Elihu Rebukes Job
1 וְֽאוּלָ֗ם (But), שְׁמַֽע־ (hear) נָ֣א (please), אִיּ֣וֹב (O Job), מִלָּ֑י (my speech),
וְֽכָל־ (and to all) דְּבָרַ֥י (my words) הַאֲזִֽינָה׃ (give ear).
2 הִנֵּה־ (Behold) נָ֭א (now), פָּתַ֣חְתִּי (I open) פִ֑י (my mouth);
דִּבְּרָ֖ה (speaks) לְשׁוֹנִ֣י (my tongue) בְחִכִּֽי׃ (in my palate).
3 יֹֽשֶׁר־ (From the straightness) לִבִּ֥י (of my heart) אֲמָרָ֑י (are my words),
וְדַ֥עַת (and knowledge) שְׂ֝פָתַ֗י (my lips) בָּר֥וּר (being pure) מִלֵּֽלוּ׃ (speak).
4 רֽוּחַ־ (The Spirit) אֵ֥ל (of God) עָשָׂ֑תְנִי (has made me)
וְנִשְׁמַ֖ת (and the breath) שַׁדַּ֣י (of Shaddai) תְּחַיֵּֽנִי׃ (gives me life).
5 אִם־ (If) תּוּכַ֥ל (you are able) הֲשִׁיבֵ֑נִי (to refute me),
עֶרְכָ֥ה (arrange it) לְ֝פָנַ֗י (before my face); הִתְיַצָּֽבָה׃ (station yourself).
6 הֵן־ (Behold) אֲנִ֣י (I am) כְפִ֣יךָ (according to your mouth) לָאֵ֑ל (before God);
מֵ֝חֹ֗מֶר (from clay) קֹרַ֥צְתִּי (have I been formed) גַם־ (also) אָֽנִי׃ (I).
7 הִנֵּ֣ה (Behold), אֵ֭מָתִי (my terror) לֹ֣א (not) תְבַעֲתֶ֑ךָּ (should frighten you),
וְ֝אַכְפִּ֗י (and my hand) עָלֶ֥יךָ (on you) לֹא־ (not) יִכְבָּֽד׃ (shall be heavy).
8 אַ֭ךְ (Surely) אָמַ֣רְתָּ (you have spoken) בְאָזְנָ֑י (in my ears),
וְק֖וֹל (and the sound) מִלִּ֣ין (of the words) אֶשְׁמָֽע׃ (I have heard).
9 זַ֥ךְ (Pure) אֲנִ֗י (I am), בְּֽלִ֫י (without) פָ֥שַׁע (transgression),
חַ֥ף (clean); אָנֹכִ֑י (I am) וְלֹ֖א (and no) עָוֺ֣ן (iniquity is) לִֽי׃ (in me).
10 הֵ֣ן (Behold), תְּ֭נוּאוֹת (occasions) עָלַ֣י (against me) יִמְצָ֑א (He finds);
יַחְשְׁבֵ֖נִי (He reckons me) לְאוֹיֵ֣ב (as an enemy) לֽוֹ׃ (to Him).
11 יָשֵׂ֣ם (He puts) בַּסַּ֣ד (into the shackles) רַגְלָ֑י (my feet);
יִ֝שְׁמֹ֗ר (He watches) כָּל־ (all) אָרְחֹתָֽי׃ (my paths htm"> (.
12 הֶן־ (Behold), זֹ֣את (in this) לֹא־ (not) צָדַ֣קְתָּ (you are right);
אֶעֱנֶ֑ךָּ (I will answer you), כִּֽי־ (for) יִרְבֶּ֥ה (is greater) אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַ (God) מֵאֱנֽוֹשׁ׃ (than man).
13 מַ֭דּוּעַ (Why) אֵלָ֣יו (against Him) רִיב֑וֹתָ (do you contend)
כִּ֥י (for) כָל־ (all) דְּ֝בָרָ֗יו (words) לֹ֣א־ (not) יַעֲנֶֽה׃ (He does answer).
14 כִּֽי־ (For) בְאַחַ֥ת (once) יְדַבֶּר־ (speaks) אֵ֑ל (God)
וּ֝בִשְׁתַּ֗יִם (and twice), לֹ֣א (not) יְשׁוּרֶֽנָּה׃ (does one perceive it).
15 בַּחֲל֤וֹם׀ (In a dream),
חֶזְי֬וֹן (a vision) לַ֗יְלָה (of the night),
בִּנְפֹ֣ל (in the falling) תַּ֭רְדֵּמָה (of deep sleep) עַל־ (upon) אֲנָשִׁ֑ים (men),
בִּ֝תְנוּמ֗וֹת (in slumbers) עֲלֵ֣י (upon) מִשְׁכָּֽב׃ (a bed),
16 אָ֣ז (then) יִ֭גְלֶה (does He uncover) אֹ֣זֶן (the ear) אֲנָשִׁ֑ים (of men),
וּבְמֹ֖סָרָ֣ם (and with correction) יַחְתֹּֽם׃ (He seals them)
17 לְ֭הָסִיר (to turn aside) אָדָ֣ם (a man) מַעֲשֶׂ֑ה (from his doing),
וְגֵוָ֖ה (and pride) מִגֶּ֣בֶר (from a man) יְכַסֶּֽה׃ (to conceal).
18 יַחְשֹׂ֣ךְ (He holds back) נַ֭פְשׁוֹ (his soul) מִנִּי־ (from) שָׁ֑חַת (the Pit),
וְ֝חַיָּת֗וֹ (and his life) מֵעֲבֹ֥ר (from crossing over) בַּשָּֽׁלַח׃ (by a weapon).
19 וְהוּכַ֣ח (And he is churried) בְּ֭מַכְאוֹב (with pain) עַל־ (on) מִשְׁכָּב֑וֹ (his bed),
וְרִיב (and strife) עֲצָמָ֣יו (in his bones) אֵתָֽן׃ (is continual),
20 וְזִֽהֲמַ֣תּוּ (and abhors) חַיָּת֣וֹ (his life) לָ֑חֶם (bread),
וְ֝נַפְשׁ֗וֹ (and his soul) מַאֲכַ֥ל (food) תַּאֲוָֽה׃ (of desire).
21 יִ֣כֶל (Is consumed) בְּשָׂר֣וֹ (his flesh) מֵרֹ֑אִי (from sight),
וּשְׁפִי (and are laid bare) עַ֝צְמוֹתָ֗יו (his bones) לֹ֣א (that not) רֻאּֽוּ׃ (were seen).
22 וַתִּקְרַ֣ב (And draws near) לַשַּׁ֣חַת (to the pit) נַפְשׁ֑וֹ (his soul),
וְ֝חַיָּת֗וֹ (and his life) לַֽמְמִתִֽים׃ (to those causing death).
23 אִם־ (If) יֵ֤שׁ (there is) עָלָ֨יו׀ (for him) מַלְאָ֗ךְ (a messenger),
מֵלִ֗יץ (a mediator), אֶחָ֥ד (one) מִנִּי־ (among) אָ֑לֶף (a thousand),
לְהַגִּ֖יד (to declare) לְאָדָ֣ם (to man) יָשְׁרֽוֹ׃ (his uprightness).
24 וַיְחֻנֶּ֗נּוּ (And show him favor) וַיֹּ֗אמֶר (and says),
פְּ֭דָעֵהוּ (Spare him) מֵרֶ֥דֶת (from going down) שָׁ֗חַת (into the Pit);
מָצָ֥אתִי (I have found) כֹֽפֶר׃ (a ransom).
25 רֻֽטֲפַ֣שׁ (Is refreshed) בְּשָׂר֣וֹ (his flesh) מִנֹּ֑עַר (like a child’s);
יָ֝שׁ֗וּב (and he returns) לִימֵ֥י (to the days) עֲלוּמָֽיו׃ (of his youth).
26 יֶעְתַּ֤ר (He prays) אֶל־ (to) אֱל֨וֹהַּ׀ (God), וַיִּרְצֵ֗הוּ (and He shows him favor),
וַיַּ֣רְא (and he sees) פָּ֭נָיו (His face) בִּתְרוּעָ֑ה (with a shout of joy),
וַיָּ֥שֶׁב (and He restores) לֶ֝אֱנ֗וֹשׁ (to the man)
צִדְקָתֽוֹ׃ (His righteousness).
27 יָשֹׁ֤ר׀ (Then he shall sing) עַל־ (before) אֲנָשִׁ֗ים (men)
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר (and says),
חָ֭טָאתִי (I have sinned), וְיָשָׁ֥ר (and uprightness) הֶעֱוֵ֗יתִי (I have twisted),
וְלֹא־ (and not) שָׁ֥וָה (did He requite it) לִֽי׃ (of me).
28 פָּדָ֣ה (He has ransomed) נַפְשִׁי (my soul) מֵעֲבֹ֣ר (from going down) בַּשָּׁ֑חַת (to the Pit),
וְחַיָּתִי (and my life) בָּא֥וֹר (on the light) תִּרְאֶֽה׃ (shall look).
29 הֶן־ (Behold), כָּל־ (all) אֵ֭לֶּה (these things) יִפְעַל־ (does) אֵ֑ל (God)
פַּעֲמַ֖יִם (two) שָׁל֣וֹשׁ (or three times) עִם־ (with) גָּֽבֶר׃ (a man),
30 לְהָשִׁ֣יב (to bring back) נַ֭פְשׁוֹ (his soul) מִנִּי־ (from) שָׁ֑חַת (the Pit),
לֵ֝א֗וֹר (to be enlightened) בְּא֣וֹר (with the light) הַֽחַיִּים׃ (of the living).
31 הַקְשֵׁ֖ב (Pay attention), אִיּ֥וֹב (O Job), שְֽׁמַֽע־ (listen) לִ֑י (to me);
הַ֝חֲרֵ֗שׁ (be silent), וְאָנֹכִ֥י (and I) אֲדַבֵּֽר׃ (will speak).
32 אִם־ (If) יֵשׁ־ (there are) מִלִּ֥ין (words), הֲשִׁיבֵ֑נִי (answer me);
דַּ֝בֵּ֗ר (speak), כִּֽי־ (for) חָפַ֥צְתִּי (I delight) צַדְּקֶֽךָּ׃ (to prove you right).
33 אִם־ (If) אַ֭יִן (not), אַתָּ֥ה (then you) שְֽׁמַֽע־ (must listen) לִ֑י (to me);
הַ֝חֲרֵ֗שׁ (keep silent), וַאֲאַלֶּפְךָ֥ (and I will teach you) חָכְמָֽה׃ס (wisdom).
