1The descendants of Adam were Seth, Enosh,

1אָדָ֥ם שֵׁ֖ת אֱנֽוֹשׁ׃

2Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared,

2קֵינָ֥ן מַהֲלַלְאֵ֖ל יָֽרֶד׃

3Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech,

3חֲנ֥וֹךְ מְתוּשֶׁ֖לַח לָֽמֶךְ׃

4and Noah. The sons of Noah were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Descendants of Japheth

4נֹ֥חַ שֵׁ֖ם חָ֥ם וָיָֽפֶת׃ ס

5The descendants of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

5בְּנֵ֣י יֶ֔פֶת גֹּ֣מֶר וּמָג֔וֹג וּמָדַ֖י וְיָוָ֣ן וְתֻבָ֑ל וּמֶ֖שֶׁךְ וְתִירָֽס׃ ס

6The descendants of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.

6וּבְנֵ֖י גֹּ֑מֶר אַשְׁכֲּנַ֥ז וְדִיפַ֖ת וְתוֹגַרְמָֽה׃

7The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim. Descendants of Ham

7וּבְנֵ֥י יָוָ֖ן אֱלִישָׁ֣ה וְתַרְשִׁ֑ישָׁה כִּתִּ֖ים וְרוֹדָנִֽים׃ ס

8The descendants of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.

8בְּנֵ֖י חָ֑ם כּ֥וּשׁ וּמִצְרַ֖יִם פּ֥וּט וּכְנָֽעַן׃

9The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The descendants of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.

9וּבְנֵ֣י כ֔וּשׁ סְבָא֙ וַחֲוִילָ֔ה וְסַבְתָּ֥א וְרַעְמָ֖א וְסַבְתְּכָ֑א וּבְנֵ֥י רַעְמָ֖א שְׁבָ֥א וּדְדָֽן׃ ס

10Cush was also the ancestor of Nimrod, who was the first heroic warrior on earth.

10וְכ֖וּשׁ יָלַ֣ד אֶת־ נִמְר֑וֹד ה֣וּא הֵחֵ֔ל לִהְי֥וֹת גִּבּ֖וֹר בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ ס

11Mizraim was the ancestor of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,

11וּמִצְרַ֡יִם יָלַ֞ד אֶת־ [לודיים] (לוּדִ֧ים) וְאֶת־ עֲנָמִ֛ים וְאֶת־ לְהָבִ֖ים וְאֶת־ נַפְתֻּחִֽים׃

12Pathrusites, Casluhites, and the Caphtorites, from whom the Philistines came.

12וְֽאֶת־ פַּתְרֻסִ֞ים וְאֶת־ כַּסְלֻחִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָצְא֥וּ מִשָּׁ֛ם פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים וְאֶת־ כַּפְתֹּרִֽים׃ ס

13Canaan’s oldest son was Sidon, the ancestor of the Sidonians. Canaan was also the ancestor of the Hittites,

13וּכְנַ֗עַן יָלַ֛ד אֶת־ צִיד֥וֹן בְּכֹר֖וֹ וְאֶת־ חֵֽת׃

14Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,

14וְאֶת־ הַיְבוּסִי֙ וְאֶת־ הָ֣אֱמֹרִ֔י וְאֵ֖ת הַגִּרְגָּשִֽׁי׃

15Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,

15וְאֶת־ הַחִוִּ֥י וְאֶת־ הַֽעַרְקִ֖י וְאֶת־ הַסִּינִֽי׃

16Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. Descendants of Shem

16וְאֶת־ הָאַרְוָדִ֥י וְאֶת־ הַצְּמָרִ֖י וְאֶת־ הַֽחֲמָתִֽי׃ ס

17The descendants of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. The descendants of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.

17בְּנֵ֣י שֵׁ֔ם עֵילָ֣ם וְאַשּׁ֔וּר וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁ֖ד וְל֣וּד וַאֲרָ֑ם וְע֥וּץ וְח֖וּל וְגֶ֥תֶר וָמֶֽשֶׁךְ׃ ס

18Arphaxad was the father of Shelah. Shelah was the father of Eber.

18וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁ֖ד יָלַ֣ד אֶת־ שָׁ֑לַח וְשֶׁ֖לַח יָלַ֥ד אֶת־ עֵֽבֶר׃

19Eber had two sons. The first was named Peleg (which means “division”), for during his lifetime the people of the world were divided into different language groups. His brother’s name was Joktan.

19וּלְעֵ֥בֶר יֻלַּ֖ד שְׁנֵ֣י בָנִ֑ים שֵׁ֣ם הָאֶחָ֞ד פֶּ֗לֶג כִּ֤י בְיָמָיו֙ נִפְלְגָ֣ה הָאָ֔רֶץ וְשֵׁ֥ם אָחִ֖יו יָקְטָֽן׃

20Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

20וְיָקְטָ֣ן יָלַ֔ד אֶת־ אַלְמוֹדָ֖ד וְאֶת־ שָׁ֑לֶף וְאֶת־ חֲצַרְמָ֖וֶת וְאֶת־ יָֽרַח׃

21Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,

21וְאֶת־ הֲדוֹרָ֥ם וְאֶת־ אוּזָ֖ל וְאֶת־ דִּקְלָֽה׃

22Obal, Abimael, Sheba,

22וְאֶת־ עֵיבָ֥ל וְאֶת־ אֲבִימָאֵ֖ל וְאֶת־ שְׁבָֽא׃

23Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were descendants of Joktan.

