1
Therefore,
holy
brothers,
who share
in [the] heavenly
calling,
set your focus on
Jesus,
the
apostle
and
high priest
whom we
confess.
1
Ὅθεν
ἀδελφοὶ
ἅγιοι
κλήσεως
ἐπουρανίου
μέτοχοι
κατανοήσατε
τὸν
Ἀπόστολον
καὶ
Ἀρχιερέα
τῆς
ὁμολογίας
ἡμῶν
Ἰησοῦν
2
He was
faithful
to the [One who]
appointed
Him,
just as
Moses
[was faithful]
in
all
[God’s]
house.
2
πιστὸν
ὄντα
τῷ
ποιήσαντι
αὐτὸν
ὡς
καὶ
Μωϋσῆς
ἐν
ὅλῳ
τῷ
οἴκῳ
αὐτοῦ
3
For
[Jesus]
has been counted worthy
of greater
glory
than
Moses,
just
as
the
builder
[of a house]
has
greater
honor
than the
house [itself].
3
Πλείονος
γὰρ
οὗτος
δόξης
παρὰ
Μωϋσῆν
ἠξίωται
καθ’
ὅσον
πλείονα
τιμὴν
ἔχει
τοῦ
οἴκου
ὁ
κατασκευάσας
αὐτόν
4
And
every
house
is built
by
someone,
but
God [is]
the
builder
of everything.
4
πᾶς
γὰρ
οἶκος
κατασκευάζεται
ὑπό
τινος
ὁ
δὲ
πάντα
κατασκευάσας
Θεός
5
Now
Moses
[was] faithful
as
a servant
in
all
[God’s]
house,
testifying
to what
would be spoken later.
5
Καὶ
Μωϋσῆς
μὲν
πιστὸς
ἐν
ὅλῳ
τῷ
οἴκῳ
αὐτοῦ
ὡς
θεράπων
εἰς
μαρτύριον
τῶν
λαληθησομένων
6
But
Christ [is faithful]
as
[the] Son
over
[God’s]
house.
[And] we
are
[His]
house,
if
we hold firmly
to [our]
confidence
and
the
hope
[of which]
we boast.
6
Χριστὸς
δὲ
ὡς
υἱὸς
ἐπὶ
τὸν
οἶκον
αὐτοῦ
οὗ
οἶκός
ἐσμεν
ἡμεῖς
ἐὰν
τὴν
παρρησίαν
καὶ
τὸ
καύχημα
τῆς
ἐλπίδος
〈μέχρι
τέλους
βεβαίαν〉
κατάσχωμεν
7
Therefore,
as
the
Holy
Spirit
says:
“Today,
if
you hear
His
voice,
7
Διό
καθὼς
λέγει
τὸ
Πνεῦμα
τὸ
Ἅγιον
Σήμερον
ἐὰν
τῆς
φωνῆς
αὐτοῦ
ἀκούσητε
8
[do] not
harden
your
hearts,
as [you did]
in
the
rebellion,
in
the
time
of testing
in
the
wilderness,
8
μὴ
σκληρύνητε
τὰς
καρδίας
ὑμῶν
ὡς
ἐν
τῷ
παραπικρασμῷ
κατὰ
τὴν
ἡμέραν
τοῦ
πειρασμοῦ
ἐν
τῇ
ἐρήμῳ
9
where
your
fathers
tested
[and]
tried [Me],
and
for forty
years
saw
My
works.
9
οὗ
ἐπείρασαν
οἱ
πατέρες
ὑμῶν
ἐν
δοκιμασίᾳ
καὶ
εἶδον
τὰ
ἔργα
μου
τεσσεράκοντα
ἔτη
10
Therefore
I was angry
with
that
generation,
and
I said,
‘Their
hearts
always
go astray,
and
they have not known
My
ways.’
10
διὸ
προσώχθισα
τῇ
γενεᾷ
ταύτῃ
καὶ
εἶπον
Ἀεὶ
πλανῶνται
τῇ
καρδίᾳ
αὐτοὶ
δὲ
οὐκ
ἔγνωσαν
τὰς
ὁδούς
μου
11
So
I swore on oath
in
My
anger,
‘They shall never enter
My
rest.’”
11
ὡς
ὤμοσα
ἐν
τῇ
ὀργῇ
μου
Εἰ
εἰσελεύσονται
εἰς
τὴν
κατάπαυσίν
μου
12
See to it,
brothers,
[that]
[none]
of you
has
a wicked
heart
of unbelief
that turns away
from
[the] living
God.
12
Βλέπετε
ἀδελφοί
μή‿
ποτε
ἔσται
ἔν
τινι
ὑμῶν
καρδία
πονηρὰ
ἀπιστίας
ἐν
τῷ
ἀποστῆναι
ἀπὸ
Θεοῦ
ζῶντος
13
But
exhort
one another
daily,
as long as
it is called
today,
so that
none
of
you
may be hardened
by sin’s
deceitfulness.
13
ἀλλὰ
παρακαλεῖτε
ἑαυτοὺς
καθ’
ἑκάστην
ἡμέραν
ἄχρις
οὗ
τὸ
Σήμερον
καλεῖται
ἵνα
μὴ
σκληρυνθῇ
τις
ἐξ
ὑμῶν
ἀπάτῃ
τῆς
ἁμαρτίας
14
We have come
to share
in Christ
if
we hold
firmly
to
[the] end
the
assurance
[we had] at first.
14
Μέτοχοι
γὰρ
τοῦ
Χριστοῦ
γεγόναμεν
ἐάνπερ
τὴν
ἀρχὴν
τῆς
ὑποστάσεως
μέχρι
τέλους
βεβαίαν
κατάσχωμεν
15
As
it has been said:
“Today,
if
you hear
His
voice,
{do} not
harden
your
hearts,
as [you did]
in
the
rebellion.”
15
ἐν
τῷ
λέγεσθαι
Σήμερον
ἐὰν
τῆς
φωνῆς
αὐτοῦ
ἀκούσητε
Μὴ
σκληρύνητε
τὰς
καρδίας
ὑμῶν
ὡς
ἐν
τῷ
παραπικρασμῷ
16
For
who were the ones who
heard
[and] rebelled?
[Were they] not
all
those
Moses
led
out of
Egypt?
16
Τίνες
γὰρ
ἀκούσαντες
παρεπίκραναν
ἀλλ’
οὐ
πάντες
οἱ
ἐξελθόντες
ἐξ
Αἰγύπτου
διὰ
Μωϋσέως
17
And
with whom
was [God] angry
for forty
years?
[Was it] not
with those who
sinned,
whose
bodies
fell
in
the
wilderness?
17
τίσιν
δὲ
προσώχθισεν
τεσσεράκοντα
ἔτη
οὐχὶ
τοῖς
ἁμαρτήσασιν
ὧν
τὰ
κῶλα
ἔπεσεν
ἐν
τῇ
ἐρήμῳ
18
And
to whom
did He swear [that they]
would never enter
His
rest?
[Was it]
not
to those who
disobeyed?
18
τίσιν
δὲ
ὤμοσεν
μὴ
εἰσελεύσεσθαι
εἰς
τὴν
κατάπαυσιν
αὐτοῦ
εἰ
μὴ
τοῖς
ἀπειθήσασιν
19
[So]
we see
that [it was]
because of
[their] unbelief
that they were unable
to enter.
19
καὶ
βλέπομεν
ὅτι
οὐκ
ἠδυνήθησαν
εἰσελθεῖν
δι’
ἀπιστίαν
