Judgment on the Nations

1  קִרְב֤וּ (Come near), גוֹיִם֙ (O nations), לִשְׁמֹ֔עַ (to hear);

וּלְאֻמִּ֖ים (peoples)! הַקְשִׁ֑יבוּ (And pay attention),

תִּשְׁמַ֤ע (let hear), הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ (the earth) וּמְלֹאָ֔הּ (and its fullness);

תֵּבֵ֖ל (the world), וְכָל־ (and all) צֶאֱצָאֶֽיהָ׃ (its offspring).

2  כִּ֣י (For) קֶ֤צֶף (wrath) לַֽיהוָה֙ (is unto YHWH) עַל־ (against) כָּל־ (all) הַגּוֹיִ֔ם (the nations),

וְחֵמָ֖ה (and rage) עַל־ (against) כָּל־ (all) צְבָאָ֑ם (their hosts);

הֶחֱרִימָ֖ם (He has devoted them to destruction)

נְתָנָ֥ם (He has given them over) לַטָּֽבַח׃ (to the slaughter).

3  וְחַלְלֵיהֶ֣ם (And their slain) יֻשְׁלָ֔כוּ (will be thrown out),

וּפִגְרֵיהֶ֖ם (and from their corpses), יַעֲלֶ֣ה (will rise) בָאְשָׁ֑ם (their stench)

וְנָמַ֥סּוּ (will flow) הָרִ֖ים (and the mountains) מִדָּמָֽם׃ (with their blood).

4  וְנָמַ֙קּוּ֙ (Will be made to rot), כָּל־ (and all) צְבָ֣א (the host) הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם (of the heavens)

וְנָגֹ֥לּוּ (will be rolled up) כַסֵּ֖פֶר (like a scroll); הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם (and the heavens)

וְכָל־ (and all) צְבָאָ֣ם (their host) יִבּ֔וֹל (will fade away),

כִּנְבֹ֤ל (like the fading) עָלֶה֙ (of a leaf) מִגֶּ֔פֶן (from the vine),

וּכְנֹבֶ֖לֶת (and like a falling) מִתְּאֵנָֽה׃ (from a fig tree).

Judgment on Edom
(Isaiah 21:11–12)

5  כִּֽי־ (For) רִוְּתָ֥ה (has drunk its fill) בַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (in the heavens), חַרְבִּ֑י (My sword)

הִנֵּה֙ (behold), עַל־ (upon) אֱד֣וֹם (Edom), תֵּרֵ֔ד (it will come down)

וְעַל־ (and upon) עַ֥ם (the people) חֶרְמִ֖י (I have devoted), לְמִשְׁפָּֽט׃ (to judgment).

6  חֶ֣רֶב (The sword) לַיהוָ֞ה (of YHWH) מָלְאָ֥ה (has been full) דָם֙ (of blood),

הֻדַּ֣שְׁנָה (dripping) מֵחֵ֔לֶב (with fat),

מִדַּ֤ם (and with the blood) כָּרִים֙ (of lambs) וְעַתּוּדִ֔ים (and goats),

מֵחֵ֖לֶב (with the fat) כִּלְי֣וֹת (of the kidneys) אֵילִ֑ים (of rams).

כִּ֣י (For) זֶ֤בַח (a sacrifice is) לַֽיהוָה֙ (unto YHWH) בְּבָצְרָ֔ה (in Bozrah),

וְטֶ֥בַח (slaughter) גָּד֖וֹל (and a great) בְּאֶ֥רֶץ (in the land) אֱדֽוֹם׃ (of Edom).

7  וְיָרְד֤וּ (Will go down) רְאֵמִים֙ (and the wild oxen) עִמָּ֔ם (with them)

וּפָרִ֖ים (and the young bulls) עִם־ (with) אַבִּירִ֑ים (the mighty ones);

וְרִוְּתָ֤ה (will be watered) אַרְצָם֙ (and their land) מִדָּ֔ם (with blood),

וַעֲפָרָ֖ם (and their dust) מֵחֵ֥לֶב (with fat) יְדֻשָּֽׁן׃ (will be soaked).

8  כִּ֛י (For) י֥וֹם (a day) נָקָ֖ם (of vengeance), לַֽיהוָ֑ה (is unto YHWH)

שְׁנַ֥ת (a year) שִׁלּוּמִ֖ים (of recompense) לְרִ֥יב (for the cause) צִיּֽוֹן׃ (of Zion).

9  וְנֶהֶפְכ֤וּ (And will be turned) נְחָלֶ֙יהָ֙ (her streams) לְזֶ֔פֶת (to pitch),

וַעֲפָרָ֖הּ (and her dust) לְגָפְרִ֑ית (to brimstone),

וְהָיְתָ֣ה (and will become) אַרְצָ֔הּ (her land) לְזֶ֖פֶת (as pitch) בֹּעֵרָֽה׃ (burning).

