Berean Study Bible Daniel’s Vision of the Four BeastsBelshazzar served as co-regent with his father, Nabonidus, beginning about 553 BC. Babylon still appeared powerful, yet its empire was weakening and would fall to the Medes and Persians within two decades. The setting places Daniel’s vision during the final years of Babylonian rule and reveals God’s authority over kingdoms before their rise and fall became visible in history. Dan 5:1 Later, King Belshazzar held a great feast… Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he lay on his bed. God gave Daniel a revelation through a dream containing symbolic visions of future kingdoms, their conflict with God’s people, and their eventual judgment. Though Daniel had interpreted dreams for others, he now received a message concerning events extending beyond Babylon and reaching toward God’s everlasting kingdom. Dan 2:19 During the night, the mystery was revealed to Daniel… He wrote down the dream, Daniel preserved the revelation so that its message would remain available to God’s people. The written record established the vision as more than a private experience and prepared later generations to recognize God’s purposes in the course of history. Hab 2:2 Then the LORD answered me: “Write down this vision… and this is the summary of his account. What follows presents the central content of the vision: earthly empires arise for a time, oppose the saints, and are judged by God, while dominion is finally given to the Son of Man and to the saints of the Most High. Luk 1:1-4 Many have undertaken to compose an account… Daniel declared: Daniel, living in exile under Babylonian rule, records a revelation God gave him concerning the course of world empires. As a prophet, he was entrusted with visions that disclosed events beyond his own generation. Dan 8:1 In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar,… “In my vision in the night I looked, During the night Daniel received a vivid revelation from God. What he saw concerned kingdoms that would arise and affect Israel and the surrounding nations. Dan 2:19 During the night, the mystery was revealed to Daniel… and suddenly the four winds of heaven The winds came from every direction under God’s command, signaling that the upheaval about to occur was governed by His sovereign purpose. Dan 8:8 Thus the goat became very great, but at the height… were churning up the great sea. The troubled sea portrays the restless nations of the world. From this turmoil would emerge four great kingdoms, each rising through conflict and exercising power for an appointed time. Psa 107:25 For He spoke and raised a tempest that lifted… Then four great beasts Four successive world empires rise to dominate the course of history. Their appearance as beasts portrays the brutal, predatory character of human rule apart from God. The kingdoms correspond to Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome, paralleling the sequence revealed in Nebuchadnezzar’s statue dream. Dan 2:40-44 Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom as strong as iron;… came up out of the sea, The sea depicts the restless nations and conflicts from which these empires emerge. Their rise is marked by warfare, upheaval, and the struggle for dominion among the peoples of the earth. Rev 17:15 Then the angel said to me, “The waters you saw… each one different from the others: Though each kingdom exercises vast authority, each possesses its own character, methods, culture, and historical role. Together they show the progression of Gentile rule leading toward God’s final judgment of earthly kingdoms and the establishment of His everlasting kingdom. Dan 2:39-40 But after you, there will arise another kingdom… The first beast was like a lion, The first beast, like a lion, represents Babylon, the first kingdom in Daniel’s vision. Its lionlike form reflects the empire’s royal power, military strength, and dominance under Nebuchadnezzar. Jer 4:7 A lion has gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer… and it had the wings of an eagle. The eagle’s wings portray Babylon’s swift rise and far-reaching conquests. Exo 19:4 You have seen for yourselves what I did to Egypt,… I watched until its wings were torn off Babylon’s power was restrained by God, seen especially in Nebuchadnezzar’s humbling when his pride brought him low. Jer 49:16 The terror you cause and the pride of your heart… and it was lifted up from the ground After acknowledging God’s rule, Nebuchadnezzar was restored to his kingdom. Psa 113:7-8 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy… and made to stand on two feet like a man The beast’s change from an animal posture to a human one reflects the king’s recovery from his beastlike condition. Ezk 2:1-2 “Son of man,” He said to me, “stand up on your feet”… and given the mind of a man. Nebuchadnezzar regained his reason and recognized that the Most High rules over earthly kingdoms. Dan 4:34 But at the end of those days I, Nebuchadnezzar,… Suddenly another beast appeared, which looked like a bear. The bear represents the Medo-Persian Empire, which succeeded Babylon. Its powerful and threatening form reflects the military force through which the Medes and Persians rapidly extended their