23וְאֶת־ אוֹפִ֥יר וְאֶת־ חֲוִילָ֖ה וְאֶת־ יוֹבָ֑ב כָּל־ אֵ֖לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י יָקְטָֽן׃ ס

24So this is the family line descended from Shem: Arphaxad, Shelah,

24שֵׁ֥ם ׀ אַרְפַּכְשַׁ֖ד שָֽׁלַח׃

25Eber, Peleg, Reu,

25עֵ֥בֶר פֶּ֖לֶג רְעֽוּ׃

26Serug, Nahor, Terah,

26שְׂר֥וּג נָח֖וֹר תָּֽרַח׃

27and Abram, later known as Abraham. Descendants of Abraham

27אַבְרָ֖ם ה֥וּא אַבְרָהָֽם׃ ס

28The sons of Abraham were Isaac and Ishmael.

28בְּנֵי֙ אַבְרָהָ֔ם יִצְחָ֖ק וְיִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃ ס

29These are their genealogical records: The sons of Ishmael were Nebaioth (the oldest), Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

29אֵ֖לֶּה תֹּלְדוֹתָ֑ם בְּכ֤וֹר יִשְׁמָעֵאל֙ נְבָי֔וֹת וְקֵדָ֥ר וְאַדְבְּאֵ֖ל וּמִבְשָֽׂם׃

30Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,

30מִשְׁמָ֣ע וְדוּמָ֔ה מַשָּׂ֖א חֲדַ֥ד וְתֵימָֽא׃

31Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These were the sons of Ishmael.

31יְט֥וּר נָפִ֖ישׁ וָקֵ֑דְמָה אֵ֥לֶּה הֵ֖ם בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃ ס

32The sons of Keturah, Abraham’s concubine, were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. The sons of Jokshan were Sheba and Dedan.

32וּבְנֵ֨י קְטוּרָ֜ה פִּילֶ֣גֶשׁ אַבְרָהָ֗ם יָלְדָ֞ה אֶת־ זִמְרָ֧ן וְיָקְשָׁ֛ן וּמְדָ֥ן וּמִדְיָ֖ן וְיִשְׁבָּ֣ק וְשׁ֑וּחַ וּבְנֵ֥י יָקְשָׁ֖ן שְׁבָ֥א וּדְדָֽן׃ ס

33The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were descendants of Abraham through his concubine Keturah. Descendants of Isaac

33וּבְנֵ֣י מִדְיָ֗ן עֵיפָ֤ה וָעֵ֙פֶר֙ וַחֲנ֔וֹךְ וַאֲבִידָ֖ע וְאֶלְדָּעָ֑ה כָּל־ אֵ֖לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י קְטוּרָֽה׃ ס

34Abraham was the father of Isaac. The sons of Isaac were Esau and Israel. Descendants of Esau

34וַיּ֥וֹלֶד אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֶת־ יִצְחָ֑ק ס בְּנֵ֣י יִצְחָ֔ק עֵשָׂ֖ו וְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ ס

35The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

35בְּנֵ֖י עֵשָׂ֑ו אֱלִיפַ֛ז רְעוּאֵ֥ל וִיע֖וּשׁ וְיַעְלָ֥ם וְקֹֽרַח׃ ס

36The descendants of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, Kenaz, and Amalek, who was born to Timna.

36בְּנֵ֖י אֱלִיפָ֑ז תֵּימָ֤ן וְאוֹמָר֙ צְפִ֣י וְגַעְתָּ֔ם קְנַ֖ז וְתִמְנָ֥ע וַעֲמָלֵֽק׃ ס

37The descendants of Reuel were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. Original Peoples of Edom

37בְּנֵ֖י רְעוּאֵ֑ל נַ֥חַת זֶ֖רַח שַׁמָּ֥ה וּמִזָּֽה׃ ס

38The descendants of Seir were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.

38וּבְנֵ֣י שֵׂעִ֔יר לוֹטָ֥ן וְשׁוֹבָ֖ל וְצִבְע֣וֹן וַֽעֲנָ֑ה וְדִישֹׁ֥ן וְאֵ֖צֶר וְדִישָֽׁן׃

39The descendants of Lotan were Hori and Hemam. Lotan’s sister was named Timna.

39וּבְנֵ֥י לוֹטָ֖ן חֹרִ֣י וְהוֹמָ֑ם וַאֲח֥וֹת לוֹטָ֖ן תִּמְנָֽע׃ ס

40The descendants of Shobal were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. The descendants of Zibeon were Aiah and Anah.

40בְּנֵ֣י שׁוֹבָ֔ל עַלְיָ֧ן וּמָנַ֛חַת וְעֵיבָ֖ל שְׁפִ֣י וְאוֹנָ֑ם ס וּבְנֵ֥י צִבְע֖וֹן אַיָּ֥ה וַעֲנָֽה׃

41The son of Anah was Dishon. The descendants of Dishon were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.

41בְּנֵ֥י עֲנָ֖ה דִּישׁ֑וֹן ס וּבְנֵ֣י דִישׁ֔וֹן חַמְרָ֥ן וְאֶשְׁבָּ֖ן וְיִתְרָ֥ן וּכְרָֽן׃ ס

42The descendants of Ezer were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan. The descendants of Dishan were Uz and Aran. Rulers of Edom

42בְּֽנֵי־ אֵ֔צֶר בִּלְהָ֥ן וְזַעֲוָ֖ן יַעֲקָ֑ן בְּנֵ֥י דִישׁ֖וֹן ע֥וּץ וַאֲרָֽן׃ פ

43These are the kings who ruled in the land of Edom before any king ruled over the Israelites : Bela son of Beor, who ruled from his city of Dinhabah.

43וְאֵ֣לֶּה הַמְּלָכִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר מָלְכוּ֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ אֱד֔וֹם לִפְנֵ֥י מְלָךְ־ מֶ֖לֶךְ לִבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל בֶּ֚לַע בֶּן־ בְּע֔וֹר וְשֵׁ֥ם עִיר֖וֹ דִּנְהָֽבָה׃

44When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah became king in his place.

44וַיָּ֖מָת בָּ֑לַע וַיִּמְלֹ֣ךְ תַּחְתָּ֔יו יוֹבָ֥ב בֶּן־ זֶ֖רַח מִבָּצְרָֽה׃

45When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites became king in his place.

45וַיָּ֖מָת יוֹבָ֑ב וַיִּמְלֹ֣ךְ תַּחְתָּ֔יו חוּשָׁ֖ם מֵאֶ֥רֶץ הַתֵּימָנִֽי׃

46When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad became king in his place and ruled from the city of Avith. He was the one who destroyed the Midianite army in the land of Moab.

46וַיָּ֖מָת חוּשָׁ֑ם וַיִּמְלֹ֨ךְ תַּחְתָּ֜יו הֲדַ֣ד בֶּן־ בְּדַ֗ד הַמַּכֶּ֤ה אֶת־ מִדְיָן֙ בִּשְׂדֵ֣ה מוֹאָ֔ב וְשֵׁ֥ם עִיר֖וֹ [עיות] (עֲוִֽית׃)

47When Hadad died, Samlah from the city of Masrekah became king in his place.

47וַיָּ֖מָת הֲדָ֑ד וַיִּמְלֹ֣ךְ תַּחְתָּ֔יו שַׂמְלָ֖ה מִמַּשְׂרֵקָֽה׃

48When Samlah died, Shaul from the city of Rehoboth-on-the-River became king in his place.

48וַיָּ֖מָת שַׂמְלָ֑ה וַיִּמְלֹ֣ךְ תַּחְתָּ֔יו שָׁא֖וּל מֵרְחֹב֥וֹת הַנָּהָֽר׃

49When Shaul died, Baal-hanan son of Acbor became king in his place.

49וַיָּ֖מָת שָׁא֑וּל וַיִּמְלֹ֣ךְ תַּחְתָּ֔יו בַּ֥עַל חָנָ֖ן בֶּן־ עַכְבּֽוֹר׃

50When Baal-hanan died, Hadad became king in his place and ruled from the city of Pau. His wife was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred and granddaughter of Me-zahab.

50וַיָּ֙מָת֙ בַּ֣עַל חָנָ֔ן וַיִּמְלֹ֤ךְ תַּחְתָּיו֙ הֲדַ֔ד וְשֵׁ֥ם עִיר֖וֹ פָּ֑עִי וְשֵׁ֨ם אִשְׁתּ֤וֹ מְהֵיטַבְאֵל֙ בַּת־ מַטְרֵ֔ד בַּ֖ת מֵ֥י זָהָֽב׃

51Then Hadad died. The clan leaders of Edom were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

51וַיָּ֖מָת הֲדָ֑ד ס וַיִּהְיוּ֙ אַלּוּפֵ֣י אֱד֔וֹם אַלּ֥וּף תִּמְנָ֛ע אַלּ֥וּף [עליה] (עַֽלְוָ֖ה) אַלּ֥וּף יְתֵֽת׃

52Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,

52אַלּ֧וּף אָהֳלִיבָמָ֛ה אַלּ֥וּף אֵלָ֖ה אַלּ֥וּף פִּינֹֽן׃

53Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,

53אַלּ֥וּף קְנַ֛ז אַלּ֥וּף תֵּימָ֖ן אַלּ֣וּף מִבְצָֽר׃

54Magdiel, and Iram. These are the clan leaders of Edom.

54אַלּ֥וּף מַגְדִּיאֵ֖ל אַלּ֣וּף עִירָ֑ם אֵ֖לֶּה אַלּוּפֵ֥י אֱדֽוֹם׃ פ
