Job: My Redeemer Lives
1 וַיַּ֥עַן (And answered) אִיּ֗וֹב (Job) וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ (and said):
2 עַד־ (Until) אָ֭נָה (when) תּוֹגְי֣וּן (will you⁺ afflict) נַפְשִׁ֑י (my soul),
וּֽתְדַכְּאוּנַ֥נִי (and crush me) בְמִלִּֽים׃ (with words)?
3 זֶ֤ה (These) עֶ֣שֶׂר (ten) פְּ֭עָמִים (times) תַּכְלִימ֑וּנִי (you⁺ have reproached me);
לֹֽא־ (not) תֵ֝בֹ֗שׁוּ (are you⁺ ashamed) תַּהְכְּרוּ־ (that you⁺ have done wrong) לִֽי׃ (to me).
4 וְאַף־ (And if) אָמְנָ֥ם (truly) שָׁגִ֑יתִי (I have gone astray),
אִ֝תִּ֗י (with me) תָּלִ֥ין (lodges) מְשׁוּגָתִֽי׃ (my straying).
5 אִם־ (If) אָ֭מְנָם (truly) עָלַ֣י (over me) תַּגְדִּ֑ילוּ (you⁺ would magnify yourselves)
וְתוֹכִ֥יחוּ (and plead) עָ֝לַ֗י (against me) חֶרְפָּתִּֽי׃ (my reproach),
6 דְּֽעוּ־ (know) אֵ֭פוֹ (then) כִּי־ (that it is) אֱל֣וֹהַּ (God) עִוְּתָ֑נִי (has wronged me)
וּ֝מְצוּד֗וֹ (and His net) עָלַ֥י (over me) הִקִּֽיף׃ (He has thrown round).
7 הֵ֤ן (Behold) אֶצְעַ֣ק (I cry out) חָ֭מָס (Violence)! וְלֹ֣א (And not) אֵעָנֶ֑ה (I am answered).
אֲ֝שַׁוַּ֗ע (I cry for help) וְאֵ֣ין (not) מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ (is justice).
8 אָרְחִ֣י (My way) גָ֭דַר (He has walled off), וְלֹ֣א (and not) אֶעֱב֑וֹר (can I pass over),
וְעַ֥ל (and upon) נְ֝תִיבוֹתַ֗י (my paths) חֹ֣שֶׁךְ (darkness) יָשִֽׂים׃ (He has set).
9 כְּ֭בוֹדִי (My honor), מֵעָלַ֣י (from me) הִפְשִׁ֑יט (He has stripped),
וַ֝יָּ֗סַר (and He has turned aside) עֲטֶ֣רֶת (the crown from) רֹאשִֽׁי׃ (my head).
10 יִתְּצֵ֣נִי (He tears me down) סָ֭בִיב (round about) וָאֵלַ֑ךְ (and I depart),
וַיַּסַּ֥ע (and He pulls out) כָּ֝עֵ֗ץ (like a tree) תִּקְוָתִֽי׃ (my hope).
11 וַיַּ֣חַר (And He has kindled) עָלַ֣י (against me) אַפּ֑וֹ (His anger),
וַיַּחְשְׁבֵ֖נִי (and He reckons me) ל֣וֹ (for Himself) כְצָרָֽיו׃ (among His adversaries).
12 יַ֤חַד׀ (As one) יָ֘בֹ֤אוּ (come) גְדוּדָ֗יו (His troops)
וַיָּסֹ֣לּוּ (and they build up) עָלַ֣י (against me) דַּרְכָּ֑ם (their ramp),
וַיַּחֲנ֖וּ (and they put down camp) סָבִ֣יב (all around) לְאָהֳלִֽי׃ (my tent).
13 אַ֭חַי (My brothers) מֵעָלַ֣י (from me) הִרְחִ֑יק (He has put far off)
וְ֝יֹדְעַ֗י (and my acquaintances) אַךְ־ (surely) זָ֥רוּ (are estranged) מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ (from me).
14 חָדְל֥וּ (Have ceased) קְרוֹבָ֑י (those near to me),
וּֽמְיֻדָּעַ֥י (and those known to me) שְׁכֵחֽוּנִי׃ (have forgotten me).
15 גָּ֘רֵ֤י (Those who sojourn) בֵיתִ֣י (in my house) וְ֭אַמְהֹתַי (and my maidservants) לְזָ֣ר (as a stranger) תַּחְשְׁבֻ֑נִי (they reckon me);
נָ֝כְרִ֗י (a foreigner) הָיִ֥יתִי (I have become) בְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃ (in their eyes).