rule over the ancient world. Hos 13:8 Like a bear robbed of her cubs I will attack them,… It was raised up on one of its sides, The uneven posture portrays the unequal partnership of the two peoples. Though the Medes were initially prominent, Persia became the stronger power and directed the empire’s expansion under rulers such as Cyrus. Dan 8:3 Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a ram with two horns… and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. The ribs point to major kingdoms consumed by Medo-Persian conquest, commonly identified as Lydia, Babylon, and Egypt. Having them clenched in its teeth presents an empire strengthened by the lands and peoples it had subdued. Mic 3:2-3 You hate good and love evil. You tear the skin… So it was told, ‘Get up and gorge yourself on flesh!’ The command reflects God’s sovereign purpose in permitting the empire’s continued advance. Medo-Persia would not remain content with Babylon’s territory but would conquer widely, becoming the dominant world power of its day. Ezk 39:17-20 And as for you, son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says:… Next, as I watched, suddenly another beast appeared. A third kingdom rises swiftly after the lion and bear, continuing the sequence of world empires revealed to Daniel. Rev 13:11 Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth.… It was like a leopard, The leopard depicts the speed and striking power of the Greek Empire, especially under Alexander the Great, whose armies conquered the Persian realm and extended Greek rule across vast territories in a remarkably short time. Rev 13:2 The beast I saw was like a leopard, with the feet of a bear… and on its back it had four wings like those of a bird. The added wings emphasize the extraordinary speed and reach of Alexander’s campaigns, which carried Greek power from Macedonia through Asia Minor, Egypt, Persia, and toward India. Ezk 1:6 but each had four faces and four wings. The beast also had four heads, After Alexander’s death, his empire did not remain united but was divided among four major rulers and dynasties associated with Cassander, Lysimachus, Seleucus, and Ptolemy. Dan 8:22 The four horns that replaced the broken one… and it was given authority to rule. Greek dominion was granted within God’s sovereign plan. Its rule reshaped the ancient world through military conquest, government, language, and culture. Rev 13:5 The beast was given a mouth to speak arrogant and… After this, as I watched in my vision in the night, Daniel received this revelation while asleep, as God unfolded the future course of Gentile world powers. Dan 2:19 During the night, the mystery was revealed to Daniel… suddenly a fourth beast appeared, and it was terrifying—dreadful and extremely strong— The fourth kingdom surpasses the others in its brutality, military power, and oppressive rule. It corresponds to Rome, whose authority spread across much of the known world and continued in forms beyond its ancient imperial structure. Hab 1:6-7 For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans—… with large iron teeth. Its power to break nations and enforce submission resembles iron: hard, relentless, and destructive. Dan 2:40 Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom as strong as iron;… It devoured and crushed; then it trampled underfoot whatever was left. Rome conquered its opponents thoroughly, absorbing territories, crushing resistance, and leaving little independence among the peoples under its control. Dan 2:34-35 As you watched, a stone was cut out, but not by human hands.… It was different from all the beasts before it, Unlike the earlier empires, this kingdom possessed an unusual endurance and a far-reaching system of rule that shaped lands and peoples long after its original empire declined. Rev 13:11 Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth.… and it had ten horns. The horns represent ten kings who arise from the fourth kingdom. They point to a later division or final development of this kingdom, in which ten rulers hold authority before the rise of the final ruler described in Daniel’s vision. Rev 17:3 And the angel carried me away in the Spirit… While I was contemplating the horns, Daniel carefully watched the rulers arising from the fourth kingdom, reflecting deeply on the vision of the four beasts, each representing a kingdom. Zec 1:18-21 Then I looked up and saw four horns.… suddenly another horn, a little one, came up among them, A final ruler emerges from among the ten kings, beginning with limited influence but quickly gaining power. Dan 8:9-12 From one of these horns a little horn emerged… and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. He removes three kings to establish his authority over the revived kingdom. Psa 75:10 All the horns of the wicked I will cut off…… This horn had eyes like those of a man He is an individual ruler marked by intelligence, calculation, and personal ambition. Daniel’s Vision of the Ancient of DaysDaniel’s vision proceeded from the rise of earthly kingdoms to the heavenly court that would judge them. Dan 8:15 While I, Daniel, was watching the vision… thrones were set in place, A royal court was assembled, with seats prepared for those