The Burden against Israel’s Enemies

1  מַשָּׂ֤א (The burden) דְבַר־ (of the word) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH)

בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (against the land) חַדְרָ֔ךְ (of Hadrach),

וְדַמֶּ֖שֶׂק (and Damascus) מְנֻחָת֑וֹ (its resting place)

כִּ֤י (For) לַֽיהוָה֙ (unto YHWH). עֵ֣ין (Is an eye on)

אָדָ֔ם (mankind), וְכֹ֖ל (and on all) שִׁבְטֵ֥י (the tribes)

יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel),

2  וְגַם־ (and) חֲמָ֖ת (Hamath)

תִּגְבָּל־ (that borders) בָּ֑הּ (on her)

צֹ֣ר (and Tyre), וְצִיד֔וֹן (and Sidon),

כִּ֥י (though) חָֽכְמָ֖ה (they are wise) מְאֹֽד׃ (very).

3  וַתִּ֥בֶן (And has built) צֹ֛ר (Tyre) מָצ֖וֹר (a tower), לָ֑הּ (for herself)

וַתִּצְבָּר־ (and she has heaped up) כֶּ֙סֶף֙ (silver) כֶּֽעָפָ֔ר (like the dust),

וְחָר֖וּץ (and gold) כְּטִ֥יט (like the mud) חוּצֽוֹת׃ (of the streets).

4  הִנֵּ֤ה (Behold), אֲדֹנָי֙ (the Lord) יֽוֹרִשֶׁ֔נָּה (will dispossess her),

וְהִכָּ֥ה (and cast) בַיָּ֖ם (into the sea); חֵילָ֑הּ (her wealth)

וְהִ֖יא (and she) בָּאֵ֥שׁ (by the fire) תֵּאָכֵֽל׃ (will be consumed).

5  תֵּרֶ֨א (Will see) אַשְׁקְל֜וֹן (Ashkelon) וְתִירָ֗א (and fear);

וְעַזָּה֙ (and also Gaza) וְתָחִ֣יל (and will writhe), מְאֹ֔ד (greatly),

וְעֶקְר֖וֹן (and Ekron);

כִּֽי־ (for) הֹבִ֣ישׁ (He has dried up); מֶבָּטָ֑הּ (her expectation)

וְאָ֤בַד (and will perish) מֶ֙לֶךְ֙ (the king) מֵֽעַזָּ֔ה (from Gaza)

וְאַשְׁקְל֖וֹן (and Ashkelon) לֹ֥א (not) תֵשֵֽׁב׃ (will be inhabited).

6  וְיָשַׁ֥ב (And will dwell) מַמְזֵ֖ר (a mixed race) בְּאַשְׁדּ֑וֹד (in Ashdod),

וְהִכְרַתִּ֖י (and I will cut off) גְּא֥וֹן (the pride) פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ (of the Philistines).

7  וַהֲסִרֹתִ֨י (And I will turn away) דָמָ֜יו (the blood) מִפִּ֗יו (from his mouth),

וְשִׁקֻּצָיו֙ (and the abominations) מִבֵּ֣ין (from between) שִׁנָּ֔יו (his teeth).

וְנִשְׁאַ֥ר (And the one who remains), גַּם־ (even) ה֖וּא (he), לֵֽאלֹהֵ֑ינוּ (is unto our God),

וְהָיָה֙ (and he will be) כְּאַלֻּ֣ף (like a clan) בִּֽיהוּדָ֔ה (in Judah),

וְעֶקְר֖וֹן (and Ekron) כִּיבוּסִֽי׃ (like a Jebusite).

8  וְחָנִ֨יתִי (And I will camp) לְבֵיתִ֤י (around My house) מִצָּבָה֙ (as a guard),

מֵעֹבֵ֣ר (against the one passing by), וּמִשָּׁ֔ב (and the one returning);

וְלֹֽא־ (and not) יַעֲבֹ֧ר (will pass) עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם (through them) ע֖וֹד (anymore), נֹגֵ֑שׂ (an oppressor)

כִּ֥י (for) עַתָּ֖ה (now) רָאִ֥יתִי (I look on) בְעֵינָֽי׃ס (with My own eyes).

Zion’s Coming King
(Matthew 21:1–11; Mark 11:1–11; Luke 19:28–40; John 12:12–19)

9  גִּילִ֨י (Rejoice) מְאֹ֜ד (greatly), בַּת־ (O daughter) צִיּ֗וֹן (of Zion);

הָרִ֙יעִי֙ (shout), בַּ֣ת (O daughter) יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם (of Jerusalem)!

הִנֵּ֤ה (Behold), מַלְכֵּךְ֙ (your King) יָ֣בוֹא (is coming) לָ֔ךְ (to you)

צַדִּ֥יק (righteous), וְנוֹשָׁ֖ע (and bearing salvation); ה֑וּא (He is)

עָנִי֙ (lowly), וְרֹכֵ֣ב (and riding) עַל־ (on) חֲמ֔וֹר (a donkey),

וְעַל־ (and on) עַ֖יִר (a colt) בֶּן־ (the foal) אֲתֹנֽוֹת׃ (of a donkey).