16 לְעַבְדִּ֣י (My servant) קָ֭רָאתִי (I call) וְלֹ֣א (and not) יַעֲנֶ֑ה (does he answer);
בְּמוֹ־ (with) פִ֝֗י (my mouth) אֶתְחַנֶּן־ (I seek favor) לֽוֹ׃ (from him).
17 ר֭וּחִֽי (My breath) זָ֣רָה (is strange) לְאִשְׁתִּ֑י (to my wife),
וְ֝חַנֹּתִ֗י (and I am loathsome) לִבְנֵ֥י (to the sons) בִטְנִֽי׃ (of my womb).
18 גַּם־ (Even) עֲ֭וִילִים (little boys) מָ֣אֲסוּ (despise) בִ֑י (me);
אָ֝ק֗וּמָה (I arise) וַיְדַבְּרוּ־ (and they speak) בִֽי׃ (against me).
19 תִּֽ֭עֲבוּנִי (They abhor me) כָּל־ (all) מְתֵ֣י (the men) סוֹדִ֑י (of my counsel),
וְזֶֽה־ (and those) אָ֝הַ֗בְתִּי (I love) נֶהְפְּכוּ־ (have turned) בִֽי׃ (against me).
20 בְּעוֹרִ֣י (To my skin) וּ֭בִבְשָׂרִי (and to my flesh) דָּבְקָ֣ה (clings) עַצְמִ֑י (my bone),
וָ֝אֶתְמַלְּטָ֗ה (and I have escaped) בְּע֣וֹר (by the skin) שִׁנָּֽי׃ (of my teeth).
21 חָנֻּ֬נִי (Pity me), חָנֻּ֣נִי (pity me), אַתֶּ֣ם (you⁺) רֵעָ֑י (my friends),
כִּ֥י (for) יַד־ (the hand) אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ (of God) נָ֣גְעָה (has touched) בִּֽי׃ (evil upon me).
22 לָ֭מָּה (Why) תִּרְדְּפֻ֣נִי (do you⁺ pursue me) כְמוֹ־ (as) אֵ֑ל (God does),
וּ֝מִבְּשָׂרִ֗י (and with my flesh) לֹ֣א (not) תִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃ (you⁺ are satisfied)?
23 מִֽי־ (Who) יִתֵּ֣ן (will grant) אֵ֭פוֹ (now) וְיִכָּתְב֣וּן (that should be written) מִלָּ֑י (my words)!
מִֽי־ (Who) יִתֵּ֖ן (will grant that) בַּסֵּ֣פֶר (in a book) וְיֻחָֽקוּ׃ (they be inscribed),
24 בְּעֵט־ (with a pen) בַּרְזֶ֥ל (of iron) וְעֹפָ֑רֶת (and with lead)
לָ֝עַ֗ד (forever) בַּצּ֥וּר (in the rock) יֵחָצְבֽוּן׃ (they would be engraved)!
25 וַאֲנִ֣י (And I) יָ֭דַעְתִּי (know that) גֹּ֣אֲלִי (my Redeemer) חָ֑י (lives),
וְ֝אַחֲר֗וֹן (and in the end) עַל־ (upon) עָפָ֥ר (the dust) יָקֽוּם׃ (He will stand).
26 וְאַחַ֣ר (And after) ע֭וֹרִֽי (my skin) נִקְּפוּ־ (they strike off) זֹ֑את (thus),
וּ֝מִבְּשָׂרִ֗י (yet in my flesh) אֶֽחֱזֶ֥ה (I will see) אֱלֽוֹהַּ׃ (God),
27 אֲשֶׁ֤ר (He whom) אֲנִ֨י׀ (I) אֶֽחֱזֶה־ (will see) לִּ֗י (for myself)
וְעֵינַ֣י (and my eyes) רָא֣וּ (will see), וְלֹא־ (and not) זָ֑ר (a stranger).
כָּל֖וּ (Yearn) כִלְיֹתַ֣י (My kidneys) בְּחֵקִֽי׃ (in my bosom)!
28 כִּ֣י (If) תֹ֭אמְרוּ (you⁺ should say), מַה־ (How) נִּרְדָּף־ (we will pursue) ל֑וֹ (after him),
וְשֹׁ֥רֶשׁ (and The root) דָּ֝בָ֗ר (of the matter) נִמְצָא־ (is found) בִֽי׃ (with me).
29 גּ֤וּרוּ (Be afraid) לָכֶ֨ם׀ (for yourselves) מִפְּנֵי־ (of the face) חֶ֗רֶב (of the sword),
כִּֽי־ (for) חֵ֭מָה (from wrath) עֲוֺנ֣וֹת (is the punishment) חָ֑רֶב (of the sword),
לְמַ֖עַן (so that) תֵּדְע֣וּן (you⁺ may know) שַׁדִּין׃ס (there is a judgment).
