Give Thanks to Yahweh, for He Is Good

הַֽלְלוּיָ֨הּ׀ (Hallelujah)!

הוֹד֣וּ (Give thanks) לַיהוָ֣ה (to YHWH) כִּי־ (for) ט֑וֹב (He is good),

כִּ֖י (for) לְעוֹלָ֣ם (forever) חַסְדּֽוֹ׃ (is His loving devotion).

2  מִ֗י (Who) יְ֭מַלֵּל (can describe) גְּבוּר֣וֹת (the mighty acts) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH)?

יַ֝שְׁמִ֗יעַ (Who can sound) כָּל־ (all) תְּהִלָּתֽוֹ׃ (His praise)?

3  אַ֭שְׁרֵי (Blessed are) שֹׁמְרֵ֣י (those guarding) מִשְׁפָּ֑ט (justice),

עֹשֵׂ֖ה (doing) צְדָקָ֣ה (righteousness) בְכָל־ (at every) עֵֽת׃ (time).

4  זָכְרֵ֣נִי (Remember me), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH), בִּרְצ֣וֹן (in favor) עַמֶּ֑ךָ (to Your people);

פָּ֝קְדֵ֗נִי (attend to me) בִּישׁוּעָתֶֽךָ׃ (with Your salvation),

5  לִרְא֤וֹת׀ (to look) בְּט֘וֹבַ֤ת (on the prosperity) בְּחִירֶ֗יךָ (of Your chosen ones),

לִ֭שְׂמֹחַ (and to be glad) בְּשִׂמְחַ֣ת (in the gladness) גּוֹיֶ֑ךָ (of Your nation),

לְ֝הִתְהַלֵּ֗ל (and to glory) עִם־ (with) נַחֲלָתֶֽךָ׃ (Your inheritance).

6  חָטָ֥אנוּ (We have sinned) עִם־ (with) אֲבוֹתֵ֗ינוּ (our fathers),

הֶעֱוִ֥ינוּ (we have been perverse),

הִרְשָֽׁעְנוּ׃ (we have acted wickedly).

7  אֲב֘וֹתֵ֤ינוּ (Our fathers) בְמִצְרַ֨יִם׀ (in Egypt) לֹא־ (not) הִשְׂכִּ֬ילוּ (did consider) נִפְלְאוֹתֶ֗יךָ (Your wonders);

לֹ֣א (not) זָ֭כְרוּ (they did remember) אֶת־ (-) רֹ֣ב (the abundance) חֲסָדֶ֑יךָ (of Your kindness);

וַיַּמְר֖וּ (and they rebelled) עַל־ (by) יָ֣ם (the sea)—

בְּיַם־ (at the Sea) סֽוּף׃ (of Reeds).

8  וַֽ֭יּוֹשִׁיעֵם (And He saved them) לְמַ֣עַן (for the sake) שְׁמ֑וֹ (of His name),

לְ֝הוֹדִ֗יעַ (to make known) אֶת־ (-) גְּבוּרָתֽוֹ׃ (His might).

9  וַיִּגְעַ֣ר (And He rebuked) בְּיַם־ (the Sea) ס֭וּף (of Reeds), וַֽיֶּחֱרָ֑ב (and it dried up);

וַיּוֹלִיכֵ֥ם (and He made them walk) בַּ֝תְּהֹמ֗וֹת (through the depths) כַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃ (as through a desert).

10  וַֽ֭יּוֹשִׁיעֵם (And He saved them) מִיַּ֣ד (from the hand) שׂוֹנֵ֑א (of the one hating)

וַ֝יִּגְאָלֵ֗ם (and He redeemed them) מִיַּ֥ד (from the hand) אוֹיֵֽב׃ (of the enemy).

11  וַיְכַסּוּ־ (And covered) מַ֥יִם (the waters) צָרֵיהֶ֑ם (their enemies);

אֶחָ֥ד (one) מֵ֝הֶ֗ם (of them) לֹ֣א (not) נוֹתָֽר׃ (remained).

