ enemies) עִם־ (with) אֲחֵיכֶֽם׃פ (your⁺ brothers).

The Altar of Witness

9  וַיָּשֻׁ֣בוּ (And turned back) וַיֵּלְכ֡וּ (and departed) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵ֨ן (of Reuben) וּבְנֵי־ (and the sons) גָ֜ד (of Gad) וַחֲצִ֣י׀ (and the half-) שֵׁ֣בֶט (tribe) הַֽמְנַשֶּׁ֗ה (of Manasseh) מֵאֵת֙ (from) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) מִשִּׁלֹ֖ה (at Shiloh) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which is) בְּאֶֽרֶץ־ (in the land) כְּנָ֑עַן (of Canaan), לָלֶ֜כֶת (to go) אֶל־ (to) אֶ֣רֶץ (the country) הַגִּלְעָ֗ד (of Gilead), אֶל־ (to) אֶ֤רֶץ (the land) אֲחֻזָּתָם֙ (of their possession) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which) נֹֽאחֲזוּ־ (had acquired) בָ֔הּ (they) עַל־ (according to) פִּ֥י (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) בְּיַד־ (by the hand) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (of Moses). 10  וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ (And they came) אֶל־ (to) גְּלִיל֣וֹת (Geliloth) הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן (near the Jordan), אֲשֶׁ֖ר (which is) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) כְּנָ֑עַן (of Canaan), וַיִּבְנ֣וּ (and built) בְנֵי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵ֣ן (of Reuben) וּבְנֵי־ (and the sons) גָ֡ד (of Gad) וַחֲצִ֣י (and half) שֵׁבֶט֩ (the tribe) הַֽמְנַשֶּׁ֨ה (of Manasseh) שָׁ֤ם (there) מִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ (an altar) עַל־ (by) הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן (the Jordan), מִזְבֵּ֥חַ (an altar) גָּד֖וֹל (great) לְמַרְאֶֽה׃ (in appearance).

11  וַיִּשְׁמְע֥וּ (And heard) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) לֵאמֹ֑ר (it said), הִנֵּ֣ה (Behold), בָנ֣וּ (have built) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵ֣ן (of Reuben) וּבְנֵי־ (and the sons) גָ֡ד (of Gad) וַחֲצִי֩ (and the half-) שֵׁ֨בֶט (tribe) הַֽמְנַשֶּׁ֜ה (of Manasseh) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּזְבֵּ֗חַ (the altar) אֶל־ (over against) מוּל֙ (the border) אֶ֣רֶץ (of the land) כְּנַ֔עַן (of Canaan) אֶל־ (in) גְּלִילוֹת֙ (the region) הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן (of the Jordan) אֶל־ (on) עֵ֖בֶר (the side) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 12  וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֖וּ (And heard) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel) וַיִּקָּ֨הֲל֜וּ (and gathered together) כָּל־ (the whole) עֲדַ֤ת (congregation) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) שִׁלֹ֔ה (at Shiloh) לַעֲל֥וֹת (to go) עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם (against them) לַצָּבָֽא׃פ (to war).

13  וַיִּשְׁלְח֨וּ (And sent) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל (of Israel) אֶל־ (to) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵ֧ן (of Reuben), וְאֶל־ (and to) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) גָ֛ד (of Gad), וְאֶל־ (and to) חֲצִ֥י (the half) שֵֽׁבֶט־ (tribe) מְנַשֶּׁ֖ה (of Manasseh), אֶל־ (into) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) הַגִּלְעָ֑ד (of Gilead), אֶת־ (-) פִּינְחָ֖ס (Phinehas) בֶּן־ (son) אֶלְעָזָ֥ר (of Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵֽן׃ (the priest), 14  וַעֲשָׂרָ֤ה (and ten) נְשִׂאִים֙ (leaders) עִמּ֔וֹ (with him), נָשִׂ֨יא (leader) אֶחָ֜ד (one) נָשִׂ֤יא (leader) אֶחָד֙ (one) לְבֵ֣ית (from the house) אָ֔ב (of a father) לְכֹ֖ל (of every) מַטּ֣וֹת (tribe) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel); וְאִ֨ישׁ (and each one) רֹ֧אשׁ (the head) בֵּית־ (of the house) אֲבוֹתָ֛ם (of his father) הֵ֖מָּה (was) לְאַלְפֵ֥י (among the divisions) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel).

