I Cry Out before You

שִׁ֥יר (A Song). מִזְמ֗וֹר (A Psalm) לִבְנֵ֫י (of the sons) קֹ֥רַח (of Korah), לַמְנַצֵּ֣חַ (for the one directing). עַל־ (According to) מָחֲלַ֣ת (Mahalath) לְעַנּ֑וֹת (Leannoth), מַ֝שְׂכִּ֗יל (a Maskil) לְהֵימָ֥ן (of Heman) הָאֶזְרָחִֽי׃ (the Ezrahite).

1יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH), אֱלֹהֵ֣י (God) יְשׁוּעָתִ֑י (of my salvation),

יוֹם־ (by day) צָעַ֖קְתִּי (I have cried out), בַלַּ֣יְלָה (and in the night) נֶגְדֶּֽךָ׃ (before You).

2  תָּב֣וֹא (Let come) לְ֭פָנֶיךָ (before Your face) תְּפִלָּתִ֑י (my prayer);

הַטֵּֽה־ (incline) אָ֝זְנְךָ֗ (Your ear) לְרִנָּתִֽי׃ (to my cry);

3  כִּֽי־ (for) שָֽׂבְעָ֣ה (is filled) בְרָע֣וֹת (with troubles) נַפְשִׁ֑י (my soul),

וְחַיַּ֗י (and my life) לִשְׁא֥וֹל (to Sheol) הִגִּֽיעוּ׃ (has reached).

4  נֶ֭חְשַׁבְתִּי (I am counted) עִם־ (with) י֣וֹרְדֵי (those going down) ב֑וֹר (into the Pit);

הָ֝יִ֗יתִי (I am) כְּגֶ֣בֶר (like a man) אֵֽין־ (with no) אֱיָֽל׃ (strength),

5  בַּמֵּתִ֗ים (among the dead), חָ֫פְשִׁ֥י (set free),

כְּמ֤וֹ (like) חֲלָלִ֨ים׀ (the slain) שֹׁ֥כְבֵי (lying down) קֶ֗בֶר (in the grave),

אֲשֶׁ֤ר (whom) לֹ֣א (not) זְכַרְתָּ֣ם (do You remember them) ע֑וֹד (anymore),

וְ֝הֵ֗מָּה (and they) מִיָּדְךָ֥ (from Your hand) נִגְזָֽרוּ׃ (are cut off).

6  שַׁ֭תַּנִי (You have set me) בְּב֣וֹר (in the Pit) תַּחְתִּיּ֑וֹת (lowest),

בְּ֝מַחֲשַׁכִּ֗ים (in darkness) בִּמְצֹלֽוֹת׃ (in the depths).

7  עָ֭לַי (Upon me) סָמְכָ֣ה (has grabbed hold) חֲמָתֶ֑ךָ (Your wrath),

וְכָל־ (and with all) מִ֝שְׁבָּרֶ֗יךָ (Your waves) עִנִּ֥יתָ (You have afflicted).

סֶּֽלָה׃ (Selah).

8  הִרְחַ֥קְתָּ (You have put far) מְיֻדָּעַ֗י (my acquaintances) מִ֫מֶּ֥נִּי (from me);

שַׁתַּ֣נִי (You have made me) תוֹעֵב֣וֹת (loathsome) לָ֑מוֹ (to them);

כָּ֝לֻ֗א (I am shut in) וְלֹ֣א (and not) אֵצֵֽא׃ (can I go forth).

9  עֵינִ֥י (My eye) דָאֲבָ֗ה (languishes) מִנִּ֫י (from) עֹ֥נִי (this affliction);

קְרָאתִ֣יךָ (I have called to You), יְהוָ֣ה (O YHWH), בְּכָל־ (all) י֑וֹם (the day);

שִׁטַּ֖חְתִּי (I have stretched out) אֵלֶ֣יךָ (to You) כַפָּֽי׃ (my hands).

10  הֲלַמֵּתִ֥ים (For the dead) תַּעֲשֶׂה־ (will You work) פֶּ֑לֶא (wonders)?

אִם־ (And if) רְ֝פָאִ֗ים (departed spirits) יָק֤וּמוּ׀ (rise up), יוֹד֬וּךָ (do they thank You)?

סֶּֽלָה׃ (Selah).

11  הַיְסֻפַּ֣ר (Shall be recounted) בַּקֶּ֣בֶר (in the Grave) חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ (Your loving devotion),

אֱ֝מֽוּנָתְךָ֗ (or Your faithfulness) בָּאֲבַדּֽוֹן׃ (in Abaddon)?

12  הֲיִוָּדַ֣ע (Shall be known) בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ (in the darkness) פִּלְאֶ֑ךָ (Your wonders),

וְ֝צִדְקָתְךָ֗ (and Your righteousness) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) נְשִׁיָּֽה׃ (of forgetfulness)?

13  וַאֲנִ֤י׀ (And I) אֵלֶ֣יךָ (to You), יְהוָ֣ה (O YHWH), שִׁוַּ֑עְתִּי (cry for help),

וּ֝בַבֹּ֗קֶר (and in the morning) תְּֽפִלָּתִ֥י (my prayer) תְקַדְּמֶֽךָּ׃ (comes before You).

14  לָמָ֣ה (Why), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH), תִּזְנַ֣ח (do You reject) נַפְשִׁ֑י (my soul)?

תַּסְתִּ֖יר (You hide) פָּנֶ֣יךָ (Your face) מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ (from me).

15  עָ֘נִ֤י (Afflicted) אֲנִ֣י (I am) וְגֹוֵ֣עַ (and dying) מִנֹּ֑עַר (from my youth);

נָשָׂ֖אתִי (I bear) אֵמֶ֣יךָ (Your terrors)— אָפֽוּנָה׃ (I am in despair).

16  עָ֭לַי (Over me) עָבְר֣וּ (has passed) חֲרוֹנֶ֑יךָ (Your wrath);

בִּ֝עוּתֶ֗יךָ (Your terrors) צִמְּתוּתֻֽנִי׃ (have destroyed me).

17  סַבּ֣וּנִי (They came around me) כַ֭מַּיִם (like the waters) כָּל־ (all) הַיּ֑וֹם (the day);

הִקִּ֖יפוּ (they surrounded) עָלַ֣י (me) יָֽחַד׃ (altogether).

18  הִרְחַ֣קְתָּ (You have put far) מִ֭מֶּנִּי (my) אֹהֵ֣ב (beloved) וָרֵ֑עַ (and friend),

מְֽיֻדָּעַ֥י (my close acquaintance) מַחְשָֽׁךְ׃ (is darkness).