12  וַיַּאֲמִ֥ינוּ (And they had faith) בִדְבָרָ֑יו (in His words);

יָ֝שִׁ֗ירוּ (they sang) תְּהִלָּתֽוֹ׃ (His praise).

13  מִֽ֭הֲרוּ (They were quick) שָׁכְח֣וּ (to forget) מַעֲשָׂ֑יו (His works);

לֹֽא־ (and not) חִ֝כּ֗וּ (they have waited) לַעֲצָתֽוֹ׃ (for His counsel),

14  וַיִּתְאַוּ֣וּ (and they craved) תַ֭אֲוָה (with desire) בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר (in the wilderness)

וַיְנַסּוּ־ (and they tested) אֵ֝֗ל (God) בִּֽישִׁימֽוֹן׃ (in the desert).

15  וַיִּתֵּ֣ן (And He gave) לָ֭הֶם (to them) שֶׁאֱלָתָ֑ם (their request),

וַיְשַׁלַּ֖ח (and He sent) רָז֣וֹן (leanness) בְּנַפְשָֽׁם׃ (upon their soul).

16  וַיְקַנְא֣וּ (And they were jealous) לְ֭מֹשֶׁה (of Moses) בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה (in the camp),

לְ֝אַהֲרֹ֗ן (of Aaron) קְד֣וֹשׁ (the holy one) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

17  תִּפְתַּח־ (Opened up) אֶ֭רֶץ (the earth) וַתִּבְלַ֣ע (and swallowed) דָּתָ֑ן (Dathan),

וַ֝תְּכַ֗ס (and it covered) עַל־ (over) עֲדַ֥ת (the company) אֲבִירָֽם׃ (of Abiram).

18  וַתִּבְעַר־ (And was kindled) אֵ֥שׁ (a fire) בַּעֲדָתָ֑ם (in their company);

לֶ֝הָבָ֗ה (the flame) תְּלַהֵ֥ט (consumed) רְשָׁעִֽים׃ (the wicked).

19  יַעֲשׂוּ־ (They made) עֵ֥גֶל (a calf) בְּחֹרֵ֑ב (in Horeb)

וַ֝יִּשְׁתַּחֲו֗וּ (and they bowed down) לְמַסֵּכָֽה׃ (to a molten image).

20  וַיָּמִ֥ירוּ (And they exchanged) אֶת־ (-) כְּבוֹדָ֑ם (their Glory)

בְּתַבְנִ֥ית (for the image) שׁ֥וֹר (of an ox) אֹכֵ֥ל (eating) עֵֽשֶׂב׃ (grass).

21  שָׁ֭כְחוּ (They forgot) אֵ֣ל (God) מוֹשִׁיעָ֑ם (their Savior),

עֹשֶׂ֖ה (He having done) גְדֹל֣וֹת (great things) בְּמִצְרָֽיִם׃ (in Egypt),

22  נִ֭פְלָאוֹת (wonders) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) חָ֑ם (of Ham),

נ֝וֹרָא֗וֹת (awesome things) עַל־ (by) יַם־ (the Sea) סֽוּף׃ (of Reeds).

23  וַיֹּ֗אמֶר (And he said) לְֽהַשְׁמִ֫ידָ֥ם (he would destroy them)—

לוּלֵ֡י (had not) מֹ֘שֶׁ֤ה (Moses) בְחִיר֗וֹ (his chosen one)

עָמַ֣ד (stood) בַּפֶּ֣רֶץ (in the breach) לְפָנָ֑יו (before His face)

לְהָשִׁ֥יב (to turn away) חֲ֝מָת֗וֹ (His fury) מֵֽהַשְׁחִֽית׃ (from destroying them).