15  וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ (And they came) אֶל־ (to) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵ֧ן (of Reuben), וְאֶל־ (and to) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) גָ֛ד (of Gad), וְאֶל־ (and to) חֲצִ֥י (half) שֵֽׁבֶט־ (the tribe) מְנַשֶּׁ֖ה (of Manasseh), אֶל־ (to) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) הַגִּלְעָ֑ד (of Gilead), וַיְדַבְּר֥וּ (and they spoke) אִתָּ֖ם (with them), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 16  כֹּ֣ה (Thus) אָמְר֞וּ (says) כֹּ֣ל׀ (whole) עֲדַ֣ת (the congregation) יְהוָ֗ה (of YHWH): מָֽה־ (What is) הַמַּ֤עַל (the treachery) הַזֶּה֙ (this) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) מְעַלְתֶּם֙ (you⁺ have committed) בֵּאלֹהֵ֣י (against the God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), לָשׁ֣וּב (to turn away) הַיּ֔וֹם (this day) מֵאַחֲרֵ֖י (from following) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH), בִּבְנֽוֹתְכֶ֤ם (in that you⁺ have built) לָכֶם֙ (for yourselves) מִזְבֵּ֔חַ (an altar), לִמְרָדְכֶ֥ם (that you⁺ might rebel) הַיּ֖וֹם (this day) בַּיהוָֽה׃ (against YHWH)?

17  הַמְעַט־ (Is too little) לָ֙נוּ֙ (for us) אֶת־ (-) עֲוֺ֣ן (the iniquity) פְּע֔וֹר (of Peor) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (which) לֹֽא־ (not) הִטַּהַ֙רְנוּ֙ (we are cleansed) מִמֶּ֔נּוּ (from) עַ֖ד (until) הַיּ֣וֹם (the day) הַזֶּ֑ה (this)? וַיְהִ֥י (And there was) הַנֶּ֖גֶף (a plague) בַּעֲדַ֥ת (in the congregation) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 18  וְאַתֶּם֙ (And you⁺) תָּשֻׁ֣בוּ (turn away) הַיּ֔וֹם (this day) מֵאַחֲרֵ֖י (from following) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH)? וְהָיָ֗ה (And if it comes to pass that) אַתֶּ֞ם (you⁺) תִּמְרְד֤וּ (rebel) הַיּוֹם֙ (today) בַּֽיהוָ֔ה (against YHWH), וּמָחָ֕ר (and tomorrow) אֶֽל־ (with) כָּל־ (whole) עֲדַ֥ת (the congregation) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) יִקְצֹֽף׃ (He will be angry).

19  וְאַ֨ךְ (And nevertheless), אִם־ (if) טְמֵאָ֜ה (is unclean) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) אֲחֻזַּתְכֶ֗ם (of your⁺ possession), עִבְר֨וּ (then pass over) לָכֶ֜ם (to) אֶל־ (-) אֶ֨רֶץ (the land) אֲחֻזַּ֤ת (of the possession) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (where) שָֽׁכַן־ (stands) שָׁם֙ (-) מִשְׁכַּ֣ן (tabernacle) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), וְהֵאָחֲז֖וּ (and take possession) בְּתוֹכֵ֑נוּ (in our midst). וּבַֽיהוָ֣ה (And against YHWH) אַל־ (not) תִּמְרֹ֗דוּ (do rebel), וְאֹתָ֙נוּ֙ (and against us) אֶל־ (not) תִּמְרֹ֔דוּ (do rebel) בִּבְנֹֽתְכֶ֤ם (by building) לָכֶם֙ (for yourselves) מִזְבֵּ֔חַ (an altar), מִֽבַּלְעֲדֵ֔י (besides) מִזְבַּ֖ח (the altar) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ (our God).

