1The sons of Israel were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,

1אֵ֖לֶּה בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל רְאוּבֵ֤ן שִׁמְעוֹן֙ לֵוִ֣י וִיהוּדָ֔ה יִשָׂשכָ֖ר וּזְבֻלֽוּן׃

2Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. Descendants of Judah

2דָּ֚ן יוֹסֵ֣ף וּבִנְיָמִ֔ן נַפְתָּלִ֖י גָּ֥ד וְאָשֵֽׁר׃ ס

3Judah had three sons from Bathshua, a Canaanite woman. Their names were Er, Onan, and Shelah. But the LORD saw that the oldest son, Er, was a wicked man, so he killed him.

3בְּנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֗ה עֵ֤ר וְאוֹנָן֙ וְשֵׁלָ֔ה שְׁלוֹשָׁה֙ נ֣וֹלַד ל֔וֹ מִבַּת־ שׁ֖וּעַ הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֑ית וַיְהִ֞י עֵ֣ר ׀ בְּכ֣וֹר יְהוּדָ֗ה רַ֛ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה וַיְמִיתֵֽהוּ׃ ס

4Later Judah had twin sons from Tamar, his widowed daughter-in-law. Their names were Perez and Zerah. So Judah had five sons in all.

4וְתָמָר֙ כַּלָּת֔וֹ יָ֥לְדָה לּ֖וֹ אֶת־ פֶּ֣רֶץ וְאֶת־ זָ֑רַח כָּל־ בְּנֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה חֲמִשָּֽׁה׃ ס

5The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

5בְּנֵי־ פֶ֖רֶץ חֶצְר֥וֹן וְחָמֽוּל׃ ס

6The sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Darda —five in all.

6וּבְנֵ֣י זֶ֗רַח זִ֠מְרִי וְאֵיתָ֧ן וְהֵימָ֛ן וְכַלְכֹּ֥ל וָדָ֖רַע כֻּלָּ֥ם חֲמִשָּֽׁה׃ ס

7The son of Carmi (a descendant of Zimri) was Achan, who brought disaster on Israel by taking plunder that had been set apart for the LORD.

7וּבְנֵ֖י כַּרְמִ֑י עָכָר֙ עוֹכֵ֣ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר מָעַ֖ל בַּחֵֽרֶם׃ ס

8The son of Ethan was Azariah. From Judah’s Grandson Hezron to David

8וּבְנֵ֥י אֵיתָ֖ן עֲזַרְיָֽה׃

9The sons of Hezron were Jerahmeel, Ram, and Caleb.

9וּבְנֵ֥י חֶצְר֖וֹן אֲשֶׁ֣ר נוֹלַד־ ל֑וֹ אֶת־ יְרַחְמְאֵ֥ל וְאֶת־ רָ֖ם וְאֶת־ כְּלוּבָֽי׃

10Ram was the father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Nahshon, a leader of Judah.

10וְרָ֖ם הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ עַמִּינָדָ֑ב וְעַמִּינָדָב֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ נַחְשׁ֔וֹן נְשִׂ֖יא בְּנֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃

11Nahshon was the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz.

11וְנַחְשׁוֹן֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ שַׂלְמָ֔א וְשַׂלְמָ֖א הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ בֹּֽעַז׃

12Boaz was the father of Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse.

12וּבֹ֙עַז֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ עוֹבֵ֔ד וְעוֹבֵ֖ד הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ יִשָֽׁי׃

13Jesse’s first son was Eliab, his second was Abinadab, his third was Shimea,

13וְאִישַׁ֛י הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ בְּכֹר֖וֹ אֶת־ אֱלִיאָ֑ב וַאֲבִינָדָב֙ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י וְשִׁמְעָ֖א הַשְּׁלִישִֽׁי׃

14his fourth was Nethanel, his fifth was Raddai,

14נְתַנְאֵל֙ הָֽרְבִיעִ֔י רַדַּ֖י הַחֲמִישִֽׁי׃

15his sixth was Ozem, and his seventh was David.

15אֹ֚צֶם הַשִּׁשִּׁ֔י דָּוִ֖יד הַשְּׁבִעִֽי׃

16Their sisters were named Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah had three sons named Abishai, Joab, and Asahel.

16[ואחיתיהם] (וְאַחְיוֹתֵיהֶ֖ם) צְרוּיָ֣ה וַאֲבִיגָ֑יִל וּבְנֵ֣י צְרוּיָ֗ה אַבְשַׁ֛י וְיוֹאָ֥ב וַעֲשָׂה־ אֵ֖ל שְׁלֹשָֽׁה׃

17Abigail married a man named Jether, an Ishmaelite, and they had a son named Amasa. Other Descendants of Hezron

17וַאֲבִיגַ֕יִל יָלְדָ֖ה אֶת־ עֲמָשָׂ֑א וַאֲבִ֣י עֲמָשָׂ֔א יֶ֖תֶר הַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִֽי׃

18Hezron’s son Caleb had sons from his wife Azubah and from Jerioth. Her sons were named Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.

