Victory with God
(2 Samuel 8:1–14; 1 Chronicles 18:1–13; Psalm 108:1–13)

לַ֭מְנַצֵּחַ (For the one directing). עַל־ (According to) שׁוּשַׁ֣ן (The Lily) עֵד֑וּת (of the Covenant). מִכְתָּ֖ם (A Miktam) לְדָוִ֣ד (of David) לְלַמֵּֽד׃ (for teaching), בְּהַצּוֹת֨וֹ׀ (in his struggling) אֶ֥ת (with) אֲרַ֣ם (Aram-) נַהֲרַיִם֮ (naharaim) וְאֶת־ (and with) אֲרַ֪ם (Aram-) צ֫וֹבָ֥ה (zobah), וַיָּ֤שָׁב (when returned) יוֹאָ֗ב (Joab) וַיַּ֣ךְ (and struck) אֶת־ (-) אֱד֣וֹם (Edom) בְּגֵיא־ (in the Valley) מֶ֑לַח (of Salt) שְׁנֵ֖ים (two) עָשָׂ֣ר (and ten) אָֽלֶף׃ (thousand men).

1אֱ֭לֹהִים (O God), זְנַחְתָּ֣נוּ (You have rejected us);

פְרַצְתָּ֑נוּ (You have broken us);

אָ֝נַ֗פְתָּ (You have been angry);

תְּשׁ֣וֹבֵ֥ב (may You return) לָֽנוּ׃ (to us).

2  הִרְעַ֣שְׁתָּה (You have made quake) אֶ֣רֶץ (the earth);

פְּצַמְתָּ֑הּ (You have torn it open)

רְפָ֖ה (may You heal) שְׁבָרֶ֣יהָ (its fractures),

כִי־ (for) מָֽטָה׃ (it is tottering).

3  הִרְאִ֣יתָה (You have made see) עַמְּךָ֣ (Your people) קָשָׁ֑ה (hardship);

הִ֝שְׁקִיתָ֗נוּ (You have made us drink) יַ֣יִן (the wine) תַּרְעֵלָֽה׃ (of staggering).

4  נָ֘תַ֤תָּה (You have given) לִּירֵאֶ֣יךָ (to those who fear You) נֵּ֭ס (a banner),

לְהִתְנוֹסֵ֑ס (to be set prominently) מִ֝פְּנֵ֗י (before the face) קֹ֣שֶׁט (of the bow).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

5  לְ֭מַעַן (That) יֵחָלְצ֣וּן (may be rescued) יְדִידֶ֑יךָ (Your beloved),

הוֹשִׁ֖יעָה (bring salvation) יְמִֽינְךָ֣ (with Your right hand) וַעֲנֵנוּ׃ (and answer us).

6  אֱלֹהִ֤ים׀ (God) דִּבֶּ֥ר (has spoken) בְּקָדְשׁ֗וֹ (in His holiness):

אֶ֫עְלֹ֥זָה (I will rejoice)!

אֲחַלְּקָ֥ה (I will divide) שְׁכֶ֑ם (Shechem),

וְעֵ֖מֶק (and the Valley) סֻכּ֣וֹת (of Succoth) אֲמַדֵּֽד׃ (I will measure out).

7  לִ֤י (Is unto Me) גִלְעָ֨ד׀ (Gilead) וְלִ֬י (is unto Me) מְנַשֶּׁ֗ה (Manasseh),

וְ֭אֶפְרַיִם (and Ephraim is) מָע֣וֹז (the helmet for) רֹאשִׁ֑י (My head); יְ֝הוּדָ֗ה (Judah is) מְחֹֽקְקִי׃ (My scepter);

8  מוֹאָ֤ב׀ (Moab is) סִ֬יר (the pot) רַחְצִ֗י (for my washing);

עַל־ (upon) אֱ֭דוֹם (Edom) אַשְׁלִ֣יךְ (I will cast) נַעֲלִ֑י (My sandal);

עָ֝לַ֗י (over) פְּלֶ֣שֶׁת (Philistia) הִתְרֹעָֽעִֽי׃ (I will give a shout).

9  מִ֣י (Who) יֹ֭בִלֵנִי (will bring me) עִ֣יר (to the city) מָצ֑וֹר (of fortification)?

מִ֖י (Who) נָחַ֣נִי (will lead me) עַד־ (to) אֱדֽוֹם׃ (Edom)?

10  הֲלֹֽא־ (Not) אַתָּ֣ה (You), אֱלֹהִ֣ים (O God), זְנַחְתָּ֑נוּ (have rejected us)?

וְֽלֹא־ (And not) תֵצֵ֥א (do You go forth), אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים (O God), בְּצִבְאוֹתֵֽינוּ׃ (with our armies)?

11  הָֽבָה־ (Give) לָּ֣נוּ (to us) עֶזְרָ֣ת (help) מִצָּ֑ר (against the enemy),

וְ֝שָׁ֗וְא (and for empty is) תְּשׁוּעַ֥ת (the help) אָדָם׃ (of man).

12  בֵּֽאלֹהִ֥ים (In God) נַעֲשֶׂה־ (we will perform) חָ֑יִל (with strength),

וְ֝ה֗וּא (and He) יָב֥וּס (will trample) צָרֵֽינוּ׃ (our adversaries).