20  הֲל֣וֹא׀ (Did not) עָכָ֣ן (Achan) בֶּן־ (son) זֶ֗רַח (of Zerah) מָ֤עַל (act unfaithfully) מַ֙עַל֙ (an unfaithfulness) בַּחֵ֔רֶם (with the devoted thing), וְעַֽל־ (so that upon) כָּל־ (all) עֲדַ֥ת (the congregation) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) הָ֣יָה (fell) קָ֑צֶף (wrath)? וְהוּא֙ (And he), אִ֣ישׁ (man) אֶחָ֔ד (one), לֹ֥א (not only) גָוַ֖ע (perished) בַּעֲוֺנֽוֹ׃פ (in his iniquity).

21  וַֽיַּעֲנוּ֙ (And answered) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵ֣ן (of Reuben) וּבְנֵי־ (and the sons) גָ֔ד (of Gad) וַחֲצִ֖י (and half) שֵׁ֣בֶט (the tribe) הַֽמְנַשֶּׁ֑ה (of Manasseh), וַֽיְדַבְּר֔וּ (and said) אֶת־ (to) רָאשֵׁ֖י (the heads) אַלְפֵ֥י (of the divisions) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel), 22  אֵל֩׀ (God) אֱלֹהִ֨ים׀ (of gods)— יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH), אֵ֣ל׀ (God) אֱלֹהִ֤ים׀ (of gods)— יְהוָה֙ (YHWH), ה֣וּא (He) יֹדֵ֔עַ (knows), וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (and Israel) ה֣וּא (He) יֵדָ֑ע (does know). אִם־ (If it is) בְּמֶ֤רֶד (in rebellion) וְאִם־ (or if) בְּמַ֙עַל֙ (in treachery) בַּֽיהוָ֔ה (against YHWH), אַל־ (not) תּוֹשִׁיעֵ֖נוּ (do You save us) הַיּ֥וֹם (the day) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this). 23  לִבְנ֥וֹת (If we have built) לָ֙נוּ֙ (for ourselves) מִזְבֵּ֔חַ (an altar) לָשׁ֖וּב (to turn) מֵאַחֲרֵ֣י (from following) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH), וְאִם־ (or if) לְהַעֲל֨וֹת (to offer) עָלָ֜יו (on it) עוֹלָ֣ה (burnt offerings) וּמִנְחָ֗ה (or grain offerings), וְאִם־ (or if) לַעֲשׂ֤וֹת (to offer) עָלָיו֙ (on it) זִבְחֵ֣י (offerings) שְׁלָמִ֔ים (peace), יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) ה֥וּא (Himself) יְבַקֵּֽשׁ׃ (will require it).

24  וְאִם־ (And if) לֹ֤א (not) מִדְּאָגָה֙ (from fear) מִדָּבָ֔ר (of this thing) עָשִׂ֥ינוּ (we have done it) אֶת־ (-) זֹ֖את (this), לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), מָחָ֗ר (hereafter) יֹאמְר֨וּ (may speak) בְנֵיכֶ֤ם (your⁺ sons) לְבָנֵ֙ינוּ֙ (to our), לֵאמֹ֔ר (seed saying), מַה־ (What) לָּכֶ֕ם (have you⁺ to do) וְלַֽיהוָ֖ה (and with YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֥י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel)? 25  וּגְב֣וּל (And for a border) נָֽתַן־ (has given) יְ֠הוָה (YHWH) בֵּינֵ֨נוּ (between us) וּבֵינֵיכֶ֜ם (and between you⁺), בְּנֵי־ (sons) רְאוּבֵ֤ן (of Reuben) וּבְנֵי־ (and sons) גָד֙ (of Gad), אֶת־ (-) הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן (the Jordan). אֵין־ (No) לָכֶ֥ם (to you⁺ is) חֵ֖לֶק (portion) בַּֽיהוָ֑ה (in YHWH). וְהִשְׁבִּ֤יתוּ (And would make cease) בְנֵיכֶם֙ (your⁺ sons) אֶת־ (-) בָּנֵ֔ינוּ (our sons) לְבִלְתִּ֖י (from) יְרֹ֥א (fearing) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