18וְכָלֵ֣ב בֶּן־ חֶצְר֗וֹן הוֹלִ֛יד אֶת־ עֲזוּבָ֥ה אִשָּׁ֖ה וְאֶת־ יְרִיע֑וֹת וְאֵ֣לֶּה בָנֶ֔יהָ יֵ֥שֶׁר וְשׁוֹבָ֖ב וְאַרְדּֽוֹן׃

19After Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrathah, and they had a son named Hur.

19וַתָּ֖מָת עֲזוּבָ֑ה וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ ל֤וֹ כָלֵב֙ אֶת־ אֶפְרָ֔ת וַתֵּ֥לֶד ל֖וֹ אֶת־ חֽוּר׃

20Hur was the father of Uri. Uri was the father of Bezalel.

20וְחוּר֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ אוּרִ֔י וְאוּרִ֖י הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ בְּצַלְאֵֽל׃ ס

21When Hezron was sixty years old, he married Gilead’s sister, the daughter of Makir. They had a son named Segub.

21וְאַחַ֗ר בָּ֤א חֶצְרוֹן֙ אֶל־ בַּת־ מָכִיר֙ אֲבִ֣י גִלְעָ֔ד וְה֣וּא לְקָחָ֔הּ וְה֖וּא בֶּן־ שִׁשִּׁ֣ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַתֵּ֥לֶד ל֖וֹ אֶת־ שְׂגֽוּב׃

22Segub was the father of Jair, who ruled twenty-three towns in the land of Gilead.

22וּשְׂג֖וּב הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ יָאִ֑יר וַֽיְהִי־ ל֗וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֤ים וְשָׁלוֹשׁ֙ עָרִ֔ים בְּאֶ֖רֶץ הַגִּלְעָֽד׃

23(But Geshur and Aram captured the Towns of Jair and also took Kenath and its sixty surrounding villages.) All these were descendants of Makir, the father of Gilead.

23וַיִּקַּ֣ח גְּשֽׁוּר־ וַ֠אֲרָם אֶת־ חַוֺּ֨ת יָאִ֧יר מֵאִתָּ֛ם אֶת־ קְנָ֥ת וְאֶת־ בְּנֹתֶ֖יהָ שִׁשִּׁ֣ים עִ֑יר כָּל־ אֵ֕לֶּה בְּנֵ֖י מָכִ֥יר אֲבִי־ גִלְעָֽד׃

24Soon after Hezron died in the town of Caleb-ephrathah, his wife Abijah gave birth to a son named Ashhur (the father of Tekoa). Descendants of Hezron’s Son Jerahmeel

24וְאַחַ֥ר מוֹת־ חֶצְר֖וֹן בְּכָלֵ֣ב אֶפְרָ֑תָה וְאֵ֤שֶׁת חֶצְרוֹן֙ אֲבִיָּ֔ה וַתֵּ֣לֶד ל֔וֹ אֶת־ אַשְׁח֖וּר אֲבִ֥י תְקֽוֹעַ׃

25The sons of Jerahmeel, the oldest son of Hezron, were Ram (the firstborn), Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.

25וַיִּהְי֧וּ בְנֵי־ יְרַחְמְאֵ֛ל בְּכ֥וֹר חֶצְר֖וֹן הַבְּכ֣וֹר ׀ רָ֑ם וּבוּנָ֥ה וָאֹ֛רֶן וָאֹ֖צֶם אֲחִיָּֽה׃

26Jerahmeel had a second wife named Atarah. She was the mother of Onam.

26וַתְּהִ֨י אִשָּׁ֥ה אַחֶ֛רֶת לִֽירַחְמְאֵ֖ל וּשְׁמָ֣הּ עֲטָרָ֑ה הִ֖יא אֵ֥ם אוֹנָֽם׃ ס

27The sons of Ram, the oldest son of Jerahmeel, were Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.

27וַיִּהְי֥וּ בְנֵי־ רָ֖ם בְּכ֣וֹר יְרַחְמְאֵ֑ל מַ֥עַץ וְיָמִ֖ין וָעֵֽקֶר׃

28The sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada. The sons of Shammai were Nadab and Abishur.

28וַיִּהְי֥וּ בְנֵי־ אוֹנָ֖ם שַׁמַּ֣י וְיָדָ֑ע וּבְנֵ֣י שַׁמַּ֔י נָדָ֖ב וַאֲבִישֽׁוּר׃

29The sons of Abishur and his wife Abihail were Ahban and Molid.

