Long ago God spoke to the fathers by the prophets at different times and in different ways.1Πολυμερῶς καὶ πολυτρόπως πάλαι Θεὸς λαλήσας τοῖς πατράσιν ἐν τοῖς προφήταις
In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son. God has appointed him heir of all things and made the universe through him.2ἐπ’ ἐσχάτου τῶν ἡμερῶν τούτων ἐλάλησεν ἡμῖν ἐν Υἱῷ ὃν ἔθηκεν κληρονόμον πάντων δι’ οὗ καὶ ἐποίησεν τοὺς αἰῶνας
The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.3ὃς ὢν ἀπαύγασμα τῆς δόξης καὶ χαρακτὴρ τῆς ὑποστάσεως αὐτοῦ φέρων τε τὰ πάντα τῷ ῥήματι τῆς δυνάμεως ‹δι’› αὐτοῦ καθαρισμὸν τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ποιησάμενος ἐκάθισεν ἐν δεξιᾷ τῆς Μεγαλωσύνης ἐν ὑψηλοῖς
So he became superior to the angels, just as the name he inherited is more excellent than theirs.4τοσούτῳ κρείττων γενόμενος τῶν ἀγγέλων ὅσῳ διαφορώτερον παρ’ αὐτοὺς κεκληρονόμηκεν ὄνομα
For to which of the angels did he ever say, You are my Son; today I have become your Father, or again, I will be his Father, and he will be my Son?5Τίνι γὰρ εἶπέν ποτε τῶν ἀγγέλων Υἱός μου εἶ σύ ἐγὼ σήμερον γεγέννηκά σε Καὶ πάλιν Ἐγὼ ἔσομαι αὐτῷ εἰς Πατέρα καὶ αὐτὸς ἔσται μοι εἰς Υἱόν
Again, when he brings his firstborn into the world, he says, And let all God's angels worship him.6Ὅταν δὲ πάλιν εἰσαγάγῃ τὸν πρωτότοκον εἰς τὴν οἰκουμένην λέγει Καὶ προσκυνησάτωσαν αὐτῷ πάντες ἄγγελοι Θεοῦ
And about the angels he says: He makes his angels winds, and his servants a fiery flame,7Καὶ πρὸς μὲν τοὺς ἀγγέλους λέγει ποιῶν τοὺς ἀγγέλους αὐτοῦ πνεύματα καὶ τοὺς λειτουργοὺς αὐτοῦ πυρὸς φλόγα
but to the Son: Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of justice.8Πρὸς δὲ τὸν Υἱόν θρόνος σου Θεὸς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ αἰῶνος καὶ ῥάβδος τῆς εὐθύτητος ῥάβδος τῆς βασιλείας σου*
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; this is why God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy beyond your companions.9ἠγάπησας δικαιοσύνην καὶ ἐμίσησας ἀνομίαν διὰ τοῦτο ἔχρισέν σε Θεός Θεός σου ἔλαιον ἀγαλλιάσεως παρὰ τοὺς μετόχους σου
And: In the beginning, Lord, you established the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands;10Καί Σὺ κατ’ ἀρχάς Κύριε τὴν γῆν ἐθεμελίωσας καὶ ἔργα τῶν χειρῶν σού εἰσιν οἱ οὐρανοί
they will perish, but you remain. They will all wear out like clothing;11αὐτοὶ ἀπολοῦνται σὺ δὲ διαμένεις καὶ πάντες ὡς ἱμάτιον παλαιωθήσονται
you will roll them up like a cloak, and they will be changed like clothing. But you are the same, and your years will never end.12καὶ ὡσεὶ περιβόλαιον ἑλίξεις αὐτούς ὡς ἱμάτιον καὶ ἀλλαγήσονται σὺ δὲ αὐτὸς εἶ καὶ τὰ ἔτη σου οὐκ ἐκλείψουσιν
Now to which of the angels has he ever said: Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool?13Πρὸς τίνα δὲ τῶν ἀγγέλων εἴρηκέν ποτε Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου
Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve those who are going to inherit salvation?14Οὐχὶ πάντες εἰσὶν λειτουργικὰ πνεύματα εἰς διακονίαν ἀποστελλόμενα διὰ τοὺς μέλλοντας κληρονομεῖν σωτηρίαν