26  וַנֹּ֕אמֶר (And we said), נַעֲשֶׂה־ (Prepare) נָּ֣א (let us now) לָ֔נוּ (ourselves) לִבְנ֖וֹת (to build) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (the altar)— לֹ֥א (not) לְעוֹלָ֖ה (for burnt offering) וְלֹ֥א (and not) לְזָֽבַח׃ (for sacrifice)— 27  כִּי֩ (but that) עֵ֨ד (a witness) ה֜וּא (it may be) בֵּינֵ֣ינוּ (between us) וּבֵינֵיכֶ֗ם (and between you⁺) וּבֵ֣ין (and between) דֹּרוֹתֵינוּ֮ (our generations) אַחֲרֵינוּ֒ (after us), לַעֲבֹ֞ד (that we may perform) אֶת־ (-) עֲבֹדַ֤ת (the service) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH) לְפָנָ֔יו (before Him) בְּעֹלוֹתֵ֥ינוּ (with our burnt offerings), וּבִזְבָחֵ֖ינוּ (and with our sacrifices), וּבִשְׁלָמֵ֑ינוּ (and with our peace offerings), וְלֹא־ (that not) יֹאמְר֨וּ (may say) בְנֵיכֶ֤ם (your⁺ sons) מָחָר֙ (hereafter) לְבָנֵ֔ינוּ (to our sons), אֵין־ (No) לָכֶ֥ם (To you⁺ is) חֵ֖לֶק (portion) בַּיהוָֽה׃ (in YHWH).

28  וַנֹּ֕אמֶר (And we said), וְהָיָ֗ה (And it will come to pass), כִּֽי־ (when) יֹאמְר֥וּ (they say this) אֵלֵ֛ינוּ (to us) וְאֶל־ (or to) דֹּרֹתֵ֖ינוּ (our generations) מָחָ֑ר (hereafter), וְאָמַ֡רְנוּ (that we may say): רְא֣וּ (Here is) אֶת־ (-) תַּבְנִית֩ (the replica) מִזְבַּ֨ח (of the altar) יְהוָ֜ה (of YHWH), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) עָשׂ֣וּ (made) אֲבוֹתֵ֗ינוּ (our fathers), לֹ֤א (though not) לְעוֹלָה֙ (for burnt offerings) וְלֹ֣א (and not) לְזֶ֔בַח (for sacrifices), כִּי־ (but) עֵ֣ד (a witness) ה֔וּא (it is) בֵּינֵ֖ינוּ (between us) וּבֵינֵיכֶֽם׃ (and between you⁺).

29  חָלִילָה֩ (Far be it) לָּ֨נוּ (from us) מִמֶּ֜נּוּ (that we should) לִמְרֹ֣ד (rebel) בַּֽיהוָ֗ה (against YHWH) וְלָשׁ֤וּב (and turn) הַיּוֹם֙ (this day) מֵאַחֲרֵ֣י (from following) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) לִבְנ֣וֹת (to build) מִזְבֵּ֔חַ (an altar) לְעֹלָ֖ה (for burnt offerings), לְמִנְחָ֣ה (for grain offerings), וּלְזָ֑בַח (and for sacrifice), מִלְּבַ֗ד (besides) מִזְבַּח֙ (the altar) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ (our God) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (which is) לִפְנֵ֥י (before) מִשְׁכָּנֽוֹ׃פ (His tabernacle).