10  וְהִכְרַתִּי־ (And I will cut off) רֶ֣כֶב (the chariot) מֵאֶפְרַ֗יִם (from Ephraim)

וְסוּס֙ (and the horse) מִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם (from Jerusalem)

וְנִכְרְתָה֙ (and will be cut off); קֶ֣שֶׁת (the bow) מִלְחָמָ֔ה (of battle)

וְדִבֶּ֥ר (and He will speak) שָׁל֖וֹם (peace) לַגּוֹיִ֑ם (to the nations);

וּמָשְׁלוֹ֙ (and His dominion is) מִיָּ֣ם (from sea) עַד־ (to) יָ֔ם (sea),

וּמִנָּהָ֖ר (and from the River)

עַד־ (to) אַפְסֵי־ (the ends) אָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth).

11  גַּם־ (As also), אַ֣תְּ (for you)

בְּדַם־ (by the blood) בְּרִיתֵ֗ךְ (of your covenant)

שִׁלַּ֤חְתִּי (I will set free) אֲסִירַ֙יִךְ֙ (your prisoners) מִבּ֔וֹר (from the pit)

אֵ֥ין (without) מַ֖יִם (water) בּֽוֹ׃ (in it).

12  שׁ֚וּבוּ (So return) לְבִצָּר֔וֹן (to the stronghold),

אֲסִירֵ֖י (O prisoners) הַתִּקְוָ֑ה (of hope);

גַּם־ (even) הַיּ֕וֹם (this day) מַגִּ֥יד (I declare)

מִשְׁנֶ֖ה (that double) אָשִׁ֥יב (I will return) לָֽךְ׃ (to you).

13  כִּֽי־ (For) דָרַ֨כְתִּי (I have bent) לִ֜י (for Myself) יְהוּדָ֗ה (Judah) קֶ֚שֶׁת (as a bow)

מִלֵּ֣אתִי (I have filled it) אֶפְרַ֔יִם (with Ephraim),

וְעוֹרַרְתִּ֤י (and I have raised up) בָנַ֙יִךְ֙ (your sons), צִיּ֔וֹן (O Zion),

עַל־ (against) בָּנַ֖יִךְ (your sons), יָוָ֑ן (O Javan),

וְשַׂמְתִּ֖יךְ (and I have set) כְּחֶ֥רֶב (like the sword)

גִּבּֽוֹר׃ (of a mighty one).

Yahweh Will Save His People

14  וַֽיהוָה֙ (And YHWH) עֲלֵיהֶ֣ם (over them) יֵֽרָאֶ֔ה (will be seen)

וְיָצָ֥א (and will go forth) כַבָּרָ֖ק (like lightning); חִצּ֑וֹ (His arrow)

וַֽאדֹנָ֤י (and the Lord) יְהֹוִה֙ (YHWH) בַּשּׁוֹפָ֣ר (on the shofar), יִתְקָ֔ע (will blow)

וְהָלַ֖ךְ (and He will go forth) בְּסַעֲר֥וֹת (with storms) תֵּימָֽן׃ (from the south).

15  יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָאוֹת֮ (Hosts) יָגֵ֣ן (will give cover) עֲלֵיהֶם֒ (over them)

וְאָכְל֗וּ (and they will devour), וְכָֽבְשׁוּ֙ (and they will conquer) אַבְנֵי־ (with stones) קֶ֔לַע (of a sling);

וְשָׁת֥וּ (and they will drink), הָמ֖וּ (and roar) כְּמוֹ־ (as if) יָ֑יִן (with wine);

וּמָֽלְאוּ֙ (and they will be full) כַּמִּזְרָ֔ק (like a bowl),

כְּזָוִיּ֖וֹת (like the corners) מִזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (of the altar).

16  וְֽהוֹשִׁיעָ֞ם (And will save them) יְהוָ֧ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֛ם (their God) בַּיּ֥וֹם (on the day) הַה֖וּא (that)

כְּצֹ֣אן (as the flock) עַמּ֑וֹ (of His people);

כִּ֚י (indeed) אַבְנֵי־ (the stones) נֵ֔זֶר (of a diadem),

מִֽתְנוֹסְס֖וֹת (will be shining) עַל־ (over) אַדְמָתֽוֹ׃ (His land).

17  כִּ֥י (For) מַה־ (how great) טּוּב֖וֹ (His goodness),

וּמַה־ (and what) יָפְי֑וֹ (His beauty)!

דָּגָן֙ (Grain for) בַּֽחוּרִ֔ים (the young men)

וְתִיר֖וֹשׁ (and new wine) יְנוֹבֵ֥ב (will make flourish), בְּתֻלֽוֹת׃ (the young women).
