Greeting from the Elder
(3 John 1:1-4)

1Ὁ (The) πρεσβύτερος (elder),

Ἐκλεκτῇ (To the elect) κυρίᾳ (lady) καὶ (and) τοῖς (the) τέκνοις (children) αὐτῆς (of her), οὓς (whom) ἐγὼ (I) ἀγαπῶ (love) ἐν (in) ἀληθείᾳ (truth), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἐγὼ (I) μόνος (only), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) πάντες (all) οἱ (those) ἐγνωκότες (having known) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth) — 2διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth) τὴν (-) μένουσαν (abiding) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us) καὶ (and) μεθ’ (with) ἡμῶν (us) ἔσται (that will be) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age):

3Ἔσται (Will be) μεθ’ (with) ἡμῶν (us) χάρις (grace), ἔλεος (mercy), εἰρήνη (and peace) παρὰ (from) Θεοῦ (God) Πατρός (the Father) καὶ (and) παρὰ (from) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father), ἐν (in) ἀληθείᾳ (truth) καὶ (and) ἀγάπῃ (love).

Walking in the Truth
(John 8:30-41)

4Ἐχάρην (I rejoiced) λίαν (exceedingly) ὅτι (that) εὕρηκα (I have found) ἐκ (some of) τῶν (the) τέκνων (children) σου (of you) περιπατοῦντας (walking) ἐν (in) ἀληθείᾳ (truth), καθὼς (just as) ἐντολὴν (commandment) ἐλάβομεν (we received) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father). 5καὶ (And) νῦν (now) ἐρωτῶ (I implore) σε (you), κυρία (lady), οὐχ (not) ὡς (as) ἐντολὴν (a commandment) «γράφων (I am writing) σοι» (to you) ⇔ καινὴν (new), ἀλλὰ (but) ἣν (that which) εἴχομεν* (we have had) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning), ἵνα (that) ἀγαπῶμεν (we should love) ἀλλήλους (one another). 6καὶ (And) αὕτη (this) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love), ἵνα (that) περιπατῶμεν (we should walk) κατὰ (according to) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) αὐτοῦ (of Him). αὕτη (This) ἡ (the) ἐντολή (commandment) ἐστιν (is) καθὼς (just as) ἠκούσατε (you have heard) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning), ἵνα (so that) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it) περιπατῆτε (you should walk).

Beware of Deceivers

7Ὅτι (For) πολλοὶ (many) πλάνοι (deceivers) ἐξῆλθον (have entered) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), οἱ (those) μὴ (not) ὁμολογοῦντες (confessing) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐν (in) σαρκί (flesh). οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) πλάνος (deceiver) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἀντίχριστος (antichrist). 8βλέπετε (Watch) ἑαυτούς (yourselves), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) ἀπολέσητε (you should lose) ἃ (what things) εἰργασάμεθα* (we have worked for),a ἀλλὰ (but) μισθὸν (a reward) πλήρη (full) ἀπολάβητε (you may receive). 9πᾶς (Anyone) ὁ (-) προάγων (going on ahead) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) μένων (abiding) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) διδαχῇ (teaching) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), Θεὸν (God) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has). ὁ (The one) μένων (abiding) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) διδαχῇ (teaching), οὗτος (this one) καὶ (both) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) καὶ (and) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) ἔχει (has).

10Εἴ (If) τις (anyone) ἔρχεται (comes) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) καὶ (and) ταύτην (this) τὴν (-) διδαχὴν (teaching) οὐ (not) φέρει (does bring), μὴ (not) λαμβάνετε (receive) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (into) οἰκίαν (the house), καὶ (and) χαίρειν (to rejoice) αὐτῷ (him) μὴ (not) λέγετε (tell); 11ὁ (the one) λέγων (telling) γὰρ (for) αὐτῷ (him) χαίρειν (to rejoice) κοινωνεῖ (partakes) τοῖς (in the) ἔργοις (works) αὐτοῦ (of him) τοῖς (-) πονηροῖς (evil).

12Πολλὰ (Many things) ἔχων (having) ὑμῖν (to you) γράφειν (to write), οὐκ (not) ἐβουλήθην (I purposed) διὰ (with) χάρτου (paper) καὶ (and) μέλανος (ink); ἀλλὰ (but) ἐλπίζω (I hope) γενέσθαι (to come) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) στόμα (mouth) πρὸς (to) στόμα (mouth) λαλῆσαι (to speak), ἵνα (so that) ἡ (the) χαρὰ (joy) ἡμῶν (of us) πεπληρωμένη (having been completed) ᾖ (may be).