29וְשֵׁ֛ם אֵ֥שֶׁת אֲבִישׁ֖וּר אֲבִיהָ֑יִל וַתֵּ֣לֶד ל֔וֹ אֶת־ אַחְבָּ֖ן וְאֶת־ מוֹלִֽיד׃

30The sons of Nadab were Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children,

30וּבְנֵ֥י נָדָ֖ב סֶ֣לֶד וְאַפָּ֑יִם וַיָּ֥מָת סֶ֖לֶד לֹ֥א בָנִֽים׃ ס

31but Appaim had a son named Ishi. The son of Ishi was Sheshan. Sheshan had a descendant named Ahlai.

31וּבְנֵ֥י אַפַּ֖יִם יִשְׁעִ֑י וּבְנֵ֤י יִשְׁעִי֙ שֵׁשָׁ֔ן וּבְנֵ֥י שֵׁשָׁ֖ן אַחְלָֽי׃

32The sons of Jada, Shammai’s brother, were Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without children,

32וּבְנֵ֤י יָדָע֙ אֲחִ֣י שַׁמַּ֔י יֶ֖תֶר וְיוֹנָתָ֑ן וַיָּ֥מָת יֶ֖תֶר לֹ֥א בָנִֽים׃ ס

33but Jonathan had two sons named Peleth and Zaza. These were all descendants of Jerahmeel.

33וּבְנֵ֥י יוֹנָתָ֖ן פֶּ֣לֶת וְזָזָ֑א אֵ֥לֶּה הָי֖וּ בְּנֵ֥י יְרַחְמְאֵֽל׃

34Sheshan had no sons, though he did have daughters. He also had an Egyptian servant named Jarha.

34וְלֹֽא־ הָיָ֧ה לְשֵׁשָׁ֛ן בָּנִ֖ים כִּ֣י אִם־ בָּנ֑וֹת וּלְשֵׁשָׁ֛ן עֶ֥בֶד מִצְרִ֖י וּשְׁמ֥וֹ יַרְחָֽע׃

35Sheshan gave one of his daughters to be the wife of Jarha, and they had a son named Attai.

35וַיִּתֵּ֨ן שֵׁשָׁ֧ן אֶת־ בִּתּ֛וֹ לְיַרְחָ֥ע עַבְדּ֖וֹ לְאִשָּׁ֑ה וַתֵּ֥לֶד ל֖וֹ אֶת־ עַתָּֽי׃

36Attai was the father of Nathan. Nathan was the father of Zabad.

36וְעַתַּי֙ הֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ נָתָ֔ן וְנָתָ֖ן הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ זָבָֽד׃

37Zabad was the father of Ephlal. Ephlal was the father of Obed.

37וְזָבָד֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ אֶפְלָ֔ל וְאֶפְלָ֖ל הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ עוֹבֵֽד׃

38Obed was the father of Jehu. Jehu was the father of Azariah.

38וְעוֹבֵד֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ יֵה֔וּא וְיֵה֖וּא הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ עֲזַרְיָֽה׃

39Azariah was the father of Helez. Helez was the father of Eleasah.

39וַעֲזַרְיָה֙ הֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ חָ֔לֶץ וְחֶ֖לֶץ הֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ אֶלְעָשָֽׂה׃

40Eleasah was the father of Sismai. Sismai was the father of Shallum.

40וְאֶלְעָשָׂה֙ הֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ סִֽסְמָ֔י וְסִסְמַ֖י הֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ שַׁלּֽוּם׃

41Shallum was the father of Jekamiah. Jekamiah was the father of Elishama. Descendants of Hezron’s Son Caleb

41וְשַׁלּוּם֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־ יְקַמְיָ֔ה וִֽיקַמְיָ֖ה הֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ אֱלִישָׁמָֽע׃

42The descendants of Caleb, the brother of Jerahmeel, included Mesha (the firstborn), who became the father of Ziph. Caleb’s descendants also included the sons of Mareshah, the father of Hebron.

42וּבְנֵ֤י כָלֵב֙ אֲחִ֣י יְרַחְמְאֵ֔ל מֵישָׁ֥ע בְּכֹר֖וֹ ה֣וּא אֲבִי־ זִ֑יף וּבְנֵ֥י מָרֵשָׁ֖ה אֲבִ֥י חֶבְרֽוֹן׃

43The sons of Hebron were Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema.

43וּבְנֵ֖י חֶבְר֑וֹן קֹ֥רַח וְתַפֻּ֖חַ וְרֶ֥קֶם וָשָֽׁמַע׃

44Shema was the father of Raham. Raham was the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai.