10  לַ֤יְלָה (Night) וְיוֹמָם֙ (and day); לֹ֣א (not) תִכְבֶּ֔ה (it will be quenched)

לְעוֹלָ֖ם (forever). יַעֲלֶ֣ה (Will ascend) עֲשָׁנָ֑הּ (her smoke)

מִדּ֤וֹר (from generation) לָדוֹר֙ (to generation) תֶּחֱרָ֔ב (she will be desolate);

לְנֵ֣צַח (forever) נְצָחִ֔ים (and ever). אֵ֥ין (No one) עֹבֵ֖ר (will pass) בָּֽהּ׃ (through her).

11  וִירֵשׁ֙וּהָ֙ (And they will dispossess her) קָאַ֣ת (the hawk) וְקִפּ֔וֹד (and the hedgehog)

וְיַנְשׁ֥וֹף (and the owl) וְעֹרֵ֖ב (and the raven) יִשְׁכְּנוּ־ (will dwell) בָ֑הּ (in her)

וְנָטָ֥ה (and He will stretch out) עָלֶ֛יהָ (over her) קַֽו־ (a measuring line) תֹ֖הוּ (of confusion),

וְאַבְנֵי־ (and a plumb line) בֹֽהוּ׃ (of emptiness).

12  חֹרֶ֥יהָ (For her nobles) וְאֵֽין־ (and nothing is) שָׁ֖ם (there), מְלוּכָ֣ה (a kingdom), יִקְרָ֑אוּ (to call)

וְכָל־ (and all) שָׂרֶ֖יהָ (her princes) יִ֥הְיוּ (will be) אָֽפֶס׃ (nothing).

13  וְעָלְתָ֤ה (Will come up) אַרְמְנֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ (in her palaces), סִירִ֔ים (and thorns)

קִמּ֥וֹשׂ (thistles) וָח֖וֹחַ (and briers) בְּמִבְצָרֶ֑יהָ (in her fortresses)

וְהָיְתָה֙ (and she will be) נְוֵ֣ה (a habitation) תַנִּ֔ים (of jackals)

חָצִ֖יר (a courtyard) לִבְנ֥וֹת (for daughters) יַעֲנָֽה׃ (of the ostrich).

14  וּפָגְשׁ֤וּ (Will meet) צִיִּים֙ (and the desert creatures) אֶת־ (with) אִיִּ֔ים (the jackals),

וְשָׂעִ֖יר (and the wild goat) עַל־ (alongside) רֵעֵ֣הוּ (his companion); יִקְרָ֑א (will bleat)

אַךְ־ (indeed) שָׁם֙ (there), הִרְגִּ֣יעָה (will rest) לִּילִ֔ית (Lilith)

וּמָצְאָ֥ה (and find) לָ֖הּ (for herself) מָנֽוֹחַ׃ (a place of rest).

15  שָׁ֣מָּה (There) קִנְּנָ֤ה (will nest), קִפּוֹז֙ (the owl) וַתְּמַלֵּ֔ט (and lay),

וּבָקְעָ֖ה (and hatch), וְדָגְרָ֣ה (and gather them) בְצִלָּ֑הּ (under her shadow).

אַךְ־ (Even) שָׁ֛ם (there) נִקְבְּצ֥וּ (will gather), דַיּ֖וֹת (the birds of prey)

אִשָּׁ֥ה (each) רְעוּתָֽהּ׃ (with her mate).

16  דִּרְשׁ֨וּ (Search) מֵֽעַל־ (from) סֵ֤פֶר (the book) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH), וּֽקְרָ֔אוּ (and recite);

אַחַ֤ת (one) מֵהֵ֙נָּה֙ (of these) לֹ֣א (not) נֶעְדָּ֔רָה (will go missing),

אִשָּׁ֥ה (a female) רְעוּתָ֖הּ (her mate). לֹ֣א (Will not) פָקָ֑דוּ (lack)

כִּֽי־ (for) פִי֙ (His mouth) ה֣וּא (it) צִוָּ֔ה (has commanded),

וְרוּח֖וֹ (and His Spirit) ה֥וּא (He) קִבְּצָֽן׃ (has gathered them).

17  וְהֽוּא־ (And He) הִפִּ֤יל (has cast) לָהֶן֙ (in it) גּוֹרָ֔ל (a lot)

וְיָד֛וֹ (and His hand) חִלְּקַ֥תָּה (has divided it) לָהֶ֖ם (among them) בַּקָּ֑ו (with a measuring line).

עַד־ (Even to) עוֹלָם֙ (forever), יִֽירָשׁ֔וּהָ (they will possess it)

לְד֥וֹר (for generation) וָד֖וֹר (and generation) יִשְׁכְּנוּ־ (they will dwell) בָֽהּ׃ס (in it).