24  וַֽ֭יִּמְאֲסוּ (And they despised) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (the land) חֶמְדָּ֑ה (of the desire);

לֹֽא־ (not) הֶ֝אֱמִ֗ינוּ (were they faithful) לִדְבָרֽוֹ׃ (to His word),

25  וַיֵּרָגְנ֥וּ (and they grumbled) בְאָהֳלֵיהֶ֑ם (in their tents);

לֹ֥א (not) שָׁ֝מְע֗וּ (did they listen) בְּק֣וֹל (to the voice) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

26  וַיִּשָּׂ֣א (And He lifted up) יָד֣וֹ (His hand) לָהֶ֑ם (against them)

לְהַפִּ֥יל (to make fall) א֝וֹתָ֗ם (them) בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃ (in the desert),

27  וּלְהַפִּ֣יל (and to make fall) זַ֭רְעָם (their seed) בַּגּוֹיִ֑ם (among the nations),

וּ֝לְזָרוֹתָ֗ם (and to scatter them) בָּאֲרָצֽוֹת׃ (in the lands).

28  וַ֭יִּצָּ֣מְדוּ (And they even joined themselves) לְבַ֣עַל (to Baal-) פְּע֑וֹר (Peor),

וַ֝יֹּאכְל֗וּ (and they ate) זִבְחֵ֥י (sacrifices) מֵתִֽים׃ (to the dead).

29  וַ֭יַּכְעִיסוּ (And they provoked Him to anger) בְּמַֽעַלְלֵיהֶ֑ם (with their deeds),

וַתִּפְרָץ־ (and broke out) בָּ֝֗ם (among them) מַגֵּפָֽה׃ (a plague).

30  וַיַּעֲמֹ֣ד (And stood up) פִּֽ֭ינְחָס (Phinehas) וַיְפַלֵּ֑ל (and intervened),

וַ֝תֵּעָצַ֗ר (and was restrained) הַמַּגֵּפָֽה׃ (the plague).

31  וַתֵּחָ֣שֶׁב (And it was reckoned) ל֭וֹ (to him) לִצְדָקָ֑ה (as righteousness)

לְדֹ֥ר (to generation) וָ֝דֹ֗ר (and generation) עַד־ (even to) עוֹלָֽם׃ (forever).

32  וַ֭יַּקְצִיפוּ (And they caused wrath) עַל־ (at) מֵ֥י (the waters) מְרִיבָ֑ה (of Meribah),

וַיֵּ֥רַע (and it was evil) לְ֝מֹשֶׁ֗ה (to Moses) בַּעֲבוּרָֽם׃ (on account of them).

33  כִּֽי־ (For) הִמְר֥וּ (they rebelled against) אֶת־ (-) רוּח֑וֹ (His Spirit),

וַ֝יְבַטֵּ֗א (and he spoke rashly) בִּשְׂפָתָֽיו׃ (with his lips).

34  לֹֽא־ (Not) הִ֭שְׁמִידוּ (they did destroy) אֶת־ (-) הָֽעַמִּ֑ים (the peoples)

אֲשֶׁ֤ר (whom) אָמַ֖ר (had given the order) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) לָהֶֽם׃ (to them).

35  וַיִּתְעָרְב֥וּ (And they mingled) בַגּוֹיִ֑ם (with the nations)

וַֽ֝יִּלְמְד֗וּ (and they learned) מַֽעֲשֵׂיהֶֽם׃ (their works).

36  וַיַּעַבְד֥וּ (And they served) אֶת־ (-) עֲצַבֵּיהֶ֑ם (their idols)

וַיִּהְי֖וּ (and they were) לָהֶ֣ם (to them) לְמוֹקֵֽשׁ׃ (as a snare).

37  וַיִּזְבְּח֣וּ (And they sacrificed) אֶת־ (-) בְּ֭נֵיהֶם (their sons)

וְאֶת־ (and) בְּנֽוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם (their daughters) לַשֵּֽׁדִים׃ (to the demons).