30  וַיִּשְׁמַ֞ע (And heard) פִּֽינְחָ֣ס (Phinehas) הַכֹּהֵ֗ן (the priest) וּנְשִׂיאֵ֨י (and the princes) הָעֵדָ֜ה (of the congregation) וְרָאשֵׁ֨י (and the heads) אַלְפֵ֤י (of the divisions) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who were) אִתּ֔וֹ (with him) אֶת־ (-) הַ֨דְּבָרִ֔ים (the words) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (that) דִּבְּר֛וּ (spoke) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵ֥ן (of Reuben), וּבְנֵי־ (and the sons) גָ֖ד (of Gad), וּבְנֵ֣י (and the sons) מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה (of Manasseh), וַיִּיטַ֖ב (and it pleased) בְּעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃ (them). 31  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And said) פִּֽינְחָ֣ס (Phinehas) בֶּן־ (son) אֶלְעָזָ֣ר (of Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵ֡ן (the priest) אֶל־ (to) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵ֨ן (of Reuben), וְאֶל־ (and) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) גָ֜ד (of Gad), וְאֶל־ (and) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) מְנַשֶּׁ֗ה (of Manasseh), הַיּ֤וֹם׀ (This day) יָדַ֙עְנוּ֙ (we perceive) כִּֽי־ (that) בְתוֹכֵ֣נוּ (in our midst) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH is), אֲשֶׁ֛ר (because) לֹֽא־ (not) מְעַלְתֶּ֥ם (you⁺ have committed) בַּֽיהוָ֖ה (against YHWH) הַמַּ֣עַל (the treachery) הַזֶּ֑ה (this). אָ֗ז (Therefore) הִצַּלְתֶּ֛ם (you⁺ have delivered) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) מִיַּ֥ד (out of the hand) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

32  וַיָּ֣שָׁב (And returned) פִּֽינְחָ֣ס (Phinehas) בֶּן־ (son) אֶלְעָזָ֣ר (of Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵ֣ן׀ (the priest) וְהַנְּשִׂיאִ֡ים (and the leaders) מֵאֵ֣ת (from) בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵן֩ (of Reuben) וּמֵאֵ֨ת (and) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) גָ֜ד (of Gad), מֵאֶ֧רֶץ (from the land) הַגִּלְעָ֛ד (of Gilead), אֶל־ (to) אֶ֥רֶץ (the land) כְּנַ֖עַן (of Canaan) אֶל־ (to) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וַיָּשִׁ֥בוּ (and they brought back) אוֹתָ֖ם (to them) דָּבָֽר׃ (word). 33  וַיִּיטַ֣ב (And was pleasing) הַדָּבָ֗ר (the word) בְּעֵינֵי֙ (in the eyes) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel); וַיְבָרֲכ֥וּ (and blessed) אֱלֹהִ֖ים (God) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וְלֹ֣א (and no more) אָמְר֗וּ (they spoke) לַעֲל֤וֹת (of going) עֲלֵיהֶם֙ (against them) לַצָּבָ֔א (in battle) לְשַׁחֵת֙ (to destroy) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the land) אֲשֶׁ֛ר (that) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵ֥ן (of Reuben) וּבְנֵי־ (and) גָ֖ד (of Gad) יֹשְׁבִ֥ים (were dwelling) בָּֽהּ׃ (in it). 34  וַֽיִּקְרְא֛וּ (And proclaimed) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) רְאוּבֵ֥ן (of Reuben) וּבְנֵי־ (and the sons) גָ֖ד (of Gad) לַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (of the altar), כִּ֣י (that) עֵ֥ד (A witness) הוּא֙ (it is) בֵּֽינֹתֵ֔ינוּ (between us) כִּ֥י (that) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH is) הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃פ (God).
