Solomon Admires His Bride

The Bridegroom

1  הִנָּ֨ךְ (Behold) יָפָ֤ה (you are beautiful), רַעְיָתִי֙ (my darling);

הִנָּ֣ךְ (behold), יָפָ֔ה (you are beautiful)!

עֵינַ֣יִךְ (Your eyes) יוֹנִ֔ים (are doves)

מִבַּ֖עַד (behind) לְצַמָּתֵ֑ךְ (your veil);

שַׂעְרֵךְ֙ (your hair is) כְּעֵ֣דֶר (like a flock) הָֽעִזִּ֔ים (of the goats)

שֶׁגָּלְשׁ֖וּ (streaming down) מֵהַ֥ר (from Mount) גִּלְעָֽד׃ (Gilead).

2  שִׁנַּ֙יִךְ֙ (Your teeth are) כְּעֵ֣דֶר (like a flock) הַקְּצוּב֔וֹת (shorn),

שֶׁעָל֖וּ (having come up) מִן־ (from) הָרַחְצָ֑ה (the washing);

שֶׁכֻּלָּם֙ (all of which) מַתְאִימ֔וֹת (have twins),

וְשַׁכֻּלָ֖ה (a bereaved one) אֵ֥ין (there is not) בָּהֶֽם׃ (among them).

3  כְּח֤וּט (Like a thread) הַשָּׁנִי֙ (of scarlet) שִׂפְתֹתַ֔יִךְ (are your lips),

וּמִדְבָּרֵ֖יךְ (and your mouth) נָאוֶ֑ה (is lovely).

כְּפֶ֤לַח (Like the halves) הָֽרִמּוֹן֙ (of the pomegranate) רַקָּתֵ֔ךְ (is your temple)

מִבַּ֖עַד (behind) לְצַמָּתֵֽךְ׃ (your veil).

4  כְּמִגְדַּ֤ל (Like the tower) דָּוִיד֙ (of David) צַוָּארֵ֔ךְ (is your neck),

בָּנ֖וּי (built) לְתַלְפִּיּ֑וֹת (with rows of stones);

אֶ֤לֶף (a thousand) הַמָּגֵן֙ (shields) תָּל֣וּי (hang) עָלָ֔יו (on it),

כֹּ֖ל (all) שִׁלְטֵ֥י (the shields) הַגִּבּוֹרִֽים׃ (of the mighty ones).

5  שְׁנֵ֥י (The two of) שָׁדַ֛יִךְ (your breasts) כִּשְׁנֵ֥י (are like two) עֳפָרִ֖ים (fawns),

תְּאוֹמֵ֣י (twins) צְבִיָּ֑ה (of a gazelle) הָרוֹעִ֖ים (grazing) בַּשּׁוֹשַׁנִּֽים׃ (among the lilies).

6  עַ֤ד (Until) שֶׁיָּפ֙וּחַ֙ (when breathes), הַיּ֔וֹם (the day) וְנָ֖סוּ (flee) הַצְּלָלִ֑ים (the shadows),

אֵ֤לֶךְ (I will go) לִי֙ (my way)

אֶל־ (to) הַ֣ר (the mountain) הַמּ֔וֹר (of myrrh), וְאֶל־ (and to)

גִּבְעַ֖ת (the hill) הַלְּבוֹנָֽה׃ (of frankincense).

7  כֻּלָּ֤ךְ (All of you) יָפָה֙ (is beautiful), רַעְיָתִ֔י (my darling),

וּמ֖וּם (and a blemish) אֵ֥ין (is not) בָּֽךְ׃ס (on you).

8  אִתִּ֤י (With me) מִלְּבָנוֹן֙ (from Lebanon) כַּלָּ֔ה (my bride), אִתִּ֖י (with me)

מִלְּבָנ֣וֹן (from Lebanon) תָּב֑וֹאִי (come).

תָּשׁ֣וּרִי׀ (Descend) מֵרֹ֣אשׁ (from the top) אֲמָנָ֗ה (of Amana),

מֵרֹ֤אשׁ (from the top) שְׂנִיר֙ (of Senir) וְחֶרְמ֔וֹן (and Hermon),

מִמְּעֹנ֣וֹת (from the dens) אֲרָי֔וֹת (of the lions)

מֵֽהַרְרֵ֖י (from the mountains) נְמֵרִֽים׃ (of the leopards).

9  לִבַּבְתִּ֖נִי (You have captured my heart),

אֲחֹתִ֣י (my sister), כַלָּ֑ה (my bride);

לִבַּבְתִּ֙ינִי֙ (you have captured my heart) בְּאַחַד (with one) מֵעֵינַ֔יִךְ (of your eyes),

בְּאַחַ֥ד (with one) עֲנָ֖ק (jewel) מִצַּוְּרֹנָֽיִךְ׃ (of your neck).

10  מַה־ (How) יָּפ֥וּ (beautiful) דֹדַ֖יִךְ (is your love),

אֲחֹתִ֣י (my sister), כַלָּ֑ה (my bride)!

מַה־ (How much) טֹּ֤בוּ (better is) דֹדַ֙יִךְ֙ (your love) מִיַּ֔יִן (than wine),

וְרֵ֥יחַ (and the scent) שְׁמָנַ֖יִךְ (of your oils) מִכָּל־ (than all) בְּשָׂמִֽים׃ (spices)!

11  נֹ֛פֶת (Nectar) תִּטֹּ֥פְנָה (drip with) שִׂפְתוֹתַ֖יִךְ (your lips),

כַּלָּ֑ה (my bride);

דְּבַ֤שׁ (honey) וְחָלָב֙ (and milk are) תַּ֣חַת (under) לְשׁוֹנֵ֔ךְ (your tongue),

וְרֵ֥יחַ (and the fragrance) שַׂלְמֹתַ֖יִךְ (of your garments)

כְּרֵ֥יחַ (is like the fragrance) לְבָנֽוֹן׃ס (of Lebanon).

12  גַּ֥ן׀ (A garden) נָע֖וּל (locked up) אֲחֹתִ֣י (is my sister), כַלָּ֑ה (my bride)—

גַּ֥ל (a spring) נָע֖וּל (locked up), מַעְיָ֥ן (a fountain) חָתֽוּם׃ (sealed).

13  שְׁלָחַ֙יִךְ֙ (Your shoots are) פַּרְדֵּ֣ס (an orchard) רִמּוֹנִ֔ים (of pomegranates),

עִ֖ם (with) פְּרִ֣י (fruits) מְגָדִ֑ים (the choicest), כְּפָרִ֖ים (henna) עִם־ (with) נְרָדִֽים׃ (nard)—

14  נֵ֣רְדְּ׀ (nard) וְכַרְכֹּ֗ם (and saffron), קָנֶה֙ (calamus) וְקִנָּמ֔וֹן (and cinnamon),

עִ֖ם (with) כָּל־ (all) עֲצֵ֣י (trees) לְבוֹנָ֑ה (of frankincense),

מֹ֚ר (myrrh) וַאֲהָל֔וֹת (and aloes),

עִ֖ם (with) כָּל־ (all) רָאשֵׁ֥י (the finest) בְשָׂמִֽים׃ (spices),

15  מַעְיַ֣ן (a fountain) גַּנִּ֔ים (of gardens),

בְּאֵ֖ר (a well) מַ֣יִם (of water) חַיִּ֑ים (living)

וְנֹזְלִ֖ים (and flowing down) מִן־ (from) לְבָנֽוֹן׃ (Lebanon).

The Bride

16  ע֤וּרִי (Awake), צָפוֹן֙ (north wind),

וּב֣וֹאִי (and come), תֵימָ֔ן (south wind).

הָפִ֥יחִי (Breathe on) גַנִּ֖י (my garden),

יִזְּל֣וּ (that may flow out) בְשָׂמָ֑יו (its spices).

יָבֹ֤א (Let come) דוֹדִי֙ (my beloved) לְגַנּ֔וֹ (to his garden),

וְיֹאכַ֖ל (and eat) פְּרִ֥י (the fruit) מְגָדָֽיו׃ (of its excellencies).