38  וַיִּֽשְׁפְּכ֨וּ (And they shed) דָ֪ם (blood) נָקִ֡י (innocent),

דַּם־ (the blood) בְּנֵ֘יהֶ֤ם (of their sons) וּֽבְנוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם (and their daughters),

אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) זִ֭בְּחוּ (they sacrificed) לַעֲצַבֵּ֣י (to the idols) כְנָ֑עַן (of Canaan),

וַתֶּחֱנַ֥ף (and was polluted) הָ֝אָ֗רֶץ (the land) בַּדָּמִֽים׃ (with the blood).

39  וַיִּטְמְא֥וּ (And they were defiled) בְמַעֲשֵׂיהֶ֑ם (by their deeds)

וַ֝יִּזְנוּ֗ (and prostituted themselves) בְּמַֽעַלְלֵיהֶֽם׃ (by their practices).

40  וַיִּֽחַר־ (And was kindled) אַ֣ף (the anger) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) בְּעַמּ֑וֹ (against His people),

וַ֝יְתָעֵ֗ב (and He came to abhor) אֶת־ (-) נַחֲלָתֽוֹ׃ (His inheritance).

41  וַיִּתְּנֵ֥ם (And He gave them) בְּיַד־ (into the hand) גּוֹיִ֑ם (of the nations),

וַֽיִּמְשְׁל֥וּ (and ruled) בָ֝הֶ֗ם (over them) שֹׂנְאֵיהֶֽם׃ (those hating them).

42  וַיִּלְחָצ֥וּם (And oppressed them) אוֹיְבֵיהֶ֑ם (their enemies)

וַ֝יִּכָּנְע֗וּ (and they were humbled) תַּ֣חַת (under) יָדָֽם׃ (their hand).

43  פְּעָמִ֥ים (Times) רַבּ֗וֹת (many) יַצִּ֫ילֵ֥ם (He delivered them),

וְ֭הֵמָּה (and they) יַמְר֣וּ (were rebellious) בַעֲצָתָ֑ם (in their counsel)

וַ֝יָּמֹ֗כּוּ (and were brought low) בַּעֲוֺנָֽם׃ (in their iniquity).

44  וַ֭יַּרְא (And He looked) בַּצַּ֣ר (on the distress) לָהֶ֑ם (to them)

בְּ֝שָׁמְע֗וֹ (in His hearing) אֶת־ (-) רִנָּתָֽם׃ (their cry).

45  וַיִּזְכֹּ֣ר (And He remembered) לָהֶ֣ם (unto them) בְּרִית֑וֹ (His covenant)

וַ֝יִּנָּחֵ֗ם (and He relented) כְּרֹ֣ב (by the abundance) חַסְדּוֹ׃ (of His loving devotion).

46  וַיִּתֵּ֣ן (And He appointed) אוֹתָ֣ם (them) לְרַחֲמִ֑ים (for mercies)

לִ֝פְנֵ֗י (before the face) כָּל־ (of all) שׁוֹבֵיהֶֽם׃ (their captors).

47  הוֹשִׁיעֵ֨נוּ׀ (Save us), יְה֘וָ֤ה (O YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ (our God),

וְקַבְּצֵנוּ֮ (and gather us) מִֽן־ (from) הַגּ֫וֹיִ֥ם (the nations),

לְ֭הֹדוֹת (to give thanks) לְשֵׁ֣ם (to the name) קָדְשֶׁ֑ךָ (of Your holiness),

לְ֝הִשְׁתַּבֵּ֗חַ (to glory) בִּתְהִלָּתֶֽךָ׃ (in Your praise).

48  בָּר֤וּךְ־ (Blessed be) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֪י (the God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל (of Israel)

מִן־ (from) הָ֤עוֹלָ֨ם׀ (forever) וְעַ֬ד (and even to) הָעוֹלָ֗ם (forever).

וְאָמַ֖ר (And let say) כָּל־ (all) הָעָ֥ם (the people), אָמֵ֗ן (Amen)!

הַֽלְלוּ־ (Praise) יָֽהּ׃ (YAH).