44וְשֶׁ֣מַע הוֹלִ֔יד אֶת־ רַ֖חַם אֲבִ֣י יָרְקֳעָ֑ם וְרֶ֖קֶם הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ שַׁמָּֽי׃

45The son of Shammai was Maon. Maon was the father of Beth-zur.

45וּבֶן־ שַׁמַּ֖י מָע֑וֹן וּמָע֖וֹן אֲבִ֥י בֵֽית־ צֽוּר׃

46Caleb’s concubine Ephah gave birth to Haran, Moza, and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez.

46וְעֵיפָה֙ פִּילֶ֣גֶשׁ כָּלֵ֔ב יָֽלְדָ֛ה אֶת־ חָרָ֥ן וְאֶת־ מוֹצָ֖א וְאֶת־ גָּזֵ֑ז וְחָרָ֖ן הֹלִ֥יד אֶת־ גָּזֵֽז׃ ס

47The sons of Jahdai were Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.

47וּבְנֵ֖י יָהְדָּ֑י רֶ֧גֶם וְיוֹתָ֛ם וְגֵישָׁ֥ן וָפֶ֖לֶט וְעֵיפָ֥ה וָשָֽׁעַף׃

48Another of Caleb’s concubines, Maacah, gave birth to Sheber and Tirhanah.

48פִּלֶ֤גֶשׁ כָּלֵב֙ מַעֲכָ֔ה יָ֥לַד שֶׁ֖בֶר וְאֶֽת־ תִּרְחֲנָֽה׃

49She also gave birth to Shaaph (the father of Madmannah) and Sheva (the father of Macbenah and Gibea). Caleb also had a daughter named Acsah.

49וַתֵּ֗לֶד שַׁ֚עַף אֲבִ֣י מַדְמַנָּ֔ה אֶת־ שְׁוָ֛א אֲבִ֥י מַכְבֵּנָ֖ה וַאֲבִ֣י גִבְעָ֑א וּבַת־ כָּלֵ֖ב עַכְסָֽה׃ ס

50These were all descendants of Caleb. Descendants of Caleb’s Son Hur The sons of Hur, the oldest son of Caleb’s wife Ephrathah, were Shobal (the founder of Kiriath-jearim),

50אֵ֤לֶּה הָיוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י כָלֵ֔ב בֶּן־ ח֖וּר בְּכ֣וֹר אֶפְרָ֑תָה שׁוֹבָ֕ל אֲבִ֖י קִרְיַ֥ת יְעָרִֽים׃

51Salma (the founder of Bethlehem), and Hareph (the founder of Beth-gader).

51שַׂלְמָא֙ אֲבִ֣י בֵֽית־ לָ֔חֶם חָרֵ֖ף אֲבִ֥י בֵית־ גָּדֵֽר׃

52The descendants of Shobal (the founder of Kiriath-jearim) were Haroeh, half the Manahathites,

52וַיִּהְי֤וּ בָנִים֙ לְשׁוֹבָ֔ל אֲבִ֖י קִרְיַ֣ת יְעָרִ֑ים הָרֹאֶ֖ה חֲצִ֥י הַמְּנֻחֽוֹת׃

53and the families of Kiriath-jearim—the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites, from whom came the people of Zorah and Eshtaol.

53וּמִשְׁפְּחוֹת֙ קִרְיַ֣ת יְעָרִ֔ים הַיִּתְרִי֙ וְהַפּוּתִ֔י וְהַשֻּׁמָתִ֖י וְהַמִּשְׁרָעִ֑י מֵאֵ֗לֶּה יָצְאוּ֙ הַצָּ֣רְעָתִ֔י וְהָאֶשְׁתָּ֖אֻֽלִֽי׃ ס

54The descendants of Salma were the people of Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, the other half of the Manahathites, the Zorites,

54בְּנֵ֣י שַׂלְמָ֗א בֵּ֥ית לֶ֙חֶם֙ וּנְט֣וֹפָתִ֔י עַטְר֖וֹת בֵּ֣ית יוֹאָ֑ב וַחֲצִ֥י הַמָּנַחְתִּ֖י הַצָּרְעִֽי׃

55and the families of scribes living at Jabez—the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. All these were Kenites who descended from Hammath, the father of the family of Recab.

55וּמִשְׁפְּח֤וֹת סֹפְרִים֙ [ישבו] (יֹשְׁבֵ֣י) יַעְבֵּ֔ץ תִּרְעָתִ֥ים שִׁמְעָתִ֖ים שׂוּכָתִ֑ים הֵ֚מָּה הַקִּינִ֣ים הַבָּאִ֔ים מֵחַמַּ֖ת אֲבִ֥י בֵית־ רֵכָֽב׃ ס