participating in God’s judgment. Psa 122:5 For there the thrones of judgment stand… and the Ancient of Days took His seat. God appeared as the eternal King and Judge, sovereign over every ruler and kingdom. Psa 9:7 But the LORD abides forever; He has established His throne… His clothing was white as snow, His appearance displayed absolute holiness and purity. Mat 28:3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes… and the hair of His head was like pure wool. The white hair portrayed His eternal wisdom and authority. Rev 1:14 The hair of His head was white like wool, as white as snow,… His throne was flaming with fire, His throne revealed the holiness and righteous judgment that proceed from His presence. Ezk 1:26-28 Above the expanse over their heads was the likeness… and its wheels were all ablaze. The wheeled throne showed that God’s rule is active and unrestricted as He comes to judge the nations. Ezk 10:6 When the LORD commanded the man clothed in linen… A river of fire was flowing, coming out from His presence. The fire proceeding from God’s throne displays His holy power to judge evil and consume all impurity. Its continual flow portrays judgment as proceeding directly from His sovereign authority. Psa 50:3 Our God approaches and will not be silent!… Thousands upon thousands attended Him, Vast hosts of angels serve before God’s throne, carrying out His commands and displaying the order and majesty of heaven. Psa 68:17 The chariots of God are tens of thousands… and myriads upon myriads stood before Him. An immeasurable assembly stood in reverence before the eternal Judge. The scene includes the heavenly host gathered for the judgment decreed by God. Rev 5:11 Then I looked, and I heard the voices of many angels… The court was convened, God’s throne room became the setting for formal judgment against the arrogant earthly powers represented in Daniel’s vision. No ruler or kingdom stands beyond His authority. Psa 82:1 A Psalm of Asaph. God presides in the divine assembly;… and the books were opened. The records of deeds were brought forth before the Judge, revealing that God’s judgment is complete, righteous, and based on His perfect knowledge. Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing… Then I kept watching because of the arrogant words the horn was speaking. The little horn’s boastful defiance reveals its rebellion against God and its oppression of His people. Daniel’s attention remains fixed on it because its apparent power is nearing its appointed end. Rev 13:5-6 The beast was given a mouth to speak arrogant and… As I continued to watch, the beast was slain, The fourth beast, including the dominion of the little horn, is judged by God. Its destruction shows that no ruler, empire, or final rebellious power can resist the authority of the Ancient of Days. 2Th 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed… and its body was destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire. The beast’s kingdom is brought to a complete and irreversible end. The blazing fire portrays divine judgment, clearing the way for the everlasting rule given to the Son of Man. Rev 19:20 But the beast was captured along with the false prophet… As for the rest of the beasts, The earlier kingdoms had already lost their ruling power before the final judgment fell on the fourth beast. Babylon gave way to Medo-Persia, Medo-Persia to Greece, and Greece was divided into smaller kingdoms. Dan 2:39-40 But after you, there will arise another kingdom… their dominion was removed, Each empire fell according to God’s appointed purpose, losing the authority it once held over other nations. Dan 5:26-28 And this is the interpretation of the message:… but they were granted an extension of life Their political power ended, yet their peoples, territories, and cultural influence remained for a time under succeeding rulers. Dan 4:34-37 But at the end of those days I, Nebuchadnezzar,… for a season and a time. Their continued existence was limited and governed by God’s fixed order for history, until the everlasting kingdom of the Son of Man would replace all earthly dominion. Daniel’s Vision of the Son of ManDaniel received a heavenly revelation as the final judgment of the kingdoms of the world unfolded before him. Dan 2:19 During the night, the mystery was revealed to Daniel… I continued to watch, He remained fixed on the scene as it moved from the judgment of the beasts to the establishment of God’s everlasting kingdom. Hab 2:1 I will stand at my guard post and station myself… and I saw One like the Son of Man A human-like heavenly ruler appeared, distinct from the Ancient of Days yet sharing divine authority. He is the Messiah, Jesus Christ, who represents mankind and reigns over it. Rev 1:13 and among the lampstands was One like the Son of Man,… coming with the clouds of heaven. He comes in divine glory and authority, not as an earthly conqueror raised by human power. Mat 26:64 “You have said it yourself,” Jesus answered.