1Therefore, holy brothers and companions in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession;1Ὅθεν ἀδελφοὶ ἅγιοι κλήσεως ἐπουρανίου μέτοχοι κατανοήσατε τὸν Ἀπόστολον καὶ Ἀρχιερέα τῆς ὁμολογίας ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦν
2He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was in all God's household. 2πιστὸν ὄντα τῷ ποιήσαντι αὐτὸν ὡς καὶ Μωϋσῆς ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ
3For Jesus is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder has more honor than the house. 3Πλείονος γὰρ οὗτος δόξης παρὰ Μωϋσῆν ἠξίωται καθ’ ὅσον πλείονα τιμὴν ἔχει τοῦ οἴκου ὁ κατασκευάσας αὐτόν
4Now every house is built by someone, but the One who built everything is God.4πᾶς γὰρ οἶκος κατασκευάζεται ὑπό τινος ὁ δὲ πάντα κατασκευάσας Θεός
5Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's household, as a testimony to what would be said in the future.5Καὶ Μωϋσῆς μὲν πιστὸς ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ ὡς θεράπων εἰς μαρτύριον τῶν λαληθησομένων
6But Christ was faithful as a Son over His household. And we are that household if we hold on to the courage and the confidence of our hope. 6Χριστὸς δὲ ὡς υἱὸς ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ οὗ οἶκός ἐσμεν ἡμεῖς ἐὰν τὴν παρρησίαν καὶ τὸ καύχημα τῆς ἐλπίδος 〈μέχρι τέλους βεβαίαν〉 κατάσχωμεν
7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear His voice, 7Διό καθὼς λέγει τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον Σήμερον ἐὰν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκούσητε
8do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, 8μὴ σκληρύνητε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν ὡς ἐν τῷ παραπικρασμῷ κατὰ τὴν ἡμέραν τοῦ πειρασμοῦ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ
9where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works9οὗ ἐπείρασαν οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν ἐν δοκιμασίᾳ καὶ εἶδον τὰ ἔργα μου τεσσεράκοντα ἔτη
10for 40 years. Therefore I was provoked with that generation and said, "They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known My ways." 10διὸ προσώχθισα τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ καὶ εἶπον Ἀεὶ πλανῶνται τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοὶ δὲ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν τὰς ὁδούς μου
11So I swore in My anger, "They will not enter My rest." 11ὡς ὤμοσα ἐν τῇ ὀργῇ μου Εἰ εἰσελεύσονται εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσίν μου
12Watch out, brothers, so that there won't be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that departs from the living God. 12Βλέπετε ἀδελφοί μή‿ ποτε ἔσται ἔν τινι ὑμῶν καρδία πονηρὰ ἀπιστίας ἐν τῷ ἀποστῆναι ἀπὸ Θεοῦ ζῶντος
13But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin's deception.13ἀλλὰ παρακαλεῖτε ἑαυτοὺς καθ’ ἑκάστην ἡμέραν ἄχρις οὗ τὸ Σήμερον καλεῖται ἵνα μὴ σκληρυνθῇ τις ἐξ ὑμῶν ἀπάτῃ τῆς ἁμαρτίας
14For we have become companions of the Messiah if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start.14Μέτοχοι γὰρ τοῦ Χριστοῦ γεγόναμεν ἐάνπερ τὴν ἀρχὴν τῆς ὑποστάσεως μέχρι τέλους βεβαίαν κατάσχωμεν
15As it is said: Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. 15ἐν τῷ λέγεσθαι Σήμερον ἐὰν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκούσητε Μὴ σκληρύνητε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν ὡς ἐν τῷ παραπικρασμῷ
16For who heard and rebelled? Wasn't it really all who came out of Egypt under Moses?16Τίνες γὰρ ἀκούσαντες παρεπίκραναν ἀλλ’ οὐ πάντες οἱ ἐξελθόντες ἐξ Αἰγύπτου διὰ Μωϋσέως
17And who was He provoked with for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?17τίσιν δὲ προσώχθισεν τεσσεράκοντα ἔτη οὐχὶ τοῖς ἁμαρτήσασιν ὧν τὰ κῶλα ἔπεσεν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ
18And who did He swear to that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed? 18τίσιν δὲ ὤμοσεν μὴ εἰσελεύσεσθαι εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσιν αὐτοῦ εἰ μὴ τοῖς ἀπειθήσασιν
19So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. 19καὶ βλέπομεν ὅτι οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν εἰσελθεῖν δι’ ἀπιστίαν