… He approached the Ancient of Days The Son of Man entered the presence of the eternal God, showing both distinction of persons and unity in the rule of heaven. Rev 5:6-7 Then I saw a Lamb who appeared to have been slain,… and was led into His presence. He was formally presented before the divine throne to receive dominion, glory, and an everlasting kingdom. Heb 9:24 For Christ did not enter a man-made copy… And He was given dominion, glory, and kingship, Daniel sees the Son of Man receive royal authority from the Ancient of Days. His rule is granted by God Himself, fulfilling the promised reign of David’s greater Son over all creation. Mat 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven… that the people of every nation and language should serve Him. His kingdom extends beyond Israel to every people and land. The vision looks forward to the worldwide acknowledgment of the Messiah’s authority. Psa 22:27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD… His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, Unlike the empires symbolized by the beasts, His reign has no successor or end. God establishes His authority permanently. Dan 4:3 How great are His signs, how mighty His wonders!… and His kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. No earthly power can overcome or replace this kingdom. Daniel’s vision assures God’s people that the final rule belongs to the Messiah. Dan 2:44 In the days of those kings, the God of heaven…
Daniel’s Visions InterpretedDaniel was deeply troubled by what he had seen. Though the vision revealed God’s authority over earthly kingdoms, it also exposed the violence, arrogance, and judgment connected with their rise and fall. The burden of receiving such knowledge affected him inwardly. Isa 54:6 For the LORD has called you back, like a wife deserted… and the visions in my mind alarmed me. The scenes of the four beasts, the heavenly court, and the coming judgment were vivid and disturbing. Daniel understood that the vision concerned real kingdoms and events yet to unfold, including suffering for God’s people before the final triumph of God’s everlasting kingdom. Dan 4:5 I had a dream, and it frightened me; while I was in my bed, the images and visions in my mind… I approached one of those who were standing there, Daniel sought clarification from an attendant in the heavenly court, evidently an angel assigned to explain the vision. Though Daniel had received the revelation, its full significance was not immediately clear to him. Zec 4:4-5 “What are these, my lord?” I asked the angel… and I asked him the true meaning of all this. The vision’s beasts, horns, judgment scene, and coming kingdom portrayed real kingdoms and events within God’s sovereign plan. Daniel recognized that the imagery required an authoritative explanation, highlighting the importance of seeking wisdom and understanding; its true meaning pointed beyond the surface imagery to a deeper spiritual significance. Dan 8:17-19 As he came near to where I stood, I was terrified… So he told me the interpretation of these things: The angel provided the meaning of the vision, identifying the kingdoms represented by the beasts and revealing their eventual replacement by the everlasting kingdom given to the saints of the Most High. Dan 2:19-23 During the night, the mystery was revealed to Daniel… ‘These four great beasts These four great beasts represent four successive world empires, paralleling the kingdoms symbolized by the statue in Daniel 2. Their beastlike forms portray the strength, violence, and oppressive rule often associated with imperial power. Rev 13:1-2 Then I saw a beast with ten horns and seven heads… are four kings The four kings represent the kingdoms and ruling powers of Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. Each would dominate Israel and the surrounding nations in turn. Dan 11:2-4 Now then, I will tell you the truth: Three more kings… who will arise The phrase “who will arise” points to the ordered rise of these empires under God’s sovereign direction throughout history. Dan 2:39-40 But after you, there will arise another kingdom… from the earth. Their authority is earthly, limited, and temporary, unlike the everlasting kingdom God will establish. Rev 13:11 Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth.… But the saints of the Most High God’s holy people are set apart as His own. In Daniel’s vision, they include the faithful among Israel who remain loyal to God amid the rule of hostile earthly kingdoms. Their identity rests on belonging to the Most High, the sovereign ruler over every nation and king. Psa 97:10 Hate evil, O you who love the LORD! He delivers them… will receive the kingdom After God judges the rebellious powers symbolized by the beasts, He grants dominion to His people under the reign of the Son of Man. What human rulers seized through violence is given by God according to His righteous decree. Heb 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom,… and possess it forever— Their rule will not resemble the temporary empires of Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, or Rome. God’s kingdom will endure without decline, defeat, or succession. Isa 60:21 Then all your people will be righteous;… yes, forever and ever.’ The repeated assurance emphasizes the permanent triumph of God’s rule and the lasting inheritance of His people. Heb 1:8 But about the Son He says: “Your throne, O God,… Then I wanted to know the true meaning of the fourth beast, Daniel was especially troubled by the final kingdom because of its unmatched violence and its place in the vision’s unfolding events. It rose after the kingdoms symbolized by the first three beasts and exercised authority unlike any before it. Dan 12:8-9 I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked… which was different from all the others—extremely terrifying— Its power exceeded that of Babylon, Medo-Persia, and Greece, displaying a ruthless ability to dominate peoples and nations. Rome historically reflected many of these features, though the vision also reaches toward the final world power opposed to God. Hab 1:6-7 For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans—… devouring and crushing with iron teeth and bronze claws, The iron and bronze portray overwhelming military strength and enduring authority. Like the iron kingdom in Nebuchadnezzar’s earlier dream, it broke weaker nations and absorbed their lands under its rule. Nothing escaped its reach; survivors, resources, and resistance were treated as objects to be crushed. Yet its apparent invincibility would not endure, for God would judge the beast and establish the everlasting kingdom of the Son of Man. Dan 8:13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one… I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head The ten horns are ten kings who arise from the fourth kingdom, the Roman Empire in its final form. They represent a confederation of rulers exercising authority at the end of the age. This ruler is the final Antichrist, who exalts himself, persecutes God’s people, and is ultimately judged by God. Dan 8:15 While I, Daniel, was watching the vision… this horn This horn represents the arrogant ruler who arises from the fourth kingdom and exercises authority in open rebellion against God. Dan 8:9 From one of these horns a little horn emerged… was waging war against the saints It describes his determined persecution of God’s faithful people during the final period of tribulation. Rev 13:7 Then the beast was permitted to wage war against the saints… and prevailing against them, This indicates that he will be permitted temporary success, bringing severe oppression and death to many, until God intervenes in judgment and establishes His kingdom. Rev 11:7 When the two witnesses have finished their testimony… until the Ancient of Days arrived God enters the heavenly court as the eternal and sovereign Judge, bringing an end to the arrogant rule of the little horn and the kingdoms opposed to Him. His arrival marks the decisive intervention of divine authority in human affairs. Isa 57:15 For thus says the One who is high and lifted up… and pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High, God vindicates His faithful people after their suffering under hostile powers. The persecuting ruler is judged, and the saints are publicly declared to belong to the Most High. Luk 18:7-8 Will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry out… and the time came for them to possess the kingdom. The dominion taken from the rebellious kingdoms is given to God’s people under the reign of the Son of Man. Their inheritance is not temporary but part of the everlasting kingdom established by God. Mat 25:34 Then the King will say to those on His right,… This is what he said: The angel gives Daniel the meaning of the vision, speaking with divine authority rather than offering human speculation. Dan 8:19 and said, “Behold, I will make known to you… ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on the earth, The beast represents a fourth world empire, following Babylon, Medo-Persia, and Greece. It is commonly identified with Rome, which arose after the Greek empire and exercised unmatched authority over the ancient world. Dan 2:40 Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom as strong as iron;… different from all the other kingdoms, Its power, organization, military strength, and enduring influence distinguished it from the empires before it. Rome ruled through force, law, taxation, and a far-reaching system of government. Jhn 18:36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world”… and it will devour the whole earth, Rome expanded across the Mediterranean world, subduing nations in Europe, North Africa, and Asia. Its dominion extended over the known world of Daniel’s prophetic horizon. Hab 1:6-7 For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans—… trample it down, and crush it. The kingdom would conquer and oppress peoples who resisted its rule. The image portrays ruthless political and military power, preparing for the later description of its divided form and the rise of the little horn. Dan 2:34-35 As you watched, a stone was cut out, but not by human hands.… And the ten horns are ten kings who will rise from this kingdom. The ten horns represent ten actual rulers who arise from the fourth kingdom, identified with the Roman Empire and its final form. Their rule marks a later stage of that empire’s authority, when power is divided among ten kings who hold influence at the same time. Rev 17:12 The ten horns you saw are ten kings… After them another king, different from the earlier ones, will rise and subdue three kings. A final ruler rises after the ten and gains supremacy by overthrowing three of them. His unusual character and rapid consolidation of power distinguish him from the other rulers. He becomes the dominant leader of the revived empire and stands in opposition to God and His people. Dan 8:23-25 In the latter part of their reign, when the rebellion… He will speak out against the Most High The coming ruler will openly defy God, exalting himself in rebellion and blasphemy. Daniel’s vision points beyond earlier persecutors to a final opponent of God’s rule. Rev 13:6 And the beast opened its mouth to speak blasphemies… and oppress the saints of the Most High, God’s faithful people will face severe persecution under his authority. Their suffering will be real, yet it will remain under God’s sovereign limits. Rev 13:7 Then the beast was permitted to wage war against the saints… intending to change the appointed times and laws; He will seek to overturn God-given worship, moral order, and religious observances, replacing them with demands that support his own rule. Gal 4:10 You are observing special days and months… and the saints will be given into his hand For a limited period, he will be permitted to exercise power over God’s people. This does not mean God has abandoned them, but that their trial serves His determined purpose. Dan 8:24 His power will be great, but it will not be his own.… for a time, and times, and half a time. The period is three and a half years, marking a definite but shortened season of tribulation before God brings the ruler’s dominion to an end. Rev 12:14 But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle… But the court will convene, God’s heavenly tribunal will sit in judgment over the arrogant ruler symbolized by the little horn. Though he exercises authority for a time and opposes God’s people, his power remains under God’s control. Psa 82:1 A Psalm of Asaph. God presides in the divine assembly;… and his dominion will be taken away The ruler’s authority will end by divine decree. No earthly kingdom, however powerful or oppressive, can resist God’s judgment or retain power beyond the time God has appointed. Ezk 21:26-27 This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Remove the turban,… and completely destroyed forever. His kingdom and rebellion will be brought to an irreversible end, clearing the way for the everlasting reign of the Son of Man and the saints. 2Th 1:9 They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction,… Then the sovereignty, dominion, and greatness of the kingdoms under all of heaven After the destruction of the final beast and the judgment of the nations, all earthly authority passes from rebellious human powers to God’s appointed rule. The dominion is universal, extending over every nation and kingdom. Dan 2:44 In the days of those kings, the God of heaven… will be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. God’s faithful people, long oppressed by worldly kingdoms, are vindicated and receive their promised inheritance. Their reign is joined to the rule of the Son of Man, whose kingdom has already been granted by the Ancient of Days. Luk 12:32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father… His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, Unlike Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and every later human power, this kingdom will not decline or be replaced. It is the final and enduring reign established by God. Psa 145:13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion… and all rulers will serve and obey Him.’ Every earthly authority will ultimately submit to the Most High. Human rebellion, pride, and persecution will end under the righteous government of God. Psa 72:11 May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him. Thus ends the matter. Daniel’s vision of the four beasts, the heavenly court, and the everlasting dominion given to the saints reaches its conclusion. The revelation establishes that earthly empires rise and fall under God’s authority, while His kingdom will not pass away. Ecc 12:13 When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter… As for me, Daniel, Daniel records his own response as the recipient of this revelation. Having served through the reigns of Babylonian and Persian rulers, he understood the reality of powerful kingdoms, yet the vision showed events beyond his own lifetime. Dan 10:2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three full weeks. my thoughts troubled me greatly, The scenes of the little horn, persecution, judgment, and future conflict deeply disturbed Daniel. Though God’s final victory was certain, the suffering and upheaval revealed in the vision weighed heavily on him. Dan 4:19 For a time, Daniel, who was also known as Belteshazzar,… and my face turned pale. The vision produced a visible physical response of fear and exhaustion. Daniel recognized that he had received a revelation from God concerning grave future events. Dan 10:8 So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision.… But I kept the matter to myself.” Daniel did not immediately disclose all that he had seen. He carried the burden of the vision privately, preserving it until God’s appointed time for its fuller understanding.